Nothing to See Here [Y-not]
— Open Blogger

Via the Jawa Report,

Tragedy: Iranian Grad Student at Georgia Tech Dies

Nothing to see here folks. He was just making Molotov Cocktails in his apartment. You know, normal stuff at Georgia Tech:

Go over to the Jawa Report to read the whole thing.

**UPDATE**
Commenter JPS cautions that the news reporting may be way off in saying that the student was making molotov cocktails. Unfortunately, nothing very definitive seems to have been published to counter the media reports, but I did find this statement:

"We have worked closely with other law enforcement agencies during the investigation of this tragic incident," Robert Connolly, interim police chief for Georgia Tech, said in an emailed statement. "The FBI has relayed that, to date, they have not developed any information or evidence indicating criminal intent in this investigation."

Also, per the AP:

Vietnamese authorities searching waters for the missing Boeing 777 jetliner spotted an object Sunday that they suspected was one of the plane's doors, as international intelligence agencies joined the investigation into two passengers who boarded the aircraft with stolen passports.

It's still early days. Keep praying for survivors.

**UPDATE**
Commenter Ricardo Kill provides this update, suggesting that the wreckage is not from the missing Malaysian Air flight:

SEPANG - The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) has denied that the debris found near Vietnam's Tho Chu Island was from of the missing Malaysia Airlines MH370 airplane.

DCA director-general Datuk Azharuddin Abdul Rahman said authorities have confirmed that the objects spotted floating in the sea about 100km south-southwest off the island did not match the body of the missing aircraft.

Let's hope that the subsequent investigation is thorough and not hampered by political correctness.

11 Repost from dead thread 214 Lance Cpl. Kyle Carpenter to receive Medal of Honor. What an inspiration. ------ Medically retired Marine Lance Cpl. William Kyle Carpenter, 24, jumped on a grenade during a rooftop battle against Taliban in Afghanistan in November 2010. His actions saved the life of his friend and fellow Marine Lance Cpl. Nicholas Eufrazio, but nearly cost him his own, Stars and Stripes reports. Carpenter lost one of his eyes and suffered other serious injuries after jumping on a grenade during a rooftop battle against Taliban in Afghanistan. Carpenter suffered severe injuries from the blast, including losing his eye and most of his teeth, a shattered jaw, a broken and tattered arm, and countless lacerations from shrapnel. A piece of shrapnel damaged EufrazioÂ’s frontal lobe and left him unable to speak for two years. But both men have made significant leaps in their recovery, and 30 surgeries later, Carpenter ran the Marine Corps Marathon with a posted time of 4:28:42. He consistently goes to the gym and can now do more pull-ups than he ever has been able to before.

Posted by: shredded chi at March 09, 2014 09:31 AM (OmBt5)

27 I think the AP reported that the two passengers with stolen passports checked in together.  Interpol said that their database included the passports in question, which makes the matter even more interesting.  An inside accomplice waved them through?

29 It's too early to assume anything (standard disclaimer), BUT i read that they are looking into two other passengers who boarded with fake ID. The two guys with stolen passports bought their tickets together. Could be conventional criminals, but obviously up to no good. Hmmmm. Also, one of the militaries thinks the plane turned around and headed back to Malaysia.

30 One US expert I saw quoted this morning said that the two stolen passports on one flight in that part of the world was "not uncommon". Lax security, corruption, outdated/unused tech, etc.

34 "ROME (Reuters) - Interpol is investigating more suspect passports used to board a missing Malaysia Airlines flight, in addition to two European ones that were falsely used by unidentified passengers, the global police agency said on Sunday. An Italian man and an Austrian man were falsely listed as passengers on Beijing-bound flight MH370, which disappeared after takeoff from Kuala Lumpur early on Saturday with 239 people aboard. Authorities later confirmed the two men - Austrian Christian Kozel and Italian Luigi Maraldi - were not on the plane, and their passports had been stolen in Thailand within the last two years. An Interpol spokeswoman said a check of all documents used to board the plane had revealed more "suspect passports" that were being further investigated. She was unable to give further information on the number of documents or the country they related to. (Excerpt) Read more at news.yahoo.com ..."

58 Yes there have been so many unexplained explosions over the last few years. What about the apartment in Minnesota in January? That was swept under the rug. We had a condo building catch fire and burn here with reports of people hearing an explosion. At first they said it was hash oil, but then they said it wasn't and they were still investigating. And they have never released a cause. This was a condo complex that had numerous residents from the ME. I suspect if you researched it enough there would be so many unexplained explosions in cities across the country that we would all end up being grateful for incompetent bomb makers.

