Happy Monday.

Let's start with some data on old media versus new media, provocatively titled "Buzzfeed is the Future."

The Greek manufacturing sector grew for the first time in 53 months.

Gov. Jindal talked immigration, marijuana, and the death penalty on CNN's "State of the Union" yesterday. Rep. Ryan was also talking immigration on ABC's "This Week."

3 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Monday, February 03, 2014.  On this day in 1913 the 16th amendment was ratified giving the new progressive movement immense power that ultimately changed the character of the US from a mostly capitalist country to a socialist country.  It only took 52 years for the FSA to be born.

5 The normal super bowl blowout has returned.  Seattle beat Denver 48 – 3.   There has to be something wrong with the way they determine the teams. There have been 48 games and out of them only 16 of them have been competitive (1 TD or less spread)

7 Fox News' take on the Obama interview with Bill O'Reilly.  They strongly hint around that Obama was lying throughout the interview but don't come out and say it.  They also do not take O'Reilly to task for licking Obama's tiny sack.

http://tinyurl.com/q9pz9lw

The transcript for those who did not watch it.  The biggest thing I see in the interview is all the cases were Obama's response was an incoherent mumble.  So if one of the LIV's was watching this they should be cued right off the bat that Obama was lying his ass off.  But alas, LIVs don't watch Fox because that is one of the things that make them LIVs.  And the FSA just does not give a shit as long as they get their monthly check and EBT card.  (Which most of them will trade for a bowl of crack and a bottle of Ripple and then they will show up at the soup kitchen because they are hungry)

20 First in a series of articles about the Center for American Corporate Progress (CAP) by the DC.  Look at this excerpt for their purpose statement:

“We believe an open and effective government can champion the common good over narrow self-interest, harness the strength of our diversity, and secure the rights and safety of its people,” the think tank’s bio continues. “And we believe our nation must always be a beacon of hope and strength to the rest of the world.”

This is a sick joke.  The real statement should be "we seek to be rent seeking asswipes who will use government power to get laws favoring us, tax breaks, and all sorts of crony corruption.  We will get this through outright bribery we call campaign contributions."

Morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes.  Hope you all had a great weekend.  Today IÂ’ve got a couple of stories and then a bleg.

The 1991 Warren Beatty movie Bugsy is the story of mobster Benjamin “Bugsy”* Siegel, the founder of the Fabulous Flamingo hotel / casino in Las Vegas and one of the most flamboyant of American gangsters.  Two stories, however, never made it to the screenplay:

The first was a display of temper.  The Flamingo opened on March 1, 1947.  That weekend, to encourage visitors, free food and drinks were handed out, as well as hamburgers and hot dogs for kids.  People were encouraged to bring their kids, and one man who did was Abe Schiller.

Schiller was the entertainment director of the El Rancho Vegas and an enemy of SiegelÂ’s.  The mobster had heard Schiller was encouraging the comedians who played the El Rancho to joke about “that gangster up the road, Bugsy Siegel.”  So when Siegel saw Schiller, his wife and three kids in swimsuits gamboling around the FlamingoÂ’s swimming pool, he saw red.  He pulled out a gun and pistol-whipped Schiller to the ground, then forced him to crawl around the entire Flamingo pool while walking beside him, occasionally kicking him or firing a shot over his head into the pool itself.

Just in case anybody decided to be a hero, one of SiegelÂ’s bodyguards pulled out his own piece to keep Mrs. Schiller, the kids and the 200 or so frightened witnesses at bay.  And it wasnÂ’t until a broken, bleeding Schiller had crawled twice around the pool that Siegel ordered one of his other bodyguards to pick the man up and throw him out.

The second story is a little blue, so watch the kiddies.  It concerns SiegelÂ’s mistress, wannabe starlet Virginia Hill (the information card for her screen test noted her to be 24, 5Â’ 4” and 116 pounds), and her testimony before the Kefauver Committee on Organized Crime in Interstate Commerce in 1951.  During her appearance, Hill was asked about her relationship with Siegel and what, if anything, she knew about his death.  She easily parried the inquisitive Tennessee senator, infuriating him with her refrain of “I donÂ’t know nothinÂ’ about nothinÂ’.”

