What's Flying Over Your Head Right Now?

Well go here and find out. Or you could create your own local aircraft radar-map with a cheap $20 dongle and some software. I'm just waiting on a good discone antenna and an LNA to set up my own monitoring system.

The Thugs Get Their Man

Brendan Eich is out at Mozilla. His crime: Giving $1000 to the Prop 8 campaign which was passed by a majority of Californians in 2008. And having the same views on gay marriage that Obama publicly stated circa 2007. Therefore he must be shunned and kept unemployed.

And Mozilla in the midst of self-congratulation is blind to the beam in their own eye:

Asian #CancelColbert Activist Calls For Race War...Maybe?

Actually her statements are so muddled and contradictory that it's hard to say exactly what in the hell she's calling for...or rejecting...or maybe both simultaneously. Because she's not gonna let herself be oppressed by the white man's logic and tyranny of words with fixed meanings.

About the only things you can clearly conclude from her ramblings are that 1) she thinks "racism" is bad 2) she hates white people, and 3) she's chosen the Margaret Cho career path except with less funny and more activist anger.

What Liberals Condemn As "Cultural Appropriation" Is Actually Called "Learning"

What Jarrar condemns as "appropriation" is actually "learning." It is the transmission of new ideas, and the more sources they come from, the more vibrant the culture.

A lot of people traced the disturbing implications of Jarrar's view. Eugene Volokh asks why we don't complain about Asian musicians who play Beethoven-accompanied by a photo of Yo-Yo Ma.

Jarrar's rebuttal to defenders of cultural mixing: You're just whites who are whitesplaining.

RSM Responds to Internet Douche #2014-137

Two words for you, Greg: Individual responsibility.

Cultures don't rape people. Rapists rape people. What is objectionable about these endless "rape culture" lectures is that they represent an effort to demonize all men, to create a collective responsibility for crimes committed by individuals. Or, allegedly committed, as the circumstances in some cases are strongly disputed.

...The problem, which is rampant on university campuses, is that there is a Hook-Up Culture, a Friends With Benefits Culture, and a Let's Chug Vodka Until We're Nearly Comatose Culture, all of which lead to situations in which "consent" is a he-said/she-said dispute, where evidence is ambiguous or non-existent, and where some people want us to disregard all due process protections for the accused.

A porn star who was the face of a German far-right party has been fired - because she has sex with a black man in her latest film.

Ina Groll, who goes under the porn name 'Kitty Blair', had been widely featured in a high-profile campaign by the National Democratic Party of Germany (NDP).

She encouraged men to join the party by standing outside election polls dressed in revealing outfits.

But the blonde model has now been fired after senior NDP officals watched her latest porn film - and discovered she had slept with a black man.

Graffiti Artist Arrested For Vandalizing Graffiti

An artist who defaced several works of famed graffiti artist Banksy has been charged with the crime of vandalism -- which is pretty incredible since Banksy's collection is itself an act of vandalism.

David William Noll has been charged with FELONY vandalism.  According to the criminal complaint -- obtained by TMZ -- Noll defaced 2 of Banksy's most famous works -- Girl on Swing and Peeing Dog.

17 I have a question for the Horde. My son is in the 3rd grade. He was studying for his math test tomorrow with my husband. One of the problems has him finding the missing length of the side of an object. They went all the way to a problem that said 2+3n=11, solve for n. Does this seem out of line for a 3rd grade lesson on perimeter and area? Hell, I don't remember anything from that year except learning cursive.  Thanks, Peaches.

49 They went all the way to a problem that said 2+3n=11, solve for n. Does this seem out of line for a 3rd grade lesson on perimeter and area? It may not be meant to be algebra, even though it is. The first thing I notice is that it doesn’t even involve fractions. So it may be just asking him to realize that if he moves the 2 over, he’s just being asked, 3 times what equals 9? That said, while I’m not sure it’s out of line for a third-grader, it does seem a bit advanced if they’re actually using the “solve for n” terminology. We did cursive in 2nd grade (actually, I did cursive in first grade—we had a small Catholic school with 2 grades per room and the nuns alternated each side giving the other side work to do; I thought these strange runes were so cool, I rushed through my first grade homework to practice, which I think is why my handwriting sucks so much today). I can’t remember when we got into the xn+c forms. Or what we were even doing for math in grades 3-4. I don’t think we did that, though.

