A little news from around teh Twitters ...

First up, the secondmost disturbing event at the Boston Marathon memorial yesterday (short video at the embedded link):

More: Man in custody following bomb scare at Boston Marathon finish line

What could top it, you ask?

Tell that to little Jane Richard, who lost a brother and a leg. What a jackass.

And while we're on the jackass beat, Mike Bloomberg proves out that C.S. Lewis quote about the consciences of people who torment you for your own good ...

And the Troll of the Day Award goes to .... Josh Romney:

Well done.

Morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes.  HereÂ’s another Louis B. Mayer story:

Mayer was either loved or hated; there was no in between.  One of those who hated him was the actress Aileen Pringle, who called him “a swine, an opportunist, a sentimentalist.”

At one point, Pringle once recalled, she had been assigned to a picture she didnÂ’t want to do.  So she went to MayerÂ’s office and, in a very professional, business-like manner, told him what was on her mind.

Mayer gave Pringle a look.  “You know, Aileen, I want to tell you that the other girls come in here and they put their head on my shoulder and they say, ‘Oh, Mr. Mayer, please donÂ’t make me do that picture,Â’ or whatever it is.  ItÂ’s difficult for me to say no to them.  You come in and start talking and telling me what you want, just like a man.

“And you know,” he finished, a steely glint in his eye, “it’s very easy for me to say no to you.”

HereÂ’s Pringle in 1924s True As Steel:

On the Bundys:

. . .And their way of life is one that, frankly, is on the outs. They donÂ’t develop apps. They donÂ’t ask for food stamps. It probably has never occurred to them to bribe a politician. They donÂ’t subsist by virtue of government subsidies or regulations that hamstring competitors. They arenÂ’t illegal immigrants. They have never even gone to law school. 34 See, THIS is my problem with Romney - he constantly panders. First of all, if I were worth $300 million I sure as hell would NOT stand in line at the post office to mail my tax return - I would have people for that. Secondly, I am sure Romney's tax return would fill a box and is filed by his CPA Firm, not him personally. Thirdly, the first two reasons mean this is a 100% photo-op pander shot. This is the problem people have with Romney - he seems insincere and manufactured.

39 Good morning, I work in Prudential Tower in Boston & dreaded driving there yesterday. I called my boss to tell him my brother is in the hospital again & he told me a doctor was supposed to call me Monday, but no one did. I don't work Wednesdays & told him I was staying home yesterday & would be in today instead. He wasn't thrilled, but what difference does it really make? Hospital & rehab always call home number no matter how many times I have asked them to change it to cell phone. I had a message Monday morning from ER woman, but I didn't call back because I got home after 11 Monday night. They sent email that Boylston Street would be closed to cars for memorial. Mt brother was having extreme difficulty breathing Monday & has double pneumonia again. It's got to kill him one of these days. It's like clockwork, a few days after they stop antibiotics from last bout of it, he gets it again! He called me late yesterday & said he thought he was going to die Monday. This has been going on since March 30 of last year.

Which is why I was all in on an "anybody but Romney" vote in the primaries in 2012.  He's a good person and would've made an ok President (and definitely superior to the Indonesian) but he's an awkward campaigner and comes off much worse than he deserves, especially when he's on the attack which he does in the twattiest manner possible.  Goldwater was an outstanding conservative but not a good campaigner.  Reagan was a great campaigner.

Place dry gauze over the anal area between the buttocks. Additional protection includes a sanitary pad to avoid staining of the clothing. Bleeding usually occurs with bowel movements, vigorous wiping, and excessive activity.

Which brings up an interesting question - I take it as granted that most of us here are finished with the GOP.  That being the case, why would we vote during the midterms to give them the Senate and House to do nothing with?  If it takes a crushing defeat to shake them out of their torpor, then giving them congressional control ought to be the last thing on anyone's mind.

Posted by: J.J. Sefton at April 16, 2014 07:24 AM (CMkNk) Find the article and read it. It's not about a land grab like so many people want to believe. Yes, Bundy's family has been grazing the land for a very long time. However, Bundy paid the grazing fees every year until he decided to stop. That's when the problems began. You can argue until the cows come home about whether the land is federal or state. After the court rules against you more than once, you have to then concede that maybe, just maybe, you are in the wrong. Most people would back down and continue to pursue the situation through legal channels. Instead, he chose to draw a line in the stand then complain when the government took action. Yes, BLM overreacted in a big way, but that doesn't justify anything he did.

