National Journal's Josh Kraushaar has a must-read piece on Democrats' Obamacare denial.
New Zealand's prime minister refutes claim that he his a shape-shifting reptilian space alien ushering humanity towards enslavement. But, isn't that exactly what a shape-shifting reptilian space alien would say?
Eugene Volokh is writing (republishing an article, actually) about Islamic law in American courts. I've read his article; definitely worth a look.

Good Morning Morons. Today is Tuesday, February 18, 2014. On this day in 2001 Dale Earnhardt died in a crash at Daytona. And one year ago today the press was mad at Ocrapweasel for sneaking off and playing golf with Tiger Woods. I predicted they would get over real quick and go back to mouthing his parts. I was right.

Five-year anniversary of ObamaÂ’s stimulus renews partisan fight over jobs, economy[b/]
The five-year anniversary Monday of President ObamaÂ’s stimulus package has prompted Democrats and Republicans to spar again over the economy and whether the roughly $800 billion in spending created the number of jobs promised.
The Democrats spew forth on lie after another. The counter argument from Republicans is that it didn't work and just jacked up spending.
The real argument is they jacked up spending to a $1T deficit and it was mainly directed towards socialist projects for inner cities (corruption for cronies program) with another healthy slice going to green cronies. Small amounts went to rebuilding government buildings. The touted highway building was a lie. All they did was stick signs up at highways under construction. At least FDR's wasteful big spending did go to useful infrastructure.
And guess what? We are STILL running $1T deficits. Does that mean we are getting stimulus every year?
So what did all this government spending get us? We are still mired in the second great depression that the lying Democrats said we avoided with unemployment even higher than what they had then (30%+) and we also have runaway inflation in commodities, especially food.
And that is because Keynesian economics simply do NOT work. They epitomize the broken window principle, as all government spending does.
I know, this post looks like a Monty Doom article.

The stupid, it burns:
An Oregon Democrat says he wants to create federal legislation that would set up each child born in the United States with a savings account as part of a major revamping of the countryÂ’s tax code.
What in the Hell does yet another government cheese program have to do with the frigging tax code?
And the thought of this turd and Chuckcheasehead rewriting the tax code gives me the willies.

I find that ruling itself to be unconstitutional. The use of ANY religious "law" in court, or any other government organization, is forbidden by the Constitution..
And the fact of the matter is Islamic religion is the only one I know that dictates law in the countries it invades. We gave that up in the 1700s

No story today, since I still have tears in my eyes and am running on about an hour of sleep. Mrs P and I went to Avery Fisher Hall in NYC last night to see a concert performance of the musical Titanic, with almost all the original cast reaasembled from its 1997 premiere.

Regarding #32.
What recourse do citizens generally have for City Police departments?
I know a county Sheriff can be replaced in elections, but what elected official controls the PD? Is the Police Commisioner a real elected office, or is it all up to the Mayor or City Council?

In the towns I am familiar with usually the head police officer reports to the Mayor. County police report to the county Sheriff who then reports to the council, usually through one member who keeps the rest of the council up to date.
Mayors and county sheriffs and councils are elected. And the local police and sheriff's department here in the South, other than a few isolated instances, have been vastly cleaned up from the old days.

I don't know about you, but MY Amazon front page is my account. I don't really see a problem with this sort of thing, it appears that Amazon is promoting an author, and inviting other authors to request the same.
My only objection is not with Amazon, it's the fact that charlatans these days are using pseudoscience to promote their pet projects, and generally get away with it because people who could and would challenge him see him as a fellow traveler, and the rest of us haven't delved far enough into the topic to be able to refute him.

So in essence if the problem children seem to come from the city/town PD, the only election that can change them is for mayor or city council?
While our town PD isn't going full retard or Judge Dredd wanabe, our PD has been wasting a lot of money on fancy new SUVs where a more economical street car or cruiser would do just as well or better.
Looking for the best lever I can have come voting season to influence (or at least try) this shit.

Vandalism stopped being a crime when committed by "artists" about forty years ago (unless you spray paint the building Shepard Fairey owns *spit*). But the collector will be financially OK; this is a heavily-insured traveling exhibition, I saw it when it came to Indy last year.
And the perp destroyed an Ai Weiwei vase...Weiwei became internationally famous after being photographed destroying Ming vases (these are the photos mentioned in the story), to mixed reactions. I had to conclude since Weiwei purchased the vases, they were his to do whatever he liked, even if it was stupid and senseless. I'm curious what he thinks about his work getting destroyed. Shit, this was probably a plan to finagle and introduction, and "protesting" the gallery just sounds good for the news.

