Happy Friday, everyone.

Jeff Bezos, who wisely laughed Ezra Klein out of the Washington Post, says "umm, hey, we weren't kidding about that Amazon.com drone thing."

And speaking of delivery by air, it looks like the A-10 is only mostly dead.

13 Gonna try to make time today to read up on the Nevada Ranch standoff. It sounds like there may be more to it than I was originally told - rancher won't pay gov't to let cattle graze on public land - (imagine that). Sounds like there's a lot of history to this. Lots of people & guns pouring in on both sides. If anybody has anything they want to share, I'm all eyes. And I'll do the same.

36 Just read up on that NV story.  The rancher maintains that the land is State land and not federal land.  It is asserted that the feds just came in and grabbed the land from the State based on a stupid turtle. The rancher says he will pay the State but not the feds and that the actual land has been his since 1870,

38 from what I've been reading the land has been in the ranchers family way before the government took over. They came in, took the land, and then told the rancher he had to pay fees for grazing. The rancher basically said no and they've been fighting for years over this. The information is not all out there yet, but it seems that they took the land to protect a stupid turtle. I for one am glad someone is finally standing up for their rights, but of course he'll be called a nutter, and once again this won't be the hill to die on.

49 The nevada ranch saga is tragic in that we see what the full power of the federal can do to destroy when it wants to destory and sieze what it wants when it wants it. That ranchers family has been working that land since the 1870 long before there was a blm. Grazing rights were handled by a commission and no fees were charged because ranching was seen as a productive use of the land generating jobs and taxes. Fast forward to 1993 the blm took control of the land in dispute, wheather they eminent domained the land form the farmers I don't know but took control they did. Using the endagered species act as cover they sought to protect the desert tortoise. They slapped grazing fees on every head of cattle and severly limited the number of cattle that could graze forcing most ranches in the area into insolvency. Bundy is the last holdout. The feds want that land, the feds will get that land one way or other.

51 If the story turns out to be accurate I'd be pretty damn pissed if I was the rancher too. Imagine your family's been living in a house for several generations, and one day someone finds out there's a special worm that lives in the backyard. Gov comes and says sorry we have to take this house and property because of super special worm, but hey you can still live here, but we're gonna need you to pay rent. I think I'd pretty much tell them to go fuck themselves as well. Maybe not an exact analogy, but shit like this can happen and probably already has. Also, it appears that the rancher has tried to go through the court system, but shockingly they have always sided with the government.

Yes they will.

People  rightfully ridicule spineless politicians with the line "not the hill to die on."  Well, some hills are  not worth literally dying on.

Fight back?  Sure.  But when the guns come out, people are going to die.

Is it worth it?  I can't answer that question for anyone, but I cannot imagine dying for a piece of land, or having to pay a tax, or fine or fee, or putting members of my family at risk of dying over a fine or fee or tax.

The coyotes catch them, we collect the collar and put it on another dirt-dumb chicken for the coyotes to eat. This operation is supported by a seven figure budget extracted from tax payers.

Good news, everyone!:

Deadly H5N1 bird flu needs just 5 mutations to spread easily in people

It’s a flu virus so deadly that scientists once halted research on the disease because governments feared it might be used by terrorists to stage a biological attack. Yet despite the fact that the H5N1 avian influenza has killed 60% of the 650 humans known to be infected since it was identified in Hong Kong 17 years ago, the “bird flu” virus has yet to evolve a means of spreading easily among people.

Now Dutch researchers have found that the virus needs only five favorable gene mutations to become transmissible through coughing or sneezing, like regular flu viruses.

68 The NV rancher story has some twists, but here is what I have gleaned from various sources: The land in question was part of Bunkerville, NV until the fed.gov 'deemed' the land federal because of the desert tortoise. The Endangered Species Act was used to justify the Kelo -style land grab. The rancher's family had bought the water and grazing rights to the land back in the 1880s and those rights were passed down. BLM, however, says the rules have changed and those water and grazing rights no longer belong to them. The corrupt court system agrees with the fed.gov. The fees paid previously were not grazing fees but improvement funds. The fed.gov received the fees and passed them on to Bunkerville until the soup bowl with legs was determined to be 'endangered'. The land improvement fees were then funneled to environmental groups and not used for land improvements any more. This broke a long standing (since the 1930s) agreement. The rancher stopped paying the fees due to this, and offered to pay the state (who actually owned the land in the first place until the great 'deeming'). Oh, and the Searchlight Pederast (known real estate fraud artist) is up to his nasty eyeballs in this. So I support the rancher 100%.

