FRIDAY!

The RNC's chief of digital ops has a piece at Roll Call about the changes over there and the 2014 game plan. I've been in the new data center; it's pretty cool.

A top State Department official for European affairs apologized yesterday for saying "F*ck the EU" on a phone call that was intercepted and leaked. Speculation is that the Russians are responsible for the leak.

Over at the Federalist: "How the EPA Helps Environmental Groups Sue the EPA."

Have a great weekend.

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Friday, February 07, 2014.  On this day on 1898 Emile Zola is brought to trial for libel in France. He was convicted on Feb 7.

10 Well it looks like collectivization is catching on in the “Fundamentally Transformed”  America.  HereÂ’s a PSA for any Morons who may be Comcast customers:

Comcast customer surprised to learn new router is also public hotspot:   http://bit.ly/MuHfSy

”Comcast started adding the public hotspot to its modems by default in mid-2013, as  we reported at the time. Customers can turn the second signal off if they choose, but  it's definitely an opt-out program rather than opt-in.

In an FAQ, Comcast doesn't provide instructions for turning it off manually. You have to  call Comcast for that. "You will always have the ability to disable the XFINITY Wi-Fi  feature on your Wireless Gateway by calling 1-800-XFINITY," the company says.  Presumably, a customer service representative will try to talk you out of disabling it.

"We encourage all subscribers to keep this feature enabled as it allows more people to  enjoy the benefits of XFINITY Wi-Fi around the neighborhood," the company says.”

Right. And when some perv parks in front of your house and “enjoys the benefits of  XFINITY Wi-Fi” by downloading child porn through your router guess who will be the last  hop on the audit trail and who will be hosting the search warrant party.

Oh, and Good Morning everyone!

We did that last time and the only competence they demonstrated was the ability to issue very large checks to produce a non-functioning digital operation.

102 Hymn for the morning from the Roman Catholic Tradition and sung in Latin is Veni Creator Spiritus, "Come, Holy Spirit". It has a very old history and is sung in some masses in Latin and sung in Gregorian chant. It is very peaceful to listen to, the words are inspiring and the images on the video are lovely. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHFKBj9o4Qs The translation is: Come, Holy Ghost, Creator blest, and in our hearts take up Thy rest; come with Thy grace and heav'nly aid, To fill the hearts which Thou hast made. O Comforter, to Thee we cry, Thou heav'nly gift of God most high, Thou Fount of life, and Fire of love, and sweet anointing from above. O Finger of the hand divine, the sevenfold gifts of grace are thine; true promise of the Father thou, who dost the tongue with power endow. Thy light to every sense impart, and shed thy love in every heart; thine own unfailing might supply to strengthen our infirmity. Drive far away our ghostly foe, and thine abiding peace bestow; if thou be our preventing Guide, no evil can our steps betide. Praise we the Father and the Son and Holy Spirit with them One; and may the Son on us bestow the gifts that from the Spirit flow.

For some unfathomable reason the GOP always seems to let the opposition and the media (BIRM) choose their candidate and also frame the issues for the campaign.  The result being that they end up in a "perfect storm" of campaign fail: a poor candidate who is constantly on the defensive.

I can't recall a bad Duval performance.

But I have to take the approach of enjoying a movie for what it is, on it's own merits, regardless of who is acting in it these days.

If I skipped a movie because one or more of the actors are total fucktards, then I'd never get to watch a movie again.

The only exception I have to this loose rule is that I just can't bring myself to watch a Matt Damon flick.

Well, considering that the RNC and the Romney campaign made a colossal error in the way they implemented technology, the existence of a "cool" data center does nothing to ease my concerns over a huge discrepancy in technology between the Dems and the Republican party.

Polliwog,

Any wireless router is a public wireless router unless you enable the security protocols.  Check the documentation that came with your router to set up basic security.  There are also some good suggestions here: http://bit.ly/1exCMLb as well.

Hope it helps!

The bandwidth available through the cable is pretty significant. The cable companies throttle it down for the home user, so my guess is that there is excess capacity available, which is what is used for the public hot spots.