Then Kefauver made a mistake.  He began asking Hill about her income.  Why did so many men give her so much money? he asked.  There was a doctor in Chicago and two mobsters in New York.  There was Siegel, of course, as well as a millionaire in Mexico and a New York concert violinist.  All of these men, Kefauver pointed out, were giving the winsome Hill money.  A lot of money.  Year after year.  For no apparent reason.

“How come thatÂ’s the case, Miss Hill?” Kefauver asked.  Hill demurred, giving him a noncommittal answer.  But Kefauver, thinking heÂ’d finally pinned her to the wall, wouldnÂ’t let up.  He asked her again: why did these men give you money?

“Senator, are you sure you want to know why these men gave me money?” Hill asked.  “Of course I want to know, Miss Hill,” the senator snorted.

With her most innocent smile, Hill answered, “Senator, they give me money because I’m the best damn cocksucker in the United States!”

*the nickname came from SiegelÂ’s volatile temper, thought to be either a result of too many punches to the head or a family inheritance.  The name was only used by those who didnÂ’t know Siegel; you took your life in your hands if you ever used it to his face.

And now, the bleg.  IÂ’m going to hold off on any more stories for a while, because IÂ’m going through the next draft of my new Theda Bara mystery, The Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of.  IÂ’d like feedback, so if any of you are interested in being beta readers, I would appreciate it.  IÂ’m making my way through chapters, so IÂ’d be sending out one at a time, rather like a new Dickens novel.  If this sounds like fun to you, then please e-mail me through my nic.

I've got  an hour-long meeting to sleep through.   Hope you all have a wonderful day.

48 What that tech article does not address is that many, I am sure, do what I do on Twitter and share/retweet something that looks like it might be interesting to our readers, but don't always read the article ourselves. If I have to pay to read the articles I am actually interested in, and keep track of the number of "freebies" before I have to start paying, then I will stop tweeting the links that look like they might be interesting and go directly to either Buzzfeed, or another source, and share ONLY the articles that I have actually read. This is precisely what happened when the UK Telegraph started limiting the number of free articles per month. Instead of reading it every day now, I only read it once or twice a week, and I am very selective as to the articles I click on, sharing very few of their articles now. If I load my followers TLs with a bunch of crap behind a firewall, I will lose my followers and, for me, the interaction with them is the only reason to use Twitter. Buzzfeed, and others, need to think long and hard about the pay-go system.

Can't quite agree, JJ. My experience -- and it dates back a ways -- includes time spent with various Liberal Jewish Women whose bras -- and everything else -- popped open with relative ease, with results that were pleasing on both visual and haptic levels. Subsequently, a good time was had by all me.

I will grant that, in the main, their attitudes and beliefs were stereotypically annoying. But damn, some of them could dance the Horizontal Mambo!

And more than one could have challenged Virginia Hill on her famous assertion as recorded above b MPPPP....

52 And.... note. While I hate most forced-advertising, such as on You Tube, the 'skip' button on some the ads makes the 5-secs of required viewing palatable. Even better, Weatherbug has cleverly figured out that if they offer two ads, and let me pick which I'd prefer to watch, that I stick around through the entire thing. It's a very clever trick. I don't feel as though something about which I have no interest is trying to sell me, so I don't resent it.

Pete Carroll has a truly punchable face; he looks like he has a few scars on his mug so I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person who feels that way.  I visited a friend who had his gall bladder removed so I didn't get to maintain my multiyear Superbowl boycott.  What I saw of the game sucked maximum cock.  Fox devoted all their fucking programming to the dickhole game including FNS, which was pretty funny watching that asshole Chris Wallace acting like he knew something about football.  That FNS was all about football is part and parcel why I boycott the game and fut fuck Roger Goodell is the rest of the story.  If the fuckhead Seattle fans burned the city down I'll consider that a net plus.

