Happy Monday.

National Journal's Josh Kraushaar has a must-read piece on Democrats' Obamacare denial.

New Zealand's prime minister refutes claim that he his a shape-shifting reptilian space alien ushering humanity towards enslavement. But, isn't that exactly what a shape-shifting reptilian space alien would say?

Eugene Volokh is writing (republishing an article, actually) about Islamic law in American courts. I've read his article; definitely worth a look.

Good Morning Morons.  Today is Tuesday, February 18, 2014.  On this day in 2001 Dale Earnhardt died in a crash at Daytona.  And one year ago today the press was mad at Ocrapweasel for sneaking off and playing golf with Tiger Woods.  I predicted they would get over real quick and go back to mouthing his parts.  I was right.

5 Obviously this is some kind of a joke news article.  Headline/lead at Fox:

Five-year anniversary of ObamaÂ’s stimulus renews partisan fight over jobs, economy[b/]

The five-year anniversary Monday of President ObamaÂ’s stimulus package has prompted Democrats and Republicans to spar again over the economy and whether the roughly $800 billion in spending created the number of jobs promised.

The Democrats spew forth on lie after another.  The counter argument from Republicans is that it didn't work and just jacked up spending.

The real argument is they jacked up spending  to a $1T deficit and it was mainly directed towards socialist projects for inner cities (corruption for cronies program) with another healthy slice going to green cronies.  Small amounts went to rebuilding government buildings.  The touted highway building was a lie.  All they did was stick signs up at highways under construction.  At least FDR's wasteful big spending did go to useful infrastructure.

And guess what?  We are STILL running $1T deficits.  Does that mean we are getting stimulus every year?

So what did all this government spending get us?  We are still mired in the second great depression that the lying Democrats said we avoided with unemployment even higher than what they had then (30%+)  and we also have runaway inflation in commodities, especially food.

And that is because Keynesian economics simply do NOT work.  They epitomize the broken window principle, as all government spending does.

I know, this post looks like a Monty Doom article.

The stupid, it burns:

An Oregon Democrat says he wants to create federal legislation that would set up each child born in the United States with a savings account as part of a major revamping of the countryÂ’s tax code.

What in the Hell does yet another government cheese program have to do with the frigging tax code?

And the thought of this turd and Chuckcheasehead rewriting the tax code gives me the willies.

11 It used to be that water wars only occurred in the West where water is a limited quantity.  Well we have a major one going on between AL, GA, and FL.  The war is primarily because of Atlanta usage as more and more Detroit citizens flee to Atlanta, the so-call black Beverly Hills.  My take on the whole mess is that, like what is going on in CA now, the whole mess is caused by eco-Nazi laws.

12 And speaking of eco-Nazis, a CO county wants to take a couple's land using eminent domain not for any kind of public "use".  They want it just to keep people off of it in one of the so-called open/green space schemes.  And the sad thing about this is even if this couple has the money to fight this in court they will lose.  Kelo rewrote the Constitution from "public use" to "public purpose" and it did not limit it if the purpose was stupid.  Citizens must push for limits on the use of imminent domain takings.

The professionals being interviewed were Ivy League, Georgetown University. Had the problem remained isolated to "State" educated professionals, as has been the case for decades already, the issue wouldn't have "warranted" the exposé broadcast. Yes, the Univ.prez was asked if the institution is "moral" in taking students' money with no intention or ability to provide employment opportunity. Duh, that's always been the case. Education for education's sake -- and the prezzy said it's the students' fault for buying studies that won't financially benefit them. The point of comprehension.

In the towns I am familiar with usually the head police officer reports to the Mayor. County police report to the county Sheriff who then reports to the council, usually through one member who keeps the rest of the council up to date.

Mayors and county sheriffs and councils are elected. And the local police and sheriff's department here in the South, other than a few isolated instances, have been vastly cleaned up from the old days.

So in essence if the problem children seem to come from the city/town PD, the only election that can change them is for mayor or city council?

