My FB page is filled with this this morning. "OMG I heart Matt Damon so much!!! #hottie" "(My daughter and her BFF love Leo DiCaprio but I keep reminding them he's my age!!! #embarrassing" "My dream is that one day I will be at the Golden Globes watching (my other daughter) present an award." "OMG is Drew #pregnant?!?!" "Emma, I love you but what a horrible dress!" And on and on... Just the thing to make me want to slit my wrists at 6am on a Monday.

47 Funny thing about watching football all weekend, you can end up with the distinct impression they  only air the games to promo their stinking tv shows.  I guess they figure they can reach an audience who doesn't otherwise know about their shows.

And what are they offering?  Mostly stuff with hunky male  leads.  I guess that's what they think their football-watching audience wants.

Not me, I expect actual, you know, content.

Meanwhile, California offers another gift to the Nation:

Marianne Williamson, friend of Oprah, associate of Hollywood elites, best-selling author and charismatic spiritual leader, has spent three decades offering a path to inner peace for those who seek it. Now she's entering an arena in which inner — and outer — peace seems in particularly short supply: She's challenging Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Beverly Hills) for the congressional seat he first won when Gerald Ford was president and the country was preparing to celebrate its bicentennial.

"This is a journey we're all taking together over the next few months," Williamson told the crowd of 200 or so who had showed up to volunteer for her campaign.

She rattled off a list of her concerns: child poverty, mass incarceration of blacks and Latinos, government spying, a growing gap between haves and have-nots, even the "corruption of our food supply" via genetic modification and high-fructose corn syrup.

Gravity was a good movie.  Worth it for the effects alone, and I would recommend seeing it in a theater if you still can. - it might still be available in the second-tier theaters.

my contribution to Saturday Night Live: at the funeral, someone introduces Biden to another elderly man wearing a skullcap. "Mr Vice Preseident, this is the former Prime Minister's cousin, Mr Goldfisch". "You know, Mr Vice President, my cousin was a tank commander." And Biden replies, "Well, I can see the connection between tanks and goldfish."

The only thing that makes sense, is that the Democrat party has gone so far down  the socialist/leftist road, the R party thinks it can carve out a nice, comfy niche  just to the left of center.

It's a recipe that gets them minority status most of the time, but occasionally, when  the  hard left pushes too far, they can ease things back a bit.

That's how it works  in much of Europe, so why not.  Allows  them to distance themselves from the heartless fiscal conservatives, and more importantly, they can finally  be free of those weirdo Christians who love babies and hate sodomy.

I'm not writing to defend myself nor would I re-open the topic ever again on here. Every seat was filled, even that 'safety seat' you leave between you and the group next to you.

People (nearly all of them) stayed in the theatre through the end of the credits.  I assume that was due to composing themselves and remembering to breathe.

116 Happy Monday! Hymn for the Day, "When Jesus Came to Jordan" Yesterday in the church we celebrated Jesus baptism in the Jordan river. This is a beautiiful modern hymn with words embedded: http://tinyurl.com/kpxa8ab I love the third verse, "Come, Holy Spirit, aid us to keep the vows we make; this very day invade us and every bondage break. Come gives our lives direction, the gift we covet most, to share the resurrection that leads to Pentecost." Jesus did not yet have any disciple. He had no healings or miracles. He had not yet given his life upon the cross. The baptism initiated his public ministry. He was simply God's beloved son. This is the cornerstone of grace, friends, and a hallmark of the love of God for us too. God loves us simply because God loves us. We are His dearly beloved son or daughter. Today maybe we can consider who we are and whose we are, turn to the Lord and open our hearts and minds to his caring presence, his guidance, affirming love, forgiveness and support. We also have the blessing to be able to offer that affirmation and love to others-even before they've done either good or bad or whether they deserve your favor and encouragement. God bless you and blessed be God everyday!

122 The best possible outcome of Christie's BridgeGate is that he no longer be a viable 2016 presidential candidate for the RINO Party. Unfortunately, there are many more RINOs from which to choose to lose in that election. The topic you are not mentioning is a rather acidic one, that has data sets and as Vic showed a form of paper trail.  We receive enough fire from our "superiors" who actually had members extant that were in the organization I mentioned in the era I would imagine would have had to have been in play during the time we were speaking of.  Nobody wants you to leave that I know of, and if my response hurt you personally or was too pointed for a response or request I acknowledge I had personally impugned you I again apologize.

