NEWS

Marty O'Donnell, Bungie's composer of the last 15 years went to Twitter to say that he had been fired by Bungie without cause. As much as I wouldn't mind him going to 343 to work again on Halo, I'd prefer him to end up at Visceral to work on the upcoming Star Wars games. And of course, it didn't take long for forum warriors to jump on the news and crap on his work because he's conservative-ish.

NPD numbers for last month is in. PS4 outsold the Xbox One (ouch for Microsoft) and TitanFall was the best selling game (no shocker there). For year over year, software was in a huge slump, even with an avalanche of games with a 28% drop.

Sony sold off their shares in SquareEnix. Though Sony is in dire straights, I personally think this is a bad idea as it's not like the shares are worth that much atm.

• Cyanide showing off their upcoming Blood Bowl 2. I thought the first games were pretty good (but no FUMBBL) that were hampered by a lack of care with releasing so many standalone versions of the first game. If they had treated it as a platform with DLC for the new teams instead of what they did, I would have been more of a fan.

• DC has shown off a trailer for their upcoming Batman movie based on the Arkham videogame universe. Personally don't think it looks good

Activision does Xbox One owners a solid? Amazing Spider-Man 2 isn't coming to the XBox One. Considering that this is more than likely certification issues, I'm curious in how bad of a state this game is. And it's not like it's been looking hot in the previews. Be interesting in seeing how this is received next week.

Far and way, this is the best thing videogaming article of last week. It's a look at how Nintendo turned down the Skylanders series.

So yeah, it looks like Arc Systems (Guilty Gear and Blazblue) is making a BloodRayne game for some reason. Why this property is still alive, no one knows.

• Why? Why Not. COD: Ghosts is getting a Snoop voice pack (They're also working on a Gunny voice pack as well).

NEW RELEASES

Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure (PC) - Sixteen years later and Tex Murphy is still roaming the mean post-nuclear streets of San Francisco. Do you like cheese? Do you like a good FMV point and click adventure game? Well, Chris Jones is hopping that you remember Under The Killing Moon and Pandora Directive in this latest Kickstarter backed project. The cast includes Todd Bridges, June Lockhart, Kevin Murphy (Tom Servo) and others. Sadly Clint Howard isn't listed

Blackwell Epiphany (PC) - It's the end of the line for Rosa Blackwell and Joey Mallone in the final entry of the Blackwell series. Dave Gilbert and his crew at Wadjet has created a great little hard boiled paranormal series over the last 8 years in a 16-bit world. When it comes to point&click adventure games, it's hard to beat what Wadjet has created themselves or released. As always, expect some good writing and decent puzzles. I'll probably pick up the new Tex Murphy due to nostalgia but I'm more interested in this to be honest.

Demon Gaze (Vita) - NISA releasing a first person dungeon crawler by Kadokawa Games. Don't know much about it other than it's supposed to be pretty decent and it sold like crap in Japan. And like all games from NISA that isn't Disgaea, it's price will drop fast or go out of print.

5 Speaking of Tex Murphy, I still have my copy of Mean Streets on 5.25" floppies somewhere around here. I dunno if I still have the box, though, as it's not on my shelf. Hopefully, I've got it packed away. Anyway, I ordered a 2GB GTX 770 from Newegg this week for $300. Not a great deal, but a decent one. I'm hoping that I won't regret not waiting for a deal on a 4GB model. But, it'll be a nice upgrade to my GTX 460 which can't run most modern games at 60 FPS at 720P with all in-game quality settings set at max. The screen tearing is annoying on a 50" plasma.

Hell just keep an eye on that one for the next time a better deal shows up and pick up a second one and sli them.

8 as long as you game at 1080, the 2GB should do you good. Once you start downsampling, that's when you'll start running into problems

9 I'm looking to build a gaming rig in the near future, and I'm wondering what kind of monitor I should buy. I console game on a 55" Plasma. What's a reasonable size for a PC monitor? Also, where are people crapping on Marty O'Donnell for being conservative-ish? I didn't see anything like that at the link in this post.

10 Isn't that Steam Box supposed to be on the way?

Posted by: Boss Moss at April 20, 2014 11:50 AM (LJ7Ze)

11 For screen size, 27" is a good sweet spot IMO. Of course you can go bigger (even go projector) but that's about where I would look for a screen. And if you can swing it, a 120Hz monitor is a good investment. Sure, you have to be stuck with a TN panel but the fluidity is worth the trade off IMO

not there, just messageboards in general

already here, it's called a PC or HTPC

Posted by: The Dude at April 20, 2014 11:54 AM (bStrg)

13 I console game on a 55" Plasma. What's a reasonable size for a PC monitor? 55". Seriously, I have my PS3 and PC (and PS2, and Atari VCS) all connected to my home theater system with the 50" plasma in my living room. It's something to consider.

14 If you sit fairly close to a 32 inch TV that is big enough for Skyrim.

15 "Seriously, I have my PS3 and PC (and PS2, and Atari VCS) all connected to my home theater system with the 50" plasma in my living room. It's something to consider." =============== But how does that work when you're playing something that requires a mouse and keyboard to control?

go wireless and table

Posted by: The Dude at April 20, 2014 12:03 PM (bStrg)

17 @15 But how does that work when you're playing something that requires a mouse and keyboard to control? -------------------------- Use wireless, I would assume. Admittedly you've got to get something to place the mouse on in order to use it. But distance shouldn't be an issue.

Posted by: junior at April 20, 2014 12:04 PM (Yxwtc)

18 "If you sit fairly close to a 32 inch TV that is big enough for Skyrim." ================ I have fundamentally bad eyes, so I'll end up having to sit close to whatever I choose. I sit close to my 55" Plasma as it stands right now. So I gather that something in between a 27" and a 32" will get the job done well enough? I just want to be able to play the stuff that can't be played on consoles -- games like DayZ, Rust, Skyrim (modded out the wazoo).