While our town PD isn't going full retard or Judge Dredd wanabe, our PD has been wasting a lot of money on fancy new SUVs where a more economical street car or cruiser would do just as well or better.

Looking for the best lever I can have come voting season to influence (or at least try) this shit.

Vandalism stopped being a crime when committed by "artists" about forty years ago (unless you spray paint the building Shepard Fairey owns *spit*).  But the collector will be financially OK; this is a heavily-insured traveling exhibition, I saw it when it came to Indy last year.

And the perp destroyed an Ai Weiwei vase...Weiwei became internationally famous after being photographed destroying Ming vases (these are the photos mentioned in the story), to mixed reactions.  I had to conclude since Weiwei purchased the vases, they were his to do whatever he liked, even if it was stupid and senseless.  I'm curious what he thinks about his work getting destroyed.  Shit, this was probably a plan to finagle and introduction, and "protesting" the gallery just sounds good for the news.

96 An Oregon Democrat says he wants to create federal legislation that would set up each child born in the United States with a savings account as part of a major revamping of the countryÂ’s tax code. .... Not only is there calculation wrong from a mathematical standpoint, as was demonstrated in a post last night, but it also fails to recognize the damage done when a false floor is created where everyone is a millionaire. When everyone is a millionaire, a million will mean nothing at all. And, that savings plan still won't do anything to change the basic nature of capitalism, that is to say that many will arrive at old age with millions more due to their hard work and ingenuity. Unless, of course, capitalism itself is a bygone concept.

103 A tipster tried to warn the Labor Department in 2011 that its unemployment statistics were being fabricated by the people at the Census Bureau who compile the data.

But the warning was either missed or ignored by Labor.

That allegedly allowed the data falsification to go on for years.

As IÂ’ve been telling you, the falsification is now the subject of a number of investigations, including one by the House Oversight Committee and CongressÂ’ Joint Economic Committee.

Also investigating is the Office of the Inspector General at the Commerce Department, which is in charge of Census. And IÂ’m hearing that the US Attorney in the Philadelphia region is also poking around the matter, although a spokeswoman wouldnÂ’t confirm that.

And, of course, I am also investigating. IÂ’m waiting for the Commerce Department to comply with my Freedom of Information Act request for e-mails and text messages between people in the Philadelphia Census office.

So far, all IÂ’ve heard is that the FOIA request is being worked on.

At the core of all these investigations is solid evidence that at least one surveyor — a guy named Julius Buckmon, working out of the Philadelphia Census office but polling in Washington, DC — submitted fake household surveys that were used in compiling the Labor Department’s unemployment rate.

Because of the scientific nature of the Labor Department survey, BuckmonÂ’s actions alone would have affected the responses of some 500,000 households.

But as I’ve been reporting, the scam was allegedly much larger than that and included other surveyors (or enumerators as they are called) over many years. And supervisors at least two levels up are said to have known about — and covered up — the scandal.

So far Congress has mainly been asking questions about the Buckmon incident and his supervisorsÂ’ actions. But the inquiry is likely to get broader, especially if correspondences between people in the Philadelphia office show a conspiracy to make the unemployment rate look better than it really was.

The brass ring for the Republicans who control the Oversight Committee, of course, would be if they find evidence that the national unemployment rate was rigged right before the 2012 presidential election.

I previously reported that there were whispers inside the Philadelphia office that people high up wanted the jobless rate to come down before President Obama was up for re-election. And, in fact, it did drop sharply two months before the vote.

Up until now, the focus has mainly been on the Census Bureau, which, besides the unemployment rate, conducts surveys for a lot of government agencies and private concerns.

The Labor Department and its Bureau of Labor Statistics division have been largely left out of this controversy and viewed simply as the victims of the Census BureauÂ’s deceit.

My next few paragraphs may change that.