170 8 officers who shot up the pick up with the 2 women during Dornier's rampage get a finger wag and 'tsk tsk.' http://tinyurl.com/k48rjbj Eight Los Angeles police officers who opened fire on two women delivering newspapers in a pickup truck during the hunt for Christopher Dorner violated the LAPD's policy on using deadly force, the department's oversight body found Tuesday. In making its ruling, the Police Commission followed the recommendation of LAPD Chief Charlie Beck, who faulted the officers for jumping to the conclusion that Dorner was in the truck. Beck said the officers compounded their mistake by shooting in one another's direction with an unrestrained barrage of gunfire. Reports made public Tuesday offered new details of the hours that led up to the shooting and how it erupted into a wild, one-sided firefight in which the officers fired shotguns and handguns more than 100 times. One woman was shot twice in the back; her daughter received superficial wounds. Hopefully they don't get the dreaded 'sternly worded letter.'

They do.  Its a real PIA if your not a Comcast customer, as your IPads, etc keep trying to hop on to these "public" sites.  If you turn off discovery, then you have to manually re-enable it when you get to somewhere where you do have WiFi (home, work, etc.)

I don't know how they handle the bandwidth prioritizing.  My biggest concern would be a backdoor thru the modem firmware from the public net to your local private nets.  If that procedures doesn't include pushing a hot soldering iron thru a hole to disable the public hotspot - then it isn't seeing my house.

219 1. that's fascinating history -- thanks for the mention, Vic. THIS would make a great docudrama. Characters Zola Parisian journalist; Dreyfus artillery captain for the General Staff of France (Franco-Prussian War); and Faure the president who "suddenly" appeared Félix François Faure (30 January 1841 – 16 February 1899) was President of France from 1895 until his death. His election was a surprise to all, including himself. Effectively, Faure won like a write-in candidate substituted on ballot at the last moment in order to defeat that election's front lead plurality vote candidate from winning, Eugène Henri Brisson, the liberal statesman who evenly denounced the 1871 Paris Commune but also denounced the criminalization of labor union organizations. Everyone presumed that Faure would be a very congenial fellow, an easy push over in office. He appeared so with international stars like the Tsar, but certainly played the villain in the Dreyfus affair. When prejudice fabricates evidence, "proven" by a priori "scientific" investigation that postulates serial lies as if a web of evidence, we see from France what our American authoritarian governmental hell is today. Faure also refused ANY appeal of the guilty of treason by secret court martial and sentence to slave at (Papillon movie) Devil's Island. Dreyfus escaped to England. Notice, the go along to get along politician ("Sen. Present!") often proves the most vindictive in office. Once Faure died, Dreyfus returned to France appealing for a retrial that again found him guilty. Dreyfus had to wait until 1906 for another appeal retrial that annulled his guilty verdict, and was subsequently awarded the Cross of the Légion d'honneur, which stated, “a soldier who has endured an unparallelled martyrdom.” Regarding such 'fraternity', Groucho Marx would say, "I don't care to belong to any club that will have me as a member."

Morales might have known better than to speed through Galveston at 3 a.m. with diagrams of two indoor pot-growing operations sitting on the front seat of his Infinity and a load of pot seedlings stashed in the trunk. After all, he had previously been to federal prison on weapons charges and in years prior had worked as a McGruff the Crime Dog. The diagrams on a clipboard proved to be road maps for authorities in Galveston and Houston who seized 1,000 marijuana plants as well as 27 weapons, including grenade launchers, sawed-off shotguns, military-style rifles and 9,000 rounds of ammunition, according to court records. U.S. District Judge Vanessa Gilmore on Monday sentenced Morales to 16 years in prison after the 41-year-old pleaded guilty last year to drug and weapons charges. Gilmore seemed to have little sympathy for Morales, who previously was sentenced to two years in prison for an illegal silencer and a homemade bomb.

Morning, all!  This week has been    ridiculously busy at work.  I have missed my HQ Horde!  *clings*

That said:

A top State Department official for European affairs apologized yesterday for saying "F*ck the EU" on a phone call that was intercepted and leaked. Speculation is that the Russians are responsible for the leak.

Two things.

1) How stupid do you have to be to say something that stupid over the stupid phone  when you work for the stupid State Department?   Are we sure this wasn't   Horseface speaking?  Because he's pretty damn stupid.

and

2) Stupid as it was, it's pretty much what everyone thinks, right?  I mean,    fuck the EU.  Seriously.

246 http://tinyurl.com/mftfaa7 Pseudo lesbians and double toilets. I don't care about the opening ceremony but may have to tune in to see what a train wreck it is. Associated Press | 0 comments A pseudo-lesbian pop duo, a famed opera singer and a romp through Russian history await viewers as the Sochi Winter Olympics launch Friday with an opening ceremony meant to showcase to the world the ultimate achievement of Vladimir Putin's Russia. In a provocative choice, Russian singers Tatu will perform before the 3,000 athletes march through a stadium on the shores of the Black Sea, one of the many newly built facilities in the most expensive Olympics in history. The women in Tatu put on a lesbian act that is largely seen as an attention-getting gimmick. It contrasts with the very real anger over a Russian law banning gay "propaganda" aimed at minors that is being used to discriminate against gays. Some world leaders and activists have protested the law, and President Barack Obama is skipping the opening ceremony and sending a delegation that includes prominent gay athletes instead.

