Newest Feminist Crusade: Fighting for the Right of Middle-Schoolers to Wear Revealing Yoga Pants
— Ace

To enact a school policy that includes guidelines on shape-hugging clothing is to support "rape culture," you see.

This is what feminism has come to: fighting for the right to wear yoga pants and leggings to middle school. This pressing civil rights issue made headlines when girls in Evanston, Ill., protested rules that they said banned the bum-hugging clothing for creating classroom distractions.

A feminist flash mob attacked Haven Middle School for shaming girls and promoting rape culture. Eliana Dockterman wrote in Time that the school's argument "is not that distant from the arguments made by those who accuse rape victims of asking to be assaulted by dressing a certain way."

Actually, it's a universe away.

Rape is a physical attack and a crime. Pubescent boys noticing girls' bottoms is neither. Still, two parents wrote to the school asserting, "We really hope that you will consider the impact of these policies and how they contribute to rape culture." A feminist writer tweeted, "#RapeCultureIsWhen we tell 13-year-old girls they can't wear leggings because it's 'distracting' to the boys."

Apparently the Gawker site Jezebel fumed that rather than banning yoga pants (by the way, they weren't banned at all, but see Powers' column for that) we should teach boys not to be "disgusting" sexist pigs.

Teach them, they mean, not find the female forming pleasing.

#ConversionTherapy, I guess. Educate the Straight away.

25 How is this any different than banning  short-shorts or miniskirts or bikini tops, or mandating that the    boys wear their shirts,   or any other common   "dress code"   requirement?

Answer: it's not.

It's just another chance for the vaginalogues to open their traps and try to distract from the fishy     reek of their      gaping   dick slots   by   spewing   nonsensical garbage.

Oh, and this?

Rape is a physical attack and a crime. Pubescent boys noticing girls' bottoms is neither.

Yeah, but I guarandamntee you that if one of these    Precious Little   XX Angel's mothers    was   to catch   one of their male classmates so much as ACCIDENTALLY glancing at their Precious Little XX Angel's bottom while she was wearing her yoga pants,   the fucking vaginalogue establishment would be howling to the rafters demanding the boy's expulsion because    "THE MALE GAZE IS RAAAAAAPE!!!!"

The amount of loathing I hold for    vaginalogues of all ages,   creeds,   and colors      cannot be put into words.

34 The #1 problem in America is Rape Culture -- as represented by the White American Frat Boy and No Fat Chicks jokes. Actual rapes, which are disproportionately committed by african-american males, are not nearly as much of a problem as potential rapes. Potential Rapes are mostly committed by white men as part of White Privilege. It's also White Privilege that causes so many black men to commit Actual Rapes.

103 I'm all for staking out rapists on an anthill. But saying that a woman shouldn't walk around Harlem in a string bikini at night (unarmed) is not rape culture. It's fucking common sense. Much like telling girls that maybe, just maybe, getting drunk and passing out at a frat house might not be the smartest thing in the world.

I expect my kids, including my daughter, to make a lot of mistakes. But I'm doing my best to make certain that none of those mistakes are the ones that will get them raped, robbed, or killed. This-apparently- makes me a supporter of rape culture.

For the record, when the burning times come, these pieces of shit will be among the first put up against the wall. And they're too stupid to realize it.

I was absolutely shocked at the amount of skin that the 15 and 16 YO female Confirmandees were showing. Shocked until I saw what the Moms were wearing. Note to Eliana Docterman- 13 yr-old girls have hormones, too. Any girl wearing that kind of thing in public is either a) on her way to the gym or b) wanting to get noticed (sexually speaking). Sometimes c) both. It is not supportive of a "rape culture" to note that women wearing clothes designed to show off their bodies generally want males in the area to notice their bodies.

It helps to make up for some of the less pleasing attributes of many.  Some (many quoted in the article I would guess) it seems only have less pleasing attributes, don't know how they do it but they do.