In late August 2011, a manila envelope containing evidence of falsified data was sent to Keith Hall, who was then in charge of the BLS. “The Philadelphia Regional office [of Census] … engaged in a cover-up after it was reported that members of its staff falsified data in an effort to meet goals,” said the anonymous letter, a copy of which I have in front of me.

The letter identified the two supervisors who arranged the cover-up.

“In an effort to satisfy the sponsor [the BLS] … the numbers were literally made up,” said the tipster.

The BLS never acted on the letter. And thatÂ’s ironic because Hall, who was pushed out of the Labor Department in 2012, had been skeptical of the truthfulness of the BLSÂ’s jobless numbers.

I interviewed Hall last July for this column, and he said at the time that the unemployment rate was “misleadingly low.” However, back then Hall — who is now at George Mason University — was attributing the misrepresentation to statistical anomalies in the way the unemployment rate is calculated and not outright fraud.

I asked Hall Monday if he remembers receiving an envelope containing evidence that data was being falsified. He didn’t. “I would have remembered that,” he said.

Did the envelope get lost in the mail? The tipster had a tracer on it through the Postal Service. Did someone else read the note, which, admittedly, was a little confusing, and choose to ignore it?

Hall said he would have investigated had he known. “We couldn’t not take that seriously and look into it,” he said.

So what does this all mean?

My readers already know that the nation’s jobless rate is a screwed-up and worthless indicator. By definition, it declines — as it now is doing — when workers get discouraged and stop looking for jobs.

And it will rise if the day ever comes when jobs are plentiful and people start looking again.

On top of that, we now know that the unemployment rate can be rigged by a very few cheats — aided by the inability of bureaucrats to root out fraud even when it’s laid in front of them in a letter.

I find the fact that the Federal Reserve says it still makes policy based on the unemployment rate mind-boggling.

Interesting article about the upcoming transition over at the WaPo, including descriptions of the system's seemingly bizarre specificity:

"There are different numbers for getting struck or bitten by a turkey (W61.42 or W61.43). There are codes for injuries caused by squirrels (W53.21) and getting hit by a motor vehicle while riding an animal (V80.919), spending too much time in a deep-freeze refrigerator (W93.2) and a large toe that has gone unexpectedly missing (Z89.419)."

Anyone with two nickels to their name fled Macon if they had any means to do so. I bought a house in Perry. At the time it was idealic. Safe, clean, and a great place to raise kids.

That shit was not allowed to continue as the dirtbags that drove decent folk out of Macon follwed them to Perry/Warner Robins since the only concentrated money in the area is around Robins AFB as the primary employer for all of middle GA.

Oh Jeebus. I was gulled into watching 'Lympics coverage last night, and NBC was showing clips from a "documentary" they have made about Harding and Nancy Kerrigan, complete with fresh interviews and -- no doubt -- new, in-depth research.

They have piled enough peripheral human-interest "up close and personal" bullshit into the broadcasts to totally wipe out whatever atoms of respect I had left for the Olympics.

Any contest decided by a panel of unseen "judges" may be athletic, but is NOT a sport. Moreover, anyone who spends every waking moment training for the games is no amateur. Jim Thorpe would see the various countries' hockey teams and laugh his de-medaled ass off.

Now that NASCAR has become a rules-mad, image-driven parody of its former self, ain't much to watch on the teevee, sports-wise.

156 116 cycles It's like the public outcry vs. the abuses from the IRS during Republican administrations. The Kinder Gentler compassionate conservative slapped the IRS wrists for abusing powers and abusing citizen taxpayers and for making an ugly scene on GOP watch. A pretty but impermanent mirage. Ask Joe the Plumber and Tea Party non-profits. Just how far did that policy or law go, reprimanding the IRS for damaging the public trust? Disappeared with TARP and W's departing executive order authorizing the Office of the Secretary of Treasury (Pirate Paulson) with autonomy. Next administration, ACA authorizes the IRS to strip the citizenry of all possessions and throw the non compliant into prison, children into CPS, regardless of reasons for noncompliance. The non compliant citizen having challenged federal over-extension of authority can be disappeared, no thanks to The Patriot Act compassionate conservative's gift that keeps on giving disregard for Constitutional Governance, as each subsequent administration corrupts our nation further into the authoritarianism chaos that was presumed to be more effective governance than maintaining integrity of official purpose/constraints and a balance between branch powers.

