Next week, we have the first of four blood moons (called a tetrad) that will occur over the next two years. Unfortunately, it is not a sign of the apocalypse even though some religious folks believe this tetrad is significant. We'll just have to continue to wait for SMOD, the Yellowstone Caldera to explode, or the full implementation of Obamacare for the Apocalypse. Homemade Guns

Another example of why banning guns won't work. Check out these sophisticated homemade guns seized by Australian authorities.
The Battle of Ramadi
10 years ago, the men of 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines battled insurgents for control of Ramadi. Known as the Magnificent Bastards, they brought the pain to the jihadi's.
Washington had yet to realize the size of the insurgency it was facing. The Magnificent Bastards found out. They fought back hard against the insurgents after the initial April 6 attack, refusing to give an inch. "The next day we ended up killing a hefty number of bad guys," Weiler said.
On the third day, the Marines went around with megaphones, challenging the insurgents to come out and fight. "We ridiculed them and antagonized them and begged them to come out and fight," Weiler said.
There were no takers.
In a four-day period the battalion had killed 250 insurgents, according to the Marine Corps.

Taxi Cab Confessions
Strange story. Sucks for the cabbie. Lawyer claims cabbie blackmailed her with video of her being intoxicated and coming on to him for sex. I bet that if he had given in to the sexual advances, rape would've been the crime claimed vice blackmail.

Five cylinder radial is interesting, but a Twin Wasp really has the moves.
And, it'd be especially entertaining to watch a Twin Wasp powered F-4 U Corsair make a low pass on certain Nevada ranch land. Strafing run, optional.

In other space related news, I caught a piece about the passing of shuttle-era astronaut Dale Gardner. In a description of his work on the world's first ever on-orbit recovery and return of a satellite, it said:
"...disaster nearly struck when GardnerÂ’s torque wrench floated off and disappeared from view in DiscoveryÂ’s cargo bay. Luckily he managed to retrieve the wrench, which might have posed a grave danger on re-entry."
I, of course, pose a grave danger at all times, and will leave in a huff if it is ever suggested to be otherwise.

Thanks...
I'm okay and this makes a LOT of sense.
Olympic athletes(of which I am now far far from one) have the condition sometimes...
basically something trains your heart that adrenalin means YES GO GO GO and by God it does.....
when wife and I were courting I had an "attack" I guess so severe you could see my heart through my ribcage motion wise...
had no idea it was this condition....

Democrats screamed bloody murder about gas prices under Bush.
I figured that when gas prices went on to have their fastest ascent in history under Obama, and Obama's handpicked Secretary of Energy was talking about how they wanted to get gas prices up to the $8/gal level in Europe, that the Republicans might get an actual clue and similarly scream bloody murder.
Instead, Republicans said "I agree with the President," and "Let's talk about what a total slut this Fluke gal is," and completely ignored the issue of gas prices. Despite poll after poll showing that gas prices were a massive hot button for ordinary voters.
I guarantee that if we ever again have a Republican administration who have record high gas prices on their watch, that Democrats will NOT be agreeing with the incumbent and will NOT be biting down on obvious culture-war bait. They'll be running on high gas prices, 24 by 7, and most likely winning with them.

Unfortunately, the media influences a major part of the national mood in that regard and since they've made it clear they are democratic mouthpieces with a byline, nothing the Republicans do will matter. Even dead Americans don't move the meter. Benghazi. Fast and furious. Nobody gets fired and nobody goes to jail and America keeps voting in the schmucks responsible.
We are the victims of a majority electorate that keeps voting for politicians that fail them.

Character is displayed.
I said to someone once, who was hard beset, "Wow, I feel terrible for all of these tribulations you and your family are enduring," and they said, "No, don't be. Feel sorry for the people who have even worse trouble and who don't have faith and solidarity to carry them through. We will be okay."
That was humbling.

oh the follow up if the meds don't control the pop is a localized freezing of the nerve cluster for the errant electric pulse...

Tortoises are. But: desert rats of my acquaintance tell me that the single biggest threat to tortoises is stupid people going out to the desert, getting wasted, and running around recklessly on dirt bikes and ATVs. They'll deliberately and cruelly toy with tortoises. Try to crush them. Or flip them over and leave them to die in the sun.
Cattle? Not so much. To a cow, a tortoise looks like a very slowly moving rock. And a cow won't step on a rock of any kind if she can possibly avoid it. Cattle by far prefer nice flat surfaces.

God bless, my friend.

