1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Tuesday, April 01, 2014.  On this day in 1970 President Nixon signed a bill into law banning cigarette ads on radio and TV.  TV immediately went to shit.  And the unconstitutional ban did nothing to slow down cigarette smoking at all.

8 In yet another regulatory over-reach program from the Obamanites, the FDA is planning to expand its massive regulatory empire into the sale of left over grains from beer brewers to ranchers as animal feed.

"This proposed regulation would help prevent foodborne illness in both animals and people," the agency said in the statement.

That is absolute horse shit from shit eating bureaucrats.   These grains have been sold like this forever and there has never been a documented case of foodborne illness from it that I have ever heard about.  In fact, the ONLY case of foodborne illness in modern times that I am aware of occurred at that GA peanut butter plant that was violating EXISTING rules that the FDA was not enforcing.

21 "Homophobia" is used because it implies weakness.  Irrational "fear" of gays rather than opposition based on logical or moral considerations.  It also allows the left to slander their opponents by insinuating that the reason for this fear is repressed homosexuality.

22 Now, if we could just get people to stop using "homophobic" and "anti-gay" to mean "hurt my widdle feelings" and "prefers the legislative process to decrees by lawyers", that would be a huge step forward.

58 Good Morning, I didnÂ’t read your links Vic simply because I have too much to do & sometimes, often, spend too much time here in the early morning thread. ItÂ’s my favorite when IÂ’m up. But I have to go to work & it makes me later. IÂ’m just happy it is April. I hope the weather improves as it usually does. I have roses coming the week of PatriotsÂ’ Day, same Monday as Boston Marathon, and usually take the week off. There have been some years where it has been so nice IÂ’m out there with normal clothes for the 50s & 60s and other times where I have had to wear my late fatherÂ’s very old MemberÂ’s Only jacket. I see no point in buying myself something thatÂ’s only purpose is to get cut up and dirty. HeÂ’s been gone almost 26 years. Vic, my dentist, Paul, told me years ago that the best state to live in weather wise is NC. He told me that youÂ’ll get an occasional storm & it will paralyze the state because you arenÂ’t equipped to deal with it. How many snow storms did you have this year?

With just hours to spare, Congress passed legislation Monday to prevent doctors who treat Medicare patients from being hit with a 24 percent cut in their payments from the government. The Senate's 64-35 vote, with 16 Republicans voting in favor, sends the measure to delay the cuts for a year to President Obama, who's expected to quickly sign it. The House passed the measure last week. The $21 billion bill....

I work in Prudential Tower in Boston, the office buildings open to a mall and I park in the parking garage underneath. I donÂ’t have to go outside to get something to eat or shop, which I rarely do. I spend at most three minutes outside in the morning, walking from my back door to my car and same at night. It might take me an extra minute to get the key in the door of my house at night. I have full length fur coat and have worn it mores than any year I have had it ever, this year. I bought it in December 2000. Considering IÂ’m outside at most 7 minutes a day, thatÂ’s very cold. I have 2012 BMW that warms up in 5 minutes, if not less. I canÂ’t remember a year where I have worn that coat almost every day.

“Sen. Susan Collins is talking with colleagues on both sides of the aisle about a possible alternative that could raise the wage by a reasonable amount...” said Kevin Kelley, a spokesman for Collins.

Her most likely allies are Republican senators who helped to negotiate a bipartisan deal to extend unemployment benefits, including Sens. Dean Heller (Nev.), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Kelly Ayotte (N.H.) and Mark Kirk (Ill.).

Apparently something incrementally less than the Democrat's preferred $10.10. Package to include tax incentives for hiring, because spending even more money is true fiscal conservatism.

I notice the MFM never mentions why the unions are pushing for that $10.10 and hour.  And it is not because people are actually working for the $7 an hour it currently is.

It is because the public service unions like SEIU get an automatic raise any time the damn minimum wage goes up.   And piss on Susan Collins and her gang of DIABLOs.

