HUMP DAAAAAY, YEAAAH.

I didn't actually watch the State of the Union speech or the GOP responses last night. so I'll be spending a bit of today playing catch-up, I guess. Honestly, that guy has exhausted my interest. I have heard from a couple folks already that the GOP responses (all four!) did not satisfy.

The guy who tricked his 7-months pregnant girlfriend into taking an abortion pill was sentenced to nearly 14 years in prison.

Virgin Galactic has banned Chinese tourists from its space flights over espionage concerns.

Disney's decision to pull ABC's shows from Hulu and make them available only on Hulu Plus or for free on the website after a week appears to be backfiring. They're just training people to find and download their shows from copyright infringers.

What I can't understand is why there hasn't been a blizzard of federal court cases challenging TFG on a one-by-one basis. I understand why the GOP hasn't pursued impeachment. It's because they are sackless. But no court challenges??? Puh-leeze

24 I hate people. I hate what they've become. What's a good recipe for a really good snack for the Super Bowl? That's the main concern right now. Use cilantro, it's the herb of choice. Very chic. Oh and sirrochi. And we've got this empty scrotum who has absolutely no leadership traits, qualities or skills and he knows it. So he's just going to scribble some of his ideas down and then put them into motion. He is such a cock. Such an absolute diseased cock. Yet all these "Best Super Bowl Snack" people voted for him. Because they have the brain power of a butt gnat. But not the butt gnats that are in there getting all the good butt candy. The butt gnats that are buzzing around not close enough to get onto the dog's butt. If Obama were in a lifeboat and survival were 50/50, does anyone really think that the rest of the people in the boat would turn to him? They might when it came time to eating someone. So if I see any people today, I'm going to say some really stern things.

25 Yahoo cast a wide net to get reaction to Barry's speech

“Listening to the State of the Union, I can't help but feel invigorated,” Jason W. Schaver, a Fulton, Ill., resident said. When President Obama talked about getting America back to work, I felt enormously proud. Raising the minimum wage would be a great start in closing the gap between the rich and the poor.

Jason you're a cretin

I support the president's call for an increase in the minimum wage, and I wonder at those who think $10.10 is a living wage. It is an embarrassment our poverty levels are so high compared to other developed countries. It is time we invested in ourselves, and part of that is supporting out poorest workers.

— Vickie Mansour-Hasan, Chicago

Of course you support it. You're a complete idiot

So all those Hollywood starts and starlettes, and the big money producers and all those celebrity sports stars making the big bucks are going to continue to do what the do for 60K annual salary because fairness, right?

All those Washington insiders, the multi multi millionaires are going to donate their wealth because fairness, right?

Or is it the other way round, all those minimum wage dishwashers, tire changers, and part time fast food hamburger flippers are suddenly going to start making 60million dollars a year?

Bloggers Makala Earley, Angela Davis and Kathleen Quiring say going paperless is not as messy or unhygienic as it may sound. 'It is definitely possible,' said Mikala, who says she and her husband stopped using toilet paper about a year ago. 'It is almost seen as a necessity [and] it doesn't have to be, and it's been a lot of fun to learn how to do it this way.'

92 WASHINGTON—Following years of continued fighting and disorder in the troubled region, President Barack Obama revealed today that he has not ruled out taking immediate and decisive military action in the United States Congress.

Admitting that diplomatic outreach efforts in the area have so far proven unsuccessful, the president claimed that his administration is weighing the feasibility of committing combat troops to both the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives in order to bring lasting peace and stability to the chaos-afflicted legislature.

“We have not yet made a decision as to how we are going to address this rapidly deteriorating situation, but at this point I can tell you that military action is indeed on the table,” Obama told reporters at a morning press conference, emphasizing that he is “deeply troubled” by the escalating hostilities and diminishing prospects for unity on the Congressional floor. “Clearly, sending our young men and women into this tumultuous war zone is not ideal, and I still hope to resolve the situation through peaceful means. But as the conflict continues to worsen, it becomes increasingly evident that the deployment of our armed forces may be our only real option.”

Military officials say an intervention in Congress would likely involve a three-pronged attack.

“We cannot stand idly by and allow this senseless mayhem to continue,” the president continued.

According to international observers, the United States Capitol ranks as among the most turbulent and unstable regions in the world, dominated by warring factions of rogue lawmakers who have shown neither the ability nor the willingness to peacefully resolve their differences.