53 Atari Pac Man. The memories... People have slammed the guy who wrote the program for Pac Man, but I don't think we should blame him. Atari gave him a very limited amount of time to develop the game, and also insisted he keep the game small enough to fit in a 4KB cartridge. The whole game, including art assets, in 4096 bytes of space, and running on very limited hardware. (I'm typing this on a computer that has over 16 billion bytes of RAM... an Atari 2600 has 128 bytes of RAM. And the CPU in this computer is at least ten thousand times faster... a 4 GHz 64-bit processor with lots of cache, vs. a 1 MHz 8-bit chip! It must have been hard work to write those old games.) The later Ms. Pac Man game looked much better. And, it had an 8KB cartridge (double the size) and presumably more time spent in development. I think Atari believed the "Pac Man" brand was so strong that any game with that brand would succeed. History shows otherwise.

77 So, being that this is the first day I've made it through without serious levels of medication in a while....

I've been doing a road trip through the low country of GA and SC with the BH. Thanks to restaurant recommendations -- we did Huey's on the river in Savannah before we both got completely incoherent; and we've now done Slightly North of Broad and The Wreck in Charleston. These were most excellent suggestions and and I thank the Horde for sharing them....and when I'm feeling better still and back with my beloved 23" readable monitor and email archives, I may even dig out who said what.

This is my first trip to the Georgia coast, though I have been to Georgia before.....

Ol' Cthulhu went down to Georgia, lookin' for some minds to steal.
He was in a bind -- 'cos he was way behind -- and he was willin' to make a deal.
When he came across this young man sawin' on a fiddle and playin' it hot.
And Cthulhu jumped upon a hickory stump and said: "Boy let me tell you what:

"I guess you didn't know it, but I'm a fiddle player too.
"And if you'd care to take a dare, I'll make a bet with you.
"Now you play a pretty good fiddle, boy, but give eldritch his due:
"I bet a font of wine against your mind, 'cos I think I'm better than you."
The boy said: "My name's Johnny and it might be a sin,
"But I'll take your bet, your gonna regret, 'cos I'm the best that's ever been."

Johnny you rosin up your bow and play your fiddle hard.
'Cos R'lyeh now gates to Georgia and Yog-Sothoth deals the cards.
And if you win you get this endless source of wine.
But if you lose, Cthulhu gets your mind.

Then Cthulhu opened up his case and he said: "I'll start this show."
And ichor dripped from his fingertips and rosined up his bow.
And he pulled the bow across his strings and it made an evil hiss.
Then a band of shoggoths joined in and it sounded something like this.
When Cthulhu finished, Johnny said: "Well you're pretty good ol' son.
"But sit down in that chair, right there, and let me show you how its done."

Madness walks among us, flee women and chile.
Cthulhu's in his house on the risin' isle.
Chicken in the bread pan, pickin' out dough.
"Granny, should a rock bite?"
"No, child, no."

Ol' Cthulhu bowed his head because he knew that he'd been beat.
He laid that miraculous wine font on the ground at Johnny's feet.
Johnny said: "Cooth, just come on back if you ever want to try again.
"cause I told you once, you son of a gun, I'm the best there's ever been."

And he played Madness walks among us, flee women and chile.
Cthulhu's in his house on the risin' isle.
Chicken in the bread pan, pickin' out dough.
"Granny, should a rock bite?"
"No, child, no."

But such is the nature of madness, that it always twists and turns.
Until such time as it can make its way inside and start to burn.
And as Cooth stumbled offstage while johnny kept his mind,
He quietly chuckled to himself, "wait 'til he tastes the wine."

82 >>>Asian #CancelColbert Activist Calls For Race War...Maybe?<<<

Kinda reminds me of another story I'd seen recently. Jeremy Clarkson and Top Gear are being sued by some Indian "actress" after their episode where they attempt to build a bridge over the River Kwai.