74 All along it was the BLM force deployed that bothered me most. They could just as easily have filed a lien against the Bundy ranch; the rifles and SWAT people were completely unnecessary. Another thing that bothers me, now that there is a searchlight on the BLM, is how much land the Feds own in Nevada and in the west generally. At our Article V convention I think we should limit tax free Federal land to 5% (totally arbitrary) of a states land mass, charge property taxes on anything the Feds own over that amount, and require the Feds to sell 1% of any unused land and buildings every year. And the BLM should make explicit that they manage local land for the benefit of the local economy, first and foremost.

MTF we should "charge property taxes on anything the Feds own over that amount," ahem, you want the private Federal Reserve "bank" to print out the money to "give" the Federal Government at interest via loan, or you want we the taxpayers to pay the property taxes on the federal lands? The problem with "there ought to be a law" is that generally, the problems would be better solved by dissolving the laws that were designed to create these problems of too much central government, too big to fail federal government that doesn't permit any peaceful dissent, let alone ranching.

Doctor called me that night to ask me what to do in case anything happened. I asked him what was best. He told me based on her other health issues it wouldn't be a good idea to try to resuscitate her & it might prolong her life but not in a good way. I signed DNR. She had UTI & I diagnosed broken hip & was sent back to nursing home & once I rescued her from that hellhole & had her in good one, they asked me over the years what we or I wanted in case of ? I said absolutely no feeding tube & other things. I left hospitalization as open depending on circumstances & her health at the time. I Thank God that he took her while she still knew me & my older brother. I was with her the night before she passed & had asked for priest for Last Rites, he didn't make it that day. I was lying in bed with her, singing & saying all Catholic prayers I can remember. At one point she started making a noise, I thought she wanted water. When I looked at her she was trying to lift her head & kissed me 6 or 7 times & smiled. That was her good bye to me. I had told her that I think she was going home to God soon. NP had called & told me I was right & she didn't have much time left, a few days. I don't know why I didn't spend the night, but she passed next morning after she was given Last Rites.

They were not using the fees to improve the land or make it productive. Cattle ranching on this particular piece of land is productive. It creates jobs and pays taxes. It is no skin off of anyones nose that cliven bundy has stopped paying grazing fees. The fees he was paying were feeding leviathan and his own deatruction and not to improve this land.

102 Isn't breaking the law so you can ranch and provide food for your family and the country an act of love? What I'm stuck on is that Bundy is the last rancher in Clark County, NV. That doesn't pass the smell test, and any discussion of whether he should have paid the grazing fees or not has to be looked at in the context of what happened to all the other ranches. Also, if the BLM is all about 'show me the money', why are they trying to regulate Bundy out of business? Once Bundy closes down the ranch, then the BLM won't be collecting grazing fees from anybody in Clark County, so it's not really about the money. That's the red herring.

109 So, he just said "Fuck 'em". Not exactly. He held them to their contract obligations that they failed to meet. He petitioned attention to the problems to no avail. The ranchers were paying for the lands to be properly managed for grazing. The lands were not being maintained. So Bundy spent the money directly improving the range land to provide grazing because the Reid connected land management company from CHINA was promoting erosion, degradation by loss of fertile top soils without proper indigenous grass seed propagation. Pirate Reid, the big brother Federal Government and their exploitative Chinese cohorts are mad because THEY didn't get Bundy's money to squander on themselves as had been the case.

This is probably a silly question, but if the federal government owns most of the land in a state, how can the entire land mass be called a state? Why would a state consign so much of its territory to the federal government? How does this work with states rights and all that entails? If it's federal land then they get to issue rules and regulations whether capricious or not. The bureaucracy will roll on.

122 Bundy stopped paying the BLM thugs when the new grazing contract reduced the number of cattle he could graze to 150. That's below the break even threshold for him. The new contract supposedly also terminated the water rights his great-grandfather purchased in the 1880s. Here in the west, that's casus belli. 1. 1870 -Signed contract w/ Texas to graze cattle on TX land.

