— Ace Some Partisan Theater for your morning enjoyment. Video at the link (Mediaite), or below.
Issa asked Cummings if he had any questions for the Fifth-pleading witness, Lois Lerner. Instead of asking a question, Cummings offered another rant. Issa asked him to yield, and Cummings refused, so Issa turned off his microphone and called for an adjournment. Cummings continued to rant (turning off his microphone had little effect given that he was yelling).
Buzzfeed's takeaway will be Issa's "cut him off' gesture, drawing his hand across the neck.
I'm pretty sure that's racist.
While making a statement before the committee, Issa stood up and asked Cummings to yield.“If you will sit down and allow me to ask a question,” Cummings insisted. “I am a member of a Congress of the United States of America.”
“I am tired of this,” he continued. “You cannot just have a one-sided investigation. There is absolutely something wrong with that, and it is absolutely un-American.”
In response to a series of pointed questions from Issa, Lerner repeatedly said, "On the advice of my counsel, I respectfully exercise my Fifth Amendment right and decline to answer that question."After less than 15 minutes, Issa adjourned the hearing. "I can see no point in going further," he said.
When the ranking Democrat on the panel, Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland, tried to ask a question, Issa told Republicans on the committee they could leave and the hearing was over.
"Shame, shame," Democrats called out.
Hot Air adds this explanation from Issa:
“He was actually slandering me at the moment that the mics did go off by claiming that this had not been a real investigation.”
Video stolen from Hot Air below.

Cute. "Tried to ask a question" is apparently the same as "decided to go off on a partisan rant."

I think we all would like this to be more than a one-sided investigation, but a government employee keeps taking the fifth when asked about the work she's doing on behalf of the US Government, and one party in Congress is utterly uninterested in joining in to investigate why.
So Cummings pretending to fret about a one-sided investigation rings pretty fucking hollow to me. Kind of like the kid who killed his parents then complained about being an orphan.

You want to know why people are frustrated with the GOP?-Here you go.
Not only have Republicans allowed Democrats to change congressional rules without consequence and provided no response to executive branch overreach that is stealing power from the people, but they've allowed abuses such as this to go substantively unanswered and traded it for theater.
How about Republicans forgo the drama and actually stand up to the bullies for a change? Hmmm?
Pussies.

Cummings was going for that Joseph Welch ‘Have you no decency’ effect, when Welch called out Joseph McCarthy and contributed to McCarthy’s loss of credibility. Issa, a supremely intelligent and perceptive man, saw what Cummings was doing and cut him off.
The Democrats are trying desperately to portray this as a McCarthy-like witch hunt even though Lerner is clearly guilty, guilty, guilty of using the IRS as a political enforcement and intimidation arm of the Obama Administration. Cummings did what he did cynically, purposefully, because Democrats are sleazy operators. ThatÂ’s who they are, what they do.
A comparative moderate, Issa gets a lot of heat from conservatives for his squishiness on several core issues. It should be pointed out that heÂ’s a California Republican, which is kinda sorta the equivalent of an Indiana Democrat. I cut him slack on that score. Representing California, Issa can be hardly be a Ted Cruz or Rick Perry Republican and expect to keep his seat.

This is OT, but France is seriously a caricature of itself at this point.
Strauss-Kahn best man to replace France's Hollande, says leaked poll
France24: http://tinyurl.com/pepxpjg
Disgraced former IMF director Dominique Strauss-Kahn is the most qualified to replace France’s unpopular president, François Hollande, according to a shock survey French newspaper Le Parisien chose not to publish.
Asked which French politician they trusted to run the economy, 56% of those surveyed named the 64-year-old former head of the International Monetary Fund, whose political career has been ruined by a string of sex scandals and criminal allegations.
Alain Juppé, a former foreign minister, came second with 53%, while former president Nicolas Sarkozy pooled 49%...
Sure. Because France is already a place where sex scandals make you MORE popular, so let's just toss DSK into the mix again. After all, he was head of the IMF! So he knows money and shit!

