Happy Wednesday.

The bone-chilling cold and snow won't stop this year's March for Life.

The UN's Syrian peace negotiations did not start well. "Expectations are low for either a swift end to the military deadlock or an end to the Assad familyÂ’s decades of rule."

Subcompact cars perform poorly in crash tests. No shit. So do cardboard boxes.

5 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Wednesday, January 22, 2014.  On this day in 1973 The Supreme Gods in black robes issued their infamous decree in Roe V Wade.  Their shitty rulings was based on Stare Decisis creep from the previous shitty ruling in Griswald vs CT with its penumbras and emanations for privacy.  It is the most stupid ruling I had ever heard.

24 The Iraq collapse after the US pulled out was predicted.  I actually do blame the loss of US life in that shit hole on Bush.  He ran on a no nation building policy and then as soon as Saddam was pulled out of his hole he started nation building.  And that is where almost all the US losses in Iraq occurred. After destroying the Iraq army he should have consolidated forces and went into Iran while Israel went into Syria.   We would not have the mess we have now if he had done that.

Morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes, and thanks for the morning briefing, Vic.

IÂ’m not feeling so much like the walking dead this morning, so, a picture: here is a makeup test of the actress Gale Sondergaard for the role of the Wicked Witch in The Wizard of Oz.  I imagine this must be the look on Her Imperial MalevolenceÂ’s Face when she sentences Dems to lifetime slavery on the Alextopia galleys:

http://tinyurl.com/ohgs4vk

MGM decided that it would rather go with ugly for the Witch rather than slinky and sexy and Sondergaard, fearing the makeup required would damage her career, pulled out of the role of a lifetime, leaving it open for the winsome Margaret Hamilton.*

Sondergaard torpedoed her own career in the “Red Scare” of the 1950s, when her husband, Herbert Biberman, was accused of being a Communist.  She stood by him and was, for all intents and purposes, blackballed in Hollywood.  Later on she and Biberman moved to New York, where she was able to find stage work.  Her last movie was 1983s Echoes, but she had worked in television long before that, making guest appearances in such varied shows as Get Smart!, Night Gallery and RyanÂ’s Hope.

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

*who, at the time of filming, was 37.  Sondergaard was 41.

BTW, I asked on yesterdayÂ’s thread, but it was at the end, so I carry it over for the gun Morons – if you were living in the Hollywood hills in 1917 and needed a gun to shoot or scare off four- and two-legged rascals, what would it be?  And any ‘rons or ‘ronettes who are fluent in German, would you let me know?  IÂ’ll need some idiomatic stuff to put in the mouth of Erich von Stroheim, who has a large part in my new book.

I love these alternate casting choice discussions

The most famous, with Oz, were Ray Bolger as Tin Man and Buddy Ebsen as Scarecrow, which only got turned around because Bolger begged the head office to let him be Scarecrow.  So Ebsen got the Tin Man, was deadly allergic to the aluminium dust used on the costume, and had to pull out in favor of Jack Haley.

The studio wanted Ed Wynn to play the Wizard and even considered W.C. Fields for the part before settling on Frank Morgan, who was, like Hamilton, an MGM contract player.

Gay wedding cake for Christian Bakers

Agree to take job, a week or two before the wedding, say that you won't be able to finish the cake in time for the wedding due to backlog of orders.

A week or two out from the wedding, the happy couple is unlikely to reschedule the wedding, but have time enough to find someone else to make the cake. They won't be happy, but you didn't refuse to serve them.

117 Interesting post on Internet gambling. By the way, in California and Florida, poker is not considered gambling; it is considered a game of skill. That is true; while in the short run luck can determine individual hands - over many hands a more skillful player will defeat a less skillful player.

By the way, I don't claim to be a great player. My brother is much better than I am. He won the Houston city championship, and was at the final table in defense of that championship the next year when his all in straight flush lost to a Royal Flush. Now that is a bad beat story.