2. 1993 the feds decided they wanted the land but first they had to kill all the grazing rights that people had for generations. So the fed first stole the land from  NV using the stupid turtle as an excuse (common process now)and raised the grazing fees to a point where it would drive ranchers out of buisness.

3.  All the ranchers except Bundy folded.

I asked him why he tortured himself by staying, when he could just as easy buy a ticket back to Somalia, his land of milk and honey. His answer? He needed welfare to support his eight kids. I swear to god, eight kids. On welfare.

Trickle Down Authoritarianism: the case looks like our Federal Government is as well no thanks to our corrupt public officials. It isn't called organized crime for no reason. What Hoover was warned having happened in Chicago having taken over the entire County and having the State in tow, to do something before the crime organization took over nationally "was a long time ago".... The corruption was and is pervasive, tyrannical power not segregating boundaries between business and government and any Individualism let alone Inalienable Bill of Rights.

173 152. 156. FBI Visiting Gun Shops to Investigate “People talking about Big Government” By Brandon Turbeville, shtfplan.com April 15th, 2014 http://tinyurl.com/ns6zjzc ... While the narrative surrounding “counterterrorism” operations used to eviscerate civil liberties after 9/11 was initially based upon the threat of Muslim fundamentalists, that narrative has clearly shifted to a focus on gun owning, law-abiding American citizens – both those who are politically active and those who are blissfully ignorant of current events. For many, this shift of focus has been quite the surprise. Thus, when the Columbia, South Carolina gun shop in question was approached by an FBI counterterrorism agent on Monday, April 14, the individuals who spoke with him were somewhat alarmed to realize that the agent’s concern was not fundamentalist Muslims but Americans who promote small government. According to an individual who was present during the visit (this person will remain anonymous for obvious reasons), the agent pulled up in a regular vehicle in plain clothes and took a look around the shop as if he were considering a purchase before approaching the staff and announcing that he was with the FBI Counterterrorism unit. ... The suspicious purchases he mentioned, however, were completely normal transactions. This included, paying with cash, purchasing long guns, and other similarly innocuous behavior. However, what surprised the owners the most was his statement regarding what he was most interested in tracking. According to the witness, the agent stated, “If you see some Middle Eastern guy come in. You don’t have to be so worried about that. What we’re really looking for are people talking about being sovereign such as sovereign citizens or people talking about Big Government.” ... http://www.shtfplan.com/headline-news/

180 Grace and peace be with you. A blessed Holy Week Wednesday. A service that is traditionally held in high liturgical churches-Roman Catholic, Anglican/Episcopal and some Lutheran and Methodist churches is a service of Tenebrae (Shadows) in which there are Biblical readings and the lights are put out one by one to symbolize the death of Jesus Christ. The first time I went to one I didn't know there are a "surprise" at the end of the service which almost made me jump out of my seat. Those who have been to Tenebrae services know what the "surprise" is. :^) It's a very moving service. If you can get to one I recommend it as a powerful way to enrich your Holy Week devotions, and as communion is not offered during it, you don't have to be concerned about being in a service where you might not be able to take communion because you are a Christian but don't belong to the church you are attending. Pablo Casals-who was a master cellist, a conductor and a sometime composer- wrote music for a Tenebrae service. You can see part of it from Kings College of Cambridge University here and the lyrics are posted as well: http://wn.com/ovos_omnes

I've got to say Reid isn't just mentally ill - he's completely deranged.   Biden should be   shipped off to a   retirement community where   people will make sure he doesn't drool on himself and stop   him from saying boneheaded things.  But REID needs to be locked away in a padded room and separated from all human contact.  He should be fed his meals through a tube.

250 From 2007 on my blog.  A post titled What is Art?
http://annapuna.blogspot.com/2007/09/what-is-art.html

What pertains to the Rice Cocker of Boston -

To fall back on the defense of art is art shows that someone never thought of consequences and all they thought of was being edgy as if edgy is cool. Ah yes, edgy; swords have edges so the artist should really be prepared to be cut for artÂ’s sake. IsnÂ’t that another truism of art; that one has to suffer for oneÂ’s art? If you are not willing to suffer the consequences of producing protest art, then you should find another line of work.

