An Open Letter

To: Saturday Night Live

So here is a story about one of the founds of Black Lives Matter, Patrisse Khan-Cullors, has made some rather eye-opening real estate purchases. Apparently, she
...went on a real estate buying binge, snagging four high-end homes for $3.2 million in the US alone, according to property records.

[She] also eyed property in the Bahamas at an ultra-exclusive resort where Justin Timberlake and Tiger Woods both have homes...Luxury apartments and townhouses at the beachfront Albany resort outside Nassau are priced between $5 million and $20 million, according to a local agent.

[She also] last month purchased a $1.4 million home on a secluded road a short drive from Malibu in Los Angeles, according to a report...The Topanga Canyon homestead, which includes two houses on a quarter-acre, is just one of three homes Khan-Cullors owns in the Los Angeles area, public records show.
You guys do political comedy, right? You guys like going after the rich and famous, right? You guys pride yourself on speaking truth to power, right? Well then, I can't figure out why none of you have yet to mention this. I mean, just look at it: a social justice activist, a self-described Marxist, has just spent millions of dollars on real estate, and not only that, most of them are in neighborhoods you guys would no doubt describe as "lily-white" if the buyer here was, say, Tucker Carlson or Ivanka Trump.

This a double bacon cheeseburger of hypocrisy here. While claiming to be all about social justice and against oppression, when presented with the opportunity, Khan-Cullors chooses to spend her money just like the oppressor class.

Isn't that rich? I mean, SHE'S certainly rich. But the situation she has put herself in, how ripe for comedy is that? Of course, BLM denies that they're paying her any kind of a salary, which makes you wonder where she's getting her money from, but that's something for another day. The point is, can't you see what you've got here? This is not a big, fat, slow hanging curve ball lazily drifting across the plate with a "HIT ME!" sticky-note attached to it, it's even better. It's a big plastic whiffle ball propped up in one of those T-ball stands, not moving, just sitting there, all fat and juicy, waiting for one of your writers to step right up and knock it out of the park.

Because you're all about showing how stunning and brave you are, right? Bold, fearless comedy that challenges dominant power structures and subverts our expectations, right? Oh, and I almost forgot, transgresses traditional boundaries. Did I do that right? I don't speak the language naturally, but hopefully this makes sense.

So I can't wait to see what you do with this, as pulling the rug out from wealthy, privileged, hypocritical entitled loudmouths is what you like to do. Because, as her real estate buying binge shows, it would be harder to find a more wealthy, privileged, hypocritical entitled loudmouth than Ms. Patrisse Khan-Cullors.

Prayer Requests:

12/12 – Katya, the designated driver sends an update that she was in the ER with shortness of breath last weekend, and has found she has a blood clot in her lung now. The blood thinner she was on for the clot in her leg wasn’t doing the job, so she is giving herself injections twice a day of enoxaparin sodium. She feels good, mostly. She sends her thanks for prayers and support through her chemo treatments.

2/16 Update – Katya sent word that her surgery went great, but she’s had some issues since then. (The blood thinner medication for blood clots caused low blood pressure. Then she was losing blood, which caused dizziness and confusion. She got 4 units of blood, so that seems to be getting better. Her pneumonia and chemo have not helped with all of this, but it is getting better.) The surgeon thinks they got 99% of the cancer during surgery. And she is so happy that the surgery is over!

3/2 Update – Katya says she is healing well now, and things are back on track with her treatment.

3/23 Update – Katya continues to heal well from the mastectomy. She still is dealing with pneumonia, but has oxygen at home, which is helping, and she will see a pulmonologist on 3/31. She will start 6 weeks of radiation therapy on Thursday (3/25).

3/29 Update – Katya’s incisions have separated in several spots, so she cannot proceed with radiation until they are healed. Her new date to begin is April 8.

2/19 – Pooky’s Girl requests prayers for Pooky, as he is going to have surgery to correct his deviated septum on 3/9. She is praying that the anesthesia works (he’s had problems with that in the past) and that it helps him breathe better and in turn helps his mental state.