19 I need Skyrim Followers that will use the good equipment I give them. Many Followers default armor is the wrong kind for their class.

Posted by: Boss Moss at April 20, 2014 12:07 PM (LJ7Ze)

20 Are you kidding me? Suicide Squad is one of DC's best-written titles. The movie should be very solid. (And even better, interesting.)

Posted by: Luke at April 20, 2014 12:07 PM (iv/0U)

21 Also, I just want to mention how I seem to be falling in love with "Don't Starve." At first I didn't really care for it, and I still don't really have more than a beginner's understanding of what the game's capabilities are, but after persisting for a little while, it just starts to become really addictive. I've yet to survive more than 12 days so far, though. I've seen guys on Twitch who have racked up more than 600 days. There's one guy who has been apparently playing the same game since January 1st and is vowing to keep it up the entire year.

There are mods out there that will let you properly armor your followers.  The Better Followers Mod perhaps?

23 15 But how does that work when you're playing something that requires a mouse and keyboard to control? Posted by: Kensington (@NYKensington) at April 20, 2014 04:02 PM (uaEZS) I'm not a big fan of wireless mice so mine are all corded. I've got a cable runner extending from the home theater system to beneath my coffee table. I already needed it for the speaker wire running to my surround channels, so I also ran a USB extension cord from my PC and attached it to a powered USB hub that sits upon the table. Attached to the hub are a Logitech G15 keyboard, G13 gamepad, and G500 mouse. (not a fanboi) I bought one of those laptop lap-rests from Walmart and sit my G13 on the left and my mousepad and G500 on the right. I then become one with the couch for a while and do some proper FPS gaming! It actually works out pretty well.

24 22 I stay with the Sky Forge Steel Sword and the Steel House Carl Armor.

Posted by: Boss Moss at April 20, 2014 12:20 PM (LJ7Ze)

25 Eh, in case everyone isn't aware, the G13 is not a "gamepad" but, rather, a "gameboard." I would never, of course, suggest one play an FPS with a gamepad. That's just wrong. G13: https://tinyurl.com/bmabrc2 Yay, my first use of the Tinyurl extension for Opera worked without a hitch.

26 Can't remember if I gave a WoW update last week so, ValU Rite Pudding Horde guild on Hellscream is now level 16 and has 7 bank slots. Anyone wanting to join is more than welcome. Also, if someone wants to arrange raid runs and things like that I'd be more than happy to let them since I don't know how.

27 Not too enthused with DC's decision to go with the skinny/anime-influenced look on the movies, but glad to hear Kevin Conroy's Batman voice again.

Posted by: notthatGreg at April 20, 2014 01:47 PM (BbFPz)

28 I used to wrestle in high school. An important part of that sport is sensing when a position is not working and switching it up before you get pinned. So why doesn't the GOP switch it up on immigration? Why not start asking why Mexicans are a special class of immigrant? You want open borders? Fuck it let them come. Chinese, Indians, Irish, Romanians let them come. Let them all come. Except Albanians because we have to have some fucking standards around here. A lot of those folks will contribute more to the country and they will learn to vote conservative. Maybe not GOP but conservative. The GOP has it's own agenda and that's cheap exploitable labor. Let's be honest the DNC has the same agenda. Hillary could care one shit about Juan but she needs her hedges trimmed. Let's start talking about why Mexican's in particular are supposed to get a free pass. I believe that the reason is --as stated above -- cheap exploitable labor. All this hand ringing about compassion is just a cover for indentured servitude. Even if I embraced that plan at some point momentum tips and those folks you thought you could exploit are now in charge. So open it all up. Let Freedom Ring!

30 Ach, some late replies: 7 Hell just keep an eye on that one for the next time a better deal shows up and pick up a second one and sli them. Posted by: buzzion at April 20, 2014 03:17 PM (LI48c) Only if an SLI motherboard goes on sale at the same time. I've been aware of SLI since the Voodoo 2 days but I've never built an SLI rig. 8 as long as you game at 1080, the 2GB should do you good. Once you start downsampling, that's when you'll start running into problems Posted by: The Dude at April 20, 2014 03:20 PM (bStrg) I actually had to look that term up as it refers to video cards. I don't think I'll be worrying about that. Thanks for the reassurance!

Posted by: Sandra Fluke's Solid Gold Diaphragm at April 20, 2014 02:45 PM (bHnlE)

31 Wait you can still get motherboards that don't have multiple video card slot?

32 Hey Polliwog, I've mostly been playing Star Trek Online lately. I've been using variants of the name 'Peruvia Rising' for my ships. I might come back to WoW for a month or two before the next expansion hits; I don't think it's going to be very good.

33 Im more of a lurker on conservative and libertarian sites. I read Ace daily. So, none of that matters, but where are the ESO gamers? Probably the most awesome PvP- siege warfare and all -and yet the only reason I started playing was the PvE reminiscent of Skyrim. Check it out morons.... @RoCoL is my player ID - Murder Make is the guild -if any one decides to game on the North American server.

34 Not surprising. Nintendo is not behind the times, I feel like the company at this point is autistic to a fault.

35 "The Unemployment Insurance Surreality Continues" ---------------------------- It is remarkable, okay, not so remarkable, that the Left would use PBS stories as a reference for for a seemingly objective commentary. PBS specializes in locating poster children as the basis for anything that they report. I am especially amused when they produce a report from some remote village and solicit interpreted comments from a local. In the translation, the local always speaks like a Harvard faculty lounge professor. It is astonishing how erudite and well-spoken primitive people are.
