Lieberman: Saddam Had WMD's At Time Of Invasion
— Ace

Is this guy getting ready to flip? How can he remain in this party?

"The so-called Duelfer Report, which a lot of people read to say there were no weapons of mass destruction - concluded that Saddam continued to have very low level of chemical and biological programs," Lieberman told ABC Radio host Sean Hannity on Wednesday.

"[Saddam] was trying to break out of the U.N. sanctions by going back into rapid redevelopment of chemical and biological and probably nuclear [weapons]," Lieberman said, calling the Iraqi dictator "a ticking time bomb."

LA Times: "Basically Factual" Reporting Is "Propaganda"
— Ace

Apparently because it isn't sufficiently mixed with liberal-tilting "context."

I haven't even bothered with this story because... well, come on. The liberal media is accusing the US military of "propaganda." I'm not sure if the problem is that the media finds this practice unethical, or if it objects to the poaching on its territory.

Related... You'll not be terribly surprised to learn the New York Times has joined in on the White Phosphorus lie.

The Iraqis are being more accurately informed than Americans are.

No Joke: Al Sharpton In Talks For Sitcom
— Ace

A possible title is (again, not a joke; I must stress this) Al in the Family.

I've already got my review ready:

"It's a riot!!!"

Dick Van Patten Eats Dog Food
— Ace

He says his new "celebrity" endorsed puppy chow is good enough for human consumption, and he proves it himself.

Big deal. Dick Cheney eats a goulash made from broken glass, spent antifreeze, and liquified animal waste. And he's not even being paid for his endorsement.

He's just doing his part to end world pollution.

Wrap Sheet: Tookie Williams
— Ace

Bloggers don't do a lot of original reporting, but one area where they frequently outshine the press is in doing backgrounders, compilations of information about a subject to bring a clueless reader up to speed.

And, it hardly needs be said, this is often a more fair and balanced background that offered by the MSM.

Crosblog digests the case for executing Tookie Williams and the case for granting him clemency. You will not be surprised to learn that those seeking clemency for this multiple murderer aren't quite giving you the straight dope about his trial or the evidence against him.

Bear in mind: whatever complaints his defenders have about certain evidence, it is uncontested that this guy founded the ultraviolent Crips gang.

I know you're not supposed to look beyond the actual evidence, but give me an f'n' break. You don't found the Crips and expand it across the nation by holding charity bake-sales and knitting scarves for the homeless.

Yes, I Know It's "Rap" Sheet: I'm trying to make some kind of a vague pun, because the headline is so lame.

Wondering... If anyone's done a similar backgrounder on the Abramoff case, which I understand is vaguely important, but I don't know much about it. Say Anything?

MSM: DNC FUBAR (AKA MIA)
— Ace

After three years, someone in the MSM notices the Democrats don't have a position on Iraq.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's embrace Wednesday of a rapid withdrawal from Iraq highlighted the Democratic Party's fissures on war policy, putting the House's top Democrat at odds with her second in command while upsetting a consensus developing in the Senate.

For months now, Democratic leaders have grown increasingly aggressive in their critiques of President Bush's policies in Iraq but have been largely content to keep their own war strategies vague or under wraps. That ended Wednesday when Pelosi (D-Calif.) aggressively endorsed a proposal by Rep. John P. Murtha (D-Pa.) to pull U.S. troops out of Iraq as soon as possible, leaving only a much smaller rapid-reaction force in the region.

The move caught some in the party by surprise....

What's more, House Minority Whip Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) issued a statement Wednesday that was in marked contrast to Pelosi's. "I believe that a precipitous withdrawal of American forces in Iraq could lead to disaster, spawning a civil war, fostering a haven for terrorists and damaging our nation's security and credibility," he said.

Marshall Wittmann, a former Republican political strategist now with the centrist Democratic Leadership Council, said Pelosi may have resurrected her party's most deadly liability -- voters' lack of trust in the party on national security.

"If Karl Rove was writing the timing of this, he wouldn't have written it any differently, with the president of the United States expressing resolve and the Democratic leader offering surrender," Wittmann said, referring to Bush's top adviser. "For Republicans, this is manna from heaven."

Pshah. Karl Rove says, "Dick Cheney taught me everything he knows."

Dick Cheney just smiles and says, "No, I taught you everything you know. Now put on that pretty little sun-dress I like so much. I think I'm gonna take you out dancin'. Maybe make you do stuff to my friends."

AP on Vietnam: "Another war, another set of faulty intelligence findings behind it."
— Ace

Lead f'n' sentence. No buryin' the lede for Bush-bashing articles!

Incidentally, guys? It has been pretty well accepted for 20+ years that the alleged second Tonkin Gulf attack never happened. It was all just radar bouncing off of wave-tips on a stormy night called "darker than hell."

This is not news. This is you attempting to resurrect a long-settled historical non-question in order to equate Iraq and Vietnam.

Also, it really isn't a question of "faulty intelligence." Intelligence is spying and collecting information. This was just an errant report of an attack.

Coming Soon From AP: The "Punitive Expedition" into Mexico in 1916 was yet another war based on an overreaction by a "fearmongering" president with a racist agenda against swarthy folk and another "convenient enemy with a funny name," Pancho Villa, who just raided the United States to collect money to build roads and day-care centers.

Thanks to Greg.

Secret Settlement In Koko-the-Gorilla Groping Case
— Ace

Yeah, so, Koko the talking gorilla turned out to have a "nipple fetish," and her female caretakers were encouraged to show her their breasts.

They sued, claiming sexual harassment by a lesbian gorilla.

The case has been settled but the terms are confidential.

The lawsuit, seeking more than $1 million in damages, focused fresh attention on Koko, already well known for her purported American Sign Language vocabulary of more than 1,000 words.

Turns out 600 of those words were just synonyms for hooters, like "chesticles," "Mommy sacs," and "sweater stretchers."

"We all want to get this behind us and move on with our lives," said Stephen Sommers, representing the plaintiffs.

I find this statement amusing for some reason.

"This is the first time and hopefully the last time the Gorilla Foundation will have to deal with anything of this type," said the nonprofit's attorney, Todd Roberts.

I doubt it. The rate of recidivism among nipple-obsessed bi-curious sign-language-speaking knocker-kongs is distressingly high.

A separate suit has not yet been settled.

It alleges that she was forced to display her breasts to the lowland gorilla seven or eight times to cater to Koko's obsession with nipples.

Again, it's just so unlikely I'll have the chance to quote a similar sentence I have to do so again.

Thanks to Old Coot.

All The Troops Keep Thanking John Kerry For A Postion He's Abandoned
— Ace

John Kerry says the troops keep thanking him for "speaking about this," i.e., withdrawal.

Co-host Karol thinks the last time Kerry was in Iraq was January 2005, when his stated position was that we needed more troops.

Is Kerry suggesting every single troop thanked him for supporting a position he hadn't taken yet?

Thanks to the Blogometer.
