The House voted 232-186 to approve the panel. The vote breakdown was 225 Republicans and 7 Democrats in favor, with 186 Democrats voting against the measure. The Democrats who backed the probe were all moderate to conservative party members who face tough re-election campaigns.
LOL, "conservative" Democrats? What planet is this guy on? I will investigate this further when I have time.

President Obama today said Americans had developed the “wrongheaded” view that Washington won’t look out for them, a fallacy he said was stoked by conservatives and their philosophy that says people are “on their own.”

Unless you're a Div-I football or basketball player; then the athletic department will work with the local law enforcement to make sure it never comes to light and/or bully the victim so you get to keep your scholarship and never miss a day of conditioning.
Just as wrong as the story you posted, but anyone who says, "Um, what the fuck?" gets eviscerated.

Morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes. Sorry that I haven’t been telling any stories this week, but I just haven’t had the energy. Here’s one about the author William Faulkner; it’s a famous story and you may have heard it before:
Faulkner was signed to Warner Brothers. Jack Warner, considering the prestige having the writer would bring to the studio, was prepared to treat him with kid gloves. When Faulkner arrived to work, Warner showed him a lavish office with two secretaries. “Thank you, Mr. Warner,” the writer replied, “but if it’s all the same to you, I’d rather work at home.” Warner hurriedly assured Faulkner that he wouldn’t have to punch a clock or account for his time; he could come and go as he pleased. But Faulkner simply shrugged, “I would prefer not to work in an office.” Warner decided that for once he could relax his rules, and gave Faulkner permission to work at home.
The project Faulkner was working on was the Bogie-Bacall The Big Sleep. A few weeks into the assignment, an emergency arose and Warner told his secretary to get Faulkner on the phone. A few minutes later, a voice squawked from the intercom on the mogul’s desk: “This is long distance. We’re ready on your call to Mr. Faulkner.”
“Long distance?” Warner yelped.
“Yes, sir,” the operator replied. “Oxford, Mississippi.”
Warner snatched up his receiver. “Mr. Faulkner, how could you leave town without letting me know?” he yelled. “You said you’d be working at home!”
“I am home,” Faulkner responded coolly. “I live in Mississippi.”
Hope you all have a wonderful day.

What a coincidence! Just finished my morning dose of Boston Herald, including this story. But are you surprised? MA just may be the most corrupt state in the Union.
Two other interesting tidbits from MA: a "corruption" trial is just starting, accusing a trio of appointed officials of pushing friends of political hacks up the state employment ladder while ignoring people who were actually qualified but lacked political pull. If someone wanted to stop this practice, everyone from Devil Patrick down would be in jail. In the four years I've lived here, I have yet to find ONE government employee who was even remotely competent. It's a miracle when one speaks intelligible English....
But the state shows its true colors -- blue, and yellow -- in Howie Carr's Herald column this morning: http://bit.ly/SHlbI4 . We're just so damn liberal and caring heah!

In the Government has nothing better to do news:
The U.S. Department of Agriculture, in partnership with the National Center for Lesbian Rights, is launching Rural Pride – a campaign to elevate and address the needs of LGBT people living in rural communities across the country.
Press release:
The goal of the campaign is to challenge the stereotype that LGBT people live only in metropolitan areas by elevating the voices and stories of LGBT people living in rural America. The campaign will also raise awareness of the particular issues faced by LGBT rural communities including increased rates of economic insecurity, lack of family protections, lack of nondiscrimination protections, and the heightened challenges facing rural LGBT youth and rural LGBT people of color.
The centerpiece of the campaign is a series of day-long summits hosted by USDA, NCLR, and local partners based in rural communities across the country. These summits will focus on the unique needs of the rural LGBT community, highlight the efforts the Obama administration has undertaken to protect this community, and identify next steps to ensure all rural communities have access to the resources they need to thrive.

NO!
The time for mockery is over. He is not your goofy, too often drunk, uncle. This man is fomenting hatred for private citizens from the floor of the Senate. he is a disgrace and a dangerous cancer on the body politic and not finding a way to sanction him will lead to worse.
We have seen the lack of outrage over the destructive power of the IRS being focused on groups whom the admin. considers its enemies don't think violence is not a possibility.

I think that by some method or calamity, this will soon be a self correcting problem.

So, let me make sure I get this straight- the City Attorney (acting out of pure professionalism, I'm sure) says "Hey, we have no reason to believe this woman is a criminal in any way, but we can't give her gun back without an FFL check." Then the cops say, "Sure, we like disarming law-abiding citizens. It's so much easier than disarming the law-breakers," and take her gun.
THEN when she asks for it back, they say, "Sorry, no can do. The lawyer says we can't give it back without an FFL check, and we don't have anyone on staff who can do that."
What? Are there no FFL dealers in Colorado? You couldn't find one to do the check? Heck, I bet she'd pay for it at this point (though she shouldn't have to).
Knowing the Fort Collins Police as I do (and I do have some passing familiarity with them, FC being a college town and all), they just don't want to be bothered with it. Couple that with a city attorney who is a freaking moron and you have this situation.
At least the county sheriff is saying the right things, but he has no authority in this matter.

But at least someone at the DOT has a sense of humor. The annoying digital road signs this morning? "Changing lanes? Use yah blinkah!" I admit it...I laughed.

I watched that Sharpton thing. My 17 year old finds his show so hysterical that he watches it nearly every day. Then he'll come show me the clips. This one was of Sharpton playing preacher man at the front of the pulpit. He was presiding over the "death" of all the Republican talking points re: Obamacare So, this particular, garbled comment of his was his attempt at mocking the Rs...or something.
Btw, if you ever have the misfortune to watch his show, or Shultz, it's amazing how juvenile their presentations are. They are loaded with cartoonish depictions and out-and-out propaganda. I can't imagine anyone with an ounce of dignity or even average intelligence buying into it. But such is the LIV.

Here in south China, only a few years ago, I can remember by May 1, it was hot and we were sweating in shorts and Tshirts. Now, weather forecast for rest of May is rain every day with highs in the 70s and lows in the 60s. Pools opened May 1 but water is freezing. Another month of indoor heated pools for me.
