— Ace Interesting.
The founder of the conservative media company Newsmax is planning to launch a cable TV network to compete with Fox News, but not quite the same. Christopher Ruddy wants to launch Newsmax TV later this year, and is billing it as a “kinder, gentler Fox” that will be “more information-based rather than being vituperative and polarizing.”Bloomberg Businessweek’s profile of Ruddy notes that he himself isn’t a Republican and is “more moderate” than you might expect from the head of Newsmax. But Ruddy thinks there’s room in the cable landscape for a conservative competitor to Fox News, which hasn’t been done effectively to date.
It's a good idea. Fox would benefit from some competition, in terms of quality, though of course not in terms of ratings.
As far as Newsmax's suggestion they'd be a "kinder, gentler" Fox, I take that largely as brand differentiation, seizing upon Fox's perceived weakness (or at least its weakness as divined by critics). I'm not sure how serious they are about that.* End of the day, controversy and argument seems to be good for ratings.
Beck's Blaze TV, a commenter tells me, is being picked up by cable stations, too.
But I think this is for the good. More voices, not fewer. In addition, any Fox competitor would actually help to mainstream the idea of actually reporting fairly on conservative positions -- right now Fox is essentially ghettoized, by being all alone in offering a fair take where conservatives are more than props or punchlines. Multiple stations with the same basic mission takes them all out of the ghetto.
* Hmm: If "kinder, gentler" is a code for female-skewing, that would be a more interesting attempt at brand differentiation. Conservative-leaning women are probably an underserved market, as conservative media, generally, skews male in tone.
At least it seems that way to me.
For example: Why hasn't Fox launched a "View" clone? (Or have they already and I just didn't know about it?)
Every other channel has a View clone. Why not Fox?

If you turn on the channel, a little screen will pop-up in the corner showing something entirely different. On autoplay.

In my mind Newsmax already has a strike against them by perpetuating the leftist narrative of what Fox is. It is time we stop accepting that not choosing to use force through the application of more government to solve every problem constitutes something other than the kindest and gentlest of all political views. A kinder and gentler Fox to me means Newsmax has swallowed the assumptions of the left and will not be challenging the status quo.
Hopefully it is more marketing than fact.

I don't know. One of the arguments for small-c conservatism is that everyone wants the same kind of things, at a basic level. You know, like they want their kids to do well and etc. If its divvied male vs. female, how conservative is it, as an approach I mean?

Way back when, I worked as a poolboy at the local club. One day, someone brought in a dirty book, and the woman who ran the snack bar (and who had a boyfriend in jail) decided to read it during lunch. We adolescent males decided to see how she reacted, so we peered around the corner, and sure enough, she was sitting in a chair in the back with her leg crossed and going up and down at what had to have been 10 Hz.
Good times and fond memories.

With a couple of exceptions, Fox isn't vitriolic at all in their partisanship, and never on the level of any of MSNBC's commentators. Simply put, Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) have an interest in portraying conservative politicians and media outlets as being batsh*t insane and are remarkably good at absolutely convincing their audience that this is universally the case. Regardless of content, any news network that openly identifies as conservative is going to get this treatment regardless.
IMO, if there's a market niche anywhere for conservative TV news, it's not trying to carve out some little market share in between Fox and CNN, it's for a full bore, MSNBC-style right wing network for folks that don't think Fox goes far enough in criticizing Obama and Democrats. Of course it'd take about a week of programming before the Southern Law Poverty Center listed them as a hate group, but that'd probably just add to their appeal.

To me it would make more sense/be more productive to launch a show for "moms at home" and give it a casually conservative editorial bent than launch an explicitly "conservative women's show." Non-conservative women will not watch "explicitily conservative" but both groups will watch "good content with a subtle conservative underpinning.
Same as Glenn Reynolds idea to have a conservative consortium buy a Women's Day type magazine, really.

That will never work.
The left is strongly hierarchical so MSNBC gets their marching orders and push the official version of reality that liberals will then believe in.
Conservatives are too independent and wouldn't put up with it.
Hell look at Rove's antics. If he were a Democrat he would be in a position similiar to see a Soros - setting the agenda for the movement and the party, but Rove can only pull rank in the latter...

Really, I can't imagine the average woman (even LIVs) cares about lefty causes as much as that group.
***
Part of the way the left works is by eliminating the idea that politics and ideology are separate from anything else.
So a conservative can talk about art, history, pop culture, etc...but a committed liberal will always, always include political elements in everything. It does put people off who don't care a bit...but it affects their world view.
Suppose you are a LIV and you don't care about politics. You go to ESPN and read that conservatives sucks. You go watch a move with your friends and conservatives are portrayed as Hitler. You listen to the latest college rock hit and hear conservatives are H8ters. After a while you absorb this because where do you hear anything else?

