Pew Polling Reports That Even Among Obamacare Opponents, Most Want Their Congressmen to "Make Obamacare Work." Here's How They Got The Answer They Wanted.
— Ace

It's a useful bit of propaganda for Obamacare supporters to say "Even those opposed to Obamacare still want their Congressmen to work to improve the system, to make it work."

Pew's supplied the Democrats with that very bandwagon-effect-promoting propaganda.

But did they get the answer they wanted fairly?

Well, imagine how you, personally, would inquire into the preferred course of action of Obamacare supporters. You might give them the options of "Work to improve it anyway," or "Stay out of the way of it/Let it collapse under its own weight," and so forth.

Here are the options -- two of them -- that Pew gave respondents to choose from:

What do you think elected officials who oppose the health care law should do now that the law has started to take effect? Should they [X] or should they [Y]?

Do what they can to make the law work as well as possible

Do what they can to make the law fail

Emphases added.

Pew gave them a binary choice between "doing what they can to make the law work" and actively working to subvert and sabotage the law, and they present it as a meaningful bit of data that 30% supported the former choice, and only 19% the latter.

Good God.

Now, there are those who do actually favor just that -- working to make the law fail. But very few people are at that level of decisiveness (decisive enough on this issue to decide the long-term harms of Obamacare justifies short-term "let it burn" pain).

Most people would still choose a less aggressive, underhanded-sounding response, like "Let it collapse under its own weight."

But Pew refuses respondents that choice, insisting that people either declare their desire to "make Obamacare work the best we can, by Golly!" or declare themselves hostage-taking terrorists of the sort often decried by one Harry Reid.

Why, you'd almost think that major institutions of the media are entirely captured by the political left or something.

Every single election diary or O'Care diary pushes: "Americans overwhelmingly do not want Obamacare repealed".

207 I'm an optimist, so I'll make another optimistic prediction. I pretty much think that Obamacare will be either repealed or abanadoned (arguably it has already been abandoned). In its wake, it is going to leave a lot of negative court rulings which will affect existing and future liberal programs for a long time to come (e.g., the Obamacare ruling, even though I believe Roberts screwed it up).

Whilst cleaning out my inbox, I ran across a couple of surveys from the RNC. Amazingly, their questions weren't much different than this P-U "poll." The next dead tree survey I get, I'll send it back with the proper questions/answers on it. And no money, because funemployment.

Of course the Dems want Republicans to "fix it".

That way, they can blame the whole mess on them.

218 The really maddening thing is that these sorts of obviously bullshit push polling routinely throw the GOP establishment into hysterical fainting fits.

Last round of government shutdown, one of the networks ran a poll with absolutely teeteringly biased internals, oversampling Democrats so massively that they might as well have just phoned the DNC.

That poll showed -- wait for it -- that the "public" blamed the shutdown entirely on evil Republicans.

Two seconds after the release of that poll, the GOP establishment panicked, folded, and gave Obama everything he wanted. Spines of steel, I tell you. Cold-rolled, hardened steel.

The total influence -- economic, political, even spiritual -- is felt in every city, every State house, every office of the Federal government. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil, resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our society. In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the political-media complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge political and propaganda machinery of Media with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together."

295 There's a video on Netflix called 'Breaking China' that pegs the 10 year number at 57,000 factories. Of course they don't blame BJ Clinton, just the WTO. I slammed my forehead on the coffee table repeatedly as I watched. I still can not comprehend that the American people are so incredibly stupid that not only would they give BJ a pass, that they would ever consider his wife as a candidate for President. Now I'm even more depressed. We got laid off right before the holidays back in '94 thanks to that. My life hasn't been the same since. Just think: we have the world's largest economy. What would our economy look like if we made our own products instead of China? I'd like to see someone crunch some numbers on that one. I'd do it, except Guinness.

300 Democrats have been waiting for ObamaCare to become popular for four years.

And counting.

Congressional leaders and senior White House advisers have been saying since 2010 that public opinion will turn their way sometime soon. Be patient, they have told anxious members of their party again and again.

“I think as people learn about the bill, and now that the bill is enacted, it’s going to become more and more popular,” Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” in March 2010. “So I predict ... by November those who voted for healthcare will find it an asset, those who voted against it will find it a liability.”

It's multifactorial. There are a whole bunch of other structural reasons beyond China MFN and Mexico NAFTA why it became less and less of a going proposition to manufacture in America.

Note that about 80% of those reasons had to do with liberal policies. Environment, labor, employer liability, energy costs, identity politics in the workplace, et cetera.

Well, our illustrious representatives were more than happy to eliminate an entire sector of our economy for no good reason. As noted above, there were many reasons for it, all of them from Dims. After the Tiananmen Square massacre, the first response from President George H.W.