95 I just don't understand why the powers that be have decided that we must deny that terrorism exists. For decades we all lived with the threat of terrorism, sure sometimes it was the IRA but often it was from one ME group or another. Wouldn't it strengthen our government's argument that they need to tap our phones and read our emails and anally probe us at airports if they admitted that yeah there are ME folks in this country trying to blow us up on a regular basis.

It's the Narrative.  The left adopted the belief long ago that middle eastern terrorists were poor benighted souls who suffered under the yoke of American imperialism.  Hence, any talk about how bad they are is simply another way to justify the need to oppress non-white countries.

130 And, as we've seen with every other security incident -- the public and every government generally wants more and better surveillance and monitoring. If this was terrorism then the key to solving it will be the surveillance videos of the guys with fake passports and facial recognition software that tries to figure out who they are. If the video isn't good enough or the bad guys aren't on file then people will demand ever higher resolution surveillance video and ever more comprehensive picture databases. I can foresee an eventual call for biometric passports. Something with your biometric markers, like DNA. Maybe have to give a saliva sample to verify you are you. Iris, fingerprints, etc. People bitch about the surveillance state, but after every incident most people demand more of it. And the State is eager to comply.

137 When Asiana Flight 214 flew into the ground on an afternoon with perfect flying conditions a lot of people with experience in Asia suggested that the problem may have been that the most senior pilot aboard had the least lfying time in a 777 and that the other pilots may have been too deferential when he made a mistake on the approach. The theory was the pilot was letting the computer fly the plane, he didn't know the imitations of the craft and no one questioned him.   Some -who also  accused American pilots of being cowboys for not trusting the computers- saw that attitude as racist.  The final report hasn't been issued but three weeks ago Asiana announced they were changing how they trained their pilots. The reason given was one of the pilots involved in the crash testified he didn't think he had the authority to call for the landing to be aborted when he saw how low they were.

It was spotted by the Singapore search team. "In the meantime, we are still verifying if the oil slick it matches the MAS Boeing 777-200 with relevant authorities," he said. He added that the search radius has also been expanded from 20 nautical miles to 50 nautical miles. "At present, we have 34 aircraft and 40 ships currently combing the search and rescue areas," he said. Azharuddin said authorities did not rule out the possibility of the aircraft being hijacked, but asserted that the priority was to locate the plane. The aircraft disappeared with 239 people on board, including 12 crewmembers, early Saturday morning while on its way to Beijing." This search is actually going backwards.....

For these states like Louisiana who give tax breaks for filming there, if anyone on the film wins an award, they have to mention the tax break in their acceptance speech. OK, if that's too hard to control, it has to be mentioned by organizers of the award show at the time of the presentation and, if relevant, must be televised. Oh, I would just love to see them up their announcing their little subsidies and debasing themselves.

180 148?
Mike?

My dogs and cats always slept with me- from childhood. We kept them clean, and they always had up to date medicine.

I had the misfortune to encounter one of those "people who never bathe" in Winn-Dixie a few months ago. First thing I smelled was the miasma of cheap perfume to attempt to disguise her stench. Then her- rancid human being. I have done hard, heavy, sweaty labor with huge strong men all my life. If you bathe daily the worst you smell like is a man- not offensive. But if you don't? Rancid butter- it's awful.

My Cole-boy is quite clean. And nestles against me at nite. It's quite comforting.

198 People don't understand that we've already lost the War on Terrorism.

The goal of the terrorist is to change the people or the state or the culture that they are at odds with. So that they either interfere less with the terrorist local control OR that they cease to exist at all as they were originally created or as they grew.

The US and western Civilization is already beyond the first part. We are less and less able to confront or control the interactions with those overseas in the areas where the terrorists are the strongest AND we've changed our basic day to day living style to such that we've become a prison country. We no longer look to innovate (except on surveillance) we have become perpetual whiners of this or that, we no longer are leaders of the world, our financial system teeters on the brink of insolvency and we no longer believe in ourselves or our future.

THEY. WON.

I took a mid-afternoon nap and woke up to find I couldn't move. This was frightening at first but after a moment I realized the blanket was weighted down on each side near my shoulders. Alarming but less scary. I looked around and found I had a dog on each side that had decided to join me on the bed.

267 Y-not, thanks. Wish I had something more concrete to give you, but you're being more cautious than the so-called professional reporters have been.

268 Read this morning that if the plane had a catastrophic decompression at 35,000 feet, the pilots would have been unconscious within two seconds, not enough time to signal or get oxygen masks on. However, I would assume the plane would have been on autopilot at that point, but what do I know? I also don't know if the above is possible without the plane first coming totally apart, which would have resulted in pieces floating around.

270 Let's hope that the subsequent investigation is thorough and not hampered by political correctness. Count on it.
