Happy Wednesday.

BuzzFeed's Chris Geidner reviews the Hobby Lobby argument at SCOTUS. The transcript for that is here, btw (PDF). And Sen. Mike Lee makes predictions on the Hugh Hewitt show, which is being guest hosted by Townhall's Guy Benson this week.

Internet millionaire and pirate Kim Dotcom bought a rare autographed version of Mein Kampf, says it's because he loves the Call of Duty games.

Here's the confession from Boston Bomber pal Ibragim Todashev. Well, at least the portion he got to before allegedly attacking an FBI agent who then shot him dead.

20 How about this stupid lead from WaTi on the Supreme Court Obamacide case.

The Supreme Court searched Tuesday for ways to let women get birth control without the government forcing their employers to cover the cost, as justices tried to balance business ownersÂ’ religious rights against allowing religious objections to a broad range of public policy issues.

Didn't they already have this BEFORE Obamacide?  It's called a visit to your local drug store where prophylactics are easily available and cheap.

27 Morning!

An analysis of what may have happened to the Malaysia Airlines flight by another pilot.

http://tinyurl.com/p92wnej

This explanation (applying Accam's Razor) makes the most sense to me.

There has been a lot of speculation about Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. Terrorism, hijacking, meteors. I cannot believe the analysis on CNN; itÂ’s almost disturbing. I tend to look for a simpler explanation, and I find it with the 13,000-foot runway at Pulau Langkawi.

The left turn is the key here. Zaharie Ahmad Shah1 was a very experienced senior captain with 18,000 hours of flight time. We old pilots were drilled to know what is the closest airport of safe harbor while in cruise. Airports behind us, airports abeam us, and airports ahead of us. They’re always in our head. Always. If something happens, you don’t want to be thinking about what are you going to do–you already know what you are going to do. When I saw that left turn with a direct heading, I instinctively knew he was heading for an airport. He was taking a direct route to Palau Langkawi, a 13,000-foot airstrip with an approach over water and no obstacles.

31 I shared last night that Romans 8;37-39 is probably my most favorite passage in Scripture: We have a lot of things we dread in life, Some of them include war, betrayal, famine, abandonment, poverty death and corrupt political leadership. In his letter to the Romans Paul presents a similar list. However, what Paul addressed as the most serious of all was the idea that tumultuous times could build a wall between God and those who believed in him. Turmoil could cut people off from God's love. Jesus' followers in Rome were facing difficult times. Paul offers them comfort, encouragement and hope by delivering worst case scenarios followed by the best news he could deliver. No human hardship could prevent God's love from reaching people. When Paul says "I am persuaded" he means "I'm am absolutely convinced". That doesn't mean we'll always end our financial year in the black or that we won't get a fatal disease. It means that God is with us whatever happens and will help us be victorious. When we have hard times it's not our intelligence, our talent or perseverance that assures our victory. It is that God loves us and will help us arise through whatever has us down. I wish I could find a better version of this hymn written by Jeremiah Rankin but the words are very nice and relate to this passage from Romans: "More than Conquerors" http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/m/o/morethan.htm Rankin attended Middlebury College, Vermont, and Andover Theological Seminary. After ordination in 1855, he pastored at churches in New York; St. Albans, Vermont; Charlestown, Massachusetts; at the First Congregational Church in Washington, DC, for 15 years; and at the Valley Congregational Church, Orange, New Jersey.

