Bloomberg "Reporter," Who By the Way Once Served as Head of Debbie Wasserman-Schultz' PAC, Headlines Story About Mike Pence's Possible Presidential Run By Noting He's a "Koch Favorite"
— Ace

Right in the headline.

Mike Pence, a Koch Favorite, Mulls 2016 Run for President

Here are some things that this "reporter," Jonathan Allen, deemed not worthy of a headline mention:

* That Pence is actually the current governor of Indiana. That seems sort of important.

* That he's a Republican. Bear in mind, the next election is an open-seat one, no incumbent. There will be challengers on both sides (well, one assumes Hillary will have challengers). So it's sort of important to note which nomination he's considering pursuing.

* That he's a former Congressman.

These are the various basis bits of biographical data which would usually occur to a reporter to include in a headline about a subject. Bear in mind, Mike Pence is not a household name; a headline would usually inform the reader about who the heck he is.

Well, Allen knows who he is, and he wants you to know: He's a "Koch favorite."

AllahPundit notes dryly:

If youÂ’re wondering why this otherwise prosaic Bloomberg piece about PenceÂ’s national future begins with a mention of the Koch brothers, itÂ’s probably because the guy who wrote it worked for Paul Sarbanes and, briefly, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz before resuming his career as an impartial reporter.

During the early-going of the 2012 cycle, I myself pushed a Pence run, reasoning that he would be a party-uniting figure.

He still could be. And he's worked in both the federal system, as a Congressman, and currently holds the position of Chief Executive of a state. That's a solid resume.

And speaking of Jonathan Allen, The Federalist has an interesting piece about the tactics used in coercive kidnap-and-brainwashing operations, as in the case of Patty Hearst.

And, interestingly, the similar tactics employed in political agitation.

Below, the Asch conformity experiment, name-checked in the article.

This is why many of us believe the Democrat Party is not the real enemy; the Democrat Party is just the Customer Service Division of Worldwide Socialism, Inc.

The real enemies are institutions that push a socialist lie on the public, 24/7.

Oh, and this is fun: ABCNews tried to get two of its reporters added to a Pulitzer Prize award -- one of them being Brian "I hear he may have Tea Party connections" Ross.

Apparently these reporters did little but take someone's previous print reporting, repackage it for TV, and broadcast it. But they want credit.

This letter refusing ABCNews' request is just delightfully bitchy.

And, Open Thread.

21 "the guy who wrote it worked for Paul Sarbanes and, briefly, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz before resuming his career as an impartial reporter."

Liberals get awfully worked up when, for example, retired Pentagon generals go to work for defense contractors. This is called "the revolving door". And is vocally denounced. In some ways with good reason.

When liberals move smoothly back and forth between the media and the Democratic Party, though, that's somehow not a "revolving door" any longer.

Of course, when you reflect that these are simply two halves of a seamless whole, everything becomes simpler. There's no door being transited in either direction. It's all part of what Andrew Breitbart summarized as "The Complex".

26 OT JokeÂ…Â…Â… A man goes into the hospital for a vasectomy. Before the procedure a very attractive nurse comes in and takes his vitals, then tells him to take all of his clothes of. When he is fully undressed she instructs him to lie down on the table. The man obeys. The nurse then takes all of her clothes off and climbs on top and has her way with him. Upon the completion of the act the man catches his breath and asks what that was all about. The nurse informs the patient that studies have shown that before a vasectomy if the man has an ejaculation, he will be more relaxed and that the cord is easier for the surgeon to locate and sever, thereby making the surgery safer, more efficient and quicker. The nurse then wheels the patient to the operating room. While they are going down the hall the patient looks through a window to the right and sees six men in a room masturbating. curious, the man asks," What are they doing in there"? The nurse responds, " They're preparing for vasectomies too, but you have Blue Cross, and they have Obama Care."

75 The real enemies are institutions that push a socialist lie on the public, 24/7. Ace, you may not realize how true your statement is. The Soviets spent an enormous amount of money to study the human psyche. The '60's were the result of that research: massive national trauma as the result of the assassination of President Kennedy rendered us psychologically vulnerable to an overpowering social force, namely the "Peace and Love Movement." This assault came at the nation from every possible direction at once. Notice that those who embraced this movement became the movers and shakers in the Clinton administration, and TFG's too. You'd shit yourself if you knew just how easy it was to brainwash people. You needn't be reduced to a drooling idiot, nor be broken as was Winston Smith, to be converted.