As conditions worsen by the day, the president confirmed to reporters that he and his military advisors are currently evaluating the merits of a military option, suggesting that his administration has left open the possibility of toppling the hostile, unpredictable leadership currently reigning over the legislative assembly and restoring order to the Capitol building.

95 BTW, Cubs fan Ayers has said he's in favor of killing 25 million Americans. That presumably includes all of the other teams in the MLB, as well as their AAA and AA farm teams. If the only competition the Cubs have are the A teams, they'll win the World Series - maybe.

96 I was serious about that loser comment...if the Cubs were more successful he would have talked about his fond memories of Wigley Field. As for "all" Sox fans, I can see it in my own family: of the real baseball fans, the Sox fans are, with one exception, conservatives. The Cubs fans, the northsiders and those hailing from the People's Republic of OP, love and support their Dear Leader. :: shrug :: Posted by: Gem

That is not my experience at all.

While south siders (I grew up there, but was raised a cubs fan because of my mom) are more conservative than most Democrats, they are still largely Democrats!

All the black south siders are lib dems.  The white south siders who work for the city or county are all dems!  And that is a sizable percent of the population since it is city law that all employees must live in the city.

North side whites are lib Dems.  I would caution the use of the term "conservative" for anyone living in the city proper.

Between the vast legions of the free-shitters, the white-guilters and aging hippies who just looove them some President Historic First© and the knee-pad media, Choom Boy is more likely to be conked on the noggin by a meteor than suffer any negative consequences for his multiple felonies.

Whatever opposition may have existed has been smothered by the Poppin' Fresh wing of the Republican party, which seems convinced that, in fairness, we must sell what's left of the country down the river so as not to "offend."

112 Here is the real bullshit from last night you should watch out for;

>>LetÂ’s do more to help Americans save for retirement. Today, most workers donÂ’t have a pension. A Social Security check often isnÂ’t enough on its own. And while the stock market has doubled over the last five years, that doesnÂ’t help folks who donÂ’t have 401ks.

ThatÂ’s why, tomorrow, I will direct the Treasury to create a new way for working Americans to start their own retirement savings: MyRA. ItÂ’s a new savings bond that encourages folks to build a nest egg. MyRA guarantees a decent return with no risk of losing what you put in.

And if this Congress wants to help, work with me to fix an upside-down tax code that gives big tax breaks to help the wealthy save, but does little to nothing for middle-class Americans. Offer every American access to an automatic IRA on the job, so they can save at work just like everyone in this chamber can..<<

1- There is no thing as "risk free". That's bullshit.
2- If you don't have a pension and you are not saving. Where do you get the money for this? Who is doing the contributing?
3- If you have the money, mmmm, why not get a better return and why trust the government with your pension? Thanks. I'll leave that to the professionals.
4- Obama still has his eyes on people's 401k's. It is a huge pool of money they are trying to find a way to grab and retroactively tax. This will be the next scheme of the dictatorship...
5- If Congress doesn't flip him the bird on this scheme, it will be the next Obamacare disaster.

113 A beautiful prayer from a mid 1930's hymnal. That's why it has all the "thee and thy" language: For the country: Almighty God, wh in the former time didst lead our fathers forth into a gracious place; give Thy grace, we humbly beseech Thee, to us their children, that we may always approve ourselves a people mindful of Thy favor, and glad to do thy will. Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning and pure religion. Defend our liberties, preserve our unity. Save us from every violence, discord and confusion. from pride and arrogancy, and from every evil way. Fashion into one happy people the multitudes brought hither from many kindreds and tongues. Endue with the spirit of wisdom those whom we entrust in Thy Name with the authority of governance, to the end that there may be peace at home, and that we may keep a place among the nations of the earth. In the time of prosperity fill our hearts with thankfulness; and in the day of trouble suffer not our trust in Thee to fail, all of which we ask for Jesus' sake. Amen.

114 My mom died yesterday after a short illness. I'm convinced she did it to keep me out of federal prison. My congressman had chosen me to be his one guest for SOTU since I lost my insurance due to Obamacare and have had nothing but trouble getting replacement insurance. I've been very vocal and featured in articles in CNN, Yahoo, Inquirer, etc. The GOP had scheduled some press conferences for yesterday. I think my mother knew I'd never be able to curb my ire and was afraid I'd make Joe Wilson look like Casper Milquetoast during the actual speech.