But the warning was either missed or ignored by Labor.
That allegedly allowed the data falsification to go on for years.
As IÂ’ve been telling you, the falsification is now the subject of a number of investigations, including one by the House Oversight Committee and CongressÂ’ Joint Economic Committee.
Also investigating is the Office of the Inspector General at the Commerce Department, which is in charge of Census. And IÂ’m hearing that the US Attorney in the Philadelphia region is also poking around the matter, although a spokeswoman wouldnÂ’t confirm that.
And, of course, I am also investigating. IÂ’m waiting for the Commerce Department to comply with my Freedom of Information Act request for e-mails and text messages between people in the Philadelphia Census office.
So far, all IÂ’ve heard is that the FOIA request is being worked on.
At the core of all these investigations is solid evidence that at least one surveyor — a guy named Julius Buckmon, working out of the Philadelphia Census office but polling in Washington, DC — submitted fake household surveys that were used in compiling the Labor Department’s unemployment rate.
Because of the scientific nature of the Labor Department survey, BuckmonÂ’s actions alone would have affected the responses of some 500,000 households.
But as I’ve been reporting, the scam was allegedly much larger than that and included other surveyors (or enumerators as they are called) over many years. And supervisors at least two levels up are said to have known about — and covered up — the scandal.
So far Congress has mainly been asking questions about the Buckmon incident and his supervisorsÂ’ actions. But the inquiry is likely to get broader, especially if correspondences between people in the Philadelphia office show a conspiracy to make the unemployment rate look better than it really was.
The brass ring for the Republicans who control the Oversight Committee, of course, would be if they find evidence that the national unemployment rate was rigged right before the 2012 presidential election.
I previously reported that there were whispers inside the Philadelphia office that people high up wanted the jobless rate to come down before President Obama was up for re-election. And, in fact, it did drop sharply two months before the vote.
Up until now, the focus has mainly been on the Census Bureau, which, besides the unemployment rate, conducts surveys for a lot of government agencies and private concerns.
The Labor Department and its Bureau of Labor Statistics division have been largely left out of this controversy and viewed simply as the victims of the Census BureauÂ’s deceit.
My next few paragraphs may change that.
In late August 2011, a manila envelope containing evidence of falsified data was sent to Keith Hall, who was then in charge of the BLS. “The Philadelphia Regional office [of Census] … engaged in a cover-up after it was reported that members of its staff falsified data in an effort to meet goals,” said the anonymous letter, a copy of which I have in front of me.
The letter identified the two supervisors who arranged the cover-up.
“In an effort to satisfy the sponsor [the BLS] … the numbers were literally made up,” said the tipster.
The BLS never acted on the letter. And thatÂ’s ironic because Hall, who was pushed out of the Labor Department in 2012, had been skeptical of the truthfulness of the BLSÂ’s jobless numbers.
I interviewed Hall last July for this column, and he said at the time that the unemployment rate was “misleadingly low.” However, back then Hall — who is now at George Mason University — was attributing the misrepresentation to statistical anomalies in the way the unemployment rate is calculated and not outright fraud.
I asked Hall Monday if he remembers receiving an envelope containing evidence that data was being falsified. He didn’t. “I would have remembered that,” he said.
Did the envelope get lost in the mail? The tipster had a tracer on it through the Postal Service. Did someone else read the note, which, admittedly, was a little confusing, and choose to ignore it?
Hall said he would have investigated had he known. “We couldn’t not take that seriously and look into it,” he said.
So what does this all mean?
My readers already know that the nation’s jobless rate is a screwed-up and worthless indicator. By definition, it declines — as it now is doing — when workers get discouraged and stop looking for jobs.
And it will rise if the day ever comes when jobs are plentiful and people start looking again.
On top of that, we now know that the unemployment rate can be rigged by a very few cheats — aided by the inability of bureaucrats to root out fraud even when it’s laid in front of them in a letter.
I find the fact that the Federal Reserve says it still makes policy based on the unemployment rate mind-boggling.