Bloomberg's got a virtual monopoly, and this is where he makes all his dough, so maybe an antitrust action might work, if you controlled the Justice Department and were willing to emulate Erich von Holder. Nah, dude, the best thing is to win the next big election. Rich guys play ball very quickly--since they have so much to lose-- and in the meantime he will give the NRA a great big fund raising boost.

148 I mentioned this here a couple of weeks ago. Intelligence tends to be distributed along a bell curve. Illustration here: http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-bell-curve.htm#graph Average intelligence is in the middle, below average intelligence is to the left, and above average intelligence is to the right. The majority of the population is found in the "fatter" portion of the curve near the middle. Most people range from a little below average to a little above average. The thin "tail" on the extreme right represent geniuses and the one on the extreme left represents the mentally retarded. So about half of the population is of above average intelligence and half is below average. Those who are above average are capable of understanding complex arguments and persuasion by logic and reason. Those who are below average have difficulty with this, and favor simple answers. I don't know how it breaks down by political affiliation, but let's assume that above average people are evenly distributed between Democrat and Republican. My contention is that the Democrats are making a concerted effort to sway people on the left side of the bell curve. If they can get them in their corner, they will have a permanent majority. So when we hear ridiculous slogans and accusations like "Racist!" "War on Women!" and "Koch Brothers!", the Democrats are not trying to persuade us by reasoned arguments. Rather, their target audience is dumb people, and they are simply pushing their emotional buttons and hoping for a visceral response. How do we counter that? By "we" I don't necessarily mean Republicans, but rather those who prefer liberty and limited government? Those concepts do not easily lend themselves to appeals to emotion.

Wait, what?

"One of these days there is going to be an explosion of violence"?

There certainly already is an explosion of racially motivated violence. It's just that you're not hearing much about it. Because it's not the sort of racially motivated violence that the left find useful to publicize.

A quick Web search for "white girl bleed a lot" will prove highly instructive.

169 "How do we counter that? By 'we' I don't necessarily mean Republicans, but rather those who prefer liberty and limited government? Those concepts do not easily lend themselves to appeals to emotion."

No, but there are certain issues which surely do.

The GOP used to regularly run on pocketbook issues, personal safety issues and national security issues, and win with those. Winning swing voters where needed. Because those things do matter to indie/swing voters.

Then George W. Bush managed to blow up national security as a winning GOP lever with two ineptly handled and failed overseas wars. He compounded this by losing pocketbook issues as a GOP strength, with an epochal economic meltdown on his watch.

Great going there by Dubya. Sometimes feels as though he had been a Democratic mole, when you couple in things like the Dread Justice Roberts.

The party can still get traction on personal safety issues. Witness the steady trend of state level victories on concealed carry. But that's not enough to carry a national level agenda. The lost credibility on pocketbook issues and foreign policy must be reclaimed.

To say the least, another Bush is the last thing the GOP needs. Yet that's just what the party elders are pushing. Facepalm.

215 The Pentagon is launching a “systemic” review of the entire military justice system that will look at how commanders convene courts-martial and impose nonjudicial punishments. The 18-month review of the Uniform Code of Military Justice “will help ensure the continued effectiveness of our armed forces and the fair administration of justice for our service members,” Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said in a statement. The aim of the review is to “provide both a step-back look at ways to improve how the UCMJ operates and a close technical scrub to address any discontinuity after decades of individual amendments,” according to the announcement. The review comes at a time of increasing concern among Pentagon leaders about sexual assault specifically and broader misconduct across the force after years of war. ??? 221 Veterans advocates are denouncing an opinion piece in the New York Times that draws links between veterans and white supremacist groups in attempting to explain the actions of the suspected gunman in a recent and deadly shooting outside a Kansas Jewish center. Frazier Glenn Cross, also known as Frazier Glenn Miller, is accused of killing three people outside a Jewish community center and Jewish retirement community on April 13, according to media reports. The Fayetteville Observer reported that Miller is a former Ku Klux Klan leader as well as a retired master sergeant who served in Army Special Forces. He was forced to retire in 1979 for distributing racist materials. In the opinion piece published in the New York Times, Kathleen Belew wrote that while the majority of veterans are neither violent nor mentally ill, veterans have a history of joining right-wing extremist groups. She cites a 2009 Department of Homeland Security Report linking the return of combat veterans to Ku Klux Klan membership. I am not sure who is a bigger enemy of the America I love: the NY Times or Homeland Security?