There's a port, on a western bay
And it serves a hundred ships a day
Lonely sailors pass the time away
And talk about their homes

And there's a girl in this harbor town
And she works layin' whiskey down
They say "Brandy, fetch another round"
She serves them whiskey and wine

Both terms are equally nonsensical and rely upon drumming up a bogus victimisation argument that simply has no relevance.

When gays *fake* more hate crimes in a year than they actually suffer, it's pretty ridiculous to make an argument that people are "anti-gay."  People don't agree with the gay agenda - that's not the same thing as being "anti-gay."

And this guy again:

Spike Lee has blasted a New York Times film critic who claimed his recent criticism of gentrification in Brooklyn was hypocritical because he lives on Manhattan's Upper East Side.

The filmmaker delivered an expletive-filled lecture at Pratt Institute for Black History Month in February about white 'hipsters' acting like Christopher Columbus and 'kill(ing) off the Native Americans' in the borough.

Commenting on the 7 minute rant, A.O. Scott wrote in Sunday's Times: 'As is often the case with Mr. Lee's public utterances, this one was a mixture of hyperbole, provocation and plain truth... What's the saying about people who live in glass brownstones?'

But the article incensed Lee so much that he penned an open letter Monday to the critic defending his Brooklyn credentials and his ability to comment on the changing face of the borough despite moving away.

'The Truth is The Truth. The Truth is The Light... The Truth is Gentrification is Great for the New Arrivals in Harlem, South Bronx, Bushwick, Red Hook, Bed-Stuy Do or Die and Fort Greene, and in many other cities across the U.S. But not so great for The Brown and Black Residents who have been in these Neighborhoods for decades and are being forced out, to the Suburbs, Down South or back to their Native Islands."

http://tinyurl.com/p8st29n

I gather by "Native Americans" he means Puerto Ricans, from the place where pretty much all the natives died out a few years after Columbus arrived over 500 years ago.

However, the Fed just announced that they will continue to hold interest rates at zero and print money from now until doomsday.  So the 20%+ inflation rate we have will continue because of that.

124 65. The other side of that coin... "CIA misled on interrogation program, Senate report" A report by the Senate Intelligence Committee concludes that the CIA misled the government and the public about aspects of its brutal interrogation program for years — concealing details about the severity of its methods, overstating the significance of plots and prisoners, and taking credit for critical pieces of intelligence that detainees had in fact surrendered before they were subjected to harsh techniques. “The CIA described [its program] repeatedly both to the Department of Justice and eventually to Congress as getting unique, otherwise unobtainable intelligence that helped disrupt terrorist plots and save thousands of lives,” said one U.S. official briefed on the report. “Was that actually true? The answer is no.” Officials said millions of records make clear that the CIA’s ability to obtain the most valuable intelligence against al-Qaeda had little, if anything, to do with “enhanced interrogation techniques.” “The CIA conflated what was gotten when, which led them to misrepresent the effectiveness of the program,” said a second U.S. official who has reviewed the report. The official described the persistence of such misstatements as among “the most damaging” of the committee’s conclusions. The report’s release also could resurrect a long-standing feud between the CIA and the FBI, where many officials were dismayed by the agency’s use of methods [of] torture. CIA veterans have expressed concern that the report reflects FBI biases. By Greg Miller, Adam Goldman and Ellen Nakashima, Published: March 31 http://tinyurl.com/ln666s2 I'm not surprised by the proof in the pudding, nor that it took so long in coming since 9/11/01 to the "American Spring" of 2014. The entire purpose of creating the DHS (with the obscene Patriot Act) was to purge miscommunications within the US Intelligence Community. THIS is not only a huge fail, but the deceitfully "sweet" propaganda sold to Americans -- to trust Bush's authoritarian post-constitutional administration. After all, the Bush family is swell, just the nicest bunch evah /smiley faced liberal fascism. A pox on those shared values which terminate Constitutional Governance. 128 This minimum wage crap has nothing to do with low wage people.

