The Affordable Food Act will ensure fairness by ensuring that no one can grow anything edible on their property, even for their personal use, because it might affect Interstate Commerce. Exceptions will be made for campaign donors, agribusiness firms, and certain growers of exotic hemp products. The Department of Agriculture will use drone based Agent Orange sprayers to keep the growing of private food stocks under control.

At Crazy Barack's, our health insurance deals are insaaaaaaaaaane!
Actually I have had good success explaining to LIVs why Obamacare will not work and can not work by using a simple auto insurance analogy.
"Assume everyone got charged the same price for auto insurance regardless of what their driving record was. Including not just tickets, but totaling the car, or DUI. How well do you think that would work?"
"Now imagine that the auto insurance company could not turn you down when you applied, no matter what."
"And then, imagine that you could have no auto insurance, get in a car wreck, go in to apply for insurance to have the car fixed, AND they couldn't turn you down AND could not charge you more than any other applicant."
"How long do you think you would still be able to get auto insurance that was worth a damn if things worked that way?"

The fee — two-tenths of a cent on every gallon sold — was tacked on to the end of the 959-page bill, which is winding its way through Capitol Hill. The fee would last for nearly 20 years and would siphon the money to develop equipment that is cheaper, more efficient and safer, and to encourage consumers to update their equipment.

All over the North really--Chicago area for sure. I was actually working in New Jersey on a project where there was a big push to get people to switch to natural gas. The heating oil folks were running truly hilarious ads swearing that switching to natural gas would cause your house to blow up. When people found out I was from Oklahoma, they asked me how many houses blew up a month due to natural gas.

I seem to recall one of the Kennedys--the scrunt who wrote an op-ed blasting Sarah Palin because the oil companies have made snow in Virginia extinct, IIRC--boasting quite a bit about getting heating oil from Chavez to give away to Dem voters in the NE.
Posted by: HR at February 03, 2014 10:00 AM (ZKzrr)
In early 2012, I was muttering constantly, "It's the economy, stupid. It's the economy, stupid. It's the economy, stupid."
Meanwhile, I was wondering what the Democrats would do to distract from "It's the economy, stupid." Because they understand quite well that this particular pitch is murder on incumbents with weak economic records. It threw out G.H.W. Bush very handily.
What the Democrats did was to dangle culture war bait in the form of Sandra Fluke. Who should have been ignored as the ridiculous nonentity which she is.
Instead, Limbaugh bit down hard on that bait like the dumbest trout in the river, and called Fluke a slut on air, and wham! Culture war, game on. A game which the Democrats were absolutely delighted to play on offense right through Election Day. (Instead of playing defense against "It's the economy, stupid.")
Thanks, Rush. Awesome work there.

Disproportionately used in the heavily liberal Northeast.
Subsidized to consumers there via programs such as LIHEAP.
Want to make a Northeastern liberal's eyeballs bleed? Tell them that if they're serious about stopping the menace of global warming, they need to repeal the heating oil subsidies to encourage "renewables" instead. It's for the planet, and stuff.
In reality this is one of those third rail issues, and heating oil subsidies will *never* be seriously contemplated for repeal. But it's lots of fun to twit them about it.

Another way of looking at this. Lawyers are usually the ones making up our state and fed legislatures. What do they do? They make a law for every function in human life. So many laws that one must have a lawyer to decipher the web they've woven.
If they can't convict on one law, there's a dozen waiting in the wings they can convict on. Everyone is guilty. It takes a lawyer to divine how guilty.

I could take or leave the "all lawyers suck" discussion.
The "Alex wants to victimize everyone" thing ? I could listen to a bit more. Take your time Alex. I insist.

No worries here, I'll just stipulate she not be permitted a foot stool in the ring. My lawyer will insist on it being in the contract.

Butter-cream is simply denser than whipped cream frosting, and has a much better mouth feel.
And really, who gives a fuck about the health benefits or calories contained in a cake?
Are you fucking retarded? It's a cake. It's dessert! It's supposed to be decadent.

That thing about having attorneys at a closing is probably mostly a NE thing, and would tend to I agree. It appears to be mostly an unnecessary hurdle. In the NW, we allow limited practitioners of law to do such routine things.
But if it's substantial purchase, a commercial property, or some non-routine issues involved, the expense to have an attorney attend to the transaction would likely be dwarfed by the expense of litigating any resulting issues. Life is complicated. No sense whining about it.

Ol' grandad feels the call of nature at two in the morning and heads out to the outhouse. When he's finished, he looks around.
No corn cob.
No Sears catalogue.
No nothing.
Then he spots something white on the ground and reaches for it.
Half an hour later, he comes back into the house. "What took you so long, pappy?" ol' grandma asks.
"Just stopped to wash my hands on the way back," says he.
"Why? You never washed your hands before after coming back from the outhouse."
"Yep. But I ain't never wiped my ass with a moonbeam before, either."