225 "I would give both my little fingers to have Noot and Tom Delay back in the House today. They understood politics and played the game very well. Not as good as the D's, but a lot better than the bunch in there now."

Which is a sad commentary, when you think of it.

Gingrich years: started off powerfully and productively. Then went totally off the rails. As Gingrich and Livingston the adulterers tried to impeach Clinton over adultery. (Yes, yes, I know. Perjury. But the voters saw it as over adultery. And parsed that as hypocritical.)

Note also the GOP congressional losses in 1998. When Newt refused to release threatened members to go home to campaign, and a number of the House vulnerables lost their seats.

DeLay years: domestic non-security spending up by one-third in real terms. 'Nuff said.

236 "[Pence will] call on President Obama to resurrect a planned missile-defense shield for Eastern Europe that Obama scrapped in 2009."

Here's the problem with that "shield".

It's a promising prototype. It doesn't work with adequate reliability yet.

More time and more money, a lot of both, are needed.

Bush couldn't be bothered to fund missile defense adequately with his two wars sucking up all of the money. Obama then cut back the program even further.

Deployment without mature designs is stupid. If we're serious about this stuff we have to do the actual tough real-world bloody-knuckles engineering. Including lots of costly, often inconclusive flight tests of hardware. If not, the thing is a pig in a poke.

328 So when we hear ridiculous slogans and accusations like "Racist!" "War on Women!" and "Koch Brothers!", the Democrats are not trying to persuade us by reasoned arguments. Posted by: rickl at April 16, 2014 08:16 PM (sdi6R) We condense the argument. We stand for freedom. They stand for Marxist socialism--and the Dems can bitch about misrepresentation and scream 'McCarthyism!' all they want, but such a claim would put them on the defensive. 332 Only if we elect Rs who are, you know, Conservative to offer it as an alternative. Big dearth of that right now. ---- But we are. Not in the numbers I would like, but we look at the republicans who are actually doing something or who have the influence today. Conservatives don't control the party apparatus, but they can no longer be totally ignored. That is progress. The old generation is slowly (and I stress slowly) fading away. But when I see all the young conservative leaders and talent out there, I am optimistic. Reforms are being made from the state house up. There is a conservative insurgency building in the Senate that has not existed for a long time. You don't need a majority, you just need enough to pull the agenda to the right. And not only that, they have the charisma and minds to pull it off.

People, (as Human Condition dictates), are proud, wishful and stubborn. ((grammie winger)) Your feelings are understandable, but not necessarily productive. You've allocated your diligence to other areas and perhaps, (God Forbid), relaxed and enjoyed life for awhile. Understanding on this topic, (I believe), is fairly universal. Say a prayer and God will assuage your self-perception of "slacking". You'll feel as bad as is "required" of your soul as long as God deems necessary. Which for you? ...shouldn't last that long. 396 Is the Moon going to be red again? I looked last night and I didn't see it. I might have missed the eclipse, altogether. I thought it was going to happen four days in-a-row? I was out at 3:30am and 4:30 am in Ohio.

397 Can you send him a card with a picture of you and those in your family he knows well? Or, even better, could you and your family members he would know could record something for him? Vendette, thank you! That's a very good idea. He always asked about my how my greyhound was doing, even though she's been dead a couple years now. I could send him copies of some of her pictures that I still have. He might like that . Thank you for the suggestion!

420 Grammie Winger, Don't feel bad, you don't know if he'd let you help. I know first hand how people with that fringing disease are. My mother did a lot to hide it, she wouldn't go anywhere with anyone except me & two of my cousins that were nine tears younger than she was. I don't recall her going anywhere with my older brother, she may have & I just can't think right now. She would have plans with our next door neighbor who was one of her best friends & then say she was sick. Everyone reacts differently. Last month on a Sunday I told my brother that I was going to call a neighbor because I hadn't seen them since fall & wondered if something happened to her 96 year old mother. I'm glad I forgot that day because her mother passed away that day. My brother brought me the obit a week & a half later. Her mother lived in one house & her daughter & husband live in next house.

421 Our older brat was friends with a family that rescued greyhounds. They were really nice dogs. Clingy though...which always disturbs me. I wonder how cruelly a dog has to be treated to become that skittish. It's not that they're raised cruelly. It's just that they aren't home raised. They are kept in kennels till race time, then put away. They are fed and their needs are met, but they don't know how to be in the real world. Like they don't know what steps are, or ponds, or patio doors, or a TV set. The world is strange and alien to them, so they cling. So so very sweet though.