405 You're in a desert, walking along in the sand, when all of a sudden you look down and see a tortoise. It's crawling toward you. You reach down and you flip the tortoise over on its back. The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over, but it can't. Not without your help. But you're not helping.
Because your a turtle and your father did that to you.

I hear you. It's a shitty deal all round. Even if the Feds are within the letter of the law in this action, morally they haven't got a leg to stand on. It's clear there has been a concerted effort to drive the ranchers out, with connected friends of Harry Reid standing to profit from the deal. If there was a legitimate need to get all ranchers off the land, then buy them out paying them vastly more money than it's worth, and move them to equally good or better land elsewhere. Still cheaper than paying for what has transpired so far, and what might yet transpire.

BackwardsBoy, when my mother says this is how it started in Cuba, I listen.
It's funny how people perceive others. I have a Mexican woman who works on my team and she seemed to question my Latino roots until she saw some pics of me in the Bahamas and how tan I was. Apparently my tan convinced her I was not a pure gringo. Her B/F is black and he was stunned when he learned of my lineage. He actually told me, " I had no idea!"
You see, I am rather pale these days. Trying to avoid skin cancer dontcha know. I jokingly (but correctly) say I am as white as Obama.

Ben Franklin, my mother told me how she wore 3 dresses and packed her one suitcase per the allowance for those leaving. She was 15 or 16.
She also told me how a few relatives disappeared for a while.
One ran an anti-Castro paper and another smuggled valuables out of the country. Eventually they too had to flee or risk execution.
BTW, Castro is a billionaire. The poverty in Cuba is due to Castro and his cronies looting everything. Castro has many shell companies set up to hide his wealth. Another leftist "man of the people." He blames it all on the embargo. Run of the mill psychopath.

BCochran1981 - Credible Hulk, lucky if true. Che had multiple orgasms over executing innocents and the helpless.
Little known info about Che. Che WAS NOT a doctor. He got an almost sexual thrill murdering the innocent and helpless. Che and Castro tended to disappear when the shooting started. He wore a Rolex watch taken from a victim. He lived in the 2nd largest mansion in Cuba. He forbade his "soldiers" from having sex, but did not follow that rule himself.
During the Bay of Pigs invasion he fell for the ruse of of some boats playing recordings of battle and firing fireworks. He also accidently shot himself during said invasion and almost died.
During his stint in Bolivia, the man who often exhorted his soldiers to fight to the death, fled during the final engagement, surrendered with an unfired pistol, and is said to have yelled, " I am Che Guevara, I am worth more to you alive then dead."
The above info was taken from those that actually served with him at various times.

Now, the significance is not the lunar eclipses or even them happening as a tetrad (four in two years), the reason scholars are interested in these is that they are occuring at important Jewish holidays and when tetrads have occured during Jewish holidays in the past something historical happened. There was a tetrad in 1493-94 which coincided with Queen Isabella forcing Jews to leave Spain; another was in 1949-1950 which occured right after Israel's War for Independence; another was 1967-68 which occured around the time of Israel's Six-Day War and reclaiming Jerusalem.
Often they signal good things for the Jewish people, Hagee points that out. So, he's not saying it's the apocolypse. He's saying, in the past, tetrads during holidays mean something. This tetrad might, too. I hope so.

If that is the case, then one would expect the heavenly signs to be unique or unpredictable events, like supernovas or hitherto-unknown comets. Tetrads, eclipses, and conjunctions are predictable centuries in advance.

The deputy SecState is leaving, and the sweepstakes are now wide open on who will be picked to replace him.
The generic template for Obama nominees is for them to fit at least 2 of 3:
-- Ivy mafia (or at least upper crust academia)
-- Democratic Party careerist hack
-- Fills at least one identity politics box
My money is on Wendy Sherman.
A Smith College alumna. Check.
Worked for EMILY's List and Barbara Mikulski. Check.
Two X chromosomes. Check.
Sherman is the one who was the lead negotiator for the Clinton administration on preventing North Korea from getting the bomb.
Of course, the North Koreans completely rooked the Clinton team, and the Norks promptly got the bomb and laughed in America's face over it, but a small matter of abject incompetence in a matter of critical geostrategic importance never stopped anyone from failing upward in Democratic politics till now, did it?
Obama and Kerry have since entrusted her with the similar task of "preventing" Iran from getting the bomb. Which is going just as well as did her previous efforts with North Korea.
Mark my words, she's a shoo-in.