From the article (whole thing in nic)- "Towards the end of the episode, after the rickety bridge was constructed, Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson stand at the end admiring it. As a local man is crossing the bridge, though, Clarkson remarks that "there's a slope on it," ostensibly commenting on the shape and slant of the bridge. Now, for those not up to date with their racist phrases, "slope" also doubles as a derogatory term for people of Asian descent. Knowing this, it certainly looks like Clarkson's statement could have been more than just unfortunate timing."

"This whole affair has left Somi Guha, an Indian-born actress, rather angry. She's so upset by Clarkson's use of the phrase that she's retained a group of lawyers called Equal Justice to sue the BBC for one million pounds ($1.66 million), accusing the network of airing of "casual racism," according to her written complaint to the BBC. Anglophiles or Brits will know Equal Justice as the group behind the Big Brother racism lawsuits."

""Jeremy Clarkson has made derogatory comments about Mexicans. Now he bullies an Asian person. It has to stop," Guha said in her statement."

So, according to liberals it actually is racist cultural thievery for non-whites to make a Santa that isn't white?  I ask because I fairly distinctly remember liberals explaining it was racist for whites to insist on keeping St. Nick to ourselves.

Back in college, I used to drink Bacardi 151 for the joy it brought when the next guy couldn't.

....and then there was the charming little layered drink we used to pour -- the "green death". Freeze a bottle of standard 80-proof green Creme de Menthe, 100-proof clear peppermint schnapps, and 151-proof straw-colored Bacardi.

Take a shotglass, and pour them under each other -- fill the shotglass 1/3 with the rum, then slowly trickle the schnapps along the side of the tilted glass until you were 2/3 full, then slowly trickle the cdm along the side to finish. You end up with a strikingly layered drink (because of the large differential in specific gravity) that leaves a cool, minty, fresh aftertaste....and can mess you up in short order.

I always wondered about the last line in the original. I’ve never been certain the devil lost. “I’m the best that’s ever been” is showing quite a bit of Pride. And a fiddle of gold can buy quite a bit of badness.

185 "Carter Blames Jews for Obama's Snubs"

And the Jews killed Kenny! Or that other guy with the name with five characters. The Jewish plumber? Something like that. I can never keep it all straight.

Anyway, Carter is frantic now that there's actual competition for the championship belt of Worst President Ever, and he's dialing up his game.

The latest is that Iran have, in their latest barehanded-slap-across-the-face to the USA, nominated a new UN envoy. The kicker here being that this envoy was, in the late Seventies, among the screaming student radicals who took the staff of the American embassy in Tehran hostage.

Any American administration with a spine would say, "No way, Ray. You can name this guy as an envoy, but to get to the UN in New York, he has to cross American soil, and we're not letting that fucker anywhere near. Find someone else."

This is not an American administration with a spine. The Secretariat of State is absolutely desperate to keep his ludicrous "disarmament" deal with Iran going, and the mullahs are contemptously demanding that he credential this thug. Or else the deal is off.

So Carter says -- and who could have seen this coming -- that Obama and Kerry should let the guy in, because he was a "college student" back in the day and can't be held responsible today for what he did.

Oh, of COURSE. A college student. Why didn't the rest of us realize that?

Now if there's one thing on which I'm sure we can all agree, it's that streaking, swallowing goldfish, and loud keggers with puke on the lawn, and even throwing a burning couch off the roof of the dorm, are _exactly morally equvalent_ to violently sacking an embassy (which is sovereign soil of the country it represents) and taking its diplomatic staff hostage at gunpoint. Precisely comparable!

The remaining few left over (due to FF not recording the usernames) I had to re-enter by logging into the sites. On a side note, I really don't care if people want to stick with Firefox. My dumping it may be nothing more than a symbolic act (much like switching voter registration from R to I) but, until the bullets start flying, it's all I can do to show my objection to the ever-increasing fascism being promoted by the left. Anyone who accepts that statement is a sociopath. It's just not possible to reconcile. And there are a shitload of sociopaths running around. Everybody draws lines, the problem with the left is they *always* draw the absolute red line right at the edge of their territory. It is not possible to disagree with them in a civil way because disagreement is automatically uncivil - they see no difference between a Nazi and a CEO who gives $1k to front a marriage definition amendment. Also, the IRS leaked the shit for this specific reason - to target political enemies, who to the left are anyone "not of the body." Yeah, world gone bloody mad, as it always does.