Wasn't it Elijah Cummings' daughter who tried to get her FCC colleagues to send government monitors into news rooms to investigate how well Fox was reporting the news?
Now we see Congressman Cummings himself speaking in favor of using the IRS to punish the political speech of average Americans, by way of protecting the very woman who organized the effort on behalf of the foul and disgusting progressive fascists who run the government.
Clearly, the definition of "unAmerican" is different in the Cummings household than it is in mine.

No. Not the type of justice that can be discussed on this blog. I have very little faith anymore of anything being corrected by political means on the course this nation is now on. We missed that chance in 2008. This regime and congress have set the stage for the downfall of the US as we've known it.
Nothing will happen until the old-guard elites are gone and the MFM is brought to it's knees. Even then I think it'll be too late.
We are now almost 2d world status, with the leftists of this country working very hard for 3rd world status.

First question:
What is the role of a US Congressman/woman?
Lee: This does not pertain to me, it is old honky law.
McKinney: Bush is the devil.
Cummings: Please repeat the question. I would like a roll, preferably buttered.
Answer:
The most important responsibility of Congress is that of making the laws of the United States. In both houses the work of preparing and considering legislation is done by standing committees, and in addition there are special committees in each house as well as joint committees with bicameral membership. The two houses have an equal voice in legislation, but revenue bills must originate in the House of Representatives. . *Note: Since 2008 laws have been largely passed by executive order and to hell with this other stuff. See: Obamacare, the most successful of all laws, evah.
Second question:
Which executive branch has the authority to impeach?
Lee: the Republicans? They tried to impeach Bill Clinton but failed!
McKinney: No one has that authority. No one. Bush should have been.
Cummings: I would like a peach, thank you. I prefer them from Georgia.
Answer: House of Representatives. Senate has authority to try impeachements.
Third question:
Which executive branch is seen as the most powerful?
Lee: Black Caucus, nitwit.
McKinney: I'll take Castro for the win.
Cummings: Are there peaches on that strong branch?
Answer: The Senate is regarded as the most powerful as they must ratify all treaties by 2/3 of vote, confirm presidential appointments to office, and they, unfortunately, hold a longer office than members of Congress.
Fourth question:
It is said that members of Congress, elected by the people and for the people, are "constituent servants." Do you consider yourself in this role?
Lee: I ain't nobody's servant!
McKinney: I concurify and resemble that statement. Bush!
Cummings: I have servants. Please repeat that question, as I am not familiar with that word...constipate?
Fifth question (bonus):
If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be?
Lee: A wood tree. Solid wood tree.
McKinney: Balsa or any type of wood from Cuba. Maybe driftwood.
Cummings: Peach tree. Maybe beech, with these beeches I am on panel with.
Answer: no one but Barbara Walters knows or cares.
Sixth bonus question:
If the three of you were on a constituent's boat, fundraising, with only two life rafts, and you struck a rocky shore, who would survive and how would you do it once your ship started taking on water?
Lee: I would survive as my wigs float. I am also the most important.
McKinney: I would survive as I am the fastest and know the route to Cuba.
Cummings: I don't understand this constipation thing nor the complexity of this question. I have questions of my own. It is raciss to refer to rocky shores, as Rockaway is raciss. Rafts seems raciss as well. And if there were not enough life rafts that is totally raciss and a plot by Republicans.
Answer: None of the above would survive due to pointing fingers at Republicans and screeching their last breath.

The one good thing about hauling Lois Lerner-Grayson up to testify, even when she's just going to take the 5th, is that she's spending a boatload of money on attorneys fees, and getting poorer by the month. Even if that's all she's going to do, her attorneys are billing her for 'prep' time to anticipate what Issa and those dastardly Republicans might do, in addition to the time spent coordinating with Cummings on the planned outrage.
Of course another way to hurt Lerner's bank account would be for a Republican to submit a bill (how about using the Democrat's tactics and call it the "Louis Lerner Act") that terminates all payments and benefits to a federal government employee, or former employee, if they take the 5th in relation to an action taken in their work role. Any Democrat that opposed it could face some interesting TV ads come this fall...
