The Obama Revenue Service: Multiple Investigations Into IRS Workers' Open Cheerleading for Obama
— Ace

O.R.S.

Even as the IRS faces growing heat over Lois G. Lerner and the tea party targeting scandal, a government watchdog said Wednesday itÂ’s pursuing cases against three other tax agency employees and offices suspected of illegal political activity in support of President Obama and fellow Democrats.

In one case the Office of Special Counsel, which investigates federal employees who conduct politics on government time, said it was “commonplace” in a Dallas IRS office for employees to have pro-Obama screensavers on their computers, and to have campaign-style buttons and stickers at their office.

In another case, a worker at the tax agency’s customer help line urged taxpayers “to re-elect President Obama in 2012 by repeatedly reciting a chant based on the spelling of his last name,” the Office of Special Counsel said in a statement.
OSC said it is seeking “significant disciplinary action” against that employee.
Another IRS employee in Kentucky has agreed to serve a 14-day suspension for blasting Republicans in a conversation with a taxpayer.

“They’re going to take women back 40 years,” the IRS employee said in a conversation that was recorded. The employee also said that “if you vote for a Republican, the rich are going to get richer and the poor are going to get poorer.”
That employee went on to tell the taxpayer she knew she wasnÂ’t supposed to be voicing her political opinions, and asked the taxpayer not to say anything.

Lois Lerner's lawyer commented, for some reason, questioning the timing of these revelations, calling it "odd."

And meanwhile the House Government Oversight Committee voted, on party lines, 23-14, to refer Ms. Lerner for criminal prosecution, for all the good that does.

Now Eric Holder gets to decide if he wants to prosecute one of Obama's minions for harassing Obama's critics. Gee, I wonder what he will decide.

Rich Lowry noted the obvious, that giving Lerner immunity to secure her testimony would be a double-edge sword. On one hand, you get her testimony. On the other hand, you don't get to prosecute her.

This is particularly a problem when you consider that Lerner's move, after securing immunity, might be to (possibly falsely) claim all responsibility and refuse to provide honest testimony about other actors in the 501(c)3 scandal.

Now, I know, hypothetically, that one could then prosecute such a hypothetical witness for perjury and strip him of the prior immunity. But then that all would just wind up referring the matter to... Eric J. Holder.

What we need is a true independent prosecutor, someone who could, if he found sufficient evidence, prosecute Lerner or anyone else who provably harassed citizens for political purposes.

And of course that's what Obama will steadfastly refuse to do.

Historically, these things have been forced on the Executive by a media which kept making the appearance of a cover-up a nagging issue for the Executive, presenting him with two bad options: Continue taking the PR hit of appearing to be protecting a misbehaving partisan employee, or roll the dice on an independent prosecutor, who might find no prosecutable crime.

But of course we're not in that world anymore. The media won't even suggest that perhaps Eric J. Holder and Barack Obama are not the most disinterested persons available to investigate their partisans in the bureaucracy... or themselves.

Now this one I have a hard time being   concerned about.   It's one thing if the employees were handing out those buttons and stickers to    the general public,  or even to fellow employees.   I would consider that to be political activity.   But if they were showing THEIR OWN political leanings, and weren't trying to proselytize to others?   Then I don't have a problem with it.  It tells me who the stupid people are in the office and whose opinions I can safely disregard.

I have said it before, but will say it again.   Every   one of us, and everyone we know, needs to write a real, paper letter to our senators and representatives about this.  They     generally don't read them, but if a stack of letters about the threat to the country the IRS is, they will be forced to take some action.

The IRS     has to be shut down.  Replace it with a consumption tax.   This organization has the ability to look at    your bank statements, investment accounts, real property - and to close those acccounts without a warrant.  Not to mention your medical records, now.   Given that we know for a fact that the     white house coordinated with the IRS tax exempt commissioner, and    we also know for a fact that the IRS leaked information to democrat groups, and we know for a   fact that they targeted conservative organizations, we cannot allow the IRS to continue in its present form.    They are a partisan organization that has    unprecedented access to their victims' personal information and account access.

41 I completely disagree on the need for an independent prosecutor. We do not need an unaccountable 4th branch of government (or 5th if we assume the executive agencies are basically already a 4th - but I digress). There is one executive, it is the Presidency. Congress has legitimate Constitutional means to try to force the President (and the executive branch) to prosecute if they decline. There are political remedies available as well. There in fact can never be a truly independent prosecutor because the Constitution does not allow it.

But hey, there's legal abortion (in 1974) and Planned Parenthood for the inevitable "accidents" that occur. If anything, that's what Dems think of women today (hiya there, Fluke!). If you want to tar Republicans for wanting to take women back, at least be accurate. We want the 1950s, when no woman worked, women were barefoot, pregnant, and in the kitchen fixing us a sammich. I know.    But it still exists.   I don't like the idea of criminally prosecuting someone for something that amounts to free speech, IMO.  If they get overly enthusiastic about it and start braying about how much they love Obammy and want to suck his big chocolate cock, then that's a matter for internal HR to handle.  I don't see it as criminal activity.    And I know damn well that if I started saying it was okay to treat such speech as    criminal activity, then the first time I    happen to mention something positive about Ted Cruz around the office my ass is getting    hauled off to jail.