150 GILLETT, Ark. (AP) — It's voters like Jammy Turner who give Republicans hope of ending an Arkansas political dynasty and taking control of the U.S. Senate this fall.

Turner, among the hundreds who attended the annual "Coon Supper" on Saturday in this town about 100 miles southeast of Little Rock, said he respects Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor, who want a third term. But Turner supports Republican Tom Cotton, a freshman congressman who says Pryor's ties to President Barack Obama make him the wrong senator for Arkansas.

My production scheduler calls and says he can't get a ticket to print, which confuses me because I know for damn sure I put in a formula last week. So I go look, there's my formula and it's been canceled by the VP in Cali. No notification, no reason why. They do this ALL THE TIME. Then everyone is stuck. Instead of doing what makes sense and canceling the formula then sending out a quick email that says, hey guys, I did this because x, y, z, instead we're all here clueless and have to wait three hours for the guy to get to his office in CA before we can do anything. All the time, no communication. They transfered a bunch of products from the CA plant here to TX but no one thought it would be smart to inform purchasing that they need new raw materials shipped to TX so we go to make the stuff and boom can't. It is so frustrating. /work rant

171 CID was synonymous to "Narc" in my experience. I'm sure they do plenty of other things, but what we knew them for was sending a new kid into the unit/barracks, who was undercover CID, and who would then buy weed from/smoke hash with whoever in the Unit was into that stuff and then one day a shit load of MP's would come by and drag a handful of guys out to begin their prosecution under UCMJ. They were not beloved.

Yeah.

As a former Company Commander (twice), and Battalion XO, I'm totally OK with that.

If I would have met her later in life, we wouldn't be friends. I don't interact with her often.

179 As a former enlisted man whose military experience was closer to F-Troop/Stripes than to Officer and a Gentleman, I am sworn to the dark side. Screwing with MP's is my sacred duty. The worst was that they would "turn" one or two guys, and those guys would stay with the unit after everyone else had been Chaptered out. Also not beloved.

Another example of actions and words:

We need affordable health care so the first three things we need to do are 1) make all insurance more expensive with higher deductibles and fewer choices, 2)regulate the heck out of the insurance industry so that it becomes unprofitable in any normal market sense, and 3) payoff the insurance industry with taxpayer dollars (dollars that left in the hands of citizens could have paid for the old insurance plans).

202 RE Sven 10077 at January 13, 2014 08:50 AM (TE35l) Sven, you still there? (What am I saying?) I appreciate your reply. Honestly, when at first it was just you, I wasn't concerned. When others seemed to confirm and amplify what I considered misrepresentation, that's when I became concerned, hence my "group mentality" comment. Memes can spread like wildfire. I'm well aware of the acidity of the topic. An ex-bro-in-law used to joke, in his thick Ecuadorian accent, "the problem with stereotypes is, some blacks DO have rhythm, some Irish ARE drunks..." and he would roll on with one after another until I think he hit everybody. Most white boys CAN'T dance or jump. (It's okay if I say it.) Anyway, alas, some rich white Republicans were bigots, and some Democrats were on the side of right. And that's well documented, too. Not saying it was the whole picture on the national scale. The original question was, what was a "Conservative Democrat," and since I knew some, back when the species still existed, I talked about 'em. Doesn't mean I'm unaware of the general patterns of misrepresentation of history re Dems v Repubs regarding race in the South. I never said anything about quitting AoS (even if some might wish it, I suppose). I just meant I won't venture trying to relate my experience on that topic again. Even though, um, it looks like I just did. But you know I was serious about reputation being all one has. There was a "conservative" dust bowl era Democrat base which characterized Oklahoma until the days of Goldwater, Gov Bellmon, and in no small part my own dad's political work. Oklahoma has become the Republicanist of the true-blue states because the Oklahoma Republicans quit being RINOs (as we'd say today) interested more in the profits of politicking, and became more conservative and interested in winning elections on principle. This transformation of the state, mostly in my lifetime, is one thing that gives me hope for the nation. Thanks again, Sven. Now go outside and play. I'm going to.