It is yet one more push by unions..unions whose members in some cases make $15-$20 per hour.

Why?  Because thousands of union contracts use minimum wage in their calculation of base pay.  It could be "minimum wage plus $5" or "150% of minimum wage".  A boost to the fed minimum wage would mean an automatic raise for all these union workers, or at the very least, would force new contract negotiations.

People earning minimum wage that are not teenagers make up about 1.5% of workers.  This is not about them.. it's about the millions of workers in the SEIU and other service unions.

WHAT IS the "correct" posture to take at home when you hear someone yell "Your County Sheriff" and break down your door? Freeze...or fall to the earth in submission to your masters. You'll not be given the opportunity to open the door and identify yourself properly. It wasn't as if the law enforcement had a clerical error typed wrong address that they "served". "Police misconduct in Ohio." Collins, 26, said he was watching TV when he heard someone yell, “Huron County Sheriff” outside his door. “As soon as I stood up, they bum-rushed the door and threw me on the ground at gunpoint,” Collins said.

But this is not one of those things. Even giving O'Care the best chances (which is overly generous to say the least) you need to capture people and convert them fairly quickly. Capturing people in their car (where radio dominates) is not going to covert anyone.

Who the f knows? All I'm saying is that they were going to get their numbers. Yesterday, I mentioned the unemployment rate dropping .3% just before the election in 2012. They always seem to get the numbers they need to claim success at just the right time. Anyone who disputes the validity of those numbers is rooting for failure or talking down the economy. I'm not into conspiracies, but I'm not into coincidences, either. FTR, I don't believe these numbers. Unfortunately, we'll only find out the truth when it doesn't matter.

US To Require rear cameras in all vehicles by 2018

Detroit News: http://tinyurl.com/kjkxyam

Washington — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Monday finalized long-delayed rules that will require automakers to install back-up cameras in all vehicles by May 2018.

The new rules set rear visibility standards that automakers will initially be able to meet only by installing cameras. At the same time, major automakers said Monday they are petitioning the Obama administration to let them end the use of side view mirrors if they install cameras that could perform the same task — a move that could improve fuel efficiency.

Since it was first proposed, the cost of hardware has come down as more cameras have been added to certain models. Honda Motor Co. and Subaru Motor Co. both announced they are making the cameras standard in all vehicles, and they will be standard on the 2015 Ford Focus, due out later this year....

Fuck that.   Let me keep my side mirrors.     If a side mirror breaks, you tape it back on.   If a back-up camera breaks, or the monitor you view it on breaks, you spend hundreds of fucking dollars getting it fixed.

Again:  FUCK.  THAT.

Fuck you, gubmint.

205 British sniper in Afghanistan kills six Taliban with one bullet

UK Telegraph:  http://tinyurl.com/pzsuqja

A British sniper in Afghanistan killed six insurgents with a single bullet after hitting the trigger switch of a suicide bomber whose device then exploded, The Telegraph has learnt.

The 20-year-old marksman, a Lance Corporal in the Coldstream Guards, hit his target from 930 yards (850 metres) away, killing the suicide bomber and five others around him caught in the blast.

The incident in Kakaran in southern Afghanistan happened in December but has only now been disclosed as Britain moves towards the withdrawal of all combat soldiers by the end of the year.

Lt Col Richard Slack, commanding officer of 9/12 Royal Lancers, said the unnamed sharpshooter prevented a major attack by the Taliban, as a second suicide vest packed with 20kg (44lbs) of explosives was found nearby.

The same sniper, with his first shot on the tour of duty, killed a Taliban machine-gunner from 1,465 yards (1,340m)...

