Thursday Morning Something Or Other
— Open Blogger

Sorry all, my computer decided to sh*t the bed this morning. All I've got is a video of a Husky puppy who really doesn't want to go to his kennel.

CAC should be along shortly to give his election analysis.

The trainer wanted to know if there were any unusual issues she needed to know about (she's a specialist at grumpy, aggressive dogs).

61 You must be so proud that the JEF spoke there yesterday in front of an adoring audience.

I was in school when Bill Clinton came to speak when he was running for his first term.  My dorm was directly next to the music hall where the SS advance team was setting up.  Lots of black SUV's in the alley right below my window.  Someone down the hall had a CD full of Hollywood sound effects like footsteps on gravel, wind blowing, a crowded auditorium, and gun fire.

Gun fire.

We threatened to beat his ass if he started playing those tracks.

My next brush with our ruling class was Al Gore himself.  He stopped by for a rally over at the state fairgrounds.  This was when he had sprained or broken his ankle and was hobbling around on a crutch.  I was in ROTC at the time and had the privilege of performing the colour guard with my Pershing Rifles drill team.  We had our 1903's with us and had to give them up to the Sheriff's deputies until it was time to perform.  I got a BBQ sandwich from the food table before I left.

I don't care that TFG spoke there yesterday.  I have no ties to the school anymore.  They call me occasionally asking for money, but I tell them I already gave it to them during the years of 1991 to 1995.

95 WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is bringing university presidents from across the country together to exact commitments from each to expand access to higher education.

The price of admission: a promise to voluntarily take action to help more low-income students attend college.

"When the president has a call to action on this area, it is because it is a critical measure for us being true to our values of economic mobility," said Gene Sperling, the director of the White House's National Economic Council.

The vet could never determine if Sasha had been spayed. She could bound six feet, straight up- like a gazelle. My fence is topped with a foot of Bob Whar because I had a Boxer who could clear a six-foot fence.

But every time I left the house I came back on pins and needles because half the time she had run away. The Sunday before Xmas she tunneled & ran- and when I found her would not get in the car and come home. That decided it for me. She had to find another home.

It's getting clearer there's a problem with police power. Granted, such an outcome was predictable based on everything we know about psychology and history. Having said that, I'm not sure disarming the cops is necessarily the best idea either. Given some problems we have with the police board around here lately, I almost think there needs to be some oversight board that's handled more like jury duty. A short term rotating appointment drawn from the total pool of voters and screened for obvious problems.

Skills in training dogs and raising children aren't as different as most people like to pretend; in both cases giving a lot of attention to them is rewarded by good behavior.

173 Well, I decided early on just to ignore the anachronisms, so that doesn't really bother me. I see your point, but they made such an effort to get the whole Midnight Ride thing right in the first one ("The Regulars are coming" as opposed to "The British"-something that Limbaugh screwed up in Rush Revere) that I had higher hopes. But, screw realism, let's get a jab in on guns!

My current dog is a GSP/German Shepard mix.  She's certifiably insane, and absolutely destroyed my house, to the point of having replace two entire windows...not the glass, but the entire windows...before I wised up and installed a doggy door.  Fortunately, I live in a semi-rural area with a big yard and several acres of woods behind the house for her to run around in with the neighbor's German Shepard and Chocolate Lab.

177 Olympus Has Fallen was a terrible movie, one of the few where a suspension of disbelief is impossible. Meh. Turn your brain to "off" and watch Gerard Butler kill people. If you watched for "the plot" you were watching for the wrong reason. Having said that, I'm not sure disarming the cops is necessarily the best idea either. Yeah, I was exaggerating a bit. That said, a model where "most" cops aren't armed (or are only armed w/ non-lethal weapons) and only certain cops carry might be a good compromise. Of course, that just brings up the whole problem of cops always calling in SWAT for everything. "What's the situation sergeant?" "Suspect is a female, 72 years old, refuses to take her meds." "Call in SWAT."

Yep, put them in a school, and they'll get neutered.
Stops the tunneling.

Dude. They've inserted Ichabod Crane into every major event of the Revolution. I'm moderately surprised they haven't worked in, "Ah, yes, I was supposed to sign [the Declaration of Independence], but that bastard John Hancock used up too much space..." They already had it so that *he* is the one who organized and directed the Boston Tea Party...

182 Of course, that just brings up the whole problem of cops always calling in SWAT for everything. Every SWAT deployment should be subject to full public review. If anything about it turns out to have been the slightest bit screwy, the folks in charge lose their jobs. Also, no immunity for "wrong house" raids.

184 Saw Lone Survivor yesterday.  It was an intense movie.  Still wincing about falling off a mountain.

The trailers that preceded it.  Meh.

Some Liam Neeson movie where he is an US Air Marshall and someone on the flight is framing him for in flight murders and hijacking.  Pass.

Robocop.  He has a stun gun?  And got robots that look like recycled new BSG Cylons.  Pass.  Plus it has Samuel L. Jackson basically screaming "What's in your city defending you?"

Russel Crowe as Noah?  Think that will get a pass also.  Same for Son of God.

Finally the new Captain America: Winter Soldier.  I might have gone to see it.  But it has Robert Redford in it.  Sorry Sundance, your horse bolted long ago.

186 I will concede that Butler doing his thing was the only enjoyable part of the movie, except for the tired, old cliche of the horde-vanquishing hero suddenly turned into a puddle of goo when faced with the archvillain.

People like Jackson and the other dude also do supporting roles but I have to say why? It seems as if every big money movie has to have the older dude supporting role that is totally unnecessary and they pay millions of bucks for.