38 This one you mustn't miss. Obama's "wish" projecting NYC gone in a flash makes court cases like the following all the worse -- follow the mad cow link for the juice. Some highlight quotes to mull: Faith-based CIA Initiative network scam... A CIA-connected aviation charter company called Presidential Aviation listed your airport (grass land) as home base for nine very expensive airplanes, and you can’t, or won’t, tell me why.” "The Vanishing: Christian Cult’s Airport Disappears" By Daniel Hopsicker, Mad Cow Morning News, investigative reporting into drug trafficking, 9/11, and state-sponsored crime When something as large as an airport dematerializes overnight, my first response is to wonder, “Was it something I said?” http://www.madcowprod.com/2014/03/21/the-vanishing/ “Law enforcement always follows the drugs, because that leads to drug thugs no one cares about,” according to one former Federal official familiar with the case. “Following the money, which is much more effective, is discouraged, because it leads to the suits—bankers, politicians, law enforcement types—people with social and political clout.” The Vanishing of Bowens Mill Christian Center Airport. (Fitzgerald, Georgia) [During prosecution trial of sociopathic conman Douglas McClain Sr, posing as Christian Minister for the cult, "The Move." -- sounds trigger-familiar: get moving; moveondotcom -- FYI co-founder and long-time Move cult headman Carrell C.E. (Buddy) Cobb.] Presidential Airways flew extraordinary renditions, one of which changed European attitudes about the way the U.S. was conducting the war on terror [Bush]. While pursing links between the cult and the CIA-connected aviation charter company, our probe hit an unexpected snag: the airport disappeared from view three days ago. Taking its place, along with the Bowens Mill Christian Center Airport’s FAA airport code, 74GA, is an airport located 180 miles away, Johnson Airport in Lutherville, Georgia. The memory of the airport website lingers on, however, in Google’s cache, complete with its newsworthy features intact. This is probably not what whoever hastily “disappeared” the airport’s web presence had in mind. Cooler heads would have informed that the removal would be seen to be a desperate move designed to forestall further investigation. Instead, the move has advertised the fact the someone at the airport has something to hide. This, of course, invites added scrutiny. “The church never owned any planes,” Cobb replied. “Local churches registered the planes. It was like a network, but there was no official organization.” Each minister owned his own plane, he asserted. There was no central authority, or corporation, involved. “We don’t have any membership. Every group is autonomous,” he continued. “They’re only affiliated through like beliefs, and through their understanding of the Word. They are all independent ministries.” Question: “So, um, in the early ‘80’s, how did your group end up with colonies in Colombia, Peru, and Guatemala?” Cobb matched my stammer with one of his own. “That was due, to, ah, the fact that we had a minister who felt the world economic system wasn’t in such great shape,” he replied, without much conviction. “Sam Fife had an understanding that there could be a possible collapse of the economic system of the world,” he continued, recovering quickly. “Same as what everyone’s taking about today, you know? He said we had only five years. And for him, he did have five years… till he crashed a plane down in Guatemala.”

58 Regarding the Mahan incident, I got a look-see at the ship's initial report (unit SITREP) yesterday. they guy came on the ship, got into an altercation (he shouldn't have been there, so the Quarterdeck stopped him). He got into a scuffle with the Petty Officer of the Watch (one of three at the q-deck and the only one armed) and forcibly removed the (loaded, thanks to 9-11) weapon. He then turned and shot and killed the Chief of the Guard - the senior pier security watch, who apparently followed him to the ship. The ship's Topside Rover, armed with an M4, then shot the intruder. I can only assume, after getting on the base without a problem, he forced or bluffed his way past the pier security watch, who then followed him to the ship. Repair contractors are common in that part of the base - the next pier over is a sort of extension area for shipyard work. The USNS Comfort is also at the same pier as MAHAN, and MSC (Military Sealift Command - civilian mariners employed by the Navy) has different rules than the rest of the Navy - enough to cause confusion with Sailors about what folks would be out and about at 11 PM. When they saw him go on the MAHAN instead, the GoG then probably went after to apprehend him, and got shot dead for his trouble.

Up in my neck of the woods is – or, rather, was – a wonderful old used bookstore called Drake Farm Books.  It was located in a 200-year old barn, with every inch of both floors and all the stalls crammed floor to ceiling with books.  You can just imagine the musty smell.  IÂ’ve bought a lot from them over the years, but the owner finally called it quits and is having a liquidation sale at $5 a box of books.  So not only did I manage to pick up a full edition of the Encyclopædia Britannica for $15, I also bought a lot of movie books.  One is The Moguls by Norman Zierold, a 1969 study of men like Louis B. Mayer, Darryl Zanuck, David O. Selznick and others.

HereÂ’s a Mayer story from that book:

It seems that the actress Tallulah Bankhead ended up being seen by Mayer after making what she called “six rancid pictures” for Paramount.  In their meeting, Mayer told her that while MGM could only offer her a rather reduced salary, they would be able to build up her career; would she consider taking over from Jean Harlow in Red Dust?