254 "I use [Bing] almost exclusively, except for maps sometimes. The main reason I use it is because it is not Google"

I shifted to Bing when Google -- who promised, cross their heart and hope to die, that they would never accept money for ranking in their search results -- started accepting money for ranking in their search results.

I don't care if they do that. I do care that they flagrantly lied about their original pledge never to do so.

For all I know, if Bing gets more of an audience, they might start to pull the same dishonest crap. But for now they seem on the up and up, and I use them happily.

Also, staying away from Google means I don't have my head explode from the asshole Google execs doing all of the following:

(a) Pouring money into the campaigns of Barack Obama and his endless quest for higher taxes, while Google engages in incredibly elaborate international legal-financial maneuvering to shield their overseas profits from taxes.

(b) Whining sanctimoniously about "global warming", while maintaining a fleet of luxury jets for themselves at Moffett Field. And buying the fuel from those jets from federal pumps at Moffett at way below the actual market price of jet fuel. A not well remarked scandal.

(c) Bitching about "invasion of privacy" when their own sleazy adulterous dalliances are mentioned, while assisting constantly in the invasion of the privacy of everyone else in the world.

It can, but you're going to go to command-line driven, manually probed and exhaustingly configured device driver hell if you try to run it on truly antique hardware.

There are a few obscure and/or old versions, like Puppy or Slack, but they are still kind of heavy for a 486. Even Kolibri, an operating system with a GUI that runs in 8 Mb, requires a Pentium. The biggest problem is compatibility. You can run DOS or Win 3.11 or OS/2 or old old Linux or Unix flavors just fine, they just don't mesh well with modern things like, you know, the internet or any other software, or updates. Unfortunately when people say "Lightweight" these days they usually mean "single core P4 or better with 2Gb RAM."

I haven't given Bing a full comparison on that score, but, but Bing's just MS instead of Google. And I'd like to de-MS-ize, as well, right? Then there's YouTube. Everything's on YouTube. Easy to access, embed, and did I mention everything's on YouTube. If it's not, it's a hassle. And guess who owns YouTube. Go on, guess. Then there's Google Statistics. I've got that attached to my website. Beats the built-in stats for the website management software, but, but, that's the very heart of the matter, Google stats and their use, right? Then I got this cell, and it's based on .. hm.. something called Android. Who's that? MS? Apple? IBM? NoNoNo, it's... guess who, again! Monitoring your every keystroke. How handy voice-to-text is. Funny thing about this flight, her company wants to send her to Idaho for training, but she didn't want to fly for business unless she was familiar with the procedures, so that's the up-front reason for the Baltimore trip.

So...unreasonable, or not unreasonable? (notice how I very carefully have not asked any of the Baltimore area roonz/ettez to check up on her for me? I think that is showing a great deal of restraint, don't you?)

296 "I have heard that Linux can run on the old 486 architecture and do amazing things."

Oh! Also, per Merovign's comment, there's a generational issue.

Modern Linux distros will look to see which flags the CPU returns when queried, to determine which of many functions it supports.

The PAE and NX bits (and possibly others) have to come back positively from the processor, or else the kernel will not be able to run, and Linux installers will quit. This excludes 486 and early Pentium hardware.

A few distros have had people brew up custom builds to allow modern kernels to run on classic processors. I'm not sure that the fuss is worth it.

PJ's foreword or something to Parliament of Whores has a hilarious essay commenting on each element of the Preamble to the Constitution.  Favorite part I recall went something like "the 'common defense' is now so well provided for that even uncommon things like Saudi Arabians are defended by it".

His stuff really is brilliant and has no precise analogue I'm aware of (Steyn at his best is similar).

Another classic was when he pointed out that the Palestinian intifada (rock-throwing, version 1.0) would have driven the Israelis out in hours if it had occurred in Panama (home of so many good baseball players).  But Pals, like many throughout the world, have no throwing sports, and throw like girls.  Genius.

Or how, when he immediately went on a trip to visit Libya after the 1986 US bombing, the French were surly and the Libyans at Charles d'Gaulle were unfailingly friendly.

Or his comment on the Sandinistas and lessons of revolution:  "it's one thing to burn down the outhouse, another to install indoor plumbing".

