Happy Monday.

Rep. Bachmann joins other conservatives on a clean debt ceiling bill. "YouÂ’ve got to know when to hold them and when to fold them. My assessment is that most of us donÂ’t think itÂ’s the time to fight." Reps. Labrador and Amash shared similar sentiments last week.

Only Washington, D.C. had a positive "economic confidence index" last year—that is, Gallup's composite of a economic conditions in the U.S. combined with residents' perceptions of those conditions. Gallup notes that political sentiment appears to play a role in economic perception.

Washington Free Beacon's Alana Goodman investigates "the Hillary Papers," unpublished documents contained in the archive of one of Clinton's best friends and advisers. It is must-read.

Geeks with significant others, I've got a a Valentine's Day possibility for you.

NYTimes' Opinionator blog has an excellent column on single motherhood from Kay Hymowitz.

RCP's Scott Conroy dug deep into Gov. Christie's college years. Good stuff.

Toyota announced it will shut down its Australian manufacturing by 2017. Quite simply, it's cheaper to manufacture elsewhere (especially here in the U.S.) and ship to Australia. The company had been trying to reduce its labor costs by amending contracts, but that got nixed by the country's court system. Toyota was the last of the automakers to announce that it is leaving Australia. Once it pulls out, Australia will have no consumer carmaker.

Ya'll be good to each other today.

7 Sorry I missed you all. My aunt passed away this weekend. Remarkable woman. Survived both Hitler and the Hungarian communists. Went through some tough personal situations here, but she was always full of life, never let her persecution define or conquer her, was a comfort and friend to all she knew and loved this country to the day she died. RIP Irene.

In some way, I imagine Shrillery is absolutely thrilled by America's slavering support for Choom Boy. His experience (who woulda thought you could use those two words together?) has surely shown her that she can force much more of her communistic, man-hating, revenge-seeking agenda down the public's throats.

After all, there was enough public push-back over her "health care" plan that it had to be abandoned. President Historic First's© "plan" got through, and so have enough illegal actions to convince her she can run roughshod over us all without fear of negative consequences.

55 The same week the White House was assuring Republicans they could trust him to enforce immigration laws, the Obama administration quietly announced that it was reinterpreting the rules for refugees and asylum seekers so applicants could be approved even if they had given “limited” material support for terrorism.

It was the latest blow to the chances for immigration reform, which now hang on the very question of whether Republicans can trust President Obama to enforce the laws.

“Yet again, this administration is abusing the powers granted it by Congress,” Rep. Bob Goodlatte, Virginia Republican, said after he had a chance to digest the changes. As chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Mr. Goodlatte likely would be the chief Republican negotiator on any immigration bill, and his evaluation of the president’s willingness to reinterpret the law is indicative of where many of his colleagues stand.

66 Nor were they [ Secret Service ]willing to caddy ... tasks that might prevent them from concentrating on their principal job: to protect the President.  When an agent explained this to Hillary ... she looked him over carefully. "If you want to remain on this detail," she said, "get your f*cking a@@ over here and grab those bags."

The agents were equally disturbed by the Clinton's predilection for squabbling in public. William Bell, a former member of the White House detail, recalled yet another pitched battle as Bill and Hillary rode together in a limousine - he in the front, she in the back. Once again, an enraged Hillary flung a briefing book at Bill, inadvertently hitting the agent behind the wheel in the back of the head.

84 Moreover, the regulation itself is so poorly constructed that it presents unforeseen hurdles for franchisees. Pizzas, sandwiches, and burritos, among other common fast-food meals, can be custom-ordered in hundreds of combinations, and the law arguably requires restaurants to provide customers with calorie data for each. It’s also unclear whether non-traditional food retailers—for example, bookstore cafes, hotel minibars, and food trucks—will be subject to the labeling requirements. Furthermore, it’s unclear what penalties restaurateurs will face if they inadvertently fail to comply.

89 Hillary hates a whiny bitch yet she simultaneously bemoans the weakness in others whilst sitting back and playing the fool to Bill's lack of maturity and self-control.

And to think that prized piece of crap was once a Republican.

122 I like how her friend's papers say that Hillary argued in private in the '90s that single payer was her goal. It was 'absolutely necessary' to paraphrase. And yet in 2008 she vehemently denied that as her goal on many occasions. Left out of the entire discussion is that under the draft of HillaryCare, any doctor or nurse treating a patient privately committed an actual felony. When she is elected the Country will be unrecognizable and will descend into chaos. She is arguably a monster who will cause death and destruction on a 20th Century scale and forever destroy the memory of a Free United States.