223 1) Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard will be released before the first Passover seder on Monday April 14. 2) The negotiations will continue into 2015, during which time the Palestinians will commit themselves not to engage in diplomatic warfare against Israel by going to international organizations for recognition. 3) Israel will release the fourth batch of 26 Palestinians convicted of terror acts before the 1993 Oslo Accords. Some Israeli-Arabs will be included in the release, although it is not yet certain how many. 4) Israel will release an additional 400 Palestinian prisoners during the continuing negotiation period. These prisoners will be picked by Israel, will include many minors and women, and will not include those with "blood on their hands." 5) Israel will "exercise restraint" in releasing government tenders for new homes in the West Bank, meaning that it will issue no new government tenders for housing in Judea and Samaria. This policy will not include Jewish neighborhoods in Jerusalem beyond the Green Line. This policy will also exclude public building projects such as roads. Israel has rejected a total settlement freeze. IF this goes thru it will be TERRIBLE, a real SHANDA. Israel's security has NOTHING to do with Pollard and this is like selling Israel for a few sheckels of gold. Even Pollard is against this! Jonathan Pollard does not want to be freed from a US jail in exchange for Palestinians prisoners, Housing Minister Uri Ariel said Tuesday. Ariel told Army Radio that people close to Pollard have told him that the convicted spy opposes such a "shameful deal." Ariel, a member of the far-right Bayit Yehudi party told the radio that he, too, is against the release of murderers for Pollard. (AP)

227 Husband has been a regional manager for a large retailer for fifteen years. I assure you that any minimum wage increase will seriously fkuc up the retail sector. As others have pointed out, the entire wage structure for all hourly employees will have to respond. And that money will have to come from somewhere. Most retail operations run on extremely thin margins in highly competitive markets. The money isn't there unless they raise prices.

Other than threat to health, emotional injury, spiritual debilitation, deleterious long-term effects on subsequent generations, and the undermining of home and family, the basic foundation of civilization and humanity's only hope of advance. I did not understand this when younger (and, alas, still when older). I "questioned authority." My experience was: valid authority has a way of wising one up. Eventually. At a cost.

It did have a radio (which was a nice add on) but no tape deck or CD player. While the simplicity is nice, Power locks would be helpful when trying to let people in my car (especially if they have to throw something in the back seat.) At the very least a trunk release would be nice so I don't have to turn off the car, get out, open the trunk with the key then get back in. (That doesn't even have to have any "power" a spring release would work.) I can take or leave power windows, I come and go from parking garages a lot, so it'd be convenient, when I'm juggling my badge and such, but not really worth the cost.

250 I think "homophobia" is exactly the right word. I fear that activist homosexuals like Judge Vaughan Walker will abuse their positions of authority to thwart the will of the people to define marriage as they wish, just so they can marry their gay lover. And that's exactly what has happened. And it will happen more and more. I fear that this tiny percentage of people have worked their way into positions within our Executive bureaucracy, Legislative and Judicial branches for the sole purpose of shoving their aberrant sexual practices up Liberty's asshole. Next stop, MANDATORY school curriculum defining this deviancy as perfectly ordinary and desirable to young children. Any instruction to the contrary will be attacked with the virulence previously reserved for Creationism. At best, Gabe's okay with it. At worst, he's part of it. Take your pick. Homophobic. 257 NFL Teams To Allow Cheerleaders To Visit Fans In Their Seats During Games

CBS Atlanta:   http://tinyurl.com/mlvtghk

ATLANTA (CBS Atlanta) — The National Football Leagues has partnered with an app developer that will allow fans to get an in-seat visit from cheerleaders.

Sports Business Journal reports the NFL has teamed up with Experience in an effort to help improve the in-game experience for fans. On top of having cheerleaders visit fans in their seats, the app will allow fans the opportunity to upgrade their seats and also allowing them to be on the field before the game.

Three teams – the Atlanta Falcons, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Seattle Seahawks – used the app last year and Brian Lafemina, the NFL’s senior vice president of club business development, believes that number will increase substantially...

Yeah, if I was an NFL cheerleader (*laughing hysterically*)   I know   that I would TOTALLY want to go up into the stands to visit a bunch of sweaty,   drunk   idiots who get the pleasure of my company because they purchased    expensive tickets.