69 Heartbleed Bug New piece at the WSJ: Heartbleed Bug Found in Cisco Routers, Juniper Gear Encryption Bug Affects Equipment That Connects to the Web It specifically says the following were effected: Many websites—including those run by Yahoo Inc., YHOO -4.22% Amazon.com Inc. and Netflix Inc.—quickly fixed the hole after it was disclosed Monday. But Cisco and Juniper said the security flaw affects routers, switches and firewalls often used by businesses. So you can change those pw's. The previous WSJ piece said this: Check site security before changing your password It’s not clear exactly which services were impacted, or what passwords may have been compromised. But if you have an account on Yahoo, OKCupid or Github—three popular sites known to have had the vulnerability (and patched it)—you should change your password on them as soon as possible. Other big Web companies are taking steps to fix the problem. You can check if a service has updated its security by typing in its domain name at https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest. Most of my very important accounts are fine, like banks, assets, etc. But, credit unions and retail outlets are crap so far. (other than Amazon - which is a shining star) For the test link above: If everything’s green, it has probably been fixed and you are clear to change your password. If the site is not in the green, hold off. Changing your password on vulnerable sites would either have no impact, or could potentially expose your new password. Even without Heartbleed, passwords have never been more vulnerable, and you should change them for important accounts every 90 days.

Don't be surprised if selling this land to harry reids son is seen as more productive use of this land than ranching. He's also elbow deep in a chinese solar panel company. 72 So yesterday I was having a conversation with a woman who had been seriously emotionally and spiritually hurt by a "name it and claim it" or what I think of as a "gab it and grab it" theology. I would like to give all the preachers who espouse this type of thing a good shaking. Their faith is in a certain confession or doctrine, or what they think, not in God and they present the entirely non Christian idea of a "no suffering" theology. How erroneous it is to suggest that Christians who confess the word will not be sick or poor or depressed. As Wayne Monbleau of "Loving Grace" Ministries says says, "No matter how hard you try ('I've named it, claimed it, stood on it, rested on it, et"c) "you can't seem to cast the spirit of tribulation out of your life and then you feel frustrated. down on yourself" (as this woman was,) you feel you're out of touch with God's love and figure he's disgusted with you when He actually isn't." This "positive confession" theology is not taught in the New Testament. Paul admits to being sick, Timothy has s stomach ailment, Epaphroditus, had a stomach ailment and is sick unto death because of his Christian service (Phil 2;25-17) Paul himself despairs unto death. He feels so bad he wants to die. God does not blame Paul for being that depressed. He doesn't say "You're not a strong enough believer in Christ." Even great Saints have times where they feel God is not present. That allows us to get rid of formulas and relate to people out of love and compassion because we know where they are coming from. Our roundedness allows us to feel compassion for others. Yes, Christ is with us whatever our circumstances and he certainly doesn't think less of us because we feel like all hell is breaking lose in our lives. May Grace and peace be with you today.

Meanwhile in LA, cops throw another bullet party and mow down two victims of crime.  Prep then found in adjacent room and subdued without that whole shooting thing:

"The door suddenly opened and a man with blood spurting form his neck entered the doorway." Scott said. Winkler also ran out, behind but nearly on top of the other man, authorities said.

Deputies mistook Winkler for the suspect and thought he was continuing to attack the other man, Coleman said. Three deputies fired four shots. Winkler was hit once and mortally wounded. The other man was hit in the leg and was hospitalized in stable condition, authorities said.

------- In my nic is a link to the Conservative Treehouse blog. 87 He doesn't say "You're not a strong enough believer in Christ." Even great Saints have times where they feel God is not present.

