When Bad Movies Are Just Bad - [Niedermeyer's Dead Horse]
— Open Blogger

To quote Lachlan Markay, "AYFKM with this?"

No. No, they are not. This is a thing.

They do, however, attempt to define that quality which differentiates a bad movie from being a good bad movie and just a plain ol' bad movie. This, they conclude, is the latter.

It feels like Zombeavers's writers saw Sharknado and its instant online popularity and thought it'd be easy to replicate something so bad that it's good. But there's a special magic to a movie like Sharknado, and that lies in its earnestness. For all its faults, Ian Ziering sells that he is afraid that sharks will fly out of a tornado and kill his family. It's insane. It's incredibly stupid. And you know what? It's wildly entertaining. Ultimately, Zombeavers is just two out three.

From a title like Zombeavers, you'd probably expect a creature feature studded with gore, goofiness, and perhaps some T&A, right? Well, if that's all you're hoping for from this horror-comedy, you'll be satisfied. Zombeavers delivers in being wacky and graphic. It's just a shame it doesn't aspire to be anything more, like spirited, smart or frightening.

Somehow, I suspect at least a few of us will watch it anyway.

39 Wheatie: because beaverpelts were used for female garments, I think. Last of the Mohicans: A young man, in the dress of an officer, conducted to their steeds two females, who, as it was apparent by their dresses, were prepared to encounter the fatigues of a journey in the woods. One, and she was the more juvenile in her appearance, though both were young, permitted glimpses of her dazzling complexion, fair golden hair, and bright blue eyes, to be caught, as she artlessly suffered the morning air to blow aside the green veil which descended low from her beaver. -- when this was read aloud at my fourth-form English class, the look on my fellow students' faces was... priceless. [BTW several founding members of the Monty Python were alumni of that school. Sometimes it shows.]

58 Saw Captain America: The Winter Soldier last night. In our opinion, a good movie, but not a great one. What bothered us the most was how useless everyone was unless they were a named character. The nerds standing up the the armed Hydra agents were bypassed with the push of a button. The crew trying to close the blast doors to prevent Hydra from invading were all shot on sight. The worst example of the movie's theme of You're Useless Unless You're Named was when the aircrew frantically fighting their way to their aircraft to support Captain America were taken out one by one by the Winter Soldier. No, I'm not putting spoiler tags on this, because all of this didn't advance the plot at all, they were just needless deaths.

Bennett immediately begins injecting rabbits with hormones and genetically mutated blood in an effort to develop a method of disrupting rabbit reproduction. 190 "Dual national - US and Iranian - arrested with boxes of technical information on the JSF F-35. Worked for Pratt and Whitney. Had already made five trips to Iran in the past seven years. Is there anyone anywhere paying attention to anything when it comes to national security?"

Nothing surprises me any more, especially not anything having to do with the absolutely epic trainwreck that is the F-35 program.

It's going to be a really rude wakeup call to America in a few short years when the long comfortable era of unquestioned air superiority suddenly ends thanks to the F-35 disaster.

And American forces on the ground suddenly start having to wonder whether that jet overhead is friendly or not. A question they haven't had to ask in a long time now.

That zombeaver movie looks like it'll be trying too hard and just looks lame. It's a scientific fact that all the best bad movies have already been made. The scifi channel makes a ton of shit. Not good shit, just shit. Boring. The same plot with the furniture moved around doesn't help. Sharknado was a good effort though. It was better than I expected it to be. Still, a little on the "meh" side. Better efforts were "Infestation", that was actually neat. But the champion of good bad scifi channel movies remains the recent "Bigfoot". That shit was awesome. Barry "Greg Brady" Williams (as a total prat), Danny Bonaduce (as an asshole), Sherilyn Fenn (as a cop) and Alice Cooper as Alice Cooper in a flick with a 50 foot high Bigfoot stomping people and biting folks heads off.

It was going for "good bad" and succeeded.

Oooh, if people only had to work 4 hours a day (as opposed to a more normal 8hrs), then stores and businees would need to hire twice as may people to stay open roughly the same times, and we'd have twice as many people in the work force, and unemployment would go down to about 0.

239 beaver (n.)
Old English beofor, befer (earlier bebr), from Proto-Germanic *bebruz (cognates: Old Saxon bibar, Old Norse bjorr, Middle Dutch and Dutch bever, Low German bever, Old High German bibar, German Biber), from PIE *bhebhrus, reduplication of root *bher- (3) "brown, bright" (cognates: Lithuanian bebrus, Czech bobr, Welsh befer; see bear (n.) for the likely reason for this). Gynecological sense ("female genitals, especially with a display of pubic hair") is 1927 British slang, transferred from earlier meaning "a bearded man" (1910), from the appearance of split beaver pelts.