140 In deciding whether to hire Ms. Wagner, neither her politics nor those of the law school's faculty should have been relevant. Yet the day after the law-school faculty voted to reject Ms. Wagner, in January 2007, Associate Dean Jon Carlson wrote to Dean Jones in an email, "Frankly, one thing that worries me is that some people may be opposed to Teresa serving any role, in part at least because they so despise her politics (and especially her activism about it). ... Other than by looking to politics, it is difficult to explain the law school's efforts to avoid hiring Ms. Wagner. ...

Hiring decisions should be based on candidates' merits, including their ability to vigorously present in the classroom and criticize conservative as well as progressive views. If the Eighth Circuit protects Teresa Wagner's constitutional rights, the court will also bolster legal education in America by promoting its depoliticization.

... first, Associate Dean Jon Carlson should be fired, nothing else, for putting in writing something that should never have been recorded, if even uttered .. and this fool works at a Law School of all places.  I wouldn't hire him to represent my cat.

Is it now possible for employees to fear getting a raise, because the raise might jeopardize their Healthcare subsidy?

And what happens when contractual requirements cause a raise, and the employee doesn't want it?
Does the employee ask for reduced hours to stay below the income cap?
Will the employer be required to hire another employee to cover the reduced hours of the original employee?
Does the Union,if involved, force the employee to accept the raise, and collide with the income cap?

Could this be another unintended consequence of this rolling goat f*ck of a plan?

182 I'm so glad someone at the NYT wrote a sensible article about deliberate single motherhood. I am tired of single mothers being held up as paragons of virtue by popular culture and the dems. All the hard luck stories about hardworking ppl getting the short end of the stick seem to be about single mothers. If you just got knocked up through carelessness or not being bothered to be married to your father, no, I do not applaud your single motherhood. You are not the same as a widow or abandoned wife (including women whose husbands were using them as punching bags) who, through no fault of her own is left to raise kids alone. It's a great thing if you try to do the best you can for your kids, but no, single motherhood is not a virtue, and once you have the first child illegitimately, try not to do it again. I will give them one thing. At least they didn't have their kids dismembered in utero. I say this as someone with a close relative who had a child out of wedlock and is now raising that wonderful young man who has turned out to be an intelligent, caring person.

195 Happy story for the day. LADSON, S.C. — Charleston County sheriff's deputies are investigating the shooting death of a man in Ladson. A man told deputies he shot and killed a man Sunday morning who tried to rob him with a stun gun. The coroner's office says the dead man was 25-year-old Robert Deziel of Summerville. An autopsy was planned Monday. Maj. Eric Watson said a homeowner said he was walking to his car when a white man approached him in the driveway and tried to shock him with a stun gun. Watson said the two men struggled until the homeowner pulled a handgun and shot the attacker. No charges have been filed. The homeowner was taken to Trident Medical Center for injuries he sustained during the struggle. His name has not been released. He was a senior citizen who, along with his wife, had been robbed and assaulted previously. But remember, only the police should have guns.

But the local roads were brutal. I was slipping and sliding at so many places, and then I remembered a steep downhill portion that I would have to take. That was really scary. I must have slowed down to 5 mph then. Thankfully, the drivers behind me were sensible enough to keep their distance. Snow is very pretty but no fun to drive on in a little car.

198 Christie article

First off: Denim Day remember that?

Is Christie just a politician without any principals or is he a politician with some core value and if so what are they?  Nothing he did at U-Delaware really bothers me.  I wrote my own congressman when they threatened financial aid even though I never got a nickle of it.  When you are in college and especially when you represent other college kids as their  student president of course you want good things for your peeps.  This quote kind of bothered me:

“He was interested in politics but not principle,” said Abbott, now a Delaware-based attorney. “Part of the evidence of that, in my opinion, would be that he, in my two years that overlapped his, was never involved in the College Republicans.”

However, that seems a little like Rich Abbot was a former butt hurt College Republicans himself.  Let's face it no one likes the College Republicans.  The guys doing that are always the ones that want to sit on your bed at 2 am and go on and on about the Reagan Revolution when you just want to go to sleep or drink or find some girls.

Earlier there were some nice quotes about him sticking up for other students right to speak which I liked.  It's not easy to stand up for a someones right to speak in the echo chamber that is a college campus.

It just looked too much like the left's use of envy and jealousy to fuel rage the left could use as levers to manipulate masses of people. Only in the case of single mothers, the left fuels the self indulgent search for self gratification while destroying the family, then applies the guilt cudgel to everyone else to manipulate the masses. As though it's our fault.