I have heard of instances, back in the dirty Thirties, when "evil" banks would foreclose on poor farmers and auction off the farm, and friends and neighbors would pack the auction, and prevent any serious bidders from bidding, by fair means or foul. Then the property would be sold for peanuts, and the buyer would give it back to the dispossessed farmer. Perhaps something of the sort could be done here, although Internet and/or telephone bidding might complicate the matter.

About a week ago, I was at Fort Sumter. The exhibits there were actually a lot more balanced than I had expected....but had an interesting and ominous twist to them.
They actually discussed the argument that the Constitution was a compact among the States, and that overreaches by the Federal government could be addressed by Nullification....or, further, secession. They discussed how most garrisons and armories among seceding states ended up in the hands of the state militias; they discussed how a Federal force in Charleston harbor was a direct threat.
Further, they noted that there were no fatalities at the South Carolina attack on Fort Sumter, and that the garrison was allowed to pass in review before the flag, salute it, and take it with them when they left.
The overall tone was that a legitimate difference of opinion came to blows, and -- though blood was shed -- both sides behaved honorably.
But the undercurrent was that Sherman's punitive march -- including its terroristic burnings and razings -- was justified by resistance to Federal dictates.
People today are talking about jury nullification of unjust laws; people today are talking about states refusing to play along with DEA gestapo actions......and Fort Sumter's exhibits state that this justifies total war of annihilation, ruin, and terror against fellow citizens.
I found it quite sobering that the first action of the civil war was so gentlemanly....and the last actions so vicious.

It was not enough to defeat the man on the battlefield, his home must be burned, his wife violated, his children enslaved.
Only then is victory complete, according to Sherman. And it worked. Posted by: navybrat at April 12, 2014 01:27 AM (JgC5a) Hide posts from (JgC5a)
And it's ugly.
My folks came over after the dust settled, and headed west to where most of this stuff never happened. I don't really have a dog in this fight. But it really seems like it started out as almost-philosophical sparring and escalated into meat-grinders like Gettysburg until Sherman took it into war-crimes territory.

I think you missed the point. I'm not talking about "making a deal" with the Government, I'm talking about giving them the shaft at the cattle auction. They stole (seized) 300 head of cattle, and are transporting them to an auction lot in California to sell. Well, then, get a mob of Conservatives and Bundy supporters to pack the ring at that auction, and prevent any would-be buyers from bidding. By peaceful persuasion, if possible, by other means, if not. Have designated buyers get them for pennies a pound, and give them back to the Bundys. Government loses money on the sale, big time.

I am a conservative, unfortunately have to be registered as R in this state, but this crap the Feds are doing, with all the armed response to a man running cattle on a grazing lease is CRAZY!!!
There are a LOT of desert tortoises in the DESERT, even here down in New Mexico, and that's no effing excuse for the ARMED AND SNIPERS response to this guy trying to keep his grazing rights.
TOO much government with too much disrespect towards citizens, is in my humble opinion the basic problem.

===
as a late teen/young adult I learned a lesson the hard way -- and in hindsight I have often wondered why -- why didn't anyone tell me this lesson in plain english before I took my little journey?
The lesson I learned is that mental health is like physical health. Before learning the lesson, I thought of sane/insane as some sort of bright line or toggle -- that is, that humans were only be one thing or the other -- sane or insane. It never occurred to me that both states cover an entire range and that the line between the two could be pretty blurred or bent beyond recognition.
So, based on my faulty assumption that I was guaranteed to be on the sane side of the imaginary toggle -- I believed that I could dabble around in insane behavior without it doing me any harm.
Of course, the lesson I learned is that mental health, like physical health, is a fragile thing and it has to be protected. It seems that our society might be better off if everyone were told that little tidbit a couple times a day.
As it is now, huge segments of our society indulge in mental health equivalents of the physical health act of drinking raw sewage. And, because it seems to me they believe as I did that mental health is a toggle rather than a range -- they assume that their behavior and choices will never make them sick.

taking hallucinogens.
staying in relationships that have taken the crazy train.
drinking to excess.
accepting one's own excuses to an extreme.
continuing to associate with family members or others who know how to push your buttons and take delight in doing so.
accepting ridiculous lies (especially one's own lies).
going too far in blame/shame of one's self or others.
--- and a number of these things are "what the cool kids are doing."
None of these things are guaranteed to make one mentally ill. Then again, drinking raw sewage isn't guaranteed to make one sick either.

To say that they are not strategic resources is just plain wrong. How well will a hungry and naked soldier fight. The loss of those items will effect your enemy and make them easier to defeat.
