Is This Something?, Yeti Edition
— Ace

Is this a yeti?

Come on, you know damn well that's a yeti.

Okay, so you're claiming that's a dog. Well, fine, smartie-pants -- but how would he know to imitate a yeti unless he had actually seen a yeti?

You will have to admit that this is a yeti, at least.

A baby yeti.

thisisayetiandyouknowit.jpg

That's obviously a yeti. It's carrying around a chunk of snow, for crying out loud.

Admit it's a yeti. You can lie to me, but don't lie to yourself.

So now you say "That's a Japanese Macaque," and I say:

That's just another word for yeti, Poindexter.

And Speaking of Something Which Isn't This: Two-sentence horror stories.

Most of them fall into the same few patterns, but the one about the kid complaining about a monster under his bed is darned good.

Posted by: Lincolntf Wow - -I just watched the movie version of the story! Weird coincidence. It was a pretty good movie too, and have Ed Harris as a mysterious CIA agent in a Siberian gulag. After watching the movie, I read up on it and discovered that the "author" actually stole the entire story from a guy who told it to him once. In other words: I DID happen, but just not to the author! He claimed an actual escapee's story as his own. I don't think the movie has the Yeti part in it, though.

94 Do the feds actually own this land or the state?? I have heard conflicting reports. *** As I understand it, the Feds own it, hence the mistake Bundy is making is in his big picture argument of fed land ownership. He's arguing that grazing fees should go to the state or local governments, and not the feds. I completely empathize with this position, however, as a number of us have put forth today, we think this is a losing argument. He needs to be arguing against the taking of grazing land in protection of a tortoise that is, reportedly, being routinely euthanized anyway. He should be arguing against the massive use of force in an attempt to intimidate him. He needs representation STAT.

96...As I understand it, the Feds own it, hence the mistake Bundy is making is in his big picture argument of fed land ownership.

It goes back to when these western States became states, NDH.

No, the Feds don't really 'own' these lands.

It was supposed to be a "temporary" arrangement, for the Feds to manage these open lands.

So the BLM was created to do just that...manage the lands.

But when these States became states, it was part of the agreement that these lands were 'theirs'.

138 I read all the two-sentence stories. It's rather a limiting format. With that little room to work, you pretty much need to follow one of two structures: (a) set up an expectation, then subvert it; (b) hint at a bad situation, then show it. Well, we can do that here too. I'll start! "I proudly cast my vote for the smartest and most ethical President ever. Five years later, it dawned on me... I had actually voted for Barack Obama." "'Since I started True the Vote, I've been probed by the FBI, BATF, OSHA, and the EPA,' said Catherine Engelbrecht. Then her phone rang." "Hillary woke up with a throbbing hangover, naked in an unfamiliar bed. She turned over and and realized she was in bed with... JOE BIDEN!"

Me: "Its a whitetail!" Researchers: "It is a deer. Well, at least we know there is a potential food source here!" Me: "Surprise! Is there any place in the North America outside of the concrete jungle where deer do not live?"

If only there were a Constitutionally co-equal branch of the federal government, gifted by the Constitution with the "power of the purse", which could use that power to shut off funding to federal agencies run amuck.

291 Comment I found at Las Vegas Sun. Can't really find much detailed reporting. **** Diogenes 3 hours ago - Bundy is the last of 53 ranchers who grazed herds on this land. His family has been using it since the 1870s. The rest have been driven off - and out of business.- BLM "reclassified" the land 20 years ago. - Claims of protecting the desert tortoise are bogus because the BLM has started killing them in large numbers due to "lack of funding" to care for them. Even if it were true, cattle are not incompatible with the tortoise. - BLM's replacement excuse is to make it a "conservation area", but conservation of this type of land does not preclude grazing. In fact, buffalo and bison roamed here. - The BLM is destroying wells the ranchers built and maintained on the land (the "land restoration" they're doing). - Cattle are being rounded up, at least in part, by helicopters and some cattle are dying due to running in the desert heat. - In its wisdom, the BLM chose calving season for its raid. Calves are dying from being separated from their mothers. - From Day 1 the BLM showed up with hundreds, including snipers stationed around the area, and Blackwater type mercenaries. - Nevada state police on the scene have been turning their backs on the BLM because they don't approve of the tactics. - County Sheriff Gillespie has refused to act to stop the BLM, although it is within his authority to turn back the feds when they act against the public safety of citizens. - BLM is making millions on similar cleared lands in northern Nevada, auctioning mineral and gas rights once ranchers are cleared.

