Rand Paul making robo-calls for Karl Rove's group in Florida?
There's an article about it over at Breitbart.
Not sure what to make of it.

Why would you want to put him in an office without any real power? Its really not an office, its a punishment. The vice-presidency of the United States is the worst consolation price in history.

I was just surprised that Cruz didn't fair better in percentages.
From NRO, "This is Senator PaulÂ’s second win in a row. He won with 31 percent of the vote, with Senator Ted Cruz taking 11 percent. Ben Carson, a retired neurosurgeon and Fox News contributor whoÂ’s been named as a potential 2016 dark-horse candidate, came in third with 9 percent of the vote."

Saying this as someone that voted for Rand, you might not want to leave this poll open too long. If the Paulbots catch whiff of it, they will throw the results completely out of whack.

The big plus factor is if it turns out to be a successful presidency, like Reagan/Bush, then the VP has a leg up at carrying the success forward. But, for that to work out as a plus, you need someone in the VP slot who wants to advance those policies further instead of gutting them.

Yeah well, the thing is: Sessions is the only Republican I half way trust on immigration and thats my main criteria, my litmus test. I think every other Republican will ultimately push it and if Sessions is depending on such a Republican for his influence, he might be of more use as an independent Senator.

CPAC is now a parody of its name. It's getting to be GOPe PAC.
Posted by: ManWithNoParty
As was mentioned earlier in the week, CPAC's own demographic analysis shows their attendees in no way reflect the Republican, let alone Conservative base.
The crowd is half female, overwhelming college age and mostly from within a couple of hours drive of DC.
Hence all the networking breakouts and such. Disproportionately 5th year seniors who bring their resumes with them.

90 Cruz for AG in a Perry administration.

That would be excellent.

These regulatory agencies are rotten to the core and full of shitty democrats who will undermine any effort. It is not going to be enough to elect a conservative to POTUS and GOP Congress.
I hope Perry forces the issue ( if he runs) and rekindles the debate about what agencies will need to be let go and others completely reformed. It is a debate that absolutely needs airing. The Federal Government is broken and corrupt.

Texas has some good conservatives that could run for Cruz's seat in a special election. You have a good point about preserving non-moonbat votes in the Senate though I sure would like to see Cruz swing into action as AG.

215...A long history of making tough sounding noises about border security, and it's always been nothing but noise. Sorry, it's not what I call rock-solid.

*Ahem*
Perry has put Gunboats in the Rio Grande and his own Texas Rangers patrolling the border.
All at his own state's expense!
Which is not his fucking job...it's the Federal Govt's job.
And as governor, he doesn't have the power to deport the illegals when he rounds them up!

Help a moron out here.
All of my elderly family members now have Caller ID.
But they are all from an earlier and more innocent era and it is INCREDIBLY GODDAMNED HARD to get them to ignore a ringing phone, even when the Caller ID says it's unknown or unrecognized. They'll still pick up and talk to whomever it is (a scammer, of course).
Instinctively, automatically. Because in their day, that's what you did. And even if they don't fall for the scam, the mere fact that they answered then brings a flood of further scam calls. About which they then bitch to me.
My saying, "If you hadn't bloody well talked to the first one then this problem would be a lot less frequent," has not been helpful.
What I want is a technological fix. A phone system where it will ring _if and only if_ the Caller ID matches something in its known internal directory, and will go silently to voice mail if there is no match. So friends, family, doctors' offices and whatnot can reach them quickly in person, but scammers will be discouraged.
Does anyone know if such a product even exists?

There are a variety of devices out there. Do a search on 'caller ID screener' for a sampling.

I feel like I should at least have a fifth choice, but nobody else really registers with me at the moment, except in a negative sense. Christie, Rubio and "Not Another Bush" can eat a balls.
It's still early right now. Any of my top four could fall out of favor with me, or someone who I don't actively dislike might move up into my field of supportable candidates.

Minus Reagan's incredibly deft abilities to (a) keep the various factions inside the GOP big tent from slitting one another's throats, and (b) to magnetically pull certain blocs of voters from inside the Democratic tent.
Reagan's attitude towards libertarians was incredibly warm and welcoming. Go back and read his pathbreaking 1976 interview with _Reason_.
Whereas Santorum thinks they're a bunch of inimical libertines under color of liberty, who will dope and screw decent society into extinction while wrapped in the Constitution. And he never misses an opportunity to shit down their necks.

If a new conservative party emerges, it should run its first round of primaries based on the previous general presidential election. Those states the last Republican candidate won by the widest margins should go first, and blue states should go last.

Interestingly almost every young or youngish person with a functioning brain and a job that I have talked with is very engaged when it comes to government "spying" and loss of privacy. They do agree that the government is too big and out of control, in that regard, and possibly others. But this is the issue that gets them going.
Although one guy wanted to go to England because -- healthcare and no guns. I didn't bother.

I would vote for Paul, Cruz, Perry, Palin and Walker
I would stay home for Huckbaby, Santorum, Bush, Christie.
I don't know enough about Jindal to have an opinion and Ryan/Rubio have taken positions I don't think I can forgive.
I am not sure why Trump's name is even on there.
Ben Carson has unclean hands when it comes to the 2nd amendment, and frankly, I think stuff is likely to show up in his past since he has never run for office before.
But the Republicans having five guys I would be pretty enthusiastic about has to be some sort of record. Maybe Obama has just lowered the standard so far that more people look good by comparison.

No more Clinton, no more Bush!
I'll just sit home on my tush.
If that's the choice, then there's no voice
So fuck it. Don't vote. All out of rhymes.

Ted Cruz is right on the issues, but I find his style incredibly grating and his voice is like nails on a chalkboard. I don't see him having much appeal outside the base.
Palin's speech at CPAC was embarrassing, the sooner conservatives move on from that attention whore the better.

I've pretty much accepted that any candidate running nationwide is going to be to the "left" of me if they actually want to get elected.
The candidates I would have the most problem with is Santorum and Huckabee, just because I think it would put the conservative movement in the wilderness for a long time, maybe a generation as their social conservatism is so over the top.

As for Cruz, he's my favorite Senator, and as VP he'd be in charge of the Senate. I'd like that, too.