3/16 Update – Pooky’s surgery went very well! He’s now adjusting to being able to really breathe for the first time in years. Pooky and Pooky’s Girl are very thankful for the many prayers sent on their behalf.

 3/3 – FenelonSpoke also passed along a prayer request for Farmer mentioned the other night that his wife Jules's mother was near death in hospice so they need strength and comfort and a peaceful passing of his MIL who has been in hospice for about five months.

 3/10 – Ladyl requests prayers for her friend Teresa, who is getting a bone marrow transplant for multiple myeloma on 3/11.

 3/16 – Pollywog the ‘Ette requests prayers for "Thing From Snowy Mountain”. He sends thanks for the prayers for his mother’s recovery from Covid, and for him as he struggled against the people who wanted her to be left to die. Now he needs wisdom, strength, favor as he negotiates the bureaucracy that almost killed his Mom, and for financial provision to care for her.

 3/24 – Cranford Pundit requests prayers for his long-time coworker and friend Pete, who was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer that spread to his liver. His cancer inoperable, but they are starting aggressive chemo the week of 3/29. While he will not be cured, please pray for the quality of his life, wisdom for him and for his wife, and for their two elementary-school-age children.

 3/31 – Roxxee requests prayers for her daughter. She was on our prayer list at Christmastime, as she was in a deep psychosis then, but she did get treatment and was improving. Now she is backsliding again and has quit her job (which will cause her to lose her insurance). She will not listen to her doctors or Roxxee, and as she is an adult, there is nothing they can do. Roxxee requests prayers for her daughter to realize that her life is spinning out of control and she needs help, and for strength and peace for herself as she tries to cope.

4/5 – Captain Whitebread asks for prayers of healing for his sister, who has been diagnosed with diastolic heart failure, and prayers for strength for her and those who depend on her: her Mom (who is retired), her adult son (who is autistic and cannot work), her grand-niece who she is raising.


For Healing:

3/3 – FenelonSpoke requested prayers on Backwards Boy’s behalf. Backwards Gal is very ill and he doesn't think she'll live through the year. So prayers for a miracle of healing andthat God surrounds them with grace and strength in whatever ways are needed.

 3/3 – FenelonSpoke requested prayers for .....(ellipsis), who has been sick since the winter of 2020 and needs healing).

4/3 – My life is insanity asks for prayers for peace of mind and healing for her sister, who just learned that her breast cancer from 6 years ago has spread to her spine. She has a small tumor at the base of her neck and a fracture in her lower back. She is waiting on a treatment plan and is unsure at this time what that will bring.

 4/12 – Slapweasel requests prayers for Jonathan the Bear, for his upcoming surgery, and for strength and recovery.

10 I could never watch The Office -- I'm an office manager, and I hated how they made Carell's character look like a doofus.  But Carell was the absolute best modern choice to play Uncle Arthur in Bewitched with Nicole Kidman, and from what I saw he handled the role of Maxwell Smart pretty well.  He's also talented at dramatic roles.

20 Anne Hathaway is always easy to identify, she's got Anime features.  Gorgeous girl though.

I grew up that kind of poor.  We had several Christmases where we didn't have money for gifts.  We had a tree with notes on it we wrote; things we'd do for each other all year long.  I think I liked that kind of Christmas best of all.  I wore the same shirt my oldest brother 8 years older than I wore at that age.  No matter how much you think it is overcharged to fix your electronic equipment... the guys doing the labor didn't get paid crap.

Never saw "Get Smart!" because I never thought the original series ws funny.  I got more laughs out of Don Adams' show "Don Adams' Screen Test" than in a dozen "Get Smart!"s

And the race card is thrown again.  Another day that ends in "Y."

Most of modern comedic actors are just not very funny.  I watched all of Pineapple Express and didn't laugh a single time.  It sucked, in fact, lousy movie.  I mean, Jim Carrey was over the top mugging but he could be hilarious at least.  Will Farrel is just... annoying in nearly everything.

