Sorry for the decoy post, but *this* thread is for the cool people and we're trying to keep those other people distracted. Don't tell them we're here.

Here, see. These are some animals that are not like other animals.

Rodent of unusual size.

Depressed turtle.

59 For this weekends's creative construction, I am building a little shack for my generator. Used to keep it in the garage but lots of stuff piling up in there. For the snows I moved it around to a place where there is a concrete wall dugout essentially, I don't know what to call it, but we have a below grade entrance to a utility room, and there is a concrete retaining wall there, two sides - goes out from the wall, then parallel to it. Made nice place for the generator in the snow - since I could easily run the cords where they needed to go - and I put a tarp up over it. Well, I like the location and as I said it frees up space in the garage. So I am building a little shack, with some storage up over it. It is surprisingly expensive to build - the lumber and assorted hardware from the Home Depot - I am going to spend probably a hundred bucks building this thing. Ouch.

111 64 Let my 5yo run the gas and steer a 4wheeler/ATV today, while I was sitting behind.  This causes a face splitting grin, so be careful Posted by: a better sock at April 19, 2014 11:01 PM (a6s+P) ------- I had the pleasure of using a giant, 52" zero-turn mower in the backyard last summer. My boy wanted to ride with me so I said "sure! Jump on." That thing hit at least 15mph as we whizzed by the pear trees. I was screaming in terror as he was laughing maniacally, trying to learn how to steer it. He talked about that for months. I still cringe to this day.

112 I don't understand. Where's the dessert? Our musical director has played the same postlude at Easter for five years running. Judas Maccabaeus by Handel. Lovely and suitable but COME ON MAN. I have one more hell week performance. One. Then 25 for dinner tomorrow.

116 Not a bunker. A shack. Like a dog house. Except taller. I am surprised at just how much a 4x8 piece of wood siding is. I know, I am in Northern Virginia, but wow. But, yeah, it's going to be a lot better having it there, and this will keep it out of the weather, and I am going to have some sound insulation as well, and some storage for the extension cords and all that. Okay, sounds like we're talking apples and C-130s here. Two different things. The ol' boys who cleaned out my septic tank a few weeks back said they thought a new code compliant double tank and new leach lines would be around $4k. Fuck me. Just clean the one tank out at $200 and I'll see you again in 4-5 years. I know everybody's got to eat but shit.

125 95 " try the Yakisoba stuff"  ------ Never heard of that. Posted by: Ricardo Kill at April 19, 2014 11:18 PM (VOHex) ------- From what I remember, yakisoba is the Japanese version of ramen. I just checked the package, and it says "product of USA." First time I had it years ago, it was a gift from a friend that brought it back from Osaka. I went to the commissary yesterday & saw it - picked up a few to try it. It was pretty good (for 59 cents). When I eat ramen, I tend to add shit - bacon & hard boiled egg is a favorite, eftover smoked sausage is good. this stuff was fine as is. I'll probably try the teriyaki beef tomorrow - that can be my contribution to the food thread.

138 Posted by: tbodie at April 19, 2014 11:34 PM Double feature, thanks for asking. First, the questionable can of chili from the dollar store was better than expected (as long as I'm not having my stomach pumped in the next 24 hours). The second course was a "beef flavor" ramen noodle soup, with a couple of packets of Taco Bell 'Fire' sauce added during the curing. I'm violating a personal principle by leaving dirty dishes in the sink overnight, but it's Saturday...

141 So, apparently, another shooting or something at the mall a mile or so from home... Local news is on the scene. I grew up being a mallrat there, but nobody I know will even go there for a last-minute Christmas gift now. Last one I remember making the new was when two cops were shot busting a drug deal - city councilman says "racism! Cops wouldn't even have been there if it was a Jewish mall!" Seriously. He said that (or something to that effect). Doesn't matter that the cops were black.
