Ralph Peters on Obama: "He Does Not Believe in This Country"
Devastating because it's true.
The problem with being a post-national president of your country is that you end up always losing out to actual leaders who do believe in their nations.
Look, the bottom line on this is Russia has a real leader. You may not like him, and I don't, but he is brilliant and ruthless, he has clear goals and he moves straight toward those goals. The West lacks a leader. Like it or not, the president of the United States is the de facto leader of the West, and our president just is - he's incapable and unwilling to lead. The weakness is phenomenal. Now, you know, we are not weaker than we were in the Carter years. I was in that military, it was pathetic. Our military today is the best in the world, best in our history, although Obama wants to dismantle it. We're also immensely wealthier than the Carter years. The problem is, that as a president Obama is far weaker than Carter, and he's probably the worst president we've ever had.
He is a man who's incapable of making a hard decision. And by the way, one other key point, Vladimir Putin believes in Russia. He believes in Russia's destiny, its mission. Obama does not believe in American exceptionalism. He does not believe in this country.
The Obama Way: If He Believes It, It Must Be So
When it comes to Iran, Obama shows an attitude that can only be described as solipsistic: what's in his mind is reality. And any other reality is just plain silly....It's pretty obvious to all analysts that Iran does not fear an American military strike much these days, especially after Mr. Obama's failure to act in Syria last summer. But Obama denies it, referring to himself in the third person as someone "who has shown himself willing to take military action." Drones, sure; a quick raid as well. But in Libya and Syria, he showed himself extremely reluctant to take military action. Remember "leading from behind?" If he genuinely thinks he is viewed as a scary guy with his finger near the trigger, we all have a problem.
...This is the Obama who said of his own nomination that "this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal." If he believes it, it must be so. The Goldberg interview reveals that five years in, nothing has changed.
Sowell on Reality vs the Intelligentsia
The front page of a local newspaper in northern California featured the headline "The Promise Denied," lamenting the under-representation of women in computer engineering. The continuation of this long article on an inside page had the headline, "Who is to blame for this?"
In other words, the fact that reality does not match the preconceptions of the intelligentsia shows that there is something wrong with reality, for which somebody must be blamed. Apparently their preconceptions cannot be wrong.
We want the world to solve its own problems for a while. The problem is that all this - invasions, wholesale slaughter, ethnic cleansing, missile tests, naval provocations, and raw brutality - is how the world beyond our borders solves its own problems.
"Let the world solve its own problems for a while!" Oh, it does, my friends. It does. http://t.co/u95PutVyTM pic.twitter.com/7jgwhmT4Ok

Bad Idea #27: Borrowers Taking Out Student Loans for Personal Expenses
And unlike stores, banks, and credit card companies universities will never ever have to take a hit for enabling this kind of insane borrowing.
Take Ray Selent, a 30-year-old former retail clerk in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He was unemployed in 2012 when he enrolled as a part-time student at Broward County's community college. That allowed him to borrow thousands of dollars to pay rent to his mother, cover his cellphone bill and catch the occasional movie.
"The only way I feel I can survive financially is by going back to school and putting myself in more student debt," says Mr. Selent, who has since added $8,000 in student debt from living expenses. Returning to school also gave Mr. Selent a reprieve on the $400 a month he owed from previous student debt because the federal government doesn't require payments while borrowers are in school. [...]
Because everyone knows that unlike us modern superior types no one ever drank plain water in ye old ancient times.
There is no specific reason then to believe that people of the time drank proportionately less water than we do today; rather, since water was not typically sold, transported, taxed, etc., there simply would have been no reason to record its use. Did people in the time prefer alcoholic drinks? Probably, and for the same reason most people today drink liquids other than water: variety and flavor. A young man in a tenth century Saxon colloquy is asked what he drinks and answers: "Beer if I have it or water if I have no beer." This is a clear expression of both being comfortable with water and preferring beer.
15 Things You Might Not Know About This Is Spinal Tap
Including the fact that Ozzy Osbourne thought it was an actual documentary about a band he hadn't heard of and the fact that it goes to 11 on IMDB.

New World Disorder
Everyone around the globe lamented how awful it was to see men, women, and children choking to death from poison gas, but nobody was all that eager to do much about it.
Likewise, everyone around the globe can see what Obama is doing to the United states but nobody seems to know what to do about it. Half the voters in the US seem to want what Obama is selling. So the other half wait for the clock to tick down to January 2017 to see what happens next, giving Obama another three years to do whatever he wants while we stand around with our hands in our pockets watching, and waiting for the game clock to run out.

Seriously, though...Col. Ralph Peters is being far too kind in that quote above.
Barky set out to FUBAR this country.
That is his main mission, and everything he's done is with that mission in mind.
He said "Fundamentally Transform this country".
Well that translates to FUBAR.