283 It's amazing to me. Even boys who have been exposed to male hormones for all of 10 minutes, and oh-by-the-way in the greatest cosmic joke ever, they are strongest then of their entire lives, are expected to have the restraint normally associated with adult men in their 30s. We're trying to teach them that girls aren't sex objects, whose bodies exist for their sexual value alone so they don't grow up seeing women as nothing more than an outlet for sexual gratification. How about having young girls dressing like that is the case, instead of dressing like their bodies exist as a function of sexual attractiveness whose purpose is to attract the attention of boys. In short, how can I POSSIBLY convince a young man to respect a women's sexuality if girls won't do it themselves?

It really bothers me that so many people of all ages, shapes and sizes (yes, even the skinny or fit girls) wear such outfits when they're going out and about. If you want to wear leggings or yoga pants, please wear them with something that covers your butt, at the very least. I actually think they should be worn with a skirt or a very long top, but then I am conservative when it comes to clothes, and make no apologies for that.

I have tons of leggings,  worn only with long shirts or tunics or short dresses  - I know what you mean about outfits that are basically hosiery and not really pants.    I distinguish that from  jeggings and ski pants  and skinny pants which are variably,  best worn with a crisp white blouse or Mary Tyler Moore sweater (or even an 80s big top sweater,  though that look can be a little clowny and/or Gothenburg 1996.)

I think the big problem with yoga pants is that they are worn sizes too small and in cheap fabrics that become inadvertently   see-through via stretching.

340 A couple years ago, our local school systems got tired of fighting the gang wear, etc of the students so they passed a very strict dress code. Black pants or kakhis with pockets and worn with a belt, polo-style or button up shirts in red, blue, white or yellow. Pants pulled up. No hats or bandanas. In other words, a school uniform in all but name. A handful of parents fought for over a year to overturn the policy, calling it, you guessed it, unconstitutional. They lost. Very nice to see the kids lined up for the bus in decent, clean, fitting and modest clothing.

341 Yes, and babies with low-slung diapers should realize that this lewd behavior encourages pedophiles. All this "the boy will be driven crazy with these shape-hugging clothes" presume that boys can't control themselves and that women should wear tablecloths, tastefully draped. It's not all that far from Islamic dress codes, when such "reasoning" is applied. If only feminists realized how close nannyism and thought police are connected.

Posted by: Supreme Being at April 02, 2014 10:11 AM (UDPvg)

342 I suggest a nice banquet for families followed by the ritual "blinding of the boys" before they progress to upper middle school. That should take care of any complaints about boys focusing on the lady parts of girls who are wearing skimpy or revealing attire.

Posted by: Modest Proposal II at April 02, 2014 10:12 AM (XyM/Y)

343 Havildar,  there are some who have metriculated out of environments very highly restricted in terms of dress and contact,  who say it not only concentrated unhealth attention on sexuality (sort of in the way anorexics develop unhealthy, immoderate fixations on eating),  but created an environment where men could dump any sexual feelings or behavior (however natural or pathologically expressed) as the "fault" of whatever devil-vixen it was directed toward.

I have no idea if your idea of "modesty" approaches that,  its probably far more balanced.   But  I do think boys should have to get used to behaving themselves around girls whether they are in a pencil skirt or gunney sack, and understand that their appeal is a fact of life and it doesn't grant permission for breaching personal space or obligate the girl to respond to his attentions.

Posted by: SarahW at April 02, 2014 10:20 AM (Lbv/k)

344 SaraW Excellent point. Where I am currently living young women are "policed" by not simply their moms and dads, but by their neighborhood and classmates. It is not a good dynamic to have an adolescent male empowered to critique and report their female peers' garb. But that happens in my community quite frequently. I find it nauseating.

Posted by: Y-not on the phone at April 02, 2014 10:23 AM (zDsvJ)

345 SarahW-- I get it. I think what you describe are circumstances where the excuse to "dump" on was already there. But, children are not emotionally mature enough to be exposed to constant sexual environment as they are today. Both male and female children. Modest clothing in schools is a simple and easy solution to focus teachers and children where they should be -- on school AND being kids.