Again, I don't know the specifics of the   Dallas    IRS   office    incident.   But if it's just some employees hanging up their "I LOVE OBAMA!" regalia in their cubicles, then    I'm not sold on it being a crime.   Just deeply, deeply stupid and inconsiderate.

You're car remains in the parking lot and so I'm am 100% ok with it being used to express whatever you want. But INSIDE the building you have a culture and that culture is defined by what is displayed and what is allowed to be displayed. The line must be bright, otherwise we're wasting our time. (And while I understand that we must fear government restrictions on speech, when you work for the government that calculus changes significantly. If you cannot leave your boosterism at the door, you're doing it wrong.)

No, it isn't.  What it is is a relentless grinding down.  We have no voice, no leader and no cause.  "Fuck the IRS" only works with people who pay taxes (i.e., not the FSA) and, it seems, only with conservatives.  The GOPe doesn't give a shit.

Who will organize a massive, country-wide tax strike?  Who would call for it?  And further, who would participate, seeing how the government is treating anyone who dares resist it (see the BLM in Nevada)?

They know we won't shoot first.  And if someone on our side did shoot, they would be instantly demonized, discredited and dismissed as a lone nut.  We've been ground down for so long that there is no will to resist.

I don't know why he would think it is odd. It was intended to help his client. Instead of the news being about how the management of the IRS conspired with Obama to shut down the political speech of his adversaries, instead the story is about ticky-tack stuff like someone having an Obama screen saver. Or even the worker who got in a conversation with a caller and voiced her personal opinion about how awful she thinks the Republicans are. Yes, there should be consequences for those employees. 162 Mangano and Sherman tallied the number of deaths in about 100 U.S. cities in the 14 weeks after the Fukushima accident, compared with the same time period from the year before. Projected across the entire U.S., the difference amounted to thousands of "excess" deaths. The study was titled "An Unexpected Mortality Increase in the United States Follows Arrival of the Radioactive Plume from Fukushima: Is There a Correlation?"

... let me get this straight, if I contrast the number of deaths in the US in the 5 years before before Jan 20, 2009 with those in the five years since, all those extras deaths were cause by Barack Obama (or is it that George W Bush saved more lives) ?

And YES, both comparisons are equally racist ... meaning none.

It's enumerated, all right, in the Northwest Ordinance, the "second constitution."

It should be a common sense issue. For every prior generation back to the dawn of history, people were expected to maintain a clean and professional workspace and devote their time at work to the tasks that they are paid to do. Alas, nowadays, the concept of going to work, doing your job, and acting in a professional manner are archaic, hateful, racists, sexist ideas foisted on people by evil, nameless and faceless corporations bent on exploiting people for profit and making employee's lives miserable. Still, I agree. Get the lawfare out of it. If it's my company and my building, I have the right to specify (or not) what is or is not appropriate office decor without fear of prosecution. If HOAs can prevent you from painting your house paisley and parking junk cars on your lawn, surely the owner of a company can specify limits on cubicle decor.

Another student, Nate Scimio, blocked the attack, however, by sticking out his arm as the blade came down.

"(Nate) took the stab right in his arm and saved my friend and me," McCool said. "I'm pretty sure it was his instinct. He didn't want anyone to get hurt. He told everybody to run away."

McCool said Scimio also apparently set off the fire alarm that sent students rushing to the exits. Scimio later tweeted a selfie from the hospital showing his right arm in a bandage...

That Scimio    is a good kid.      Bless him and his cool thinking.

235 nixon was president, the democrats and everyone who wanted some got their pound of nixon when he left office. it was in everyone's interest to let ford's pardon slide and move on. you may be right though that is not the case I would lead with. have we ever pardoned someone similar to lerner who was not convicted? ---- You just mean the politics are different. I was simply giving an example of a presidential pardon for someone who had yet been prosecuted let alone convicted.

238 In case you didn't hear, the "news" told us we hit a "milestone" with the March jobs report.

Yeah, we finally recovered all the jobs lost during the 2008 recession, (is how they put it).

No mention, of course, the increase the new entries to the work force since 2008.

241 Any notions of "Justice" being served by the racist, dishonest cockholsters in the current administration are fuck sideways two times till Tuesday.

The statutes of limitations won't run until well into the next administration BUT my guess is Holder's office will indict all of Teh Won's people  in the eleventh hour of the down low preezy's term with the empty suit issuing pardons within the next hour.  It will be late on a Friday and the administration will have a non-war Wag the Dog/Look a Squirrel!!! event for the dishonest media to breathlessly report on at the same time and for the coming days.

