— Ace I did not see this coming.
Nor did I see it coming that she might get kind of hot again. Less nympette, more milf.
Works either way, really.

— Ace Horrible. But she kills the loathesome animal.
A woman who was raped and beaten by an old acquaintance fought back, stabbing her attacker to death when he threatened to rape her 6-year-old daughter.Deputies arrived at the woman's Cherokee County home Sunday night to find Gerald A. Lee, 38, lying dead in the backyard. The woman, whose name is being withheld because she was the victim of a sexual assault, told police Lee broke into the house wearing a ski mask and carrying a shotgun.
Capt. Ron Hunton with the Cherokee County Police said Lee beat the woman with the gun and raped her, then told her that he would move on to her daughter next. He had locked the daughter in the closet of the room where he raped the woman.
When Lee began rummaging through the woman's purse, she ran to the kitchen and grabbed a butcher knife. She fought with Lee, stabbing him several times, Hunton said.
At one point, the attacker threw a pot of boiling tea from the stove on her, Hunton said.
During the fight, Lee went out the back door and then re-entered the house by breaking a window, Hunton said. The woman and Lee fought again in the living room and the hallway, where she stabbed him several more times.
Lee crawled through the house into the back yard and died.
He won't be missed.

— Ace It's called "The Happiest, Most Wonderful Syndrome In The Whole Beautiful World."
A rare syndrome that typically strikes during adolescence can keep sufferers asleep for days, sometime as many as 14 days, according to a Local 6 News report. The report featured central Floridian Spencer Spearin, 20, who is sometimes afraid to shut his eyes. The Ormond Beach man was diagnosed with Kleine Levin Syndrome -- a rare but debilitating disorder.
Every four months or so, Spearin climbs into bed and sleeps for days or longer, the report said.
"I might not be with you for a couple weeks," Spearin said. "I missed my birthday. I missed my graduation. I can't remember what I ate yesterday. I can't remember what I did yesterday."
Many times, the disorder appears after a flu-like illness.
Dr. Emanuel Mignot said patients suffer from periodic episodes of extreme sleepiness and abnormal, child-like behavior.
"They feel like they are in a fog," Mignot said. "They don't know exactly the reality around them. If you try to wake them up they are very irritable."
...
During the dream-like state, most patients only get up to use the bathroom or eat -- often enormous amounts of food.
A bear was quoted as saying, "Tell me about it."

— Ace Well! Everyone said he was charismatic and could really get people whipped into a frenzy!
The defense? Well, they only meant to play the part of the speech that said, translated, "On to victory" (as the article puts it), and accidentally played 90 seconds of the speech instead.
Apparently some on the team and at the school are fond of chanting "On to victory" (in German) to rev themselves up for games.
"On to victory"?
Now, I wasn't the greatest student of German, but I have seen a lot of WWII movies.
"On to victory"? I've heard a similar chant: "Sieg Heil," usually translated as "Hail Victory!"
Is this article attempting to spin its way out of admitting these kids were chanting Sieg Heil?
And -- what does it matter anyway? Even if they were chanting some other Nazi chant that included the word for "victory," what the hell were they doing chanting it in the first place?
With the apparent acceptance of school officials, no less?
Un. Fuckin'. Believable.
America. 2006. Nazi chants.

CORRECTION: They're Already Whining, I Meant
— Ace Sorry, I misread Allahpudit's headline as "winning" and had a moment of dread, and I figured you guys might as well share in that.
Actually, both sides are whining about this or that. As Ford is specifically among the whiners, it may be he knows he's coming up short.
Instapundit predicts this about exit polls:
If they're bad for the GOP they'll leak early. If they're good for the GOP, they won't.
Well, so far, so good. Apparently exit-pollsters in the past routinely counted up their results at 9am and then 3pm (and then again just before polls closed). So, one chance at a leak down, another one coming up, and so far, no leaks.
No news is good news, perhaps.
In Wisconsin, election officials are forcing poll workers to take down signs which announce, accurately, that felons are not permitted to vote, in order not to "intimidate" voters.
Wouldn't want to "intimidate" people who can't legally vote from illegally voting, after all.
On turnout: seems to be pretty high, overall.
Which doesn't necessarily mean Democrats are winning. That was the assumption, of course, in 2004, and high turnout turned out to favor Republicans.
A Round-Up Of Endorsements From Church Leaders... Well, not "church leaders" per se.
I meant to say "endorsements from hardline Islamist imams and terrorist leaders."