Judi Dench was mostly naked in the 1968 movie 'Midsummer Night's Dream'.
She had a few strategically placed flowers on...and that's it.
I was flipping channels one night, and started watching it.
There was this naked blonde dancing around, and I thought to myself:
"She looks familiar"
So I looked it up on IMDb....and shit, that was Judi Dench!
She was a hottie back then.

private bank lending is a very small portion of the problem (and mostly used for private and online programs of varying quality-ITT is in trouble with their private label lending). and yes, the federal financial aid program goes through the school student accounts-student account is paid first, then the overage is forwarded to the student.

My forebears sailed here from Europe in the 1860's and 1920's respectively (father's side/mother's side). It wasn't for the welfare, it was to be able to scale Maslow's hierarchy of needs as they saw fit (of course, within reason). My Ukraine-born, maternal grandfather enlisted in the Illinois Reserve militia during WWII at the age of 34, with 2 kids -- when 34 was more akin to 44 -- and he was only 5'4 and had flat feet. I have a photograph of him. You never saw a prouder man! They mustered him out on what would later become my birthday, 8 months later -- they didn't need short, 36 y.o. fathers (unlike the Nazis). Doesn't matter. He offered to serve and would have done so with all his heart. That's someone who loves America. He loved it so much, he stopped speaking German after he emigrated here.
Thanks Poppa. You were a *great* grandfather.

I've been trying to get into Prime Suspect but one of the problems I have with it besides the contrived storylines is the close ups of Mirren. I don't know what it is with British TV that they have to the whole face fill up the screen. For being around fifty she was still a good looking women (still is) but I don't need to see every mole and detail of her face that close.

Anyway, even in 1993 it was pointed out that since Roe in '72 (?), the point of fetal viability has become earlier and earlier -- and people know that. Even many (most?) pro-choicers don't want viable fetuses killed. That's why the left is against even free ultrasounds to reveal the development of the baby. Roe is essentially a fossil. It's much like the 1973 Supreme Court case holding that a male-only draft was not unconstitutional. It relied very much on 1960's morays about womens' roles in society.

Doing that knocks the shit out of you. I must have gutted dozens and dozens of plaster rooms when I worked doing renovations. You couldn't win. I don't know what was worse, the plaster with the wood lath under it or the rock lath with the frigging wire lath in the corners. The dust was epic.

Debts that are NOT dischargeable under bankruptcy, I learned (as I recall):
- Debt to the IRS or state tax collection agencies (duh)
- Student loan debt
- Board of Equalization debt
However, I did learn that if you owned a failed business and want to skip out on paying your former employees for their last two weeks of work, that *is* dischargeable. I typed up the paperwork on that one myself, though I was angry my firm was representing the asshole.
And yes... even though federal/state/business tax debt is nondischaregeable, even *that* has more wiggle room than student debt. I was surprised how often the IRS would accept deals for, say, anywhere from 10 to 60 cents on the dollar from bankruptcy judges, but those were Chapter 13 cases (debt reorganization, vs Chapter 7 which is full-out debt forgiveness).

I used to hold the hammer flat and hit the walls all over. It would usually loosen up huge sections of wall and the shit would just fall off. I have seen walls where the plaster was an easy 2-3" thick in places, because the framers in the old houses left it up to the plaster dudes to make the walls straight. The best part is how there are usually missing corners. One side of the corner would have a 2X4, and the other side of the corner would just have the lath, so the plaster dude even had to make the frigging corners. I learned how to do plaster years ago from an old italian dude. Its a dying art. I have mixed feelings about that. lol

Not surprising. It would cost a king's ransom to build houses the way they used to. I did 90% of my work in the old houses built during roughly the 1870s up to around 1930 period. My main thing was reproducing all the old trim work. That shit was insane, a lot of the houses had doors and trim made from solid walnut. You could never afford to build a house like that these days. You would go broke after 1 room.

If you went back in time, you'd find that Mia Farrow had a "reputation" and not a good one. She threw away a career, was a psycho bitch from hell and bounced from famous person to famous person until everyone got tired of her and she had to stick with one and it wound up to be the professional schlemiel, Woody Allen.
I would bet that some of those guys experienced a "Fatal Attraction" moment or two with her.

I'll go with the era I became of age the '60's and say:
Lyndon Baines Johnson.
So much of our twisted and screwed up situation can be traced to a point that began during his administration and with his cynical manipulation of the country. And who then didn't have the guts to stand and take the rejection but quit early so as to leave the country without closure because he quit for more reasons than just Viet Nam.
He was an evil, evil man.