271 Miami officials seek to end annual Ultra music fest, cite 'chaos'

Reuters: http://tinyurl.com/nztu9ey

(Reuters) - The mayor and other Miami officials are calling for the end of the annual Ultra electronic dance music festival after a security guard was trampled and rushed to the hospital with brain injuries when gate-crashers broke through a security fence during the three-day event.

The 28-year-old woman, who worked for a security firm, remained in critical condition Monday, according to Miami police spokesman Freddie Cruz.

"I think we should not have Ultra next year here," Miami mayor Tomas Regalado told the Miami Herald over the weekend. "We don't want to be showcased as the city of chaos."

He said festival organizers "acted irresponsibly" by failing to provide enough security at downtown Bayfront Park.

More than 160,000 people attended the festival, now in its 16th year, according to Ultra spokeswoman Alexandra Greenberg. Police arrested 84 people and made more than 150 rescue runs...

Exactly.    And they're claiming    this requirement for backup cameras is to increase    safety.   Yeah, right.   This is what happens:

1)  Someone's rear    camera breaks.

2) They take the car to the shop and are told it's going to cost XYZ hundred dollars to get it fixed.

3) Person says, "F that" and leaves it broken.

4) Person now has no way of seeing behind their car   except the old fashioned "looking over the shoulder" method (why is this suddenly not enough anymore?),  but since person has always had the stupid   rear camera, person doesn't   remember to do it.

5) Person backs over pet/child/old person.

This will happen.  This will happen more than once.   I guarantee it.

300 This will happen. This will happen more than once. I guarantee it. Posted by: MWR, Proud Tea(rrorist) Party Bossy Assault Hobbit (or Beth for short) at April 01, 2014 09:09 AM (4df7R) We call this an 'opportunity' -Binder & Binder along with The Cochran Firm

301 The lovely and talented wife, former NFL cheerleader, saw that story a couple days ago and had pretty much the same reaction. With a little more...flavorful...language.

I bet she did!   I mean, it's bad enough that the mascot has to be on call for this kind of shit, but at least    that's understood as part of the mascot's JOB: to interact with the fans.   The cheerleaders are there to LEAD the CHEERS,   not get groped   by     drunk   loudmouths    with sweaty hands.

302 >>KKK membership is on the rise. Why is that?

Westboro Baptist "Church" members looking for a new club now that their (Democrat) leader is burning in h*ll?

304 Posted by: votermom at April 01, 2014 09:09 AM (GSIDW) Currently, only 4 years (1 year of manufacturer's warranty then 3 of extended.) But I fully expect to get further extended warranty offers in the mail when that expires. They way I see it, is my anecdotal experience with electronics is, if it doesn't break in the first few years, it'll keep going for a while. To be honest though, with the way the newer stuff is made, I never expected to get more than 10-15 years out of it anyway. Stuff is built to basically be disposable.

306 I plan to buy a dashboard camera.  Between the rogue cops and the lying shitweasels that will run a red light, hit you, and them claim they had green, I figure that it's a good investment.

307 Posted by: MWR, Proud Tea(rrorist) Party Bossy Assault Hobbit (or Beth for short) at April 01, 2014 09:12 AM (4df7R) I'll grant you "not get groped by drunk loudmouths" but I'm pretty sure the Cheerleaders are not there to lead cheers as much as they are to look pretty for the cameras and provide B-Roll for the TV broadcast.

308 The cheerleaders are there to LEAD the CHEERS to be T and A, not get groped by drunk loudmouths with sweaty hands. Posted by: MWR, Proud Tea(rrorist) Party Bossy Assault Hobbit (or Beth for short) at April 01, 2014 09:12 AM (4df7R) Fixed.