55 Worst Super Bowl ever. *** I wouldn't say worst ever. I had hoped for a hard-fought game, and really believed we'd get one: Denver's O against Seattle's D looked promising. Despite the blowout, Seattle, even when the win was inevitable, never stopped playing. They continued to fight and didn't back down and THAT I enjoyed watching. I didn't really have a dog in the fight. I have always liked Denver and never really payed much attention to Seattle because I rarely get to watch the games, but I was pulling for them last night and they delivered. Something else, playing fantasy football keeps me even more engaged throughout even the bad games.

For the most part, that means we work together and get things done. At the end of the day, we're all Americans. Well, except those that are here illegally...and the FSA...and hipster douchebags. I think the best way to proceed with an impeachment of the JEF would be to take the Articles of Impeachment written for Nixon and just change the name, the date, and a few minor details.

And then publicize the sh*t out of the fact that the Articles being used were originally written by Hillary Rodham (Clinton).

Vic, a trick I have used is to wrap a tie-down strap around the tread and tension it as much as possible (with the tractor weight off the tire).  This usually centers the tire on the rim and allows you to get the bead on the rim, before you hit the air.

I use the rope to do that.  It is still a pill.  The first time I tried to pump up one of those small tires w/o that I spent all morning trying to pump it up, even going to a commercial air station and pumping in $2 worth of quarters for high flow air.  All was to no avail.

I went to a lawn mower place with the tire/rim and was going to get them to pump it up.  Alas it was Saturday and the shop was off for the day.  The owner told me about the rope trick.

.

.

.It would be only $1.50 for my entire heating bill when I lived in Connecticut.  2/10ths of a cent per gallon and I typically used 750 gallons a season.  Not that I like any new taxes but that one is going to get lost in the background noise of anyones average bill.

At least, I've,dodged the barrel a couple of times that way. But I've noticed it can still be defeated sometimes. Wonder if two open tags without closers would do it. I am not going to try it just to find out. That barrel smells funny.

The only tie-down straps I have are "springy" bungee cords and you could not get enough compression from those before they broke. I had to really shower down on the rope before I could get the seal. .

I don't know if he's independently wealthy or makes enough money through the sales of his books, but he's the least mercenary of any of the talk radio bunch I've heard.  He gives free copies of his books away to many callers and all of his podcasts are free.  Maybe his Landmark Legal Foundation is well financed but I have a feeling there's a lot of pro bono work.  Since he worked under Ed Meese in the Reagan administration, I'm sure he's part of a fairly significant legal network.

I don't know if this was reported here earlier but according to Levin on Friday, Breitbart stated that over 2/3 of Repubs at the Cambridge retreat were opposed to an immigration bill.  W.T.F?

There's a Cleveland area black conservative, Todd Allyn, who has a one hour show on Thursdays from 4-5 on WELW that I'd recommend.  He and his on air partner, The Conservative Sage, just ridicule the JEF mercilessly in ways that might be problematic to a white broadcast person.  There are podcasts at the station site which are free if you want to sample them.  Last Thursday when they talked about the state of the union speech is particularly funny.

Vic, wrap a rope or garden hose tightly around the center line of the tire. That will squeeze the beads out to the rims enough for reinflation.

re the VA law to stop/penalize local politicos from conducting lawfare against residents -- I like the concept, especially the part where officials can be held personally financially responsible for damages.

It's hard to rein in some of these local gubmints; they are run like mini Chicagos. Here in MS, for example, the legislature took away the power for county sheriff offices to run radar after a long series of abuses. So unless the law has been recently changed, county mounties here don't sport radar guns.

Would that work on a small tire for a lawn tractor.  Wouldn't it leak right back down when you took the pump off and tried to put the core back in?   Also using one of those small home air pumps.

But anyway folks, I rarely have this problem because I know it leaks down.  Normally during the winter I take it out at least one a month, pump the tire up, and ind drive it around the yard to keep in in good shape.