319 So, I was smoking Kool 100's for years when our governor decided to jack cigarette taxes. Not just once, but three times in his tenure, the last for more than a dollar a pack. Most republicans supported those increases because, as noted above, the percentage of those who smoke make it tough to mount an effective outcry. Some conservatives (bs) I knew were all for it, because they didn't smoke and fuck you, that's why. With smokes over 7.00 a pack and rising, I bought a rolling machine, some papers and tobacco and got to work. 1.50 a pack, and made defiantly as a tax protest since 2008.

The property rights in the West are seriously fucked up. The Feds own over 50% of all the land. In the East, less than 10%. So English common law give you title to property in your possession after 14 years, seven under color of title, aka a fake title. I don't think that applies in this case, just saying. The guy has been getting a free ride for a while, this is not a clear property rights fight.

I've lived my whole life in the Rocky Mountain West, and thought nothing of driving through BLM and even National Forest lands with herds of cattle nearby, even in high meadows of the Bighorn Mountains. It was a symbiotic relationship between the fed and the rancher, and that is now all eroding, just like every other aspect of the federal government in our lives. We are dealing with Marxists, fascists.

I remember the original Sagebrush Rebellion which helped get Reagan elected.

Someone from Montana pointed out that if you put all of the locked-away Western land into private, productive hands, there would be a huge boom in the West, and the economies of the Eastern states would become far less significant in the national economic ledger.

Whenever anyone says, "This isn't about the money," it's about the money.

384 Yetis? Lemme tell you about yetis. My younger sister Evangeline went to Nepal, got hooked up with a yeti. Brought the sonofabitch home with her. Typical green card scam. Soon as he was over here, he dropped her and started hanging out with this skunk ape chick from Florida named Cheryl. Okay, lesson learned, you might say, except that this yeti sonofabitch keeps putting down my name on apartment leases and loan applications. Tried to get his big clumsy hands on my credit card but I nipped that in the bud, you better believe it. Stupid Evangeline keeps borrowing money from me and I know it's going to her yeti ex-boyfriend. The last straw was when I went to Oklahoma for spring break, and when I got back I discovered that my trailer was now Yeti Party Central. There were big hairy hominids, mothmen, alien greys, reptoids, you name it, smoking weed and those goddamned clove cigarettes, drinking up all my homebrew and leaving Falstaff cans lying around. Where the hell did they get Falstaff? And you wouldn't believe the scene in the bedroom. My sheets were just indescribable. Hair, fluids, more hair, moth scales, vaseline, glitter, you name it. The place reeked of skunk ape and axe body spray. I'm sure some of those girls were underage, except for the ones who were way too old to be carrying on like that. I had to call the sheriff to kick them all out, and to this day I'm still getting collect phone calls from Nepal in the middle of the night asking for that sonofabitch's new address. Fucking yetis. To hell with all of them.

534 MWNP, Thank you, I won't be here for long because I really want TO fall asleep. I'm sorry you grew up there. I live in Massachusetts where a majority of the electorate think, to this day, that The Kennedy's are American royalty. My late father, passed in 1988, was a great campaigner & had a call from then Governor Volpe in 60s or early 70s asking him to be campaign manager for reelection & my father refused simply because he was a D & Volpe was an R. My older brother (10.5 tears older) answered the phone & told me about it 4-5 years ago. My late mother voted for Dukasis for president for my father, because he passed Wednesday before Election Day in 88. She started voting R afterwards. She was getting &/or had Alzheimer's & wanted to vote for GWB instead of those "jackasses who want to take away my SS & old elderly people might believe them, but not me) so we got her an absentee ballot. It's pitiful that a woman suffering ravages to her brain could see through Kerry/Edwards & others that had no such brain problems could not & still cannot call who The Jackass is to quote my late Mother.
