Werewolf + Cop = "Wolfcop"
— Ace

Yeah I don't know about this.

I'm not sure why, but werewolf movies almost never work and almost never make money. You can bring up An American Werewolf in London, sure, but that was, seriously, could it be this long? That was over thirty years ago.

I'll admit that I liked the Jack Nicholson/James Spader werewolf movie Wolf a bit more than I probably should have. (And that was probably because it was less a werewolf movie than a superhero movie.) But almost no one else liked that movie.

And that was... twenty years ago.

And since then, what? They got to be the second-string Monster Boyfriends in the Twilight movies, but they weren't the stars. I think people claimed to be on "Team Jacob" (or whoever) just to be nice and to pretend along that there was some actual conflict in these movies.

They tried to remake The Wolfman, with Benecio Del Toro if I'm remembering right, and all I remember about that movie was terrible CGI and a convoluted plot that I cannot recall at all and then fast forwarding to the climax, because I was bored and figured I should at least see the Bad CGI Finale.

Will "Wolfcop" change all that, and bring a new respect to the overlooked, underappreciated lycanthrope movie?

Answer: No.

Via @MTotenkopf and @rdbrewer4.

They should remake this movie.

I never saw it, but I did see the trailer, and I was always fascinated by "The Werewolf Break," an intermission where they'd allow you to piece together the mystery of who the werewolf was.

9 Pretty sure the last werewolf movie which didn't suck, at least from a cheese point of view, was Monster Squad, which played with the idea of if a werewolf could be killed by blowing him into chunky salsa.

21 Good werewolf stories fall into one of three varieties- 1- Whodunnit (who is it?) 2- Dr. Jekyl & Mr. Hyde 3- What's the monster (in which case, the monster being a werewolf is more or less what we in software development call "an implementation detail.") Few werewolf movies have tried to do any of these (and, yes, Hairy Hulk is different) in a long time, and the few that have were terribly written and relied far too much on CGI.

38 Werewolves? Oh, now THIS is obligatory. On one otherwise normal Tuesday evening I had the chance to live the American dream. I was able to throw my incompetent jackass of a boss from a fourteenth-story window. Now, I didn't just wake up that morning and decide that I was going to kill my boss with my bare hands. It really was much more complicated than that. In my life up to that point I would never have even considered something that sounded so crazy. I was just a normal guy, a working stiff. Heck, I was an accountant. It doesn't get much more mundane than that. That one screwed-up event changed my life. Little did I realize that turning my boss into sidewalk pizza would have so many bizarre consequences. Well, technically, he did not actually hit the sidewalk. He landed on the roof of a double-parked Lincoln Navigator, but I digress. My name is Owen Zastava Pitt and this is my story. Monster Hunter International, Chapter 1 http://tinyurl.com/mext4vu

41 There was the Underworld Series that featured Werewolves pretty prominently.

On TV, you have "Being Human" that did fairly well, also a Vampire vs/with Werewolf thing.  "Hemlock Grove" went with more subtlety, but still with Vampires vs/with Werewolves.  It was great, and did quite well for a Netflix release.

103 Problem is, the things that resonate are the things that speak to something--notice how vampires stay evergreen by being reinvented over and over? Werewolves...the predator you don't see, that kills without warning, that could be anyone. Not sexy enough for Hollywood. Too much like War On Terror (at least until someone comes up with the idea of Tea Party Werewolves--I give it three years tops). They're down with too many of the other predators it could stand for. So it's not like it can't work...their hearts just aren't in it.

There's also that show named 'Bitten' on SyFy.

I think it's a Canadian series.

One of the things about it, that's different from the usual Werewolf lore, is that 'female werewolves are so rare they're almost non-existent'.

So, there's this beautiful blonde female werewolf in the series that is protected by her pack...and sought after by all the other werewolves.

It's a big element in the storyline.

156 Good werewolf stories fall into one of three varieties-

1- Whodunnit (who is it?)
2- Dr. Jekyl & Mr. Hyde
3- What's the monster (in which case, the monster being a werewolf is more or less what we in software development call "an implementation detail.")

Few werewolf movies have tried to do any of these (and, yes, Hairy Hulk is different) in a long time, and the few that have were terribly written and relied far too much on CGI.

Posted by: AllenG (DedicatedTenther) Ah, F It. at April 25, 2014 04:36 PM (PYAXX)

"Silver Bullet" (Stephen King film from mid-80's) was okay, and Type 1.

245 The Avengers are as popular as ever. It isn't as if a werewolf movie wouldn't have a decent audience reception these days. But everything would hinge on the plot.

I can imagine a clever dialogue a la Oscar Wilde take off on Dorian Gray considering an element from Jekyll-Hyde influenced and a Dr. Moreau affect. Given today's fixation on taking prescriptions, the side effects from mood enhancers create beasts from patients on prescriptions, violent outbursts during black-outs, a la werewolf. That, plus the fascist anti-constitutional brainfarts entering "law enforcement" to SWAT unsuspecting and law abiding US citizens at home, a la wolf in sheep's clothing. What? you have to SEE the wooly booger's fur to recognize dangerous behavior; you have to see the human transformed into beast to know it for what it is and does? Even there, it was backwards, a foreign life inhabiting the human that worked best in my book. One of the best scifi visual effects imho is Stargate given aliens in human host bodies.

266 "overrated weenie"

/Who, the SCROTUS?/

Don't conflate a bad script with a bad actor. Don't kill the messenger when it's the script, director, and editing that botches a flick.

Jack Nicholson "as" Jack Nicholson? Even "as" himself, better than the run of the mill by a long shot. The same can be said of Al Pacino, or of Robert DeNiro, and so many others.

Doesn't mean they can't pull off great performances when it matters to them.

One guy I love to watch was introduced to me long ago in To Kill A Mockingbird as Boo Radley, the great Robert Duvall in all his humility as the salt of the earth. And a female who can either blend in as supporting actress or steal the limelight with memorable characters is Cate Blanchett.
