Former Think Progress Blogger: I Criticized Obama's Afghanistan Surge, and Center for American Progress Read Me the Riot Act For Creating "Daylight" Between CAP and the Obama Administration
— Ace

Ideological bias is last year's news.

Now it's more about simple partisan bias.

This sounds like CAP ejecting the left's anti-war ideological stance to help out a partisan figure they approve of.

Of course, this writer was read the riot act after White House officials called to complain about the piece.

Completely unrelated I'm sure, but Sharyl Attkisson's stories dropped by two thirds in terms of making it on to the CBS Evening News since shortly after Obama took office.

She was the 18th most aired reporter among all network reporters from 2008-2009... and then fell to 78th place.

Apparently her digging into political wrongdoing was appreciated up until Obama was sworn into office, and not so much thereafter.

26 Mr. Ackman told his dinner companions that Representative Linda T. Sánchez, Democrat of California, had sent a letter to the Federal Trade Commission the previous day calling for an investigation of the company. The commission had not yet stamped the letter as received, nor had it been made public. But Mr. Ackman, who had personally lobbied Ms. Sánchez and stood to profit if the company’s stock dropped as a result of the call for an inquiry, already knew what it said, and read from a copy of it that he had on his cellphone. In our era of co-opted, under-funded, weak regulators, investors that sell stocks short are an important defense against corrupt businesses. ” When Ms. Sánchez’s office ultimately issued a news release a month later, it was backdated as though it had been made public the day before Mr. Ackman’s dinner talk. Representative Linda T. Sánchez, Democrat of California, sent a letter to the F.T.C. asking it to investigate Herbalife. Mr. Ackman obtained a copy of the letter before it was made public. The letter was a small hint of Mr. Ackman’s extraordinary attempt to leverage the corridors of power — in Washington, state capitols and city halls — for his hedge fund’s profit after taking a $1 billion financial position called a short, a bet that will pay off only if Herbalife’s stock drops. ... since when have Democrats been acting like "evil" Republicans ... since Bill Clinton rented out the Lincoln bedroom .. and before.

35 I suppose that at least part of the reaction is fear of being called racist on the part of the editors and publishers. I wrote for a half a year or so for The Washington Examiner, and some bits I did got killed because they might have been perceived, by a small minded jerk, as critical of blacks.
Case in point, a piece criticizing people for claiming Detroit is in the shape its in because its run by black people; it tore that perception to bits. But teh racism!
They were just terrified of being accused of racism, even at a very conservative site that otherwise welcomed everything else I wrote.
So they must not allow criticism of the Halfrican American.

Let your freak flag fly, be brave, little newsies.
But I'll always choose the news source that gives me the facts in the most clear and untilted way, hitting both sides of politics in the pills as often and hard as they can. The calling of a news reporter is to be the enemy of those in power.

Precisely so.

Just as dissent was patriotic until noon Eastern Standard Time on January 20th, 2009. At which time dissent stopped being patriotic and started being TEH RAYCISS. To be vocally denounced by all decent upstanding citizens.

If, heaven forbid, a conservative Republican is elected President in 2016, then in January of 2017, dissent will suddenly stop being TEH RAYCISS and instead will promptly become patriotic once again, and a duty of all decent upstanding citizens.

94 The worst part of the Obama generation is that, when faced with overwhelming evidence, they still cling to their hope and their religion.

Have you seen the State Farm ad where a guy is talking quietly, in the dark, on the phone to his insurance rep.  His wife comes into the room all fired up because she believes her husband is talking to a girlfriend.  She demands to know who it is, and what she's wearing.  When the insurance rep says, in a man's voice "Uh ... khakis", the wife rounds on her husband and says, "She sounds hideous".

Your comment reminds me of that ad.  The wife is so convinced she knows the situation that confounding evidence doesn't lead her to rethink her assumptions.

We've all met lefties that don't just refuse to rethink their assumptions, they actually shut out any source of information that might challenge them to rethink anything they "know".

98 I personally have known two people who worked in top tier media. They were both consciously very left wing. They both hated, hated, hated the Right. They both believed they were part of a righteous fight against the forces of darkness, evil, and ignorance as embodied by the stupid, hate-filled bigots on the Right. Posted by: Flatbush Joe And how will this self - correct? It won't. In any true "free" market place, faced with choices between garbage and a real product, people will usually choose a real product. No one can tell the difference, and frankly there is virtually no difference in most of the Media. They are too smart to watch Faux News or open their minds to any alternative.. They're sure it's all evil. The Media is too large and too self-referential to ever change. This will continue until we take other measures. What those are, I have no idea.

No. The progressive left and their foot soldier propagandists in the media are a bunch of authoritarian/totalitarian busy body fuck heads that are cheerfully attempting to oppress their political opponents and undermine the culture in order to bring about the revolutionary utopia. All giving them the benefit of the doubt or assuming that they are good if misguided people does is give them a place to hide their malice.

I am bemused by people who think the Republicans are going to crush Democrats in the election. Where have you been the last three years? Did you really forget 2012 when the GOP was going to sweep into Congress on a huge wave of anger at Obamacare and the economy? You forget how that turned out?
=====
You and I must've lived in alternative 2012s.  In my 2012, the GOP nominated the governor who signed Romneycare into law.  With a grinning Ted Kennedy standing behind him.  Romney's opposition consistently out-polled him in the early primaries, but they also consistently split the anti-Romney votes between themselves.  A consensus anti-Romney opponent never appeared and many, if not most states, have a winner-take-all with a plurality win, or apportion delegates based on a percentage of ballots cast for each candidate.

As for the 2012 election, well, we've hashed and re-hashed that debacle in a zillion earlier threads.

129 To leave character for a moment. I believe... without a shred of doubt... that Barack Obama and his Transnational Progressive compatriots like Val Jarrett, Van Jones, Billy Ayers, Bernadine Dohrn, George Soros, etc. would gladly orchestrate the murder of 32 million Americans without blinking. If they could retain all the power their believe they deserve, and insulate themselves from any "fatal consequences" from an imperfect push toward a totalitarian 'New Progressive America'.

Right now, they are doing all they can to tip the playing field in their favor - to this end.

132 68 The calling of a news reporter is to be the enemy of those in power. Posted by: Christopher Taylor at March 10, 2014 07:32 PM (zfY+H) -------------------- No, it isn't. It's to report as truthfully as possible on what is happening, regardless of whether it rankles or delights those in power. Your formula is the source of great mischief. The journalist who wants to "make a difference" or "challenge power" is committed to something other than truth. This is to embrace Marx's maxim: "the point is not to understand the world, but to change it." Facts, reality, truth mean nothing compared to the Revolution.

Notice that they both know who their real enemies are.