In a formal Record of Decision, or ROD, issued February 19, Interior approved two projects on more than six square miles of public land in California and Nevada for the Stateline and Silver State South solar projects, which the Arizona-based firm First Solar wants to build near the Mojave National Preserve south of Las Vegas. They are the 49th and 50th large renewable energy projects approved on public lands during the Obama administration. According to an assessment of the projects released by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 2013, the two projects are expected to displace, injure, or kill up to 2,115 federally Threatened desert tortoises. Most of the mortalities will happen to young tortoises and will likely be killed without even being detected, the agency noted. I am behind Bundy 100 percent. Hope he kicks the fed goons teeth in.

Hell, for the sake of argument, I'll concede that the ranchers are totally in the wrong and the BLM is totally in the right (AHAHAAHA sorry sorry back to conceding). Let us stipulate that.
Why are there armed guards all over the place? Why is the road closed? Why was the son arrested and tased and it looks like beaten up for photographing public servants attempting to execute a public order on public lands? What is going to happen to the cattle? Who, exactly and precisely, decided that "First Amendment Zones" were appropriate? If BLM is executing the order to remove the cattle, why are there contractors doing the actual removal? What was the bid process to obtain the contractors? Who, exactly and precisely, made the determination that armed guards were needed to protect the contractors? When, exactly and precisely, will BLM determine that all the cattle have been rounded up? How, exactly and precisely, does BLM know that the unbranded cattle are those ranchers' cattle? Given that this is a dispute about public lands, the public has a right to know the answers to those questions.

149 “It’s high time for the BLM to do its job and give the [endangered desert] tortoises and the Gold Butte area the protection they need and are legally entitled to,” senior Center for Biological Diversity scientist Rob Mrowka told the Mesquite Local News. “As the tortoises emerge from their winter sleep, they are finding their much-needed food consumed by cattle.” The fix is in: that guy used to run the Enviromental Panning Board for Clark County, while the county drove ranchers out of the area, and before that he was with the forest service. A lifer in the soak-the-taxpayer fight.

Civil Rights Legislation was filibustered mightily by the Democ usual suspects and was primarily moved by Everett Dirksen (R) (Decent Liberal). The legislation sat moribund under Camelot and Johnson took all the accolades for Dirksens' work and the bill passed with a much higher percentage of Republican "yeas" than the Democ usual suspects grumbled "yeas". 167 the irony good God Posted by: artisanal 'ette: The Green Jacket at April 11, 2014 08:39 AM (IXrOn) This happened last year as well - Federal funds for a Nevada-based desert tortoise conservation center are running dry and wildlife officials plan to close the facility and euthanize hundreds of tortoises that were once classified as “endangered” and are currently considered “threatened.” The desert tortoise can be found in the southwestern United States, but its population has been dwindling. In some areas, the tortoise population has decreased by 90 percent since the 1980s, and in the Mojave desert the population is considered “threatened.” It is illegal to touch, harm or harass these animals, and the Desert Tortoise Conservation Center has tried to increase their population ever since they were added to the endangered species list in 1990. Still, only 100,000 desert tortoises are estimated to remain in the wild. But federal funds are running dry at the Las Vegas Valley facility, and rather than release the animals, officials plan to euthanize about half of the 1,400 tortoises. The 220-acre facility will shut its doors in 2014, and the tortoises deemed feeble to survive in the wild will be set free. Many of the tortoises at the center were formerly kept as pets and are unable to survive in the desert.

The "prosperity gospel" isn't the Gospel at all.  It's heresy.
Any teaching that does not apply to Christians in China as well as Christians in America is heresy.  Any teaching that does not apply to Christians in Islam countries is heresy.  Any teaching that does not apply to Christians in Ethiopia, or Nigeria, or Bangladesh is heresy. Demanding that God act as an ATM machine or a Doctor who dispenses Magic Pills is heresy.

Does God prosper His people?  Of course He does.  Does God bless His people?  Of course He does.  According to His purposes, not ours.  And it can be a great blessing to suffer for the cause of Christ.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal energy regulators improperly allowed widespread access to a sensitive document that outlined specific locations where the nation's electric grid is vulnerable to physical threats, a government investigator said Wednesday.

The document created by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission should have been kept secret as a national security matter, Energy Department Inspector General Gregory Friedman said. Instead the information was provided in whole or in part to federal and industry officials in uncontrolled settings.