The left handles this by claiming that reality is malleable. So it isn't that Obama's economic policies have failed, the issue is that enough people don't believe they will succeed and so they don't.
In this case the issue, to the left, isn't that the reporter submitted a misleading picture...he took an accurate picture because in his mind these kids are just like NAZIs even if they share nothing with the actual real world National Socialists because they are in an organization opposed to gay scouts...
We should laugh at them for this, and did for a bit in the early 00s, but conservatives have largely given them a pass since then.

Ruddy describes himself as “not as far to the right” as Fox’s Ailes. “You want to help people … but you also want to make sure it doesn’t create a cycle of dependency,” he says. He favors preserving Social Security and Medicare, extending unemployment benefits, raising the minimum wage, reforming immigration, even forgiving student loans.
In a recent Newsmax editorial lambasting Rand Paul for dredging up the Monica Lewinsky affair, he wrote, “As one of the participants in those battles back then who was a critic of President Clinton, I can say with some degree of certainty we made a mistake.”

That is the right idea. A real conservative news channel would take a good chunk out of Fox News. Fox ain't conservative, it is middle of the road. It just looks conservative compared to the lefty CNNs, MSNBCs, ABCs, CBSs etc. People with conservative leanings watch Fox because it is the least offensive to them compared with the other choices. Just like they tend to give Republicans their vote as opposed to the Democratic Socialist Party.

No one gets rewarded for producing better educated children.
However, if you do produce a system you can't get to be broadly adopted that is a different story.
Since that is the reward structure, that is what the American educational system produces.
If you paid teachers based on the success of their students the problem would quickly resolve itself.

Sponsors: Mossberg Shotguns, Jack Link and Hooter'sÂ….
Heh. Beck's TV ads are from Cheaper than Dirt, Lenny's Glock Store and Henry Repeating Arms. He also airs gun shows.
Re wimmins, Dana Loesch is already on The Blaze staff. Her show is on right now as a matter of fact.
Beck's TV show is WELL worth the $5/month subscription I pay to watch it on ROKU. (I got to keep the low rate 'cause I subscribed from the get-go.) In the past couple weeks he has interviewed the Google guys, Malcolm Gladwell and one of the authors of "Disinformation."
Ex-FOXian Laurie Dhue does all the evening news cut-ins between his show, a roundtable news panel of younger commentators, and Wilkow.
Every Wednesday evening Laurie Dhue hosts the Blaze version of 60 Minutes (For the Record), and ex-CIA analyst Buck Sexton just started a new investigative show. The first one was on the outrageous nationwide police "practice" of civil forfeiture, AKA legalized extortion.

75% of what is on there is 1950-60's family programming.
Shows with strong families, and fathers who are not idiots.
Westerns with guns, dead people and a moral to every story.

Surprised it took this long. The conservative market or at least less lefty market is pretty big.

Argh -- Friday Fade. Forgot Rand is from Kentucky. "Paul" and "Texas" synapses fired in sequence by reflex.

A roomful of guys are trying to locate the clitoris.
We've got it narrowed down to the nape of the neck and the fine jewelry case at Tiffany's.

As an uninformed goofball, I thought The Fed was when Paul Volcker came out, (like The Groundhog), and announced six more weeks of higher interest rates. I didn't care, but Dad told me it was time to open a Savings Account.
It wasn't until I learned what The Federal Reserve actually did, until I asked more questions. "Common Sense" questions that I ran into because I felt dumb.
-Why are the banks disappearing?
-What is a Credit Union?
-What are the ratios between now and Wilson, FDR, Nixon and Reagan?
-Why does beef cost an Arm and a Leg?
I figured out that there was no "Magic" behind a rue. Fat + Flour + Cooking = Step One. Adding liquid = Step Two.
Step-by-step, I learned about sauces and The Fed.
-Meat and the economy.
-Flavor profiles and credit/debt.
-Spices & herbs and Austrians & Keyensians.
-Baking and savings.
-Grilling and selling-short.
...you get it. These are awkward comparisons, but you get it.
Sometimes, "Thirty-Minute Meals" take an hour. Take your time. Rachel Ray and Glenn Beck can be equally annoying. They both parlayed their "styles" into bigger and better things.
In the end, you're not beaten over the head and you no longer think that something is "Beyond Your Grasp".

I dunno, I always thought "The Five" was sorta Fox's version of it.

Those women are too busy to do yet another thing, I imagine, but it would be great. Anyone else get the sense that the View has been hurting since Hasslebeck left? Current events gabbing is boring without contrast; that show needs another conservative, hence trotting out awesome guests like MKH and Loech was smart.
A right leaning View would be a perfect way to sneak attack libs with families, if they stumble across it. Throw out a libertarian/conservative viewpoint, I think they'd agree more than disagree, it would be a good surprise for them. Also showcase a conservative female comedian or two, the anti whoopis and behars. Though according to Adam Carolla women can't be as funny, they could try!

Parrots the party line,
Enamored with Mooche's lunchtime kiddie thang.
She is so fake and artificially bubbly. I almost shot my TV.
Spare your eyes.