It's that there is no objective way to measure it and so no way to say for certain one competitor is better than the other. I also think that favorites in a sport are judged less harshly, kind of like how Jordan was hardly ever called for fouls. Then there is the outright collusion between judges (fucking French).

lotta places have a 'bare roads' policy where the first snow flake sighting ignites a logistics monster that pours tons of salt on the road surface. The result is a trace of snow generates salty road slime that destroys automobiles, and this is called 'public safety'.

Sinkholes. You better stop driving that little car. You'll fall through.

Posted by: chique d'afrique (the artist formerly known as african chick) at February 10, 2014 08:59 AM (r+7wo) I believe itÂ’s from the global warning freezing weather. The temps have been extreme & will cause cracks & potholes.

Because everyone expects Dems to be scumbags.

It's only surprising when they're not.

That's why it's OK for Dems to have scandals, but not Republicans.

The plows don't help. The freeze thaw cycle really makes the road pop though.
I saw a sign the other day to warn of an area coming up that was thick with potholes, Caution. Road Lane Separation next 5 miles.

Awww sounds much better then TIRE POPPING DITCHES AHEAD!!!

"The fight to change the Redskins name won't die. And it's become an issue among the nation's lawmakers.

Two members of Congress will send a letter to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Monday, telling him to publicly announce support for a name change -- and that the NFL can no longer ignore the issue.

Redskins spokesman Tony Wyllie said in a statement, "With all the important issues Congress has to deal with such as a war in Afghanistan to deficits to health care, don't they have more important issues to worry about than a football team's name? And given the fact that the name of Oklahoma means 'Red People' in Choctaw, this request is a little ironic."

254 Water gets in cracks, freezes, expands, creating bigger cracks.

255 Road Salt,
In areas that get a lot of snow, dirt is more important than salt. Plow the snow, leave dirt behind the 'salt' truck. The grit in the snow gives better traction than ice with salty snow melt on top of it.

The plow truck really isn't a 'salt' truck it's a 'sand' truck, and the salt prevents the sand from freezing into sandstone in the truck.

256 >>Posted by: chique d'afrique (the artist formerly known as african chick) at February 10, 2014 08:59 AM (r+7wo) Some of the back roads here, (because of the extreme cold) even when bare, are like driving on washboards from the heaves in the surface. They drop down after a thaw, but cracks remain.

257 I've mentioned this before but back in the late '80s or early early '90s Bill and Hillary were going around the Country building their machine for Bill's run. I had a lifelong friend who was a yellow dog Democrat. We were good friends who as a rule never discussed politics. Anyway, he and I met for coffee one morning as we often did and he was really really down. I asked him what was wrong and he said he had gone to a big Democratic rally the night before and he'd gone with an old girlfriend he had always wanted to get back together with. After the rally, they went to some donor's house with the Clintons and about 50 others. At some point his girl just vanished. He looked everywhere and asked around but finally figured she ditched him and went home. That morning he'd called a girlfriend of hers he'd seen at the rally. Yep. My friend's girl went home with Slick Willy. My friend is now a 'Progressive'. Apparently when they screw your girl and steal your money you are supposed to double down.

261 #244, Salt is hard on road materials. Potholes are caused by freeze/thaw heaving and poor underlayment. Often there will be a patch of clay or other unstable soil under an area where potholes form. To truly fix one, you need to dig out the bad area completely then fille with material that will both drain well and pack down under pressure.

266 Then there is the Chicago pothole.  To repair the pothole, the road crew put asphalt into the hole.  But they intentionally leave a "muffin-top" slightly sticking up.  When the snow plow comes along later, the patch gets popped.

Job security.

268 @131 - I've read the original "Alien - Engineers" script.  It's much better than Prometheus (the instructions on band-aids are better than Prometheus), but basically it wasn't anything that special on its own.

As Monty would say, DOOM!  The story of the Aussie car manufacturing collapse is a bit more complex.

The "large car" market, which includes the Aussie-designed Holden Monaro/Commodore/Caprice (seen in the US as the Pontiac GTO/G8 and the Chevrolet SS/Caprice Police Interceptor), the Aussie-only Ford Falcon, and the Toyota Camry, collapsed starting in 2008.  At the same time, the Australian dollar began to strengthen against other currencies, especially the American dollar.  All three companies received bailouts from the socialist Australian government at the time, with Holden seeking a second bailout over the summer of 2013 in the leadup to the Australian federal elections.

Predictably, none of them really realigned their Australian production to reflect the changed car market.  Ford was the first to call it quits in May.  Government Motors waited until the new anti-corporate welfare government was installed to announce its departure.  Toyota hung on until the courts fucked their plan to cut costs by A$3800 (US$3387) per vehicle.

Today is young & already it is starting off on wrong foot. Three things are broken or screwed up. Usually mouse will say it needs batteries, its connection is lost.