When Bankhead asked, why that role, Mayer explained that he thought they would have to replace her; you see, her husband, Paul Bern, had just committed suicide and the studio felt that HarlowÂ’s appearance on screen so soon after the tragedy would be an insult to the public.  Bankhead didnÂ’t think much of this explanation and made a few cutting remarks about the less savory MGM stars and their loose morals, but Mayer, by now caught up in his own oratory, ignored her.

He had been one of the first on the scene after BernÂ’s death, he told Bankhead.  In order better to act out his discovery of the body, he began to circle around the desk.  Wanting to get out of the office, Bankhead deliberately misunderstood his motive and cooed, “None of that, now, Mr. Mayer.  Stay on your side of the desk.  I can visualize the scene.”

Needless to say, Tallulah was on the first train back to New York.

HereÂ’s a young Bankhead:

68 The Obamacare subsidies case is interesting, especially since I am sort of related by marriage to the swing judge. Hard to say how we'll decide. I don't think he's particularly conservative, but he does object to courts rewriting laws, which is clearly the case here if the court decides in the administration's favor.

I can't conjecture to motive why he decided on the MAHAN that day and at that time. It could be anything from terrorism to disgruntled ex-sailor. I'm leaning to the latter - he may have been a former crewmember with a grudge about getting kicked out of the Navy from the ship.

Posted by: Chi-Town Jerry at March 26, 2014 07:23 AM (b/lt+) He's not the first one to put forward this theory. There's one problem. The course they flew after they turned doesn't point at that airport. They would have had to cross Thai airspace to get to it. There's no indication that they did. The Malaysian military's radar data showed the plane staying just below the border. There is another airport with a similar length strip that lies closer to the heading they were on. However, that heading is wrong if the plane went down where they think it did. That heading is more to the SW while the supposed crash site is more to the south.. There may be a logical explanation for how the plane could fly on autopilot but get that far off its heading. I just haven't heard it yet.

135 101 I love this country but am ashamed of what it has become. I just don't know what to do about it. Probably nothing can be done at this point. I hear you man. I'm at the point where I love my country but hate the majority of the people in it. The users, the takers, the leeches, the low-info morons, the perennially outraged, the petty, the mean, the lazy idiots with no sense of history who willingly trade their freedom and ours for slavery to the Feds. I don't know if our beloved Republic can survive. But we'll continue to root for her to survive and thrive. It's all we can do.

Yes, well, I should say (do I have to add "in fairness?") that Levin is indeed something of an anomaly among today's "conservatives." He does actually "talk the walk" as Dubya famously said.

It's unfortunate that he represents a very small minority on the political right.

149 From American hand gunner. crowded range. The small bays were all taken and we had to use the long line; any-centerfire, targets from 15 to 100 yards; mixed clots of sunshine shooters. As more shooters arrived, we couldn’t help noticing they avoided the half-dozen “illustrated kids” one position away from us. You’ve seen ’em: 20’s to maybe early 30’s, lavishly tattooed, some multicolor punked-up hair, a smattering of facial hardware, dressed kinda like Ukrainian circus performers dragged through an Army-Navy surplus store. Neo-Retro-Metro-Post-Apocalyptic Industrial? Okay; I exaggerate a little, but you know what I mean, right? And along with the leathers and tats, also wearing a little attitude, like “We see you lookin’ at us like freaks. What’s your problem?” I ignored ’em. Obey range rules, don’t muzzle-sweep me and we’re all good. But Uncle John was watchin’ ’em. Four guys, two girls, taking turns with a worn-shiny AK, a couple of Euro-pistols and an old Smith Model 10; pawn-shop poppers, and having problems with one pistol http://americanhandgunner.com/unlikely-allies/ not so alone are we maybe?

151 "Good luck VIA!"

Thank you.

We live in a very small area for voting. And I am familiar with our demographics.

Last election, I did not recognize a single Official in the Polling Place.

And every one of them radiated a serenity that was out of place.

Two elections a go, my wife encountered a person who was in the Polling Place after closing, who represented herself as a registered staff member for a candidate. But, she had none of the required paperwork to allow her to remain in the building after the Polls closed.

Ten minutes later, she was presenting herself as a credentialed member of the Press, with a right to be there.

The Election Officials were disinclined to get involved.

Next day I contacted the candidate myself to ask about her.
His response was that they didn't know about the requirement to register Staff.