How unexpected

The second straight month of weak hiring - marked by declines in retail, utilities, government, and education and health employment. The data also comes on the heels of a report on Monday showing a surprise drop in factory activity to an eight-month low in January and could rattle investors, already nervous about slowing global growth.

If TFG had been smarter than he is (thank God), he would have had all the provisions kick in at the same time in Jan 2016. Then he'd have less than a year to have to sit it out. Not to mention all the extra time the Dems could have used for propaganda and saying, "We're taking the time to make sure we do it *right*." 304 Kind of interesting that team sports (and the idea of competition) are declining in the US while the Olympics are going on... A study by the Sports and Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) reports that youth sports lost 11 percent of its casual participants since 2008. Although gymnastics, beach volleyball, and ultimate frisbee added athletes, baseball, football, soccer, and basketball experienced declines. Given their popularity, this necessarily meant that, overall, teams shrank. “Competition isn’t what it used to be,” laments Paul Mahoney, a Boston youth basketball coach who has mentored boys and girls on the hardwood since 1969. “Kids don’t play in groups outside to learn how to win and lose. It must be organized for them to do it. I live near a park/field/basketball courts. I never see kids out playing on their own. Playing means with an Xbox in your hands.” sad breitbart sports

I'm not so sure they have the "public" access that well thought out, so being the pessimist that I am I think both scenarios are equally likely.

308 You know, if the post office needs a new revenue stream that badly, they could always sell cigarettes. Think of the walk-in traffic. And nobody's going to complain that they're competing with them.

They could call it their "Cigarette Vending System." And send an ana-gram.

309 At some point Boehner and McConnell have to grow a spine and tell the world that the time for playing these dogshit games is over and either 404Care should be shitcanned or put into place so everybody can experience its wonderful awesomeness. Nobody should be fooled by these delaying tactics and waivers but we have a lot of dumbfucks in the country. Posted by: Captain Hate at February 07, 2014 09:08 AM (zjT4v) What they ought to say is that obamacare is officially NOT A LAW (as noted by the SCOAMF's actions), therefore IGNORE IT.

312 I live near a park/field/basketball courts. I never see kids out playing on their own.

That's the issue.  If you let your kids play outside on their own, your some sort of delinquent parent.  I've had the cops come by because a neighbor saw my kids playing in the woods ALONE <gasp> 50 yards from my backdoor.  I filed a FOIA to find who filed the report, but they won't cough it up.

314 199, 231 ... Ministry of Propaganda sez to suck it up, morons. Malicious minds flourish on deceit with nothing productive to show for all its destruction. Ex: Alinsky Malice aforethought has become so popular as to monopolize advertising broadcast (including politics and governance). On such dark shadows, the Audi 2014 superbowl commerce-ad sez to keep your head down, cuz the shadow and the fear are so big ... Spare us the angst, dammit, as if we MUST hide with our eyes wide shut awaiting the knife in the back struck by a pretty young black girl. Whoever promotes such imagery as if convincing is repellant. As for lying better than your opponent in order to win the day? Remember, you get what you ask for, more of the same shit served by your "own" leaders who take the power/money and refuse to go home once elected. (Congressional D-class of '74 still has bitter clingers in office.) Beat the loudmouth liars. See through revisionism. Stick to your own platform (keep it simple, stupid). It's the only one you want, anyway.

316 313. Jean, wouldn't be surprised if it were someone out doing no good who didn't want kids witnessing such carrying on If it were a neighbor, so it goes. It used to be that your neighbor was either friendly or indifferent (keeping a distance). But the rule adopted is to antagonize as much as possible in order to make everyone comply to your superiority. We bought our home in Texas country. Decades ago, our 10-year-old son went with his bee-bee gun and a can to target practice behind our yard in the square mile open, undeveloped sunflower fields and oak groves still filled with native vegetation and wildlife. A new neighbor spied him walking out and called the Sheriff to "arrest" the boy with a gun. Poetic justice arrived when that man tried starting his lawn mower where a rattler was nesting. Everyone came running out back to help, to find it was him screaming at the top of his lungs in fear.
