Posted by: Anthony L. at January 31, 2014 07:00 AM (34n6F) Got a great recipe from Food.com. I added walnuts as well as baking powder with the baking soda. Only problem with the recipe was they should have gave you how much banana you needed by weight and not number. Had to bake it a bit longer so it was not wet. Turned out perfect.

The gun control debate is Exhibit #1 in the "all politics is local" discussion. State by state, overly restrictive gun laws have been falling down, and it's all due to state organizations.

If you are interested in repealing these overly restrictive gun laws at all, you need to be part of your state organization (regardless if you are part of any national organizations or not). Here in NC it is Grass Roots North Carolina, and they can be found at www.grnc.org

Maybe I'm wrong here, but it never seemed to me that that was a good tactic to begin with. We have a good message. We have a strong message; ie. freedom, self determination, government out of your life, and so on. I have never had a problem getting anyone to agree with my point of view, if political affiliation never comes into it.

The problem is the media, and I am afraid that is a fight we are always going to lose. It's very hard to have a meaningful discussion or debate when people see you as a monster right out of the gate, just because you are a Republican, or Conservative. Talk about prejudice.

116 Maybe I'm wrong here, but it never seemed to me that that was a good tactic to begin with.

--

Very well said.  I've always been befuddled at how we can miss the boat on reaching the vast majority of people.  Don't people inherently long to be free?  If you dig down deep into your soul, isn't that the likely feeling among human beings?  Freedom, independence, the sky's the limit possibilities?  Aside from the fact that I know there are still plenty of weak-minded who want to be taken care of, I'd think the other aspirations are just automatically ingrained in the human psyche.  The message of conservatism is strong, appealing and a natural inclination for the human condition.  What has destroyed that over the decades in America is 1) public education and 2) the media.  If we don't find a way around that, or infiltrate it in a significant manner, the future is not pretty.

122 Today's beautiful hymn-"O Splendor of God's Glory Bright" The words are by Ambrose of Milan, who was born between 337 and 340 and became a Bishop in the Church: "Ambrose is ranked with the great Western Christian leaders of the time: Augustine, St. Jerome, St. Gregory the Great, and St. Hilary of Poitiers. Ambrose was most known for his administrative talents, given his education and early experience before becoming a bishop. Yet, like Hilary he was an Alexandrian and was in the forefront in the doctrinal issues of the day, particularly those concerning Arianism. His sermons were famous and were influential in the conversion of Augustine. His endeavors in hymn writing became models of hymns of dignified simplicity for future times. Ambrose is credited with introducing antiphonal chanting wherein one choir alternates with another. Of particular note is that Ambrose baptized Augustine, his celebrated convert." Hymn from an English music festival: http://tinyurl.com/k65535w Fourth verse fro the hymn: "Dawn's glory gilds the earth and skies; Do Thou, our perfect Morn arise; The Father's help his children claim, and sing the Fathers glorious name."

133 When I take over the government with a bloodless coup, I will have a flat tax, of course. But with a twist; your flat tax rate is based on earnings to date. When you're young, you pay next to nothing. You get to keep the fruits of your labor. You discover that working is good. Over time and accumulated earnings your flat tax rate rises to a max of say 40%. Hit the lottery when you're young? You're screwed forever.

That's an interesting idea, and has some merit.  One big problem, though, is that it would be terrible for people who got laid off from a high-paying job but then later had to settle for a lower-paying job just to pay the bills, or for the long-term unemployed in general if/when they do find work.

Here's a prayer about the divine fire of love by St. Catherine of Siena who lived in the 14th century and is considered a "Doctor" in the faith in the RCC: In your nature, eternal Godhead, I shall come to know my nature. And what is my nature, boundless love? It is fire, because you are nothing but a fire of love. And you have given humankind a share in this nature, for by the fire of love you created us. And so with all other people and every created thing; you made them out of love. O ungrateful people! What nature has your God given you? His very own nature! Are you not ashamed to cut yourself off from such a noble thing through the guilt of deadly sin? O eternal Trinity, my sweet love! You, light, give us light. You, wisdom, give us wisdom. You, supreme strength, strengthen us. Today, eternal God, let our cloud be dissipated so that we may perfectly know and follow your Truth in truth, with a free and simple heart. God, come to our assistance! Lord, make haste to help us! Amen.

Geeze Gabe how on EARTH am I supposed to figure out who is the "ghey voice" in THAT line-up? I still stand by my suggestion that you all vocally identify yourselves at the beginning of each AoSHQ pod-cast for new listeners. I mean, yeah sure, Drew M. is the more high pitched nasal dude who honestly, ALWAYS sounds like he's phoning it in via two tin cans and a string, from a basement, where one of the Saw movies could have been filmed. I would be happy if John Eeek!dahl could plausibly pronounce something topical, in the news, in a way we never thought to read it. (Like names, or chemicals or... "mathematical formulae" at the very least!). I suppose that Andy just has to drawl... By process of elimination, the guy who doesn't sound embarrassed as hell and like he's got a Tom Baker, Dr. Who scarf wrapped 3 times around his mouth is probably the guest. See? I'm learnin'! Actually, you are a very good host Gabe and I am never in doubt about who the guests are.

Posted by: Carol at January 31, 2014 07:08 AM (z4WKX) Curious. Levin has been rather vocal in dismissing Beck as a sideshow clown, a "backbencher," in Levin's words. I'm surprised to see Levin wanting onboard with such an enterprise. ....Is Beck going to do more of his "dividing the country?" Cuz, you know, silly me, I was under the impression that he was serious when he said, to paraphrase, that we are in a struggle for our Republic and possibly our very lives. But now I find out that Beck is ashamed of his rhetoric, and thinks that he was tearing the country apart. ....So, we're NOT supposed to fight the Left anymore? We're supposed to make buddy-buddy, all's well that ends well then? This hippy bullshit is an absolute crock. Either Beck takes this fight seriously, or he doesn't. But if he doesn't, then he needs to stop wasting everyone's fucking time. Plus, most upconvert DVD video to 1080P. The big gain to me is the improvement in audio quality. Blu-Rays have an uncompressed audio stream that is a big improvement over the DVD. 242 At the last HS reunion I attended, heard about two of my small graduating class who had killed themselves, and both were the nicest folks in a sea of us creepy teenagers. Why them, and mean and miserable folk like me just go on living like I've got a right to! Of course, every time I even imagine contemplating it, I remember reading that, in out spiritual development, in the next life we pick up pretty much where we left off in this one, which always made sense to me. And this life or the next, the most important time & place is where & when you are right now, so, that keeps me from thinking I could improve a situation by doing myself in. :/ Never ever think it's a better way out.

243 >>>I still stand by my suggestion that you all vocally identify yourselves at the beginning of each AoSHQ pod-cast for new listeners. We've been doing that for at least three or four podcasts now. Come on back and give us a try!

244 When I take over the government with a bloodless coup, I will have a flat tax, of course. Posted by: Regular Moron at January 31, 2014 07:55 AM (oGrEy) Someone else has probably pointed this out, but that's not a flat tax. I think what you're saying is that you'll eliminate all deductions, which is a fine idea, but that doesn't make a flat tax.

Ya--I'm not seeing anything as "confirmation". Unless Cthulhu said more to other people via email? It's getting changed this morning to people say the police found a body--but I am not seeing where Cthulhu says that in the thread.