The acne kid has to go in for meds which used to cost $30 office visit deductible twice a year and $20 deductible monthly for meds. The office visit this time was $150 and the meds were $90 per month. He has four kids and all are acne covered even the smallest one. As a senior civil engineer he thought he had a Cadillac plan. I explained that he got a pay cut because his insurance (that his cost in premium went up too) is worth a lot less than it used to be. 158 Creeping Sharia law, does that mean a Christian could not have four wives? That only under Sharia compliant contract law could a Muslim man have four wives? (In the United States.) Then does that mean that 'equal protection' means only that your contract is be adjudicated 'fairly' under the legal system in which it was written, and not that the results of the contract will be judged. So Muslim could have slaves? In the United States, as long as it's legal under Sharia? We're gonna need more lawyers.

162 BATH, Maine (AP) -- Some of the Navy's futuristic weapons sound like something out of "Star Wars," with lasers designed to shoot down aerial drones and electric guns that fire projectiles at hypersonic speeds. That future is now. The Navy plans to deploy its first laser on a ship later this year, and it intends to test an electromagnetic rail gun prototype aboard a vessel within two years. For the Navy, it's not so much about the whiz-bang technology as it is about the economics of such armaments. Both costs pennies on the dollar compared with missiles and smart bombs, and the weapons can be fired continuously, unlike missiles and bombs, which eventually run out. "It fundamentally changes the way we fight," said Capt. Mike Ziv, program manager for directed energy and electric weapon systems for the Naval Sea Systems Command. And obama hasn't cut this yet? And in statute of limitations news:

A woman in South Carolina was arrested and jailed overnight over a nine-year overdue video rental.

Kayla Finley, 27, had visited a police station to report a crime, only to find a warrant for her arrest had been issued in 2005, when she was 18. Ms Finley had rented a VHS copy of romantic comedy Monster In Law, starring Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda.

Police said several warning letters about the overdue video were sent to Ms Finley, but she had since changed address. She was charged with "failure to return rented video cassette" and will appear in court at a later date.

My older brother told me to that I would like Shameless on Showtime. I started watching it from season 1 on demand in December or January. The how is usually LOL funny. The past two episodes are motor serious. One couple had problems conceiving. Woman asked her mother to do her “husband” so that they could have a baby with their genes las season. Now mother is pregnant & woman who couldn’t get pregnant is carrying triplets. I don’t want to piss off Ace but the husband has said dry bad things about the SCOAMF & it is accurate & funny as hell. I cancelled all premium channels except Showtime because they have the best series. If you have Showtime watch this week’s episode because Kevin says the most accurate description of the SCOAMF.

And in Officer Friendly news:

Police officers in Hawthorne, California tasered a deaf man who was trying to tell them he had a disability by using sign language.

Jonathan Meister was loading boxes he left at a friends house into his car when cops who were told there may be a burglary at the house and arrived at the scene on February 13. The officers told Meister to stop loading the boxes but because he was deaf, Meister did not hear the police officers' commands.

Meister tried to use sign language to communicate with police and one of the officers mistook his hand motions for aggressive force.

The officers punched Meister and kicked him and also allegedly shot him twice with a taser. Another officer then gave Meister a 'drive stun' to his abdomen. The officers then allegedly beat Meister until he was unconscious reports rawstory.com.

Officers then took Meister to a hospital where he was charged with assaulting police officers. The charge was later dropped and now the officers are facing a lawsuit.