And then when it all comes home to roost, they'll just blame someone else for the costs of their hubristic wager.

354 That was a story from the Onion about 15 years ago: Area Woman Tired Of Men Staring At Her Breast Implants. So 15 years ago it was a joke. Today it's still a joke, but in a different way. http://www.theonion.com/articles/area-woman-tired-of-men-staring-at-her-breast-impl,9027/

356 "A feminist flash mob attacked Haven Middle School for shaming girls and promoting rape culture"

Yeah, because nothing reduces rapes more than yoga pants ... groan.
Actually, I have visions of some feminist research posting junk science proving that... get some ugly women to wear yoga pants and you could prove anything.

"221 The only worse one is the shorts with "Juicy" across the ass. WTF are these parents thinking? "

Parents are thinking: "How the heck can I teach my kid to wear something more appropriate and less embarrassing?" That's most of them.

But then some girls have their 40 something mom wear leopard print halter and leather pants thats a size too small, who thinks that outfit on their kid is da bomb.

357 "#RapeCultureIsWhen we tell 13-year-old girls they can't wear leggings because it's 'distracting' to the boys."

"#SLUTCultureIsWhen we tell 13-year-old girls they CAN wear leggings, After all, it's 'distracting' to the boys."

358 "is not that distant from the arguments made by those who accuse rape victims of asking to be assaulted by dressing a certain way."

Actually, it's the opposite. A rapist sexualizes a women, who is unwilling.
These idiot feminists think the sexualizing of women starts in the mind of the boys and girls have nothing to do with it. In fact, it starts in the environment.

Inappropriate dress a a woman sexualizing herself.   'Look at me, I'm sexy'
Idiot feminists treat girls as wholly victims of the environment but boys as wholly insensitive or masters of their environment. That would be news to anyone who's been or know teen boys. It's a form of attire flirtation, and the 'asking for it' excuse is a crutch, as nobody is saying that inappropriate dress justifies rape or any form of sexual harrassment etc.

School is a place for learning. So lose the revealing attire, gang tags, and other distractions and focus on, duh, learning.

"Feminists are rape-culture experts. Indeed, they invented the whole damn thing."

So true. What's awesome about inventing a societal problem that doesnt exist ... YOU'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO SOLVE IT.

Maybe a prison in Turkey.

361 "63 Why is it that the same people who think it is impossible to tell teenagers not to have sex, think it is possible to teach 13 year-old boys not to notice 13 year-old girls? I don't think I did much else in middle school. I'm surprised I actually got good grades."

I'm guessing you were doing the noticing and not 'have sex' part.

That's why you got good grades.

362 "That being said, you can't stop me from finding the female form a beautiful thing, that does not make me a rapist."

To feminists, you are a latent racist.

These neo-puritans are folks whose biggest dreaded fear is that somewhere there is a man out there enjoying life and the attentions of a woman.

363 "The women get to display and present. If you are attractive and react, all is well.
If you are not attractive and react, you get punished.
But the women get to decide."

SNL got that concept covered:

365 "283.  In short, how can I POSSIBLY convince a young man to respect a women's sexuality if girls won't do it themselves?"

BRILLIANT.

#SlutCulture How can we convince hormone-charged young men to respect women's sexuality if girls won't do it themselves?"

366 "The reason is because there's money in it, with government-funded universities and research groups and think-tanks churning out bad ideas at a fantastic rate."

Right. And standing up against the crap in the Univerities elicits the proggie howls of "anti-science" and "neanderthal" etc.

Nice racket the proggies got. BS galore on the taxpayer dime and a side order of kiddie indoctrination into their BS, so it replicates in the next generation like a virus.

367 Feminist website Jezebel asked why "the solution is to make girls cover up instead of Â… teaching boys to not be gross sexist pigs?"

#Bornthisway
Hey, if they're going to insist that gay is entirely biological and determinative, then I demand they not insist on straight males being and acting like straight males.
