A couple of Washington Post reporters recently sat down with General Petraeus in Iraq to discuss the situation there ahead of his appearance before Congress next month.

Marc Ambinder at his blog at The Atlantic seems to think the General's answers call into question the success of the surge.

HereÂ’s the lead from the story:

Iraqi leaders have failed to take advantage of a reduction in violence to make adequate progress toward resolving their political differences, Gen. David H. Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, said Thursday.

Well, this news took at least one person by surpriseÂ…General Petraeus. This is from a MNF-I press release:

"Today's Washington Post inaccurately characterized the discussions General Petraeus and their reporters had yesterday. During the one-hour interview General Petraeus never intimated or stated that Iraqi leaders have "failed to take advantage of a reduction in violence to make adequate progress toward resolving their political differences."

The Washington Post has been asked to make a correction on this statement and we are awaiting their decision.

It looks like the opening shot in The Second Battle of Congressional Hearings has been fired. I think it will take a willing suspension of disbelief to trust much of what you read about it in the MSM.

Jerry Zucker's "National Banana" on the Spitzer mess.

Oh, the real scandal may be that Kristin is 32, not 22. Which means that Spitzer is getting ready to investigate her for fraud.

In a different sex scandal, a "heeny" kinda chick had sex with Chris Rock and then alleged first she was pregnant (she wasn't) and then she was raped (I sorta doubt that, and the fact that she first tried the paternity scam doesn't help her cause).

It's also frustrating just from a news standpoint because on the one hand people are talking about it. It's clearly an issue that's bubbling up on the campaign trail, so we end up covering it. But at the same time it does feel just completely off track. And there have been other issues in this campaign which just felt completely off track from the real differences between these candidates, the real issues. It's frustrating that yet again we seem to be mired in this politics as usual.

Excuse me, and I don't mean this to be offensive to any of you fine gentlemen in the least, but when you smoked so much tainted rock as to fall into a crack-and-Comet coma and awoke with light to moderate mental retardation and also strange bruises resembling alien sex-probes all over your body for which you can simply not account, did a strange man in black walk into your hospital room and beat you back to stupid with a moron-bat and/or brain-fuck you with the crazy-stick?

Barack Obama has been sold to the American people as a race healer and not a race warrior.

He has been claimed to be a man who can bridge the differences between black and white, not as a reliable footsoldier in the army of the Angry Black People movement.

He has presented himself as someone who is beyond race, post-racial, and not as someone who recalls the Watts riots as kind of a good idea.

In short, he owes most of his cross-over appeal among white voters to the idea, apparently quite false, that he is not an angry, radical black nationalist sort whose idea of racial reconciliation consists of tumultuous political upheavals, all helping (arguably) blacks at the expense (inarguably) of whites, but of someone who doesn't really seek to do much on racial policy at all but who can simply "heal" our racial divisions just by being elected but otherwise being a nice guy who says inspirational crap but leaves Whitey alone.

The fact that he's been an enthusiastic member of a church headed by an angry Black Panther in a white collar unrepentantly spitting out 60s era hate-Whitey rhetoric rather belies Obama's appeal to those of us who wish black folks well but honestly would prefer to be left the fuck alone to live our lives in peace.

In short, Obama's tutelage by this "moral leader" makes us question if he isn't just an unreconstructed 60s radical with an affable manner and nice haircut.

So yes, guys, this is an issue, even though I realize you would strongly, strongly prefer it not to be.

Tough shit. I know you like presuming to decide for the American people what they are permitted to consider important, but I'm afraid you're quite outvoted here.

Brian from snappedshot notes some copyright irregularities in the legacy media. The wire services have been lifting some photos of "Kristen" without permission:

Three attorneys who specialize in copyright law say media organizations are sailing in dangerous waters if they publish a personal snapshot without permission.

"Whoever took that picture owns that picture," says New York attorney Nancy Wolff. "It's either an infringement or they [the news outlets] have to make a fair use argument."

Wolff says the news organizations probably decided the risk of a lawsuit was low. They also probably considered competitive pressure as other sources published the same photos. "It's a fast business decision," Wolff says.

Of course, given enough publicity, the risk of a lawsuit increases dramatically. I wouldn't be too comfortable if I were the wire services. Kristen is happily making a bundle on this whole mess. A friend of hers who took that photo probably wouldn't mind getting in on the action.