They built a distribution warehouse in Columbia last year.  The State AG told them they would have to start collecting sales tax for SC now since they had a "presence" here now.  They had an agreement with the previous gov for a 5 year moratorium on that.  They threatened to pull the WH construction and sell the property. Most significantly Walker's Department of Revenue will adjust the income tax withholding formula, to create a reduction of $322.6 million

Huge swaths of the city’s wealthiest neighborhood had been not been plowed by early Tuesday evening, leaving 1-percenters out in the cold, according to the city’s own map of snow-plower activity. “He is trying to get us back. He is very divisive and political,” said writer and Life-long Upper East Sider and mom Molly Jong Fast of Mayor de Blasio. “By not plowing the Upper East Side, he is saying, ‘I’m not one of them.’ But we have everyone in this area on the Upper East Side. We have rich people, middle class people, and housing projects. We have it all.” There appeared to be no snow plowing between East 59th and 79th Streets and between Second and Fifth Avenues. 150 So, some idiot "researcher" at the University of Texas (henceforth: t.u.) has apparently decided that you're an idiot and a liar for speaking politely. If you start statements with phrases like "With all due respect," "Honestly," or "Don't take this the wrong way," you MUST always be being passive aggressive, and our culture would gain much benefit if we dropped all such preparatory phrases. That, or we should start carrying axes, so that idiot researchers at t.u. would learn why it is said "The barbarian is far more courteous than the city man..."

153 So would it be a fashion faux pas to wear meggings under your dress? http://tinyurl.com/mfuv3mh Although many of these extreme avant garde trends seemed to be just that ..."avant garde." One of the hot looks by Walter van Beirendonck is actually hitting the streets. Walter van Beirendonck showcased leggings in a variety of prints and styles. Men in tight pants and leggings is not something that we are shocked by - from 80's hair bands to Russell Brand and Justin Bieber and Lenny Kravitz : men have been wearing tight pants for a while. Not only this but Versace , Prada and Givenchy have featured them in menswear over the years. Once a joke on the fashion scene "What's next? Men in leggings?" but the trend has trickled down into the mainstream fashion for men. We are no longer surprised with men wearing leggings to the gym but is swapping meggings with your boyfriend going a little too far?

The purpose of "hate crime" legislation is not to punish the guilty, it is to cow the populace by altering their ability to think rationally.  When every utterance offers the possibility of being brought up on charges filed by a liberal prosecutor to be adjudicated before a liberal judge, even the imprudent tend to quiet down.

164 DC makes a huge impact on the illegal gun culture that threatens the city. http://tinyurl.com/kykomxl Mr. Witaschek told me this week, “Since the night my home was invaded and family terrorized by a militarized D.C. police force, I am more afraid of what government is doing than I am of any of the people I encountered when I spent the night in jail.” He added, “The Second Amendment was meant to guarantee individuals the right to protect themselves against government — as much as against private bad guys and gangs.” There have been two pre-trail hearings in the case so far. At the end of the first hearing in November, Judge Robert Morin gave the government until Jan. 3 to come up with a good defense for the initial police raid without a search warrant. Knowing things weren’t going in their favor, the two assistant attorneys general for the District on the case, Peter Saba and Oritsejemine Trouth, offered Mr. Witaschek probation if he pleaded guilty. He declined the offer. At the second hearing, the judge disallowed the first warrantless search and the fruits of it. This eliminated a box of rifle ammunition from the charges. Undeterred, the prosecutors continued with the two items from the second raid — a misfired 12-gauge shotgun shell and a box of muzzleloader sabots. If only he displayed a standard AR magazine on a national news show.

If they can be obnoxious and use lawfare to find shit that doesn't exist in law to compel their agenda as 'civil rights', then we can use the same tactics to illustrate what is plainly written in the Constitution as far as our civil rights. If one minority group can manufacture rights in court, why can't we, as another minority group, uphold and regain ours?