Assholes.

252 66 It's not only Lerner. The IRS employees went along with the whole deal.

as we also saw with parks and recreation along with shutting down monuments for political purpose.

we have some real issues everywhere.

Emphasis on "everywhere."  The bureaucracies have been salted to no end with 'rat fellow travelers, their unionized gubmint compemsation/bennies their reward.

Indeed, I read recently that Nixon couldn't have used the IRS against his foes if he wanted to.  Because he was Republican.

253 I wonder if gays are really ready for the backlash that will inevitably result as they continue to persecute and use lawfare against anyone who doesn't agree with them on everything. I mean, do they realize how easy it is to discriminate against them and get away with it? Only an idiot says "I'm not going to be able to take photographs at your gay wedding because it is against my religious beliefs." It's a lot safer to just say "Sorry, already booked that day" or "Sorry, I'm on vacation that week." Posted by: Formerly Sympathetic, Now Apathetic at April 09, 2014 02:12 PM (yhJhK) The gays know this. So their tack now is to call the photog, make all arrangements, sign contract, reveal gay wedding surprise. The only way I can see photographers getting around this is by insisting that both bride and groom must apply in person for photogs services, at which time scheduling conflicts will be evaluated. When both brides show up for appointment, calendar is full. Eventually, someone will get caught on that when it is learned that John and Jane's wedding was scheduled after Julia and Juliet attempted to schedule theirs. The government of the individual states have created this mess, by removing freedom to associate from their state statutes. By continuously adding every tiny grievance group to a list of MAY NOT DISCRIMINATE, until the list includes everyone and every behavior.(Let's face it, the NM photographer was fined for discriminating against a behavior, an act called a gay wedding. No proof or even charge that she discriminated against the individuals. The cake baker in CA had sold bakery products to the individual gays in her public baker for some time, it was only when they wanted her to engage in an event of behavior and she refused that she was sued and fined). This means that individuals can no longer decide what behavior they will and will not engage in. I'm not sure if this is fascism, maxism, communism, or what ism it is, but it sure isn't freedom. It's not even allowing your nation to have adults.

254 216 Personally I think it's dumb to refuse a client based on politics. If I were to do business only with people who have the same politics as me, I'd be broke pretty soon. I did some consulting work for a touchy feely let's all hug and sing kumbaya and the world will be a happy place type of non-profit. I didn't give a fuck. They paid my hourly rate just like everyone else. And I did good work for them. I disagreed with about 99.9% of what they stood for, but whatever. Greens trumps red/blue.

That being said I think it's insane that the govt can force you to conduct business with someone you don't want to conduct business with.

++++

I would agree in many circumstances, but I see a difference between transacting business with someone and being expected to embrace a lifestyle that is repugnant to you.

If I was a janitor, I would not want the contract for cleaning up at a gay bathhouse. I'm sure there would be others who would be happy to have the business, but it wouldn't be for me. If I were a photographer, I would not want to photograph a gay wedding. I don't want to be the one who is responsible for making sure the photos come out well. The couple is going to want pictures that they can look at for years and bring back fond memories of the occasion. The photographer would be the one who composes those pictures. Telling the couple to embrace for the next shot. Getting the kiss in a light that makes it looks good to those who are into that kind of thing. Not for me. Thanks, but no thanks.

256 Do you know anybody who works for the government? A former colleague went to work for the government and she tried to encourage me to go to work for them. It was amazing how she, in the same sentence, could speak about how great the money and benefits were for working for the government, and then go on to tell you how few people in government actually did ANYTHING! She was/is an accountant.

258 1. National sales tax and then eliminate the IRS. 2. Fundamental civil service reform, including the ability to fire civil servants in the same way that private sector employees can be fired. 3. Eliminate as many agencies as possible; or, failing that, reduce the functions of the worst agencies to the point where they are powerless to do harm. I'm looking at you, ATF.

Time was, the IRS was everyone's whipping boy (OK, no dog whistles in there, relax).  Both parties on the Hill would - sometimes unreasonably, unfairly - dog the IRS because ..... drum roll ..... political gold, that's why.  Duh.

So now is there some good reason the GOP cannot engage in what used to be standard (and bipartisan) reflexive easy cheap political hatchetry, but this time with gusto, and the added (sinister, unbelievable) issue of politicization of the IRS?

In a galaxy far far away, long long ago, the titanic, explosive, incredible political issues and scandals the GOP has stacked neatly (catalogued, pre-wrapped almost) on its electoral plate would have been unimaginable.  Because the country wasn't as lawless and debased, no major political party was as disgracefully irresponsible, arrogant, and alien.

But it's probably too much to hope that this November will be an even bigger national earthquake than 2010, and ABOUT SOMETHING, not just "give the other guys a chance" mindless lazy voting.  Yeah.  Too much to hope.  Just thought I'd not some basic political realities from another age (that would be, oh, 10 years ago, at most).