198 BEIJING — China’s military says its average soldier has grown taller and wider over the past two decades, leading to cramped tanks and other equipment problems. The official People’s Liberation Army Daily newspaper said Tuesday that a survey of 20,000 troops begun in 2009 showed them to be an average of 2 centimeters (about three-quarters of an inch) taller and 5 centimeters (about 2 inches) bigger around the waist. It said that was causing discomfort when soldiers tried to squeeze into tanks designed 30 years ago for troops of considerably smaller size. It said rifle barrels were also relatively short for the taller soldiers, leading to accuracy problems. It said adjustments would be made, with 28 body measurements taken into consideration when designing new firearms and other equipment. ??? I don't suppose North Korea is experiencing the same problems ha?

209 166 backhoe its unsettling, to say the least, to witness the process --while the citizenry embraces the forces of self destruction -- as if to save themselves from something worse? It's like a person who'd rather commit suicide than fight the good fight. We're all losers now. I heard an optimist's belief that given unity, Americans yet rally together. Last week Ace wrote that our nation's First Principles do NOT provide common ground in America. And I disagree, since the Constitution and Bill of Rights are the single matter that all Americans share in common -- regardless of degree of respect, and well noting the Marxist and Eugenics "progressives" who themselves usurped that term in order to crown themselves the New Tyrant Oligarchy through the old system of authoritarianism. Without a sure foundation, a collapse through faulty grounding will happen. "Given Unity" e pluribus unum what am I willing to share as one with others? Constitutional integrity that protects liberty, the sovereign fruits of self responsibility in the pursuit of happiness, all being equal under the law. ..."given unity" is the misnomer, and sadly 9/11/01 notes the passage of public trust from recollective into dust during each subsequent year's Washington follies. 228 An Iranian hack of the Navy's largest unclassified computer network reportedly took more than four months to resolve, raising concern among some lawmakers about security gaps exposed by the attack. The Wall Street Journal, citing current and former U.S. officials, reported late Monday that the cyberattack targeted the Navy Marine Corps Internet, which is used by the Navy Department to host websites, store nonsensitive information, and handle voice, video, and data communications. The paper reported that the hackers were able to remain in the network until this past November. That contradicts what officials told the Journal when the attack was first publicly reported this past September. At the time, officials told the paper that the intruders had been removed. "It was a real big deal," a senior U.S. official told the Journal. "It was a significant penetration that showed a weakness in the system." The quoted official said that the Iranians were able to conduct surveillance and compromise communications over the unclassified computer networks of the Navy and Marine Corps. However, another senior official told the Journal that no e-mail accounts were hacked and no data was stolen. There is also no evidence that Iran was able to penetrate classified U.S. computer networks. The cyberattack is one of the one of the most serious infiltrations of government computer systems by the Iranians. The Journal reported that U.S. defense officials were surprised at the skill of the hackers, who were able to enter the network through a security gap in a public-facing website. The military response to the hack was over seen by Vice Adm. Mike Rogers, President Obama's pick to be the next head the National Security Agency. Congressional aides told the Journal that Rogers would likely face questions on plans to fix security issues that have surfaced as a result of the attack. A confirmation hearing for Rogers has not yet been scheduled. Well if all they got into was NKO, I hope they did all my GMTs for me.

239 Some news, from Merryland (It's a good time to be part of the folks that arrived *after* go-live...lol): Analysis: Health exchange problems could be more serious and expensive than reported "The decision over what to do about HIX will have a significant effect on the exchangeÂ’s cost of operations. If HIX is fixed, the state would keep the advantages of running its own exchange while committing to bear the costs of fixing or replacing HIX, finishing its functionality and paying significant operations and maintenance including software licensure for proprietary software built into HIX. If HIX were abandoned, the effects generally would be the opposite. The governor may want to consider procuring an independent study to objectively quantify taxpayersÂ’ cost of his options in lieu of making a decision that may be too influenced by the prevailing political winds." It's being pushed by the Gay/Lesbian/Transgendered/Questioning director of George Mason University. And it's being pushed precisely so a gay man can live with a female roommate and avoid "feeling uncomfortable." It has to be pitched as impacting everyone to avoid the perception of "special rights for gay men" even though that's exactly what it is. Lesbians aren't going to go live with men. The percentage of straight women wanting to live with straight men will be vanishingly small. Nothing kills sexual desire quite like cohabitation. No, this is an idea that is being floated to benefit just one small subgroup and protect their fragile feelings from the big bad homophobic world. Apparently it's expected that all of society must rearrange itself. No, the gay man can't just buck up and deal with the situation. Of course, if the situation were reversed and a straight expressed discomfort over rooming with a gay man, the response would be for the straight guy to just deal with his issues - undoubtedly helped by mandatory sensitivity training. Colleges are fucked. As an aside - if you have a kid who attends George Mason university, you have tuition dollars being collected to pay someone to think up stupid shit like this.

