Video: Sgt. Seavey Vs. Some Prick From VoteVets
— Ace

I appreciate the shout-out.

I really enjoyed how Norah O'Donnell asked him why Rush had referred to phony soldiers -- plural -- and then when Sgt Seavey attempted to explain there were plural phony soldiers, she immediately cut him off and invited the VoteVets prick to change the subject.

Eh. Whatever, Norah. Your looks are going. You were always just a pretty simp and now you're just a formerly pretty simp about to reach her expiration date.

Too Good To Be True: Beauty, Money Collide On Craigslist
— Ace

Most likely a hoax but, as Dave From Garfield-Ridge says, oh so worth it anyway.

It's a bit like Woody Allen pulling out Marshall MacLuhan and saying "Don't you wish life really worked like this?"

Again: You're just not going to see that kind of edgy humor at Captain's Quarters.

Saudi Arabia: Man Gets 7000 Lashes For Sodomy
— Ace

I'm just curious: What would be the punishment were he found guilty of sexual masochism?

See what I did there?

That was a subtle bit of wit right there. You don't get that shit at Wretchard.

Anyway:

TWO men in Saudi Arabia have been sentenced to 7000 lashes each after being convicted of sodomy and have received their first round of punishment in public, a newspaper said today.

The men, who were not identified, were meted out an unspecified number of lashes in public in the the southwestern city of Al-Bahah on Tuesday evening, the Al-Okaz daily reported.

They were then returned to prison where they are to be held until the full punishment is completed, the newspaper added, without saying how many sessions this would involve.

Homosexual acts are illegal in Saudi Arabia, which metes out strict punishment based on sharia, or Islamic law.

To show their disgust of gay sex, the all-male crowd watching the men get whipped engaged in a form of self-flagellation often called "pounding the Prophet."

Sentencing men accused of gay sodomy to public whippings and then prison?

I'm reminded of the punchline of the joke: "This isn't just about the hunting anymore, is it?"

Obama: I Won't Wear American Flag Pin, As I Don't Like What It Stands For
— Ace

Don't question his patriotism. He's extraordinarily patriotic to the Nation of Earth. Alas, there is no official government for that mythic place, so the best he can do is run for President of the United States as a proxy for Chief Elder of the Nation of Earth.

Presidential Candidate Barack Obama is trying to change political fashion. He gave a speech in Iowa City Wednesday and he wasn't wearing an American flag pin.

Those pins have become synonymous with politicians since 9-11.

Obama says he doesn't like how the pin has come to represent patriotism in America.

The senator told TV-9, "I decided I won't wear that pin on my chest, instead I'm going to try to tell the American people what I believe will make this country great. Hopefully that will be a testimony to my patriotism."

Another testimony to your patriotism might be demonstrating a lack of embarrassment and shame over being an American.

Related: Tavis Smiley refused to include an American flag on the stage at the Republican debate he immoderated.

Duncan Hunter requested one. He was refused.

But don't question their patriotism.

Lizard Sexual Strategies Revealed
— Ace

Pretty interesting. There are three different male lizard types -- orange bellied, yellow bellied, and white bellied -- with three different mating strategies: conquest/thuggery, deception/back-door man, and, um, bourgeois middle-class marriage.

Although the three male lizard types are different in appearance and method, they share one thing in common: They're all miserable and pray for death.

Turley: The NRA was Right
— Slublog

I can only imagine how difficult it was for liberal Jonathan Turley to write this article, which makes it all the more admirable.

More important, the mere reference to a purpose of the Second Amendment does not alter the fact that an individual right is created. The right of the people to keep and bear arms is stated in the same way as the right to free speech or free press. The statement of a purpose was intended to reaffirm the power of the states and the people against the central government. At the time, many feared the federal government and its national army. Gun ownership was viewed as a deterrent against abuse by the government, which would be less likely to mess with a well-armed populace.

Considering the Framers and their own traditions of hunting and self-defense, it is clear that they would have viewed such ownership as an individual right — consistent with the plain meaning of the amendment.

None of this is easy for someone raised to believe that the Second Amendment was the dividing line between the enlightenment and the dark ages of American culture. Yet, it is time to honestly reconsider this amendment and admit that ... here's the really hard part ... the NRA may have been right.

The deuce he says! An individual right contained right in the middle of the Bill of Rights? The second one on the list, to boot.

Imagine that.
