— Open Blogger Here's an open thread to get you through until the next serious post pops up. Perhaps it will lighten the mood a little.
Times they are a changin'.
Things aren't as simple as they used to be, not that they were ever simple but, they were never this complicated before.
And the kids, we bemoan how rotten they are but, hell, who raised them? I mean, really?! Not every rotten kid came from rotten parents and not every rotten parent produces bad kids but, more often than not, well... the gravitational force exerted on a Red Delicious results in said Red Delicious lying proximate to Malus Domestica.
And sex... my heavens at the hyper-sexual imagery they are basted in. It's everywhere. And, simultaneous to the increase in their exposure to sex is a loss of the traditional family. Kids are left alone, fending for themselves, with television and video games serving as surrogate parents.
It takes its toll.
CoolCzech really deserves the credit for this post because it was his pictorial of the change in culture between the 80's and the 20teens which made me stop and think about it.
To make it up to you, here's a photo of an 80's-era piglet, complete with legwarmers.

Cute, isn't it? It's as if it has never been exposed to the harsh ways of the world.
Keep your kids safe and teach them well because, when you don't, the consequences can be dire...

Don't let this happen to your own little piglets.
BTW, I watched Don Jon tonight. I enjoyed it. And, you Morons, Scarlett Johnasson is great in it.
Now. I'll leave you to your deep thoughts.

Now in my neighborhood there is only one that I am aware of with school age children who does not work.
And in the urban environment the "moms" are single and most of them stay strung out on some kind of drug financed by twenty-nine different welfare programs while their 27 kids roam the streets doing ever lawbreaking thing they can do.
And the sad thing about that last thing is that it wasn't that way until LBJ's great society started.

The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest
in that order. Very good.

Jeepers! Watch you some Twilight Zone shows and see people dressed in nice clothes.
No saggy pants, no yoga pants that are 30 lbs past the intended limit, people are well groomed, men wearing suits and ties as daily wear, hair colors and styles from this world, courtesies and respect exchanged.

From what I saw of the list it looked like ALL of them were already members of the FSA in good standing already. The SE KY one may not be depending on exactly where he is talking about.
So what this amounts to is Stimulus III in which they dump a shit-ton of money on Democrat cronies to give out "as they see fit" to buy votes from the FSA.
And there has been zero legislation passed to approve this are provide financing.

The one with Emily Browning? Really strange. A college student who doesn't need the money takes a job as a sort of prostitute with no actual sex. She takes a sedative and sleeps naked with wealthy old men. Actually sleeps and nothing else. The men derive a thrill from their lost youth without any pressure to perform or awareness of the young woman restraining her repulsion at their aged physiques.

Dr. Morbius - "I'm impressed Commander that you grasp the situation so well."

Dr. Morbius - "Surely you jest Commander. Where does it say that?"
JJ Adams - "Page 34. No, 35... wait, does your copy have green pages? That's the old one..."
Dr. Morbius - "Commander. Do the green pages indicate that is an old script or a new script? Clarity and conciseness are hallmarks of an educated man. But I am sure you have a strong voice."

There is a line in that movie that is hilarious. The daughter summons Robbie, but it takes a while for Robbie to show up. When she asks Robbie what took him so long, it replies...
"Sorry, I was giving myself a lube job".
Hard to believe that line stayed in the film.

Funny thing is, once the oldest TiFW daughter went off to college, she became quite conservative in her views towards sex.
Started bemoaning what "kids these days" were exposed to.....
.....after whining at us when she was that same age when we bemoaned the same thing.
It was interesting to watch the change in values in ALL of our daughters once they became young adults. Their friends have gone through the same changes, too.

OTOH, a lot of the parents my age who had kids starting in the late 80s gave them an absurd amount of supervision, becoming known as helicopter parents always hovering nearby. When I was growing up I didn't know anyone who had so many scheduled activities as these kids. We might have had some sport or music lessons that came up after school but generally handle getting together with other kids for ourselves.
When I was a kid I could disappear on a summer morning and not return until late afternoon. I'd be completely out of touch unless I had some change for a phone call. My folks simply didn't think this was cause for worry. Nowadays, we have nanny cams and cell phones that allow a parent to keep a GPS track on the kid.
A lot of the young adults I meet now were never untracked by their parents or supervised by surrogates for more than an hour or so until they reached high school. And people wonder why so many teens today are uninterested in obtaining a driver's license when it had been so intensely important to previous generations.

Caliban, Curse of the Demon is somewhat under appreciated. There were some good movies in that lot. Them! is still the best giant atomic monster movie, followed by Japan's giant mutant dinosaur Godzilla.
--------------------------------------------
Don't forget "Tarantula". Also one of my favorite movies of that era was "War of the Worlds".
One of the funniest scenes and lines from "War of the Worlds" is at the dance and all the electricity went out. When it finally came on everyone notices that their watches had stopped. Then the main character, in his impromptu investigation, asks, "Does anyone have a pocket compass"?, every man in the room starts searching their pockets. I laugh just thinking about it.

I heard about something similar from a client who had a lot of 'imported' labor in part of his company. He said these guys were straight from the sticks and had never lived any place that didn't have dirt floors, roofs so permeable they let smoke right through, and, of course, no electricity or indoor plumbing. He said he had one place where they dug up the back yard to create a latrine because the indoor flush toilet was completely alien to them.
What I found baffling is what task he set these guys to doing that they could be easily taught. Since I had some suspicions about the extent of his business I chose not to pursue the question.
