— Ace Sounds about right.
Most disturbing was the discovery that some people hid their Internet surfing, or went online to cure foul moods in ways that mirrored alcoholics using booze, according to the study's lead author, Elias Aboujaoude."In a sense, they're using the Internet to self-medicate," Aboujaoude said. "And obviously something is wrong when people go out of their way to hide their Internet activity."

— Ace A "top official" of Al-Sadr's militia arrested.
Al-Sadrists promise demonstrations.
Obviously, we should have killed this guy a long, long time ago.
Will the Iraqi Government go wobbly, or move against these guys? This sounds good:
"The government is determined to fight the armed groups by all political or military means," Maliki's cabinet office said Tuesday. "It will not hesitate to strike whoever tries to violate the security of the country and threaten the civil peace," the statement added.

— Ace A lot of exclamation points lately. Hm. I've got to stop that.
He must hate brown people!
Or, you know, he hates being sick.
I'm wondering how quickly Bush jumped into an intense bactericidal ultravilolent light-chamber after shaking my hand.
And I'm not even brown.

— Ace Well, probably not.
But again, the liberals are selling us on the idea that millions of young people, who can't be contacted by normal polling means (i.e., through landlines), will turn out like the Dickens to vote for the dicks.
Geraghty notes that poll refusniks are a much bigger problem. Very few people want to spend twenty minutes (or more) talking to a pollster.
Let's take this a little further. Republicans tend to do better in elections than polls show, indicating, perhaps, they refuse to answer poll-calls more often, or just aren't in the house to pick up the phone as often.
What if Democrats are more excited than usual, and hence more willing than usual to spend 25 minutes answering stupid questions on the phone?
And what if Republicans are less excited, and hence less willing than usual to do the same?
And what if Republicans aren't particularly excited to vote, but will by and large do so anyway?
Perhaps polling gets skewed by the excitment/dispirited mood of one party or another, resulting in polls that favor the "excited party" more than the election returns actually will.
Am I reaching? Maybe. Still, there are a lot of refusals to answer poll questions, and if those refusals aren't split in perfect proportion to the actual electorate, there's a built-in inaccuracy in polling.

— Ace That's the cat whose face is always in my sidebar now. The guy supposedly plotting a radiological bomb detonation in the US.
Jihadis again say an attack is coming in Ramadan. Probably just goosing morale, of course, but every once in a while one of these threats is based on something more than opitimism for the chance of killing innocent civilians.
Meanwhile, the My Pet Jawa commenter Melissa (also a commenter here from time to time) who thought she spotted Shukrijumah says she got an interesting visit:
I was greeted this morning at my office by a member of the local SWAT team. They are looking for an Arab male, passing himself off as hispanic. Judging by the picture they showed me, this guy could definitely pass as Mexican.
This is getting rather strange.
A while ago a reader, who I'll call DT (as I don't know what he'd want me to call him), sent me his efforts at creating a composite of Shukrijumah -- this terrorist with different possible looks. It's an amateur job, but hey, it could help:

— Ace LauraW already posted this, but if you missed it, it's worth a listen.
The telemarketers messed with the wrong guy.
The only thing that's annoying is the typical Morning Zoo style forced chuckling by the hosts.
Otherwise, good stuff.
Thanks to Mister Tan.

— Ace Is there anything an illegal war of choice on a soverign kite-flying nation can't do?
Bonus! CBSNews also pimps the oil-price-drop conspiracy theory.
Does that mean that Bush also conspired over the summer to have gasoline surge in price and alienate a lot of voters, too?

— Ace Pretty good stuff:
Hi, John, my name is Ethan Albright. I play line for the Washington Redskins. You probably already knew that, so IÂ’ll continue. I am writing in regards to the overall player rating of 53 that I have received in Madden NFL Football 2007. I feel that this is fucking bullshit and you should kiss my mother-fucking ass. Ahmed Carroll was rated a 78 and the Packers just cut his ass on a Tuesday morning after his performance in a Monday night game. That is pretty terrible. The worst part is that his overall rating was sniffing 80.You know what, John? Two can play this game. I rate you a fucking 12. I rate you a fucking 12 in Ethan Albright Football 2000-everÂ… except for in the category of ball-licking.

— Ace This should move some votes:
Tyson, wearing a white and blue Steele for U.S. Senate T-shirt, said he used to believe black Republicans were "sellouts." But Tyson said he changed his mind after researching the Maryland lieutenant governor."We have to open our eyes more," Tyson said, as he pointed to his T-shirt.
He also suggested a three point plan for eliminating black poverty: 1) school choice, 2) increased emphasis on parental responsibility, and 3) biting the ear off of black poverty.
Michael Steele was reportedly "pleasantly surprised" by Tyson's offer to campaign with him, as well as "terrified beyond the capacity for rational thought."
Bonus Quote: From the previous Mike Tyson article today:
The man who vowed to eat Lennox Lewis' children and bit off a piece of Evander Holyfield's ear has said he's in no mood for a comeback.
Hey, it could be worse. Don King is always campaigning for Repblicans, and he killed a guy. (Manslaughter.)
I think Don King is just angling to get the promotion rights for every election.

— Ace So urges frequent commenter Christopher Taylor.
He's got a point.
Actually, I'm psyched about voting in this election.
There's a gallows-humor saying among prosecutors that they sometimes say when they errantly convict an innocent man. "Convicting a guilty man is easy. Convicting an innocent man takes skill."
Electing a party which has momentum, the feel of being a winner, and which has done an especially good job is easy.
On the other hand, electing a party which has squandered opportunity after opportunity, is punch-drunk and looking for a piece of canvas to nap on, and which hasn't done a very good job takes real political muscle.
Let's elect these friggin' idiots into power for two more years.
Just to prove that we can.