Revolvers were a lot more common than semi autos in those days.  Also, .32 caliber revolvers were more common than any other caliber, even for the police.  My grandfather was a police officer at the time in an eastern city and he carried a .32 revolver until some time in the 1930s when his department ordered everybody to get .38 specials.  Dashiell Hammett wrote the Continental Op stories around that time and he mentions the guns that people were carrying.  A fairly common auto pistol at the time and place would have been a Colt Model 1903.  While these were available in .380, .32 would have been the more common caliber.   In the late 19th century, the Army had adopted a double action revolver chambered for the .38 Army cartridge.  This was dimensionally the same as the .38 Special but the case was a quarter inch shorter so it held less powder.  These were accurate but as the often told stories of Philippine Juramentados being repeatedly shot with them and going on to kill the shooter illustrate, they were a bit deficient in stopping power.  If purchased before the United States entered WW I, the .45 caliber Colt Model 1911 was available for civilian purchase.  If you want something a bit more exotic, before the British blockade cut off Germany in the autumn of 1914, a Mauser Broomhandle automatic pistol was available.  This is the pistol that was the basis for the blaster carried by Han Solo in the Star Wars movies.  It looks pretty cool and it shoots the 7.63X25mm cartridge which is basically the same as the cartridge that the Russians used in the Tokarev pistol and the PPSh submachinegun.  That cartridge is in the same ballpark as the M1 carbine cartridge which many argue is not all that powerful as a rifle cartridge bu that I would say is remarkable for a pistol cartridge.  When Teddy Roosevelt was shot with a .38 Smith and Wesson cartridge while campaigning for president in 1912, the bullet was slowed down by his heavy wool topcoat, his hour long speech that was folded over into quarters, his heavy wool suit coat, a steel eyeglasses case, his heavy wool vest, his linen shirt and his wool undershirt so that it broke the skin and was stopped by a rib.  The madman who pulled the trigger says he had been directed to shoot Roosevelt by the ghost of President William McKinley who appeared to him in a dream.  If McKinley had specified that he use a Mauser Broomhandle pistol, that bullet would have gone cleanly through Roosevelt and out the other side, thus sparing America and the world the legacy of bad ideas and disastrous policies introduced by Woodrow Wilson, our first Fascist President.

Just 20-ish years later, my Grampa ordered an shotgun from the Sears Roebuck catalog; I would presume people wanting to scare off (especially 4-legged) varmints would have done similar no matter where they lived.

Our bad weather is predicted for Friday morning which is when the Cowboy Breakfast for the San Antonio Rodeo and Stock Show is. Tradition has it that the worst weather of the year always happens on the day of the Cowboy Breakfast when 20,000 or so hungry people show up to consume free breakfast tacos (this is south Texas), beans and coffee. Right now the forecast is right on track for that to happen again this year. Might get down to 20, with a possibility of sleet or snow flakes. (And I mean flakes, no accumulation) But Saturday we are up to 70 again. I love south Texas weather.

207 Okay, Vic, I read that article, and I think you're making the same mistake (perhaps from the other direction) that Ace and the Cobs make. None of that says that Scott Walker isn't conservative. It says he *is* pragmatic. He's a hard-core fiscal-con who *also* knows that just shutting down public services- including welfare- isn't going to happen, and wouldn't be a good thing if it did. You have to take it in stages. As for the stuff grammie winger mentioned- he's the Governor. If he *didn't* want those things, he'd have said something. My main concern with Walker has been his statements (when he's made them) about illegal immigration- they suggest he's either too squishy for me, or at least open to being too squishy for me.

Thank you, A-hole (you'll excuse me if I don't write "thanks to Obnoxious A-hole for gun suggestions" in my acknowledgements!)  and Allen.  I had thought about the Colt .45, and will definitely put that in the hands of one of my characters.  I'm intrigued by the idea of von Stroheim having the Mauser, because at the climax of the book he orders it given back because the person holding it is holding it incorrectly and looks likely to blow his foot off.

209 So, some idiot "researcher" at the University of Texas (henceforth: t.u.) has apparently decided that you're an idiot and a liar for speaking politely.

The most polite people I have ever been around were my fellow soldiers in Vietnam; everyone had a loaded fully auto weapon and was on edge. Even the troops from New Jersey and New York were polite. The real reason the left wants gun control is that they're all wantabe assholes, and they aren't comfortable being assholes around armed people.

Formal politeness is the lubricant that prevents friction among moving parts - you get rid of it in society at your own peril.

From Purp's sidebar link

Study: Millennial males arrest rates are shocking

Without even reading the story, let me tell you     why this story makes me quadrupley furious.

1) Because vaginalogues    don't care about what happens to people with a Y-chromosome.  If the story's not about how millennial females are being exploited somehow then it's a non-story to them.   This is why I despise vaginalogues.

2) Racialists will only see the    statistic <I>"about 30% of Black males have experienced at least one arrest by age 18... by age 23 about 49% of Black males have been arrested."</I>   They will claim this is all about racism and nothing to do with actual criminality.

3)   The statistics about while males (~22%    of  white    males   arrested by age 18; 38% by age 23)    will be ignored, because those are white guys so who cares?  It doesn't matter that those figures account for close to a quarter of all adolescent white males, and more than a third of young adult white males.   Yes the figures for black males are   awful, but there is    nothing positive in these numbers   for any of the other races, either.