Anyway, she just turned 90, lived in her own house up until the end and came home to die. So although I'll be bereft without her, what else can you ask for in this life? My family will now proceed to fall apart completely since it consists of all Progs (they've already started bashing her faith re: the service) and they could barely conceal their revulsion for my conservative mother even though she was one of the most loving, caring individuals who even lived.

I think there is a multi-facted plan.

I would almost bet that the Executive Order. and probably final draft legislation, are already printed and ready to go to effect Enhanced National Financial Fairness Via Fiscal Health by implementing accelerated Liverpool Path Care for everyone over 67 with immediate confiscation of all assets of anyone that has ever drawn a dime from Social Security, MediCaid, or MediCare, all for the Middle Class of course.

When the next debt ceiling problem arises, and the Republicans act all obstructionist by trying to save a million dollars in 2026, the confiscation of all retirement accounts will be implemented via Executive Order because America must pay its bills.  MyRA accounts will be exempted until you turn 67 and are subjected to a 50% penalty for early withdrawal.

We thank you for the dear and faithful dead, for those who have made the distant heavens a home for us, and whose truth and beauty are even now in our hearts. You Lord, gather people out of earthly light to heavenly glory, from the distractions and strife and weariness of time to the peace of eternity. We thank you. Lord for the labors and joys of these mortal years and for the deep sense of mysteries that lie beyond our dust, and for the eye of faith that sees beyond this life. May the Lord strengthen and comfort you, jean. People react in all kinds of ways after a death. 154 I remember once in must have been the early 80's, taking a shipmate from Charleston to his mothers house in Dalton Georgia for the weekend.  And it began to snow while we were there.

Ultimately, we would up driving back from Dalton Georgia, at night, in my 73 Mach I, with the air shocks, jacked up, L-60's on the back.
Cassettes playing southern rock the entire trip back.
Coming down the home stretch on I-26, so slick that just tapping the brakes caused em to lock up, we were passed in the opposite direction by the only other vehicle we had seen in about the last hour.
S.C. Trooper, who briefly tapped his brakes once, and then continued on his way.
When we pulled into his trailer park, and his girlfriend came to the door, she explained that all the highways, including I-26 had been closed for hours, and how the hell did we make it back.

That section of the south doesn't do snow.

160 I slept so well last night, having omitted the executive order in chief from consciousness. What could he say beyond more of the same thrust? The decomposition of the United States of America, the "it happened a long time ago so what difference at this point does it make" post-constitutionalism that denies identity of any sovereign entity whether the individual human Spirit or of Constitutio Libertatis. True power is persuasive of its own accord. Identify via Fruits, production. Whereas authoritarians (elitists, totalitarians) begetting bureaucracies to enforce orders (which never apply to themselves) are as saboteurs and cannibals of civility and citizenry. The TOTUS spews seeds of persistent destruction. Give them no root in your hearts and minds. And denounce deceit. Being of one heart, take care where your heart is. Hannah Arendt on Power v. Terror/Violence seems relevant to the day's discourse. I came across her name (as well as Bach, Goethe, Schiller, and E.T.A. Hoffmann) having referenced Thuringia, Prussia and Königsberg this morning. wikipedia http://tinyurl.com/o8fhv2b Arendt's essay, "On Violence", distinguishes between violence and power. She maintains that, although theorists of both the Left and Right regard violence as an extreme manifestation of power, the two concepts are, in fact, antithetical. Power comes from the collective will and does not need violence to achieve any of its goals, since voluntary compliance takes its place. As governments start losing their legitimacy, violence becomes an artificial means toward the same end and is therefore, found only in the absence of power. Bureaucracies then become the ideal birthplaces of violence since they are defined as the "rule by no one" against whom to argue and therefore, recreate the missing links with the people they rule over.

181 I was serious about that loser comment...if the Cubs were more successful he would have talked about his fond memories of Wigley Field. As for "all" Sox fans, I can see it in my own family: of the real baseball fans, the Sox fans are, with one exception, conservatives. Hello from Sydney on a very warm Thursday early morning

Condolences JeanneBodine and Sherry - so sad to read your stories and I wish both of you all the best

My dear 89yo MIL is in hospital and I really think she's just given up - she's waited for her 1st great grandchild to be born (he's now 3mo) and she talks about her long dead family a lot - and also all her dearest friends have now gone as well

I mentioned a few nights ago that one of my kitties was in cat ICU and I was going to make the decision later that day to pull the plug - well the bloody cat must have read my thoughts and she's remarkably improved - so much so that she's probably coming home on Sunday

Of course we will be eating stale bread and drinking water for the next year  because of the ginormous vet bills!