So I e-mailed all of the info to him.

155 NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The makings of a meth house was shut down Tuesday by Sheriff's deputies during a "knock and talk" at a residence at 1819 Pioneer Trail just outside the city limits that also resulted in two arrests, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office reported. Arrested in the 9:40 a.m. incident were Dawn Brooks, 40, and Michael Johnsen, 41, on charges of possession of illicit chemicals. Brooks was additionally charged with and battery on a law enforcement officer. Both were being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach on $3,000 and $1,500 bail, respectively. Deputies with the Eastside Narcotics Task Force knocked on the door and when Brooks answered, pushed away a deputy and slammed the door, Sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson said. Deputies then obtained a search warrant and entered the premesis where the materials for the makings of methanmphetamines were discovered, Davidson said, resulting in the arrests. Fuck her.

171 How's that minimum wage increase working out for you? Domo arigato Mr. Roboto. http://tinyurl.com/lv6dls4 President Obama’s proposal to increase the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10 per hour could make it worthwhile for employers to adopt emerging technologies to do the work of their low-wage workers. But can a robot really do a janitor’s job? Can software fully replace a fast-food worker? Economists have long considered these low-skilled, non-routine jobs as less vulnerable to technological replacement, but until now, quantitative estimates of a job’s vulnerability have been missing from the debate. Based on a 2013 paper by Carl Benedikt Frey and Michael A. Osborne of Oxford, occupations in the U.S. that pay at or near the minimum wage — that’s about one of every six workers in the U.S. — are much more susceptible to “computerization,” or as defined by the authors, “job automation by means of computer-controlled equipment.”

201 In other news, everyone did see that the March 31st deadline to enroll has now been extended right? I had a random thought this morning about the whole let's just extend the deadlines forever vis a vis running the government like a university department. It is incredibly common for students to be given extensions on assignments Because Reasons. In fact, professors who insist that, no, really, that deadline I gave you is an actualfax deadline and your grade will be diminished if you miss it, are considered the bad guys, sadly often by the department head as well as the students. So, viewed from that perspective, the response of the TFG Administration is explicable. Why is everyone getting so bent out of shape? The students, I mean citizens, had a really rough couple of weeks and their roommate got triggered by something on Arrow and they had to have an intervention and then they had to go home because it wasn't a safe space in the dorm room/apartment and they weren't in any kind of mental place to be able to process the assignment. Of course they should get more time. What are you, a monster?

If Jeb Bush is the Repub presidential candidate I'm not voting for him. I've had it with the Bush family. Posted by: Captain Hate at March 26, 2014 08:45 AM (qh77P) The thing of it is, the Justices KNOW his Obamacare ruling is a joke - Sotomayor needled him about it yesterday: Mr. Clement: Exactly, which is, by the way, why comparing the $2,000 penalty to the cost of the health care is a false – it’s a false comparison. Justice Sotomayor: It’s not called a penalty. It’s called a tax. Justice Roberts: She’s right about that. (Laughter.) on.wsj.com/1p2wFQX

204 VIA, didn't you also say that you filled out that MD State firearms collector application. The guys at Continental told me that I should become one. Did it get approved and am I too late to become a collector thanks to that mental midget O'Malley?

213 and their roommate got triggered by something on Arrow and they had to have an intervention and then they had to go home because it wasn't a safe space in the dorm room/apartment and they weren't in any kind of mental place to be able to process the assignment.

I get a trigger every time I watch Arrow.  Well, Felicity Smoak.  And I can't do anything for at least a good twenty minutes afterwards.

Took eleven days from the time I dropped the application in the mailbox, till I received the approval from Maryland State Police.

Although there is no direct reference to it anywhere, I understand that you MUST own at least one regulated weapon prior to being granted collector status.
So....Bottom line was that it's easy as shit to get, once you already legally own something that required "Pinks"

So she played the Black Widow for a double episode of the original TV Batman series, her last broadcast performance. As she enjoyed dry wit, what lines might she have scripted for characters juxtaposed in the Scandi youtube PistolShrimps "Batman"? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2ghVpNCVe4

Glad to see the Boss stepping up to the plate on this one.

But to be honest, Platinum IMHO is worth every penny of the full price.

And if you consider the cost to produce the Decoder Ring. it's damn near a loss leader.