Unfortunately this winter has been such shit that the few good days that occurred I had stuff stacked up to do outside besides that and it just slipped my mind.

210 HereÂ’s the problem: According to recently declassified testimony of Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, before the House Armed Services Committee in October, the U.S. military regards itself as legally barred from going after the perpetrators of the Benghazi attacks (and, presumably, others who attack Americans) unless they are affiliated with al-Qaeda. The Obama administrationÂ’s parsing of words to deny al-QaedaÂ’s direct involvement effectively precludes a military response in these situations.

Doing this with weight on the tire is problematic.  If you jack it off the ground reseating is much easier.  As note above, once seated, you can then screw in the core even if it deflates.

But look at it this way, the people hit hardest by this tax most likely are in blue States who voted for their Toyota. I live in MA one of the bluest states & have always voted republican, except in last summerÂ’s special election to replace Kerry. It was Gomez & I wouldnÂ’t cast a vote for a D that called himself an R. No worthy republicans run. Brown lost his seat because he lost the support of conservatives here. Yes, we have a lot of them. People voted for Brown but didnÂ’t give donations etc because as someone said on radio show, he didnÂ’t dance with the one who brung him. Brown voted with the Ds too many times for me. I wouldnÂ’t give him a cent. I know he was a RINO but expected a bit better from him.

219 Would that work on a small tire for a lawn tractor. Wouldn't it leak right back down when you took the pump off and tried to put the core back in? Also using one of those small home air pumps. Ahhhh. Much harder that way. Compressor or tire machine had the power. Before removing the hose, have valve core & tool ready to go. Help with three or four hands. One to pull hose, your two to guide & screw in valve core.

Yes, pondering that too.  Been thinking about going down to an auto parts store and getting a can of "stop leak" and squirting in it.  Lawn mower tires never wear out and unless you have spurious nails and shit in your yard should need to be changed. So dismounting one with that crap in them shouldn't be a problem.

226 Carol, Yammer isn't a public thing. Only accessible by those in my company. You join groups based on your job (R and D, etc) and so my boss's boss who is in CA can keep us easily posted on their projects out there and vice versa. It actually may end up being a good thing, considering one of our major roadblocks is a lack of communication between the CA and TX facilities.

From the perspective of an outsider, Scotty Centerfold kept his work on voting against 404Care but then got way too comfy with Lurch and voted for dogshit like Dodd Frank and other steaming piles.  If it's a choice between voting for a lying commie like Dances with Vibrators or going for a donk-lite, why not go with the real deal?

236 It actually may end up being a good thing, We've had Yammer for maybe three or four years. It hasn't improved communication, at least for us: it's mostly used for dumb 'we're great!' cheerleading. And nothing is more irritating than having a link to an announcement on Yammer emailed to you. Why not just email? Why do I have to log in to Yammer? Things have actually gotten worse, since most people just ignore Yammer links.

244 I have taken to the pre-cooked bacon, warming it in the microwave. It seems expensive, but when you consider how much of your bacon gets cooked away, its not too bad.

--

I usually repel foods that are "pre-cooked" anything, but the bacon is not bad.  It's actually perfect if you just need a few pieces for a recipe.  Warms up in the skillet great and saves the hassle of a kitchen full of grease.  Of course, I still have to cook up the real stuff to obtain a fridge container full of the holy grail substance known as bacon grease.

253 The Limitations of Capitalism

They have had that column up for a few days and I haven't linked it and here is why.  How in the hell would we know if there are any limitations>  We started moving away from capitalism in the late 1800s and we have had almost none since FDR's reign of shit happened.

We are a socialist nation now, heading deep into communism now since Obama was elected with both houses of congress and no opposition Party.

254 You can just put your thumb over the valve opening on the tire after you blow it up. then put the core in very quickly. I put some emergency tire slime in mine because there's thorn weeds here and the tires get nicked. Only have to reinflate onse or twiice a year.  Tubes are good and fairly cheap.