4)  In the end the entire    thing will be ignored,   because the trials and tribulations that affect the men in this    country don't matter to the so-called intellectual elite.   To them all men are brutes, especially men with calloused hands who watch football and drink    cheap alcohol.    So far as the "elites" are concerned, their view of men is not much different than Ebenezer Scrooge's view of poor people:  If they're going to die they'd best do it and decrease the surplus population.

And given that it's self reported data, I suspect that that numbers are actually a bit low, if anything. (One could argue that the culture of violence renders them higher for blacks, but I'm not sure there's evidence for that. There is however, IIRC, evidence for broad swaths of the population underreporting arrest records.)

Posted by: tsrblke, PhD(c) No Really! at January 22, 2014 05:20 AM (GaqMa)

230 I'm not sure a 'true' Christian needs to do that. That would make a 'true' Christian a slave of godless men. Theologically speaking it goes either of two ways. If the Christian really has a moral problem with baking a cake for a gay wedding, then that Christian is obligated by his own faith NOT to bake the cake- no matter what the law says and no matter the consequences. In that case, he should also know that he will face the consequences. If the Christian does not, and simply did not want to "encourage" gay marriage- then, now that the "appointed authorities" have spoken, he should follow the instruction, "In everything, both word and deed, do all in the name of the Lord."

237 It must be said, peaceful Olympics are the point of public good will towards people of good will. "Good Sportsmanship" and mutual respect; may the momentarily best athlete win. May all go well in peace. Sochi genocide 1864. An irony, given today's terrorism, the Circassians were only nominally Muslim, Sufi mystics tinged with animism, and did not embrace "Jihad" 150 years ago though threatened with extinction. Wonder, a modern Sochi memorial park honoring by recognition the Circassian tribulations from Imperial Russia would provide a symbolic peace gesture towards coexistence. Blame the Czar. Blame the USSR. Too little, too late. http://tinyurl.com/n57rxht It was 150 years ago in the winter of 1864 that the remaining Circassians were driven from their burning mountain villages at the point of Russian bayonets to the Ottoman Empire in what is today Turkey and much of the Middle East. Critically, the fleeing Circassians' final port of departure from their ancient homeland was the Black Sea town of Sochi. Brian Glyn Williams, professor of Islamic History at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth: "The Dark Secret Behind the Sochi Olympics: Russia's Efforts to Hide a Tsarist-Era Genocide" the discussion on Chechen terrorism in Russia, historical context. The Chechen highlanders and neighboring Dagestanis correctly claim that the roots of the violence in southern Russia go back to the 19th century Russians who deprived them of their ancient liberty. In the early 1800s, the expansionist Russians marched into the forested mountains of northern Caucasus and brutally conquered the smaller Muslim nations living in this region .... The divided Chechen and Dagestani tribes (there are more than 30 ethnic groups in Dagestan) did not stand a chance against the massive armies of Imperial Russia until they were unified by a Dagestani holy man named Imam Shamil [who led them in a 30 year war]. As the Russians fought to crush Shamil's mountain rebels in the northeastern Caucasus Mountains, they moved against another nation in the northwestern Caucasus known as the Circassians. The odds are you have never heard of this people due to the fact that the Russians exterminated most of them, but for centuries they were famous in the Middle East and Russia. To teach all the Caucasian tribes a lesson, the Russians decided to wipe out the ancient Circassians. Professor Walter Richmond Commins writes, from The Circassian Genocide: "Circassia was a small independent nation on the northeastern shore of the Black Sea. For no reason other than ethnic hatred, over the course of hundreds of raids the Russians drove the Circassians from their homeland and deported them to the Ottoman Empire. At least 600,000 people lost their lives to massacre, starvation, and the elements while hundreds of thousands more were forced to leave their homeland. By 1864, three-fourths of the population was annihilated, and the Circassians had become one of the first stateless peoples in modern history."

One thing about owning a snowblower - when you have one, you get lots of cups of coffee.

Just finished clearing my driveway, both immediate neighbors, sidewalks, a widowed neighbor a few houses up, and a pipestem.    Funny thing, one neighborhood resident asked if I was with the county, because apparently in his world neighbors don't do nice things for each other.

I heard on TV yesterday that the Eskimos have nine words for  "snow."   I have a lot more than nine words for snow and I don't even speak Eskimo.