I just woke up from the worst headache since I had a sinus infection 30 years ago. I actually took a couple Tylenol P.M. earlier today to help me sleep it off (no drinks tonight).
I don't know why - I very rarely get headaches. I did have a large sugar-free tea with lunch. Maybe the sweetener? I usually don't have that junk because I can't stand th e taste, but the tea was OK.

Did you have peanuts or shellfish earlier? Or -- my fave -- I can have chocolate or red wine or yellow cheese or nuts.....I can even have two in an evening....but when I have three, I've got about a 75% chance of a slammin' migraine the next day.

The financial system, the insurance companies and the Healthcare system.
No they won't be destroyed but they will be filled with chaos and uncertainty which will destroy their ability to operate efficiently and effectively. Some people will die because of that.
It's all about the timing. Note the original implementation was delayed until after the 2nd term elections. Now that he is ensconced as President, he wants to delay the effects to the most useful time for his (or his masters) aims. Which is and has been the collapse of the United States of America as a unified political entity.
And, BTW, I believe that he is not being challenged on his delays because the ACA gives the Sec'y of Health the power to make those delays. Whoever is Sec'y has great latitude on when, where and how the law is enforced.
The House gave up it's power, The Senate is in control of the Dems.
There is no exit until 2017.

______________
I happened to have some store brand PM in the medicine cabinet - I just wanted to sleep it off!
Nope, but peanuts/ shellfish don't bother me a bit.
Had three cups of instant coffee this morning (a rarity for me), which gave me heartburn, so I took a zantac. Then at lunch I accidentally bought a big can of sugar-free iced tea.
I've heard that fake sweetener can bring on migraines, but I'm not really prone and to them.
I don't know... stress? Horrible diet lately. I haven't been riding like I used to (too damned cold!), i and barely walk 6 or so miles a week. And that isn't even at a very good clip.

No they won't be destroyed but they will be filled with chaos and uncertainty which will destroy their ability to operate efficiently and effectively. Some people will die because of that.
I don't know if you were here for the discussion of multiplication of the money supply a few days ago, but an unwind from the current 20-30:1 to something in the low single digits will leave parts of the financial system functioning. Sort of. What else remains depends on whose banks stay afloat. I can't see any circumstance where the insurance industry survives. Some healthcare services will continue, if they can be done at payment rates that average people can afford without the insurance backstop.
The reason those of us worry about this sort of thing range into zombie apocalypse territory is a complete lack of faith in the people of this society to figure out how to make do with less, much less do it. YMMV.

The Beast is actually upside down when St. John sees it in his vision.
So the Number of the Beast is 999.
The Devil always likes people to believe things that aren't true.
It's why he's nicknamed the Great Deceiver, Father of Lies, etc.
Not sure if serious, so let me try two responses.
A)We don't get to 999 in the ONT often enough to make a game of that
B)How did Satan affect a vision John was receiving from God? That seems like the definition of a secure connection to me.

The first car I had in my name was a 79 Mustang that ate head cover gaskets like candy. heads and head covers were made out metals with different coefficients of expansion, so they'd apply shear to the gaskets in every heat/cool cycle.

For some values of 'survive.' On any particular thing, it kind of depends on how badly the medical industry (not insurance, but the actual service itself) is gouging us. So, to pick one of Denninger's examples, if you have a drug that is only useful in prolonging the life of men with prostate cancer on average 6 months at a cost of a quarter million dollars, and it actually costs anywhere near that, it's just going to disappear. If the actual cost to produce it is a tenth or so of that, then maybe it continues as older men may have that kind of money banked away.
Assuming society doesn't completely break down while the economic shocks are working themselves out, I think we'll find health insurance to be largely unnecessary. It's a pretty painful road to get there, though.

I eventually ditched the car and got a Nissan. My first year owning the Nissan cost me less -- including down payment and car payments -- than the repair bills on the Mustang in the previous year.
The aftermarket valve covers would have been in the queue, but the thing also ate 3 starters, two ring gears, a water pump, two carbs, a tranny, tires (until I learned to ignore the factory toe-in setting and run 'em parallel)....really, I felt personally insulted when Ford came out with their "Quality is Job One" slogan in '82.

I haven't seen that specific thing, but the IMF and the EU central banks have been getting pushier in recent years about what they get in terms of collateral for their funny money. Remember that the last loans to Cyprus that were widely discussed were predicated on the local banking system providing part of the funds through flat out looting their depositors, an act which was generally seen as insanity be everyone not involved in the decision.

Given the evidence and current attitude and actions, I've come to the conclusion that Obama is either
a) cleaned up crack head front man for a cabal of Islamic Oil states looking to cripple the US
b) cleaned up crack head front man for a cabal of terrorist organizations looking to cripple the US
c) One lucky, slick and smart huckster playing the system for all he's worth and being aided and abetted by representatives of the previous choices who is being guided by hard core communist/socialist ideologues who haven't a clue what the results will be.
Either way, the US is going to pay for it's false ideal of diversity and equality of outcome and the outside imposed guilt over the supposed failure of the US to achieve that false expectation promulgated by the cynical enemies of liberty.

