Rep. Bachmann joins other conservatives on a clean debt ceiling bill. "YouÂ’ve got to know when to hold them and when to fold them. My assessment is that most of us donÂ’t think itÂ’s the time to fight." Reps. Labrador and Amash shared similar sentiments last week.
Only Washington, D.C. had a positive "economic confidence index" last year—that is, Gallup's composite of a economic conditions in the U.S. combined with residents' perceptions of those conditions. Gallup notes that political sentiment appears to play a role in economic perception.
Washington Free Beacon's Alana Goodman investigates "the Hillary Papers," unpublished documents contained in the archive of one of Clinton's best friends and advisers. It is must-read.

RCP's Scott Conroy dug deep into Gov. Christie's college years. Good stuff.
Toyota announced it will shut down its Australian manufacturing by 2017. Quite simply, it's cheaper to manufacture elsewhere (especially here in the U.S.) and ship to Australia. The company had been trying to reduce its labor costs by amending contracts, but that got nixed by the country's court system. Toyota was the last of the automakers to announce that it is leaving Australia. Once it pulls out, Australia will have no consumer carmaker.
Ya'll be good to each other today.

Ever see "Somewhere In Time?" An average film but elevated by many degrees because of Barry's wonderful, haunting score.
Barry was great at coming up with musical earworms. The titles to Raise the Titanic!, Out of Africa and The Scarlet Letter always bring a lump to my throat.

In some way, I imagine Shrillery is absolutely thrilled by America's slavering support for Choom Boy. His experience (who woulda thought you could use those two words together?) has surely shown her that she can force much more of her communistic, man-hating, revenge-seeking agenda down the public's throats.
After all, there was enough public push-back over her "health care" plan that it had to be abandoned. President Historic First's© "plan" got through, and so have enough illegal actions to convince her she can run roughshod over us all without fear of negative consequences.

It was the latest blow to the chances for immigration reform, which now hang on the very question of whether Republicans can trust President Obama to enforce the laws.
“Yet again, this administration is abusing the powers granted it by Congress,” Rep. Bob Goodlatte, Virginia Republican, said after he had a chance to digest the changes. As chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Mr. Goodlatte likely would be the chief Republican negotiator on any immigration bill, and his evaluation of the president’s willingness to reinterpret the law is indicative of where many of his colleagues stand.

The agents were equally disturbed by the Clinton's predilection for squabbling in public. William Bell, a former member of the White House detail, recalled yet another pitched battle as Bill and Hillary rode together in a limousine - he in the front, she in the back. Once again, an enraged Hillary flung a briefing book at Bill, inadvertently hitting the agent behind the wheel in the back of the head.

I hope all my fellow morons have watched the clip in the sidebar of Laura Ingraham slattering George Will and the open border turds on FNS. I don't listen to Laura any more because I find Levin and Tammy Bruce more to my liking, but she nearly turned that twat Juan Williams autistic with his pathetic whining about "OMG they'll deport grandmothers". The Forbes article on it is good as well.
I'm listening to Levin from Friday blasting those WSJ eunuchs for being consistently wrong on this subject since the 80s. I think he's off today but I hope when he returns he plays the clip on his show and gives her credit for fighting the fight very effectively.

Yeah, Prometheus was just sloppy everything - sloppy story, sloppy script, sloppy production.
Remakes work best if there's something about the original movie that had potential but was never developed. I can't think of one damned thing about The Black Hole that was just screaming for a proper treatment.

Is it now possible for employees to fear getting a raise, because the raise might jeopardize their Healthcare subsidy?
And what happens when contractual requirements cause a raise, and the employee doesn't want it?
Does the employee ask for reduced hours to stay below the income cap?
Will the employer be required to hire another employee to cover the reduced hours of the original employee?
Does the Union,if involved, force the employee to accept the raise, and collide with the income cap?
Could this be another unintended consequence of this rolling goat f*ck of a plan?

Why on earth is it OK to encourage federal peer pressure ("nudging" as Cass Sunstein likes to call it) on individuals to purchase something - anything? This is not America.

Is it too much to ask any of the Republican stalwarts to make the point that if 404Care is so fucking great, why is its implementation always being pushed back after elections and why are there any exemptions to this sterling piece of wonderfulness? I think most of the dumbasses already get this but you can't be too sure these days.