I'm staff at a local college and they are doing the same thing here but even taking it a step further.  If you want the discounted rate you have to submit to a wellness check where your weight, BP, BMI, cholesterol, etc are recorded and compared to annually when benefits are able to be renewed.   You then also have to submit proof of a annual exam with full work done. It's under the guise of 'wellness program' and those who sign up get a discount rate, but I find it a little too Orwellian for my tastes.  I refused to sign up and took the hit

I am currently doing a lifestyle change by gradually losing weight and cutting back on the smoking by choice and not by coercion.  The former is motivation to do so, the latter is demotivation to do so

Here in Sydney it's been warm too but we do get humid days- and we've had a bit of rain the past couple of days for which my very thirsty frangipani  is very grateful!

As for humidity - I've been to Singapore and Vietnam = humid enough to walk around as if I'd gone swimming in my clothes.... but the very worst most awful humidity I have EVER experienced was in Washington DC

I was thinking of checking my travel insurance regarding transport of a dead body back to OZ - me,  killed by the weather!

269 Saw an interesting guest on Greta the other evening, talking about global warming. He said that even if one accepts the AGW crowd's definition of "warming" that no one presently in high school or younger has ever seen any warming, and that everyone of middle school age or younger has only seen global cooling. All these so-called facts are open for debate, but what isn't debatable is that even by al-Gore's "standards" AGW is an issue from nearly a generation ago, if it was even ever an issue.

270 The problem I see is that they put that ad up on the home page for Amazon and it takes up half the page with AGW propaganda. Making the ad itself propaganda. Posted by: Vic at February 18, 2014 07:33 AM (T2V/1) It's one of Amazon's published authors. Why should they? One expects them to do so.

271 259. on reptilians, the first time I saw Putin's face he looked the serpent. rereading, W nailed it. AFTER dialogue, the acknowledgement towards mutual respect. "Trustworthy" as to take Putin at his word, do not cross Putin and expect no fall out. http://tinyurl.com/npakbul Bush and Putin: Best of friends [snark] Mr Bush described their meeting as straightforward and effective. He said it was time to move beyond Cold War attitudes, away from mutually assured destruction towards mutually earned respect. "I looked the man in the eye. I found him to be very straight forward and trustworthy and we had a very good dialogue. "I was able to get a sense of his soul. "He's a man deeply committed to his country and the best interests of his country and I appreciate very much the frank dialogue and that's the beginning of a very constructive relationship," Mr Bush said. Echoing Mr Bush he called the United States Russia's partner. Warm words, unthinkable just a few months ago. The Russian leader said both their countries bore a special responsibility for maintaining world peace and security. However he warned that any unilateral action would make that process more complicated - a signal that difficult discussions on Nato and the US missile defence system still lie ahead. = http://tinyurl.com/d65sleu In contrast, eight times and counting, Obama bows first thing, establishing US subservience prior to international negotiations. Hillary "resets" mistranslation first thing. Overcharge, the obvious failures to communicate.

274 Nothing says American freedom like some fourth wife in a mosque marriage being told to see the mufti for a fatwa on how her husband can beat her if she disobeys. Every time someone says it's crazy to think some Islamic practice could threaten us, it's already happened.