He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others?"

I'm intrigued by the idea of von Stroheim having the Mauser, because at the climax of the book he orders it given back because the person holding it is holding it incorrectly and looks likely to blow his foot off.

Posted by: Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing at January 22, 2014 09:07 AM (zF6Iw)"

Just let me know when it comes out.  I can read it and see my contribution to literary immortality.

There are a number of cool things about the Broomhandle Mauser.  It came with a wooden holster which could then be snapped onto the handle to serve as a shoulder stock.  That is why it had a very optimistic tangent sight that went out to 900 meters.  Lots of luck at that range.  It loaded with ten rounds from the top with a stripper clip.  The more official name for the Broomhandle, which is just a nickname, is the C96 because it was introduced in 1896.  They were often bought by officers and not just in the German army.  Winston Churchill bought one when he was a lieutenant in a British cavalry regiment and he used it during the Battle of Omdurman.  I think that Eric von Stroheim had been an officer in the Austro-Hungarian army so he might well have purchased one in Europe and them brought it with him to the US.

Speaking of blowing off one's foot with a Broomhandle Mauser, it has a safety that is not particularly obvious as to which position is safe.  It would be quite possible for someone who was not familiar with it to take the pistol off safe believing that they were putting the safety on.  It wasn't until the 1960s that it became a standard part of gun safety to "Keep your booger hook off the bang switch" until ready to fire.  People used to hold guns with their finger on the trigger as a normal thing.

293 Posted by: MWR, Proud Tea(rrorist) Party Assault Hobbit at January 22, 2014 09:40 AM (4df7R) Back in the lab days we had a breeding schema listed in a grant that took half a page. I read it 3 times, and I couldn't make sense of it. I knew it was the breeding schema I was using, but when written out on paper it lost all sense. I looked at my boss and said "just put [simpler schema]." His response "but that's not what we do." My response "it's not what we do because it involves expensive time consuming injections on the breeders. It's not that we can't do it, it's that it's not worth the effort, we've done it before. But it's easier to understand, and that's the important part for a grant. Especially since breeding isn't actually an experiment, we just have to show we can get the mice in question, which we can, because I have them down in the facility." In job two I tried to tell my PI that he wasn't really doing a good job of matching the RFA, but just gave up when he wouldn't listen to me. Later I tried to tell him his experimental designs were just...wrong. He dismissed me outright in a meeting. I later ran into another collaborator on the grant who said "PI sent me your notes, you were right, we're going to do it your way."

If you are a Lutheran, your religion was founded by Martin Luther, an ex- monk of the Catholic Church, in the year 1517.
If you belong to the Church of England, your religion was founded by King Henry VIII in the year 1534.
If you are a Presbyterian, your religion was founded by John Knox in Scotland in the year 1560.
If you are a Methodist, your religion was launched by John and Charles Wesley in England in 1744.
If you are a Baptist, you owe the tenets of your religion to John Smyth, who launched it in Amsterdam in 1605.
If you are Catholic, you know that your religion was founded in the year 33 by Jesus Christ.

328 Posted by: Icedog at January 22, 2014 09:44 AM (wFGr5) Historical Context. Last night I heard a news report. So I decided this morning to look into it. I referenced the sources and information. Something happened that still matters. It isn't as if the terrorism will make things right, will return things to a proper order. Russia's 1864 Caucuses War was too familiar for all observers today, I venture to say, as all have blood on hands. Yes, some much more than others. Regardless, consider the failing Ottoman Empire blood letting frustrations out on the Armenians. I noticed a wiki 1860s wars referencing every Continent in upheaval, China and Japan each in revolution, South Africa, Mexico, South America, everyone land grabbing and annihilating the indigenous people. And I pay respect to our American Native Tribes who've transcended the plight of genocides to such a moral example that other global regions could learn. Nothing's perfect anywhere. Ignoring a plight is no better than becoming so overwhelmed as to decree a perpetual vendetta for a plight from 150 years ago. No? How you jumped from becoming informed to advocating terrorism to being a dick? Again, go figure.