"President ObamaÂ’s job approval rating hits a record low this week, as a majority of Americans say his administration has mostly failed at growing the economy, creating jobs, improving health care and the countryÂ’s image.
ThatÂ’s according to a Fox News poll released Wednesday.
For the first time in a Fox News poll, fewer than four voters in ten

One good example is when they played for that Airforce party. Ok, most bands will never play a gig for the Airforce, but you WILL play an absolutely totally wrong gig for a totally wrong crowd that will go over like a fart in church at some point in your playing career. I call it the waaay wrong band for a waaaay wrong crowd. Thats what that scene represented.
Many bands also seem to have the fucking girlfriend of some band member that somehow thinks the band is standing in the way of her Johnny's destiny. The band don't make him look good enough, the band don't make him sound good enough, etc etc. They are a fucking cancer to a band. Thats exactly what the girlfriend in that movie represented. The stupid costumes, the stupid ideas, etc all stem from a chick with that mindset, and they do break bands up. Been there done that, I can tell stories all day. The movie is great at running down a list of scenarios that do happen all the time and portray them as comically or tragically as they indeed happen, and also captures the inner screwball of band members. The movie is just genius.

I have a very peculiar setup. I used to have internet through Comcast, but went with AT+T U-verse to save $$$. Comcast makes you buy a cable modem -- U-verse gives you a router.
Now, fact is, I got my own router before switching -- it supports a USB drive, NAT, device prioritizing, dual-frequency 802.11x wireless, guest wireless, gigabit internal speeds, and all sorts of other good fun. And it's daisy-chained off of AT+T's router.
This means, in practice, that TVs are prioritized over internet, but internal drive <-> drive transfers don't even touch the AT+T router and can be very fast.
Problem is (a) the AT+T router doesn't want to play nice with downstream routers, and (b) the Linksys router is "cloud-managed", insecure, buggy, and doesn't want to play nice in its configuration.

This is way beyond ampersands &&&&&
How do I do do "Umlauts" ? (the double period over a vowel)in new Pixy without referencing 80's Metal Bands?
Because, I've decided that as annoying as the character Saga Noren is, she is WAYY better than MONK or "The Closer".
Bothers me I can't spell her name...
Also, just sped through all of "The Shield" caught a Vic Mackey reference in one of the Lois Lerner posts.

i.m going to take a risk on this although i haven't moved on to the deftones yet..
the ways of pixy are a mystery, i have no idea who that character is, bit google is a good source for spelling, and i missed the vic ref...

I've always liked Deety, but she's in-and-out so fast it's tough to get a read on her. I tried to talk to her a while ago and things got scrambled -- so I canned it rather than cause her more pain. Shortly afterward, MAx started needling me about hurting her -- which has never been my intention. I would like to soothe any distress I may have caused Deety.

This week has had a distinct change in the pattern of low price alerts.
For three weeks there has been a steady flow of .-5-.08 per round alerts between Mondays and Wednesdays, followed by the constant availability of ammo at .14-.42 per round.
This week has seen a total of ONE alert, with even the availability of higher priced rounds dropping down..
Don't know the cause, but the availability pattern has changed.

I tend to focus on the .22lr, and it's pricing/availability.
Your link does touch on a point concerning the effects of the Ukrainian unpleasantness on Russian ammo in the US.
But the .22lr should be separated from that.
Lot's of my back-ordered stuff is coming in.
But the number of new sale price events is way down.

846 It might actually be an Orson Welles invention, zombie. He made a documentary in the early '70s called "F For Fake" about art forgery. There's a part a few minutes into the film where he says that for the next hour everything he shows you will be true. So you think you're smart and go, "The movie's an hour and a half long! I got you already, dipshit. I'm smarter than Orson Welles! Now to wait for his lies to begin..." And the last twenty minutes or so is a blatantly fictional story about Picasso. But the whole movie is full of bullshit. So it's a comedy. Or at least a joke.
Posted by: IT'S NOT IMPORTANT
I've actually seen "F Is For Fake," and it was so incomprehensible I think at best it just left audiences confused about whether they had just seen a film or instead been slipped some PCP.
File that one under "Crockumentary."
Posted by: zombie at March 06, 2014 03:00 AM (mizYg)
Coming in late to this: F Is For Fake is what Welles called an "essay film;" he was trying to translate the written essay into movie form - trying something different, as he did with Kane. Read My Lunches With Orson for Welles' own thoughts onF.