309 .22lr shortage coming to an end. By utilizing a piece of technology we are calling Magnetic Augmentation Generation Intrinsic Creation we will allow ammunition companies to finally be able to meet the public demand for 22LR ammunition. MAGIC will allow ammo companies to instantly catch up to the enormous demand for 22LR in the American market. Our technology works by extracting raw materials from near earth asteroids and pulling them to earth through low frequency magnetic beams. During the transportation process, our magnetic beams actually begin assembling the raw materials into the basic parts needed to produce the high demand cartridge.

310 I got a very good dash cam from Amazon for 27 bucks. Going to put one in the wife's car too.

311 This is kind of interesting:

Iranians praising Israel while criticizing their government.  Sure it's tongue in cheek, but there is some light being shown here.  Light on the truth about the regard that LIFE is held by islam.  It won't, but one can dream that light would flood the darkness of their evil beliefs.  Much, much evil would cease to exit if islam did as well.

312 Blaster ... I would hear more of this dash cam. Corded, I assume. Mounting like a Garmin ?

313 I must say that although I think an Article V convention may be our only hope, it may not turn out as well as we would like. Just look at the sheer number of thoroughly corrupt and stupid politicians that have been elected at the local, state, and national levels and rest assured that far too many of them will be participants, if not players, in such a Convention. Posted by: Hrothgar at April 01, 2014 08:51 AM (o3MSL) 3/4 of states need to pass any amendments. Term limits would pass.

314 I agree with everyone about how misapplied "anti-gay" is but lets cut Gabe some slack. As a gay conservative he's reviled by the left.

318 Is there anyone left that uses the electric chair. I thought the courts had pretty much outlawed those.

Posted by: Vic at April 01, 2014 07:39 AM (T2V/1)

Most states employ lethal injection. Florida allows prisoners to choose between lethal injection and electrocution. Same with Virginia. Utah still does the firing squad.

Historically, electrocution has been a very effective and humane means of execution, with most condemned prisoners dying virtually instantaneously. It's those (very) few who didn't die instantaneously, smoking and burning and moaning and writhing with witnesses looking on, who made the practice obsolete.

Personally, I think the Russians and Chinese have it right: a single bullet fired at a slightly downward angle to the base of the skull, destroying the medulla oblongata, is instantly, certainly fatal and presumably painless.

Insofar as capital punishment is concerned, I'm with (now retired) FBI profiler John Douglas on this one: while the death penalty may not prove to be a major deterrent to those out there committing capital crimes, it is a certainty that those executed will never commit another such crime again. It is also just that cold-blooded, first-degree murderers pay for the life they took with their own. I believe in justice.

319 Chicago doesn't need $250 million more taxes for pensions over five years ($50 million per year), it needs $300 million more for fire and police; $400 million more for public school pensions; $100 ? million for CTA; and add $100 million for other city pensions and another $50 for Cook County. These are off the top of my head but in the right direction. So, add that up and you have $850 million ish PER YEAR in additional pension payments. Chicago Public Schools has a $1 billion (with a b) annual operating deficit. City of Chicago has a $340 million operating deficit. CTA has an operating deficit of $10 million (but that is an unrealistic number because of huge deferred maintenance and capital improvements and optimistic pension assumptions). The good news is that there are more bike lanes for hipsters now. Now, the S&P 500 increased by 275% since the lows of 2009 five years ago.

320 You make fun, but phobias are a real thing.  For example, I don't think you should put your wiener in guys' butts, so I'm homophobic.  I have to be honest and mention that I don't think you should put it in women's butts either, so I'm also heterophobic (or heterorumpphobic?).  I'm against all forms of rape, so I'm clearly a rabid rapeophobic.

While we're being honest, I don't think we should eat dog poop.  I would say that makes me dogpoopophobic, but it runs deeper than that - I might suffer from general 'poopophobia'.  I don't think we should eat any of it!  I don't know what you call that.  I'm not a doctor.

And lastly, I'm against murder (murderphobic).  Once my obamacare kicks I'll probably get some pills to fix this.
