I actually put a little effort (minimum, mind you) into keeping track of the terminology of the "Transwhatever" movement, mainly out of morbid curiosity. But "trans-feminine" is a new one to me.

That "community" can't even keep its language straight between themselves and frequently attack one another over lack of sensitivity without any hint of irony, or even sanity.

Who would have thought that reducing language to meaninglessness (gender=social construct) would have resulted in such confusion?

4 American Freedom, or Government tyranny. It's coming nigh that those that represent either side are going to have to meet in a war of great violence in order to kill enough personnel and break enough stuff that the other side has no option but surrender. If American Freedom loses... WW 2 Nazi Germany (though it has become harder and harder to differentiate America today from history's favorite example of Fascism) will look like a holiday at Grandma's.

Here's another bad omen: American Companies Think The Unthinkable — Leaving The U.S. Taxes: Walgreen, America's venerable drug-store chain, is thinking the unthinkable: relocating to Europe. Not because it sees growth and opportunity there, but because of onerous taxes here in the U.S. It's an ominous trend. The Financial Times of London calls it "one of the largest tax inversions ever." That is, a company seeking to avoid punitive taxes in one market by moving to another. No doubt the FT is right. And after its recent $16 billion takeover of Swiss-based Alliance Boots, it would be easy for Walgreen to remake itself as a Swiss company. http://tinyurl.com/odx2q2p so depressing

In an interview with Newsmax, GOA legislative counsel Mike Hammond said the shuttering of Doe Run Company's Herculaneum lead smelter plant "won't shut off the production of bullets in America because [manufacturers] can get recycled lead from a lot of other plants. Well, you'd have to have a beef with Madison et al because the income tax falls under the general taxing power of the US Congress.

The 16A didn't create the income tax.  All it does is remove the apportionment requirement the SCOTUS placed (erroneously, actually) on incomes derived from property.  There were income taxes prior to the 16A being ratified.

Being opposed to the income tax is a valid argument, but it's not by definition a conservative one.

118 Even by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s own lamentable standards, its new report – by Working Group III of the Fifth Assessment Report – makes no sense whatsoever. Perhaps it never did but what definitely made it worse was the politicised meddling of the Obama administration. Before the report’s formal release, US officials – who had seen an earlier draft - wrote to the United Nations demanding it be amended. “The discussion of the economic costs of mitigation is too narrow and does not incorporate co-benefits of action.” Loosely translated this means: “If we admit how much we’re spending to such little purpose, the taxpaying public is going to kill us.” So the report was duly amended to suggest that the benefits of wind turbines, solar panels, biofuels – not to mention the losses entailed by leaving fossil fuels in the ground – more than offset the massive costs and inconvenience involved. I've been buying my own insurance for 10 years and I've always deducted the full amount. Combined with an HSA, which I recommend to everyone, the tax deduction is very nice.

152 Hinderaker: Why You Should Be Sympathetic Towards Cliven Bundy This is exactly where I stood after sifting through all of the information at hand. From the powerline piece: The federal government has gotten more environmentally-conscious, and now we really, really care about desert tortoises. Well, Edna Lewis said it best. Southern is an evening of turtle soup. We would find the turtle, having been washed out of the stream in a thunderstorm, crawling toward the house, so we would pick it up, keep it for a few days, then clean and cut it up. There would be great excitement if it contained eggs, which we would add to the stew. After cooking the turtle slowly for hours, we would strain the broth, season it well, add good Sherry, chop up some of the meat, and make dumplings to add to the soup with the eggs. http://tinyurl.com/cjxe28 I strongly recommend her The Gift of Southern Cooking. Includes some low country cooking, too, like Frogmore Stew.

I'd prefer a simpler tax code, this is a distance runner up to that. (I'm less OK with eliminating the tax preference of insurance benefits because it would allow your employer to create a tax burden on you without actual income. That's bad.)

154 "...Opposition to the income tax isn't a conservative vs liberal argument. It's broader than that. " Posted by: @JohnTant at April 15, 2014 09:53 AM (eytER) It is broader than that. It's fundamental. Either government is subserviant to the individual or the individual is subserviant to the government. Everything flows from how someone sees that relationship. If the individual is superior, and government exists to serve the interests of a group of individuals, the right of a citizen to be secure in their persons, houses, papers and effects would be a guiding principle. If the government is superior, the individual would need to cede his right to privacy for the good of the collective.

202 Since the thread ended, new one up, going to repost this from earlier. This is stunning. And, illegal. Virginia cops constantly photograph random people’s license plates ... The disturbing discovery was made by Katie Watson, an investigative reporter with Watchdog.org’s Virginia bureau. Watson submitted a public records request with the Alexandria Police Department for all information the police had about her. Watson already knew that the police used automatic license plate recognition software to collect information. What she didn’t know was how pervasive the surveillance was. ... “From my research and interviews on police and ALPR technology for Watchdog.org, I was pretty sure they would have something of my records,” she told The Daily Caller. “But I have to admit I was pretty shocked to see police had taken pictures of my license plate while my car was safely inside my apartment complex’s parking lot.” Police took 16 photos of Watson’s car over a six month period. In March, police photographed her car while she was on her way to Bible study. ALPR technology picked her up again as recently as April 1. smells like targeting, doesn't it? http://tinyurl.com/ljtpl63

Locally, businesses collect sales tax, send it to the state, which parses it back to the city. It's the state that grants sales tax licenses. If businesses collect sales tax, pass that along to county and city, city sends the portion to county, county to state, states to Fed.... I see advantages... licensing could be local, accompanying, e.g. business licence. If the Fed has the sales license power, or payment are made to the Fed... I see problems... I r no geenyess like our gummint, tho, so all I know is that I dont know nothin'.

Simply eliminate raw materials and their associated production facilities under the guise of "environment". Of course, countries such as China, Brazil, etc. are much more embracing of mining. I think 97% of the rare earth minerals used in cell phones, tech equipment, etc. is controlled by China, the USA has one rare earth mine that is limited in production. So we continue down the unicorn path of lost production and manufacturing capabilities while our enemies ramp up production and corner markets.

214 In regards to Coldwater Creek, as a past customer of theirs, I have been amazed at the freefall their product line has experienced in quality and design. I was a customer many years ago, when they were a small boutique company in Sandpoint, ID. They used to send out small, beautiful catalogs with high end professional and casual clothing, gift items, real stone jewelry, art, etc. The catalogs were beautifully written. They were one of the first companies to show their clothes in a catalog on a model , but with the model erased out of the photo so only the clothing was observable. Then, in the early 2000s, they decided to try to compete with the big chain women's clothing stores. They started opening stores in every mall in America, every discount strip mall, every outlet place. They built a huge distribution center in WV, their catalogs went from 20 small pages to 50 pages, everything was imported, the catalogs became the same boring description of this shirt or those pants as one would find in Penny's and worse, the clothing was no longer boutique quality. It was Land's End or Penny's with more color and some fringe or extra pockets. They would have huge inventories in the stores of 20 different styles of black trousers, with seriously declining quality. Pricing would stay at $125 for a pair of pants, which you knew would be on sale within a week when you get a coupon for their "spring celebration" or their "birthday fling". They trained their customers to wait for sales and to buy stuff at the end of the season(two months before winter ends) when it is marked 40-50% off. Oddly, I was just in a CC over the weekend. Walked in, walked around, walked out. The store had a giant sale going, and was filled with blue haired 80 year olds. I was shocked and didn't know about the bankruptcy at that time. I'm not shocked about the bankruptcy at all....