In October, there's going to be yet another a major change in the health industry as coders transition to the new ICD-10 system for diagnostic record keeping and insurance billing. Think of it as Y2K for the white coat set.
Interesting article about the upcoming transition over at the WaPo, including descriptions of the system's seemingly bizarre specificity:
"There are different numbers for getting struck or bitten by a turkey (W61.42 or W61.43). There are codes for injuries caused by squirrels (W53.21) and getting hit by a motor vehicle while riding an animal (V80.919), spending too much time in a deep-freeze refrigerator (W93.2) and a large toe that has gone unexpectedly missing (Z89.419)."

Its not just the compounding mistake. None of those government cheese program ever work. And they don't work for two reasons (1) People take the cheese and sit on their ass and (2) The government takes money out of the economy, hacks off a chunk of it for bureaucrats, and then puts a small amount back in the economy for the FSA.

106: "I am from GA and my family is still there. They disowned Atlanta long ago, and the added Macon to the list a few years ago."
When I was stationed at Warner Robins, people avoided Macon like the plague it was.
Anyone with two nickels to their name fled Macon if they had any means to do so. I bought a house in Perry. At the time it was idealic. Safe, clean, and a great place to raise kids.
That shit was not allowed to continue as the dirtbags that drove decent folk out of Macon follwed them to Perry/Warner Robins since the only concentrated money in the area is around Robins AFB as the primary employer for all of middle GA.
Thankfully I moved home to Texas upon retirement. But I'm stuck with a house in Perry that I can't sell because I'm perpetually underwater on the mortgage due to dwindling property values.

Oh Jeebus. I was gulled into watching 'Lympics coverage last night, and NBC was showing clips from a "documentary" they have made about Harding and Nancy Kerrigan, complete with fresh interviews and -- no doubt -- new, in-depth research.
They have piled enough peripheral human-interest "up close and personal" bullshit into the broadcasts to totally wipe out whatever atoms of respect I had left for the Olympics.
Any contest decided by a panel of unseen "judges" may be athletic, but is NOT a sport. Moreover, anyone who spends every waking moment training for the games is no amateur. Jim Thorpe would see the various countries' hockey teams and laugh his de-medaled ass off.
Now that NASCAR has become a rules-mad, image-driven parody of its former self, ain't much to watch on the teevee, sports-wise.

My old hometown is completely controlled by a Democrat clique of a few wealthy turds. The city school system which used to be the second highest rated school in the State has degenerated into a den of incompetence and inner city violence. Everyone who actually works for a living has moved out into the county. It is now exactly opposite of what it was in the 50s and 60s.

And in statute of limitations news:
A woman in South Carolina was arrested and jailed overnight over a nine-year overdue video rental.
Kayla Finley, 27, had visited a police station to report a crime, only to find a warrant for her arrest had been issued in 2005, when she was 18. Ms Finley had rented a VHS copy of romantic comedy Monster In Law, starring Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda.
Police said several warning letters about the overdue video were sent to Ms Finley, but she had since changed address. She was charged with "failure to return rented video cassette" and will appear in court at a later date.

And in Officer Friendly news:
Police officers in Hawthorne, California tasered a deaf man who was trying to tell them he had a disability by using sign language.
Jonathan Meister was loading boxes he left at a friends house into his car when cops who were told there may be a burglary at the house and arrived at the scene on February 13. The officers told Meister to stop loading the boxes but because he was deaf, Meister did not hear the police officers' commands.
Meister tried to use sign language to communicate with police and one of the officers mistook his hand motions for aggressive force.
The officers punched Meister and kicked him and also allegedly shot him twice with a taser. Another officer then gave Meister a 'drive stun' to his abdomen. The officers then allegedly beat Meister until he was unconscious reports rawstory.com.
Officers then took Meister to a hospital where he was charged with assaulting police officers. The charge was later dropped and now the officers are facing a lawsuit.

I'm staff at a local college and they are doing the same thing here but even taking it a step further. If you want the discounted rate you have to submit to a wellness check where your weight, BP, BMI, cholesterol, etc are recorded and compared to annually when benefits are able to be renewed. You then also have to submit proof of a annual exam with full work done. It's under the guise of 'wellness program' and those who sign up get a discount rate, but I find it a little too Orwellian for my tastes. I refused to sign up and took the hit
I am currently doing a lifestyle change by gradually losing weight and cutting back on the smoking by choice and not by coercion. The former is motivation to do so, the latter is demotivation to do so

Here in Sydney it's been warm too but we do get humid days- and we've had a bit of rain the past couple of days for which my very thirsty frangipani is very grateful!