I also enjoyed reading comments here and on other sites about the talk by your President -anyone see the comments on Weasel Zippers?  Bloody hilarious some of them!

After being asked by NY1 reporter Michael Scotto about the investigation, Grimm replied, "That’s off-topic. This is only about president’s speech,” and walked off camera. Scotto briefly concluded his report, and Grimm -- assuming the broadcast was over -- returned to admonish the reporter. The camera remained on, however. “Let me be clear to you: You ever do that to me again, I’ll throw you off this f------ balcony,” Grimm threatened.

207 I'm assuming this distinction isn't in there, but I want the courts to tell the jury the law and how to decide. But not the government to force a particular decision via force. Fair enough- though that seems almost tautological (only almost, unfortunately). It *should be* self-evident that the government (via this thing we call "the law") tells the jury "How" to decide (the criteria which must be met). Then the jury looks at a given set of facts, and applies "the law" to those facts, but once the decision is in the jury's hands, the Government does not get to say "In this case, you'd better find X."

No, that exactly what the leftists have been saying since at least the 80s. It's "the woman's body." So if *she* decides to abort, it's all her decision. The man in the picture has exactly zero say. So the rubric is: Woman decided? => "clump of cells" Man decided => "baby murder" See? Perfectly logical. And now I'm going to go throw up.

Although having said that, the more disturbing thing is: they didn't charge him with assault. Setting aside the baby, didn't he also assault the mother? (Unless "drugging" is some other crime than assault, but I didn't see anything even remotely related to that.)

256  @ 227 [CBD] -- One of the more comical Christmases I can remember is the time my brother's in-laws came down to Kentucky from Michigan only to be greeted with an ice storm about midway through their visit. They marveled at how everyone here raided the stores at the first hint of winter precipitation in the forecast.

I can remember the smugness as we tried to warn him: "Oh, you people just don't know how to drive! Hell, I'll go to the store. Just give me a list."

Five minutes and one busted ass later, the brother-in-law walks back in sheepishly. "Man, that car ain't goin' nowhere."

257 Wait, so tricking you to take a drug against your will would be then..not a crime? Would tricking you into taking a multivitamin be a crime worse than "tampering?" Remember- the Leftists want everyone to believe that abortiofacients have NO NEGATIVE SIDE-EFFECTS. They say it over and over (or at least minimize the side-effects to the point that people think of them as being non-existent). IF that is what you believe about them, how is forcing someone to take them harming them? YOU know, and I know that's a metric butt load of bovine-generated organic fertilizer, but that's what people are being told to believe.

267 Live in the NW ATL area and we got about 3 inches of powder.  I teach at a university and driving in realized that things were heading South quickly with nary a DOT truck in sight.  Dismissed the class immediately at 11:15 AM when I found that our University was closing at 1PM because I knew that the roads were getting slick and that a lot of people don't really know how to drive on it.  I wanted my students to get home safely.

Since the day before was a high of 57, the top of the ground was warm and froze the initial snow into ice.  Then, we got powder snow on top of it.

It took me two and a half hours to go about twelve miles but I got home because I knew all of the backroads to get around the accidents at major intersections.  I also drove delivery trucks to grocery stores in my youth in northern Arkansas for the family business in this snow and ice stuff during the 1980's.  Grocery stores in the South always have a run on them during forecasts for snow and ice.

School district piddled around too long to call school.  Because the busses are shared by elementary, middle, and high school, there was chaos due to the 1 PM closing.  Kids were left in my wife's school overnight and my wife was fortunate to bunk with another teacher's mother who lived about 1 mile away.

I hope to see my wife today late this afternoon if she can make it home safely.  There is one upside--my dog loves running around in the snow and likes to eat it.

269       Yeah, I have some aunts and uncles in Atlanta, what a clusterfuck.  People spending 12 hours in their cars trying to get home, etc...   Meanwhile, here in Western NC, we got just as much, if not more, snow as Atlanta, but since everyone has 4WD trucks and the local schools flat-out canceled school instead of waiting for it to start snowing, we did all right.  I drove my wife to work in Waynesville, NC and it only took about 5 to 10 minutes longer than usual.

Apparently, everyone in Atlanta is totally pissed off and looking for someone to blame.  For me, its a toss-up between Obama (who actually mentioned climate change in his speech last night, or so I'm told) and Al Gore (Manbearpig!), but I'm not picky, either one will do when it comes tar-and-feather time....
