— Ace This, the New York Times understatedly tells us, represents a "substantial" revision of the figure.
The figure was actually lowered below the level analysts expected. They thought it would be lowered to 2.5%.
They say they expect "lackluster" growth throughout this year. And:
It is also well below the so-called breakout speed economists have been hoping to see the economy sustain for more than a quarter or two.
No sh*t really?
Analysts are of course blaming... the weather. Yes, they figure it was all this Global Warming falling over much of the country that is responsible for the economy's failure -- now it its fifth year -- to reach break out speed.

Asked about tax reform at a press breakfast hosted by the Christian Science Monitor, Corker said: "I see no way it is going to be dealt with this year. In fact, I see no way anything important is going to be dealt with this year."
He said "GSE reform" -- meaning government-sponsored enterprises like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- was the only possible exception.

California Senate Democrats on Thursday blocked a move to expel their Democratic colleague Sen. Rod Wright by sending a Republican proposal to the Rules Committee, where it could permanently stall.
Sen. Steve Knight, a Republican from Palmdale, introduced a resolution to expel Wright from the Senate because a jury found him guilty of eight felonies last month for lying about living in the district he represents.
“This will be precedent-setting,” Knight said as debate on his measure was being quashed on a 21-13, mostly party-line vote.

Will they point out any other year--besides the years in the Glorious Reign of Lord Obaaama--where we suffered similar reductions due to the weather?
Are you out of your fucking mind? Of course not, only Lord Obaaama has had to endure the fickleness of the Weather Gods.
That he has so mightily overcome their efforts to stymie his recovery--forcing growth where all others would have none--is a true testament to his glory and skill.
Anyway, as I said, before everyone left (I should take the hint, eh?):
That's 1.9% that includes how many billions a month of phony money pumped in by the Fed? Shuffled around and amplified as banks keep scrambling to paper over their debts; lent to corporations to buy back stock, further inflating the stock market.
Yeah.
It's worse than it looks.
The only thing that surprises me is how long they've been able to keep up the con.
Which I knew would be a long time because everyone--you, me, everyone--is invested in keeping this train rolling along. Even if we have to pretend to believe lies.
So yeah? The coming crash? Sure, they'll write it in the books as a "surprise."
A surprise not seen since Wily E. Coyote found himself suspended in air 20 feet from the cliff edge.

"Hungry" defined as missed a single meal in the past 30 days, to keep that number big and scary.
I feel bad that there are kids who get fucked into being by people who can't be bothered to make an attempt to feed them (with free food!) on the days school is not in session, but taking more money from responsible people to give to bureaucrats won't help them.

In some states it goes on a card that can be used like a debit card to get cash or for non-food purchases. (Heh. My corner liquor store has a sign on the ATM that reminds customers it is a violation of state law to use their HoosierWorks card to get cash from an ATM in a liquor store. There's a gas station with an ATM 30 yards away. Not sure which governor signed that law, but I'm sure he got properly bashed for being cruel to the poor, making them walk an extra 60 yards to get booze with taxpayer money.)

In any event, I think that Amity Schlaes' book "The Forgotten Man" paints a more accurate picture of the Great Depression and lays much of the responsibility on specific actions taken by FDR and his administration. I think that it was not so much the mobilization for WW II that ended the Depression as much as the fact that it distracted Roosevelt and his administration from screwing with the economy.
Just remember that when Democrats sing the praises of The New Deal, what they are actually nostalgic for is The Great Depression.