329 WaPo writing that Davis was about to lose her senate seat, and then writes this; Given all of that, Davis had to run for governor this year — even if she didn't think she could win. We've written that Texas' demographics are changing rapidly — the state is becoming much more Hispanic — but that Democrats will likely have to wait until 2016 or, more likely, 2020, before they can be truly competitive. By running now, Davis effectively reserves her place at — or close — to the front of the line in future statewide races. (This happens all the time in both parties; Ed Gillespie is running for Senate in Virginia this fall with at least one eye on running well and losing but being first in line for governor in 2017.) Unless, of course, Davis is seen as running a sub-par candidacy. And that is where the danger in these résumé questions lies for Davis. If the campaign is dogged by stories about her bio and her star — which is ascendant at the moment — is viewed as tarnished in some real way, then her ability to reserve that place at the front of the line is far less certain. And, remember that both Julian and Joaquin Castro as well as a slew of other ambitious, young Texas Democrats are eyeing Senate race in 2018 and 2020 as well as the governor's race in 2018. What Davis then needs most of all is not to win — although that would be nice for her and her supporters — but rather to be seen as having run a creditable campaign that continues to elevate her star status. Allegations like these about her résumé, if they persist and/or lead to other problems with the campaign, are perilous to that perception.

So make it a bubble wrap suit they could wear all day long and be protected against injury everywhere, not just in cars. and you could filter and purify the air and end exposure to dangerous pollutants at the same time.

I seem to recall a bus carrying a bunch of people from a retirement home that caught fire and the multiple oxygen bottles being carried caused what might have been a minor incident to result in multiple deaths in a massive and uncontrollable fire.

This is the sort of thing that leads me to question all organized religions, even though I am seeking for something righteous.

Can't remember the law's origin, but currently US religions seem to have fallen under the "liberals" always take over any organization no matter what it's founding principles were.

335 Honestly, I'm almost tempted to get the books just to see if they're any good, or just a magnificent trainwreck.

If they had any quotes  close  to the quality of Oscar Wilde's quotes  it would  be worth it.    He  and Churchill were quoting machines.

Also, the Protestant work ethic sort of breaks down when 40 to 50+% of the fruits of your labor are extracted by threat of force by a beneficent government for redistribution!

Well, the good news is that while men can mess up anything, even the day to day workings of the church, it is still His church and will be here through it all.

As one Bishop said, "I will die in my bed, my successor in prison and his martyred. The next will rebuild civilization." (paraphrased)

339 Posted by: Hrothgar at January 22, 2014 10:06 AM (o3MSL) I was just having a discussion with a professor candidate for our department re: Catholic Healthcare and something kinda related to this. The brief take away was that I suspect he thinks that Catholic healthcare does not contain sufficient resilience against becoming just another secular-like healthcare provider. I tend to agree. (Bonus round: I pissed off a couple of junior ethicists from a local Catholic hospital system because in asking my question I referenced an "Everything is possible!" billboard they ran for a while, noting that it was a highly consumerized view of medicine from a system that was ostensibly against that conception of medicine. They said I can't bring that up anymore because they have an "advertising policy that fixes it" I laughed, as if a policy will fix the underlying problem.)

341 Poppins, you sort of anticipated my question when you revealed that the gun is to belong to Von Stroheim. There are a lot of "social factors" that would bear on what gun someone would own. Webley's "Bulldog" was cheap, everywhere, and still in circulation in 1917. Can we safely rule out the Webley-Fosbery? Odd, intricate, and Bogart couldn't pronounce it.

Von Stroheim actually owned a pistol, according to Roger Ebert, and he says there's more information in a book by Thomas Quinn Curtis which you can probably wheel around in your chair and snatch off the shelf. I see him as a Borchardt man, myself. Artillery officer's barrel, of course. For the long shots.

342 Posted by: panzernashorn at January 22, 2014 10:16 AM (MhA4j) Well true. Although I'd note that the advertising isn't to fix the problem. They just conceive the entire problem as being localized to that particular ad campaign (to say nothing of their "Baby is the new Happy" campaign which I found abhorrent, although that may have been a different system.) My point was that the damage is done, a nominally Catholic system has bought into the consumerist view of medicine. They bristled at that. No one likes to be told the truth.

343 @339 The Protestant work ethic is widely misunderstood. It does not mean what you seem to think it means.

344 Yeah... but how do you write "Revelation 21:8" so that it's noticed, but still looks tasteful? Posted by: AllenG Funny world. My trusty old KJV sits easily within arm's reach but I can find Rev 21 much faster searching Bible Gateway... and multiple versions, not just KJV. Keeps me from wearing out those delicate ricepaper pages, but dust on the Bible looks bad.