The Wall Street Journal reported last month that a federal analysis indicated that a coordinated terrorist strike on just nine key electric transmission substations could cause cascading power outages across the country in each of the nation's three synchronized power networks...

I remember when that story came out, and I was thinking,   "WTF?   Why are we hearing about this, FGS?"    I am clearly smarter than the allegedly smart people in the federal gubmint.

Then, after the "Mormon War" US Congress/Administration/Army campaign to halt Polygamy and to assert dominion over the West, Young would subsequently use the US Army for his own purposes, "volunteering" the Mormon Battalion to destroy the Republic of Mexico's hold on Deseret or the Great American Southwest. So, the Feds were actually killing more turtles than the cattle were? I'll bet they get fast and furious over this. Tortoises are maligned by Aesop et al. Watch some in a zoo. True, they don't run, but they're way better movers than a lot of other critters.

261 I'm not against the Louisiana Purchase, really I'm not, but you can see in these land sovereignty issues a pretty good example of Jeffersonian willfulness. Congress, courts and applied precedent didn't have a chance to work out the coming conflicts, because T.J. just had to strike while his iron was hot. Then, "internal improvements." He truly was a Democrat and a Republican at the same time.

A lot of western territory-to-state transitions were real hurry-up jobs, to keep the lid on some hot buttons. Not picking on the West, either:  I'm in the Old Northwest, and that damned Ordinance was one of the great liberal scams of our history.

279 @234 Again, not to recommend getting close, but if you'd ever felt an otter's pelt, you'd be coming up with some new nicknames for You-Know-Where. Mmm.

Turtles, not fucking enough? Again, get you to your zoo. They are the randiest creatures in captivity. Teachers are always herding field trips away from the display.

No, as human experience hath shewn, no amount of fucking makes up for "loss of range." That's why we have Government to intervene. Now your Danes will slaughter their excess giraffes and lions. Makes me wake up in a cold...sauna.

280 73 Posted by: FenelonSpoke at April 11, 2014 08:12 AM (XyM/Y) Fenelon, John Calvin taught that God has predestined most of humanity to Hell and that he displays evidence of those few members of the Elect that He has predestined for heaven by showing them favor on Earth. It is pretty much mainstream Calvinist theology that God hates poor people. If your friend has accepted this faith, the logical conclusion for her is that she is a reprobate and that her current problems are merely an indication that she will spend eternity in Hell suffering far worse torments than the ones that are vexing her now.

281 Horrible story about that crash between a FedEx truck and a bus   out in   Cali.   Ten people dead, five of them students.

LA Times:  http://tinyurl.com/obxdk3l

ORLAND, Calif. -- The death toll in a head-on collision between a FedEx truck and a bus full of Los Angeles-area high school students rose to 10 early Friday, officials said.

The victims included five students, three adult chaperons, the driver of the truck and the driver of the bus, a California Highway Patrol dispatcher told The Times.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m. Thursday, the FedEx truck crossed the grassy median that separates Interstate 5 here and slammed into the bus packed with students en route to visit Humboldt State University, about 200 miles north of the crash site.

The impact, which witnesses said sounded like a series of explosions, caused both vehicles to burst into flames. The fireball and towering black smoke were captured by the cellphone cameras of others in nearby cars.

Dorsey Griffith, a spokeswoman for UC Davis Medical Center, said one patient who was admitted to the burn unit died late Thursday night. The CHP dispatcher confirmed the 10th fatality occurred at the medical center.

Several other patients remained in critical condition at area hospitals. Griffith said another patient admitted into the medical center was in critical condition as of about 3 a.m...

Government is desperate for money, they're going to go on a tear to find all sorts of fees and what have you to charge any producer they can. And this trickles down to the not-producers too. Aside for the $225 in cost added to each cow, every herder that goes out of business drives up the cost of beef. To a LIV though it'll all start so reasonably with "we just wanted to prevent overgrazing." 283 A lot of western territory-to-state transitions were real hurry-up jobs, to keep the lid on some hot buttons. Yeah, like those two filthy Scandi-infested incestuous twins "North" and "South" Dakota. If cartographers had any sense of decency, the two of them would be covered over with black bars on maps, just as used to be done for perps' eyes in crime photographs.

