From VA Viper, who has more, including a gallery of some of the Museum's best (worst) pieces, and the backstory on the first piece the Museum collected.

It's pretty funny, and the curator of Bad Art has a good sense of humor. (When asked if the first piece collected by the museum is "priceless," she agrees it is, but then quickly adds that if anyone offers her a million dollars for it, she's selling it.)

Of course, it's going to occur to most people: How is this crap any worse than half of the crap hanging in art galleries?

Via The Corner, which is actually heavy on strange art collections today.

Should We Put Obamacare Advertisements in the Museum of Bad Art? They seem familiar with the ethic promoted by the museum's curator, "the right to fail."

Through its own Solidarity Movement, with only public support but no military interventionism from abroad, Poland successfully broke free of the USSR, a far more formidable sovereign than Putin's Russia. It isn't as if there isn't successful precedence for other nations seeking self determination to plot their means for liberation, given Poland and India for instance, they both going against all odds just as the Americans had vs. Britain in 1776. As for the so-called "Arab Spring"? That was all hype to create chaos where there had been order. Order? Insufferable by what degree. 94 White House pastry chef resigns: ‘I don’t want to demonize cream, butter, sugar and eggs’ White House executive pastry chef Bill Yosses is resigning after First Lady Michelle Obama fundamentally changed his job duties to focus on healthier food. Yosses is leaving the White House in June to work on a new project focusing on “food literacy” and The New York Times says Michelle is “partly to blame.” The openly gay chef was hired by Laura Bush in 2007 to make his trademark cookie plates and sugar sculptures. Mrs. Obama took over in 2009 and ordered Yosses to make healthier plates in smaller portions. Yosses began replacing butter with fruit puree and sugar with honey and agave. But Yosses was never fully committed to the new policy. “I don’t want to demonize cream, butter, sugar and eggs,” Yosses said, noting that his departure from the White House is a “bittersweet decision.” Michelle Obama said in a statement that she is “incredibly sad to see Bill Yosses go.” http://tinyurl.com/kuljndu

inre small penises in sculpture:

Marble shortage.

Kidding.  But actually, much has been said about the small penis on David.  How a sculpture of a physical specimen could be so lacking in the manhood department.

However, consider the setting - he's facing off against Goliath.  And if you look down on David's face from above (in other words, how Goliath would see him), his face looks much different than it does at ground level.  He looks afraid...resolute, but afraid.  And I daresay that fear is what's causing his junk to withdraw.

171 145. Timing is everything. Remember Orwell aka Blair's date for your line, and the state of art heading towards "for art's sake" because it was created to give offense to the viewer, DISTANCING the artist from humanity; as if to prove the "art" above the need to either inspire or to provide (at least) a function. "For its own sake" would bury all great artistry that had the transcendental ability to lift humanity's spirit. Because, god is dead to those who are death.

For some unknown reason, I'd love for Vlad to tweet Powers back,

Fuck off, bitch.

"Seriously, choose Taco Bell."

185 "This is Putin's version of a truce." Costanza Defense, what truce? Obama offers no truce; but promises the "rule of the gun" as Putin mocked. And miserably henpecked "reporting for duty" Kerry, remembering Vietnam, is wringing his hands wondering if he should shoot himself again in order to evade duty in action and get another purple heart from the sidelines. Obama will do a very stoooooopid thing, to be sure since he just can't help himself from being himself. The fool, the fraud, the spiteful hater of America, the guy who never learned his lessons or even bothered attending class. /No wonder he played himself "proud" for showing up in Senate (occasionally) in time to vote: PRESENT! as if that were his crowning glory. Present but unaccounted for: no transcripts for the record./

186 174 If you want to see bad art and pay nothing to so so, go to the graduating students' shows at a nearby art school. Entertainment abounds, particularly when you juxtapose each poseur's "product" with their pretentious "artist's statement". 95+% of it is pure crap, which leads many a parent to think, if not exclaim, "I shelled out thousands of dollars and this shit is all you could do?" BTDT. Posted by: Krebs v Carnot: Epic Battle of the Cycling Stars™ at March 18, 2014 01:55 PM (HsTG ---------------------------------- Well, I enjoy those shows. Yes, the vast majority of it is crap, and pretentious crap at that, but there are some amusing pieces and the occasional gem too. Anyway, as you say, it's free, and if you're smart, you'll go to the grand opening when they have nice refreshments.

189 Where the hell is the UN? Is the UN doing squat, and the media simply not "reporting" UN peacekeeping efforts? The UN was plenty verbal accosting US Presidents prior to the last black president.

Throughout recorded history, most art has been bad or mediocre art at best. We see paintings and sculptures of the old masters because people knew their worth and went to extraordinary lengths to protect and preserve them. That crappy landscape by Whatshisname, on the other hand? Not so much.

So yeah, most artists in any given era are creating crappy art oozing with banality and brimming with mediocrity. That which is forgettable is forgotten--or, like all of that 'priceless' postmodern art bought and stored by Saatchi and Saatchi several years ago, mysteriously burned up in a warehouse fire of indeterminate origin.  The truly good works and the great works, however, go on and on.

I paint and draw what I hope is fine art, and make my living as a commercial artist. I don't have any loftily impossible goals insofar as my art is concerned. I just want to make something worthwhile and (hopefully, ideally) true and beautiful before I die.

Putin is calling the annexation of Crimea a "reunification".  It has sites of importance to Russian history going back 1,000 years and "every one of those sites is holy to us".

The problem is emblematic of the last 20 years, in a multi-polar world everything has become unstable, because the Western partners have a "politics of primitive cynicism in which only the rights of the stronger prevail".  (Really, that's a quote from Putin).

Lots of emotion in the speech, men and women with tears on their faces.  The current borders of the Ukraine were a mistake by Bolshevist Ukrainians ("may God judge them").

Russia had promised to respect the frontiers of Ukraine, but on the condition that Ukraine was a friendly government.  We don't have to partition Ukraine, we are more than neighbors, we are one people.  (Sounds awesomer in the German version, "Ein Volk").

Elsewhere, as noted, it's turned into a shooting war with one dead Ukranian soldier and promises of military resistance from Kiev.

All of the above is paraphrased from FAZ.

As to the tweets of our leaders...we are ruled by very silly people.

Anna?
My city has 2 "authentic" Mexican restaurants-- and their food is very good. Cilantros & el Potro- you can google them.
But I will admit a guilty pleasure- some of Taco Bell's food is not bad, either.

197 189 during the past, until recently, most art was produced by guilds, apprentices then were the equivalent of today's greatest, upholding standards of craftsmanship and artistry. If you were mediocre at best, you didn't "get" to be an apprentice. And the point of apprenticeship? First, to learn all that your master knows and perfect all skills, and then push yourself to become a master, to see/project through physical medium as the master. As for aesthetic stylistic discrimination? Well, each era had it's own. Calling medieval art "less than" Renaissance is a matter of preference, whether the artwork's message were best expressed to which degree of realism (perspective) if indeed mysticism were the subject. /walking the mile in someone else's shoes, to "see" from the same vantage point as that person would/

198 From the description of one of the works:

"A work of undisputed tenderness which places the spiritual above the physical through careful disregard for details of the human form."

Which just dismissed the entire works of Picasso, Chagall, Duchamp...in fact, pretty much all of 20th century art.