I hear you.
But imagine the dinner table discussion for a moment.
Dad: Boss offered me a fifteen thousand dollar a year raise today.
Mom: That's great Honey!
Dad: Had to turn it down.
Mom: ?
Dad: It would have cost us money in the end by losing our healthcare subsidy.
Mom: Sure dodged a bullet on that one.
Dad: Remember kids, do your homework. Make a success out of your lives.
Kids: I don't want to be punished by a successful job.
Mom: Now where did you ever come up with that silly idea?

I explained to her that it's mainly ice on blacktop, with maybe a little melt on it, that you can't tell is there because..well it's black because of the BLACKtop. No she still thinks it's the most evil of all ices.

First off: Denim Day remember that?
Is Christie just a politician without any principals or is he a politician with some core value and if so what are they? Nothing he did at U-Delaware really bothers me. I wrote my own congressman when they threatened financial aid even though I never got a nickle of it. When you are in college and especially when you represent other college kids as their student president of course you want good things for your peeps. This quote kind of bothered me:
“He was interested in politics but not principle,” said Abbott, now a Delaware-based attorney. “Part of the evidence of that, in my opinion, would be that he, in my two years that overlapped his, was never involved in the College Republicans.”
However, that seems a little like Rich Abbot was a former butt hurt College Republicans himself. Let's face it no one likes the College Republicans. The guys doing that are always the ones that want to sit on your bed at 2 am and go on and on about the Reagan Revolution when you just want to go to sleep or drink or find some girls.
Earlier there were some nice quotes about him sticking up for other students right to speak which I liked. It's not easy to stand up for a someones right to speak in the echo chamber that is a college campus.

And yep, got into an argument over whether such things are actually "sports." I agree with you that if there's no objective measure of performance, like a time, it isn't a sport. If you have to cater to some guy's opinion, then it's not a fair contest.

That was my reaction to the NYT perceptatron mirror article, but was too low on caffeine.
It just looked too much like the left's use of envy and jealousy to fuel rage the left could use as levers to manipulate masses of people. Only in the case of single mothers, the left fuels the self indulgent search for self gratification while destroying the family, then applies the guilt cudgel to everyone else to manipulate the masses. As though it's our fault.

lotta places have a 'bare roads' policy where the first snow flake sighting ignites a logistics monster that pours tons of salt on the road surface. The result is a trace of snow generates salty road slime that destroys automobiles, and this is called 'public safety'.

"The fight to change the Redskins name won't die. And it's become an issue among the nation's lawmakers.
Two members of Congress will send a letter to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Monday, telling him to publicly announce support for a name change -- and that the NFL can no longer ignore the issue.
Redskins spokesman Tony Wyllie said in a statement, "With all the important issues Congress has to deal with such as a war in Afghanistan to deficits to health care, don't they have more important issues to worry about than a football team's name? And given the fact that the name of Oklahoma means 'Red People' in Choctaw, this request is a little ironic."

In areas that get a lot of snow, dirt is more important than salt. Plow the snow, leave dirt behind the 'salt' truck. The grit in the snow gives better traction than ice with salty snow melt on top of it.
The plow truck really isn't a 'salt' truck it's a 'sand' truck, and the salt prevents the sand from freezing into sandstone in the truck.

As Monty would say, DOOM! The story of the Aussie car manufacturing collapse is a bit more complex.
The "large car" market, which includes the Aussie-designed Holden Monaro/Commodore/Caprice (seen in the US as the Pontiac GTO/G8 and the Chevrolet SS/Caprice Police Interceptor), the Aussie-only Ford Falcon, and the Toyota Camry, collapsed starting in 2008. At the same time, the Australian dollar began to strengthen against other currencies, especially the American dollar. All three companies received bailouts from the socialist Australian government at the time, with Holden seeking a second bailout over the summer of 2013 in the leadup to the Australian federal elections.
Predictably, none of them really realigned their Australian production to reflect the changed car market. Ford was the first to call it quits in May. Government Motors waited until the new anti-corporate welfare government was installed to announce its departure. Toyota hung on until the courts fucked their plan to cut costs by A$3800 (US$3387) per vehicle.