285 Levin shining truth on LBJ's legacy (everybody from Texas knew what a corrupt, evil, machine politician he was) puts in perspective who the real Uncle Toms are. The blacks who joined the dems in an ideology that was purposefully from the very beginning specifically designed to keep as many blacks as possible relegated to the lower strata of our society, were the real foremen for the plantation owners.

288 Has anyone heard if there is official info coming out of that ranch? If I was with the militias there I would be setting up a huge perimeter of webcams, live-streaming the BLM radio chatter from a scanner and sending out press releases ever hour on the hour to every social media outlet on the net. A patrol drone with a camera would be a nice 2014 touch, IMHO. The media will spin this in favor of the gov't. Getting word out through other means, and thoroughly, is key... it will definitely become a PR battle the longer it goes on- pre and post firefight.

291 In this part of Nevada, however, I bet long grass is few and far between. Posted by: ScoggDog at April 11, 2014 09:13 AM (nv0XF) Yes, grazing is the natural phenomena of herbivores. And yes, cattle are less destructive than sheep and goats that immediately pull the plant out by the root to consume. But cattle are also "fed" feed. The issue of WATER and water rights is at play. Where agricultural and ranching have precedence 1st serve is rapidly being altered to suit speculative developers investments, building out where there is no available water for new suburbs. And cities/counties/States have NOT addressed the assbackwards approach. Prior to development, infrastructure! Build more reservoires PRIOR to developing land. Why should Las Vegas get all of Nevada's water and first rights to utilities when it is a late comer to existence? Right, grifter politicians.

297 No new post yet? Here, let me try. Relating to divine munificence theology... § When you spend your whole life willing to do the Lord's Will, and all the rest, yet end up with every effort failed, everything ruined, hope seemingly lost. even for that which you thought counted most to Our Father, like family... and you wonder, WTF, God?... ...there always comes that image of Jesus, in the Garden, all his efforts reaching ruin, about to be betrayed, his flock to be scattered, his body tortured and killed, his nation soon to be dispersed, his beloved tribe abhored for millennia, asking, Father, can this cup pass? His defeat became the greatest opportunity to demonstrate God's love, as we saw, to bring the Word to the whole world, so, the answer about the cup was, no. You know why we know about Jesus' struggle in the Garden that night? Only because, while his adult apostles snoozed, a young man hid in the bushes and stayed close to his beloved Lord that night. Thank you, John Mark! § That do it?

298 Want to prevent overgrazing? Open more land to allow more rotation, and fallow period REPLANT the native grasses. Rain water collection/irrigation would help cultivate the native grasses in at least some fields.

299 If the confrontation in Nevada escalates and results in any bloodshed to a federal officer, then there will be terrible consequences. Remember in the immediate aftermath of the OK City bombing staffers in the White House were jubilant that the incident 'guaranteed Clinton's reelection.' The militia movements that had sprung up in the early years of his term lost the public favor they had, and they lost it quickly. People tend to rally to the government when there is trouble, rightly or wrongly. Dictators throughout history have used this to consolidate their power. But, hey, we'll have the news media to explain everything to the public and make it right....

303 This dispute between the rancher and the Feds in Nevada once more demonstrates an opportunity for the Republicans to distribute federal government owned land in 40 acre lots as Slavery Reparations. The new black owners of the empty desert can then lease it to ranchers, sell it to ranchers, keep it empty and receive no money while paying taxes on it to protect some turtles, contract with drillers to explore for oil and natural gas or build solar energy developments on it. When Harry Reid and his spawn come trying to steal the land, they will have a somewhat more problematic political situation if they are seen as trying to snatch away the product of long delayed justice and just the latest oppressor trying to rob black people of their birthright.

305 I can tell you, from being drug into a lawsuit with WA DNR, that it will do the rancher no good to take this to court. The judge will not hear any evidence or even bother to try. They will immediately side with the government and pretty much give them free rein. WA state law allows upland property owners to have a dock. I've been denied one for no reason and have fewer rights as a property owner than the folks that lease the river front. And I was not even involved in the lease. I purchased the land long afterwards. You cannot win against the government when they own the courts.