294 caught up to my own #195. Glad to see the thoroughgoing dismantling by so many of Gotti's 'Bundy wasn't innocent' statement. Would almost like to collect them, as it tells so much about this situation. Which Harry Reid declares is not over, and I think this one time we can take him at his word. Can't believe there's so much snark about the Romney tweet. Even staged. which I question, it's a great and richly-deserved slap at the Searchlight Stalker. Let it just be that. Then we'll take on RINO Romney as he endorses fellow RINOs through the election year... alas... siiigh.

295 62 52 49 The Bundy situation is not quite so cut and dried as everyone would like it to be. Here's the cut and dry aspect: Illegal Aliens thumb their nose at federal sovereignty all the time and we are told it would be cruel to enforce the law. We are told they are hardworking family people. Isn't Bundy hardworking? Isn't he a family man? Why isn't this cruel? I have no sympathy for enforcing the rule of law selectively, particularly when all the enforcement is against people like me. BLM can go f*ck themselves. ----- It goes beyond the rule of law, IMO. It extends to what information is given out, what slant is put on the information, etc. as far as The Blaze is concerned-I quit giving them any credence since Beck endorsed McCain in the election where he ran for re-election.

Posted by: Chillin the most at April 16, 2014 05:31 AM (gxtMZ)

301 It's really touching how much faith you have in the courts sorting things out. A private citizen spends their time and money, either hiring a lawyer or fighting it on their own. The other side has high paid lawyers with a large staff and it costs them nothing. Time spent is just their workday. The judges in the courts are lawyers, that are buddies with the lawyers they see every day. They respect the government officials over any private citizen. How did that faith in the courts work out on Obamacare?

I met him at at the SLC airport in January of this year. He does not have assistants carrying his bags. He is a warm, happy, sincere, thoughtful, kind and humble gentleman, comfortable in his own skin and grateful for all he has. He is a good man. Of which I doubt I could say about many politicians in either party. It is our great loss he is not president today.

I totally loved the twitter by his son!

This is my last post as I spend way too much time here,. Will still lurk, I am sure. Blessings to you all. xoxo

304 re: Romney standing in line: Oh. Come. ON! He pays quarterlies. His accountants file electronically for the fedz, likely for the state. Whoinhell with *any* organizational skillz *of any kind* has to stand in a P.O. line on the f'n 15th?!? srsly. *eyeroll* [I'm sure he's a nice guy -- and *far* better organized than this.]

305 I like the picture of Mr. Romney paying his taxes. Why is it being called Troll of the Day? I don't get it. Posted by: grammie winger at April 16, 2014 09:03 AM (oMKp3) To the few posters who snorted doubt about Romney standing in line to pay taxes because he's worth $300M , apparently you have little experience with genuinely -earned- it rich people. The vast majority of them like and enjoy the same basic down to earth things that the rest of us do. They aren't that comfortable with having things done for them , so they do a lot of it themselves, including pumping gas(remember the cell phone photo a guy took right after the election of Romney filling his car up?), going into a grocery store and shopping, etc. Anne Romney's horses are ridden and trained at a public barn, by a trainer who trains horses for others. it is well known in the horse world that she and Mitt are extremely nice, friendly folks, who get their hands dirty at the stable, doing their own stuff with the horses. Riding is what has kept Ann's MS in check, she actually has earned dressage riding medals all the way through the highest levels. I would remind you that Ronald Reagan spent his presidential vacations at Ranch del Cielo building fences, putting in linoleum onto building floors, etc. himself. http://anzavalleyranch.com/presidential.html George Bush drove the Secret Service nuts with chain sawing brush himself at his ranch in Texas during his presidential tenure. http://tinyurl.com/nwyxgf5 Warren Buffett still owns and lives in the same five bedroom house he bought in 1957...for $31,000. Compared to the major slacker that was elected tha t can't even demand an apology from Ben Carson himself , but has to have someone else do it.....

306 The shot of Romney doesn't say what taxes he is paying. They could be local real estate taxes, which in many places, mine included, it is best to pay in person and get the receipt, because the local treasurer has been known to screw up. Or there is an issue that needs to be addressed in person with classification, etc. Looks like a local gov. office to me.

307 Oops, take back the last comment. Looked at the enlarged version of the photo and it is the post office. Whatever. It's still a great shot at Dingy Harry.