— Ace I put that item up just to prepare people for possible bad news -- that is, if Chafee wins and we need his vote to retain the Senate (i.e., we've lost five other Senate seats), it's not in the bag he'll stay on the team.
But I want to point out how awful the sourcing is for this rumor. I'm not sure I would have put it on my own blog had someone tipped me to this -- and I'd have bias to post it just because it was my tip.
I got it from NR's "The Sixers" blog. But they got it from the very liberal TNR -- and not actually even from TNR, but from TNR's blog.
Go read the Plank if you want the tenor of their reportage.
Furthermore, the blogger didn't even hear this himself. He says it was his friend who was told this.
The friend is obviously a strong Democratic partisan, based on the account of the supposed bombshell revelation.
And let's be serious: would he tell such a thing to a single person? Why? So he could cause all of his Republican support to desert him and gain no Democratic votes at all? This is the sort of thing one tends to say to all (vote for me, I'll caucus with Democrats) or not at all.
So, big, big grain of salt.
I shouldn't have even posted it. I have higher standards than TNR.
And... In all likelihood, Chafee's not going to win anyway. Apparently Whitehouse is a fairly strong candidate, and he's actually a declared Democrat in the most Democratic state in the union.
Chafee's strength is mainly that his dad was a smart and likable guy, and that the people of Rhode Island "know Chafee."
I don't think that's enough to overcome a partisan desire to have a Senator reflecting your ideology.
Especially now. Also mentioned on FoxNews last night-- I think it was either Barone or Caddell who noted that never before have so many people been voting a party rather than a candidate. Or, more likely, never before have so many people been willing to admit they're voting for a party, not a particular candidate.
Which makes sense to me, really. This "vote the man, not the party" stuff is silly. If there's a candidate who opposes almost every policy I support, and he's likable, smart, articulate, passionate, and has a squeaky-clean and moving personal backstory, shit, that's even more of a reason to vote against him, isn't it?
Do I really want such an effective advocate in office using his considerable political talents to defeat every policy I support?

— Ace I thought the deal was that if the Thornburgh/Boccardi panel allowed Dan Rather some plausible deniability and left him with a shred of his reputation intact, and did not concude, as the evidence warranted, he was a somewhat senile liberal partisan amateur, he'd just let the matter stay there and shut the hell up about this.
Apparently not.
Bonus! Rather supposedly will be part of Jon Stewart's and Steven Colbert's completely-fake election coverage tonight.
I can't think of a better man for the job.

— Ace This cartoon would be hilarious were it not so disturbing. Brilliant job.
It almost makes anti-Semiticsm seem like frisky fun -- just like it's considered at the Daily Kos.
Make sure you watch to the very end, where one Kos reader scolds the diarist for posting this blatant Jew-hatred, and advises him to take down the diary.... at least until tomorrow, the day after the elections.
Principle.
Thanks to Blacksheep.

— Ace That's what a witness says she said.
- Four days after she said she was raped, the accuser in the Duke lacrosse case told co-workers at a Hillsborough strip club that she was going to get money from some boys at a Duke party who hadn't paid her, the club's former security manager said."She basically said, 'I'm going to get paid by the white boys,' " H.P. Thomas, the former security manager at the Platinum Club, said in an interview Friday. "I said, 'Whatever,' because no one takes her seriously."
...
Durham District Attorney Mike Nifong declined to comment on Thomas' recollections. Thomas said he had not previously come forward on the advice of lawyers.
The case grows stronger by the minute, doesn't it?
Thanks to CraigC.