Especially someone almost no one has even heard of. As long as he can act through it, it's not a huge problem, but it is a curious choice. I imagine it was probably Carrell's choice. It seems like an actor thing for a role like that. The guy wasn't exactly the Elephant Man.

I couldn't watch The Office because the people were too mean to each other. At the time it was popular, I was in a place in my life where people being mean to each other just wasn't funny. (As you might suspect, I did not watch hardly any television at that time!)

Stoner humor is the worst humor. People love to bash Adam Sandler comedies, which are clearly excuses to take all his friends to an exotic locations to have fun, but so much of the Seth Rogan and other younger comedians' movies are similar in their (lack of ambition). Let's play stomers, who get stoned, and then so stupid sh#t. . . yeah, that's a winner!

I finally got to see most of the film on TV.  They made Maxwell Smart a researcher who gets drafted to be a spy, under the tutelage of course of a woman, in this case Hathaway's Agent 99.  The plot seemed far too semi-realistic, in comparison with the loony little world the original TV series set up (which is why that show worked so well).

Last night I watched Jim Jarmusch's zombie flick The Dead Don't Die. Shitty zombie movie, by the way. Plus, it's just a shitty movie, although the stuff where Bill Murray and Adam Driver break the 4th wall talking about the script is legitimately amusing.

But the thing that struck me about it is the utter contempt Jarmusch shows for rural America in the film. Luckily, I pulled it off of teh torrentz so I didn't put any money in the fucker's pocket.

In the middle of all the funny was a gentle critique of that lifestyle and behavior, something many viewers did not grasp when the show ended with them in prison for being huge aholes.  It was the perfect ending for the show, and Jerry Seinfeld's point all along.

I thought Murphy's take on Bill calling him was seriously funny. but yeah, in general they are foul to be foul. 
the point of swearing is emphasis, NOT swearing. a perfectly timed swear word can kill. repetitive use deadens it and can kill the joke.

And that's why I don't like it.  Because its all of Seinfeld, but without Jerry's gentle philosophical bend, showing how its actually bad and wrong to be that way, and with some kindness and pleasantness mixed in.  IASIP is just relentlessly awful and soulless, its cruel and treacherous just to be so.  Its like an acid for your soul, like films such as Requiem for a Dream: horrible for the sake of being horrible and that leave you worse for having seen it.

Although in all seriousness, sometimes the most attractive people to some can also be the most repellent to others. People are attracted to types, and some of the best looking people in film can attract very strong negative reactions as well. Por ejemplo, I find Claudia Black very attractive, but a lot of folks can't get past her rather prominent nose.

I finally got to see most of the film on TV.  They made Maxwell Smart a researcher who gets drafted to be a spy, under the tutelage of course of a woman, in this case Hathaway's Agent 99.  The plot seemed far too semi-realistic, in comparison with the loony little world the original TV series set up (which is why that show worked so well).

300 Anne Hathaway once co-hosted the Oscars many years back.  It was apparently not well-received.  However, one part I do remember (and can't seem to find video of) was the opening montage, which played clips from the nominated movies with James Franco and Anne Hathaway digitally inserted into the scene.
One of the scenes was from The King's Speech, and they had Anne wink at Colin Firth, and I tell you what, every guy on the planet would wish for a lady to throw him a wink like that.

396 I really enjoyed Angelina Jolie's turns as Laura Croft, she was a very entertaining, likable heroine that never lost her femininity.  The first movie was pretty well written, too.  The second felt lost and slow, but she was good in them.

I will admit, I like the older action movies, Stallone, Ahnold, Van Damme.....Cheesy but entertaining.  The OLD slapstick style comedies.  Airplane!, Top Secret, Hot Shots, Naked Gun.

I liked American Sniper (the last movie I've seen in a theater) and sometimes I'll sit through something with the wife that isn't bad, but not good enough for me to remember the name.

Back when this shit started up in the streets last summer and before they had all their info about being avowed marxists taken down, I couldn't help but notice all the heads of BLM are female.

He said there was nothing on their site addressing the fact of the absent Black father, the issue most devastating to AA families. This was at one of Candace Owens' college events.