I lived, for many years, very close to SMO and when they flew the formations of  the old aircraft, it was a complete mindgasm.  One of the coolest things I've ever seen.  Now, of course, the people's republic of Santa Moronica is trying to kill off the airport in its entirety.  I hope they all die in a killer quake.

My orthopedic surgeon was a drunk & drug addict & I did not know it. He was arrested in January 2005.i went to pain doctor in my area, they were idiots & gave me just enough for a week or two & overmedicated me. I went days w/o eating & sleeping & still went to work. Those fools gave me Duragesic pain patch & I found out a year or so later you need fat to metabolize it. My arms are all muscle, from years of rose gardening & 8 years of aerobics & weights at gym. 332 Modern versions of Linux check your computer hardware to see what it is and isn't capable of doing, and then adjusts the installation to best fit the abilities of the system. If there are things it needs the system to do which it can't, because it's very old and lacks essential modern features, then it won't install.

333 A Glimmer of Hope for Free Speech in Australia Australia’s 1975 Racial Discrimination Act, in section 18c, makes it illegal to cause someone else to feel offense if that offense is racially based. In effect this means that incorrect thinking will be banned. There are a few “exceptions” in 18d, but that is an affirmative defense where one must show that the statement was made in “good faith” and was not a “lie.” A recent case where a man, Andrew Bolt, was found guilty of giving racial offense and “lying” by simply saying that some people who call themselves “aborigine” are mostly racially and culturally not “aborigine” and that is was ridiculous that they should put themselves forward as leaders of the “aborigine” people. Apparently, that that the targets of his belittlement disagreed somehow proved that their opinion was fact, and that those who dissented were thus guilty. Australia’s Attorney-General wants to change that. Unsurprisingly he is being attacked for saying a person has a right to be a bigot More: http://politicalhat.com/?p=5469

Re the sound of WWII aircraft, in 2007 (?) at the Chino Air Show, as a parade of 40+ WWII warbirds flew past, the announcer said "I will now go silent so we can all enjoy ..... the 'sound of round'".

I think there were 5 P-38s, maybe 4, which was all/most of those still flying in the world.  At one point they escorted two B-25s in what one P-38 WWII vet, then joining in the narration, said was similar to what they had done in France and that he never thought he would see it again (he was choking up - along, I imagine, with many of us in the crowd).

I can't believe that I have to live with her right now....*le sigh*" At the risk being called out for gender apartheid, women (especially standups) are not naturally funny. It's evolutionary. Humor is designed to defuse potentially violent social situations related to pack grouping. Men are willing to self-slander for the sake of humor whereas a woman's "funny" story is usually about how something funny happened TO her or how someone else was being weird. More often than not, it's 10 minutes of a screed disguised as jokes. Rachel Maddow (a woman in the loosest sense of the term) actually thinks she's funny. Standups like Sarah Silverman are basically attempting humor in a male's voice- talking about diarrhea and herpes- and failing.

Shes super squeamish and i was proud she was really brave and watched the vet inject Uncle horse's owie with numbing agent and debride it yesterday. Uncle horse thinking it wasnt fucking numb enough dammit! Kicked the vet then stomped on his foot for emphasis. I was so unhappy. I sent him out for training and it was a disaster, and he got sent home, after making clear he would rather die than get started again under saddle by this guy. He bucked the sandbags they put on the saddle right out of the traing pen, then he bucked so hard he tore his shoes off. and in the process he tore a hole in his ankle and nicked a tendon sheath. But now i am pretty sure i know what happened to hom when i sold him and he came back almost dead...im fairly certain they gave hom to a mexican to break in, tho i told them he was not strong enough for any of them to ride. Because when he went to bucking he did it like hed had some practice, and you only get that ONE way. Super. well one mystery answered, and now a new one looms: Do we ever want to ride him or is he to be a permanent cat rancher?

I guess I need to point that out to the dead guy in the overturned car who was found a block from our house last year.

Your overarching point is correct that most of the deaths are directly related to drugs.
But, the circle of drug influence continues to spread from the city center outward every year.

Oh, and the guy who was shot in the car?

Wasted by the punk boyfriend of his step-daughter.
