Sure to Bother All the Right People
— Gabriel Malor

Will this stir up trouble, or is it one of the greatest film roles of all time? Above, see Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr., and Ben Stiller in the upcoming "epic action comedy" Tropic Thunder. Yes, there are three white guys in that picture. Downey plays a character who is a white guy cast in the role of a black man (yes, it's very meta).

Empire has the gory details and a link to a larger picture.

I was never a fan of Downey until Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang (and I've been pretty negative about Iron Man so far). If you haven't seen it, Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang is very amusing; Downey and co-star Val Kilmer--not what you usually think of when it comes to a comedic duo--kept me laughing throughout the faux-noir crime comedy.

Come to think of it, Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang also had several meta elements like the main character stopping the film to address the audience and rewind to clarify things or explain how movies of the noir type are supposed to proceed. Maybe that's Downey's new thing?

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang [Ace]: I just searched for my review of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang; turns out I didn't write one, it seems. I guess it was such an interesting, oddball, and fun movie I wanted time to think about how to review it. I guess I took too damn long.

If you've never seen it, and are a fan of hardboiled detective novels -- and self-referential meta-parody, and gay jokes,* and Shane (Lethal Weapon) Black, rent it. It's great. Not perfect, but so quick and rapid-fire fun that whatever flaws it has blow right by you.

The film's chapter titles are all Raymond Chandler novel or short story titles. Yeah, it's that sort of over the top homage/spoof.

Below, a funny scene from the film. One of many funny scenes. Language and violence warning. more...

Clinton Open To The Idea Of Identity Politics Dream Ticket?
— DrewM

Obama-Clinton, Clinton-Obama, either way itÂ’s Liberal and Liberaler.

Speaking on "The Early Show" on CBS, Clinton said "that may be where this is headed, but of course we have to decide who is on the top of the ticket."

Clinton said the race between her and Obama remains "incredibly close," with just "smidgens of difference" between them in both the popular vote and number of delegates.

Video here.

She cackles when giving the answer and she only does that when she hates whatÂ’s being said, so I am not sure how sincere she is about this.

While thereÂ’s ample precedent for rivals teaming up on a ticket do these two really look like they are going to make that work?

Maybe if Obama had come up just short and the VP spot was offered to him but the way things are going, the only way Clinton gets the top spot is by some seriously Machiavellian maneuvering. Would the Obamassiah tarnish his brand by playing second fiddle the woman who “stole” the nomination from him?

If Obama holds her off, does anyone really see Hillary wanting to be VP? She probably won’t be a Gore/Cheney type with some independent power. She’s be the old school, “go to funerals and meet with second rate foreign dignitaries” type Didn’t she already do that for 8 years? And what does she bring to Obama beyond ‘party unity’, which he’d have anyway? With her on the ticket he’d have to deal with her baggage and if they won, 4 years of her efforts to undermine him.

Either way, Maverick is the Republican nominee so weÂ’re still screwed.

UPDATE: Obama says this is all a little 'premature'

"Osama for Obama" T-Shirt At Hillary Rally; Declares Obama Lies When He Says He Was Never a Muslim
— Ace

Fun stuff, but if you watch the video, it's not clear to me he's actually a Hillary supporter.

He may, in fact, belong to the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy. Or perhaps just to the Vast Novelty Political T-Shirt Conspiracy.

"The truth is he was born a Muslim, his father was a Muslim, his mother married a Muslim after divorcing his father. His grandfather was a Muslim. It doesn't matter. But what does matter is when Obama said he was never a Muslim. He was a Muslim. He was born a Muslim. He was a Muslim for six years of his life," Elbaum said.

Slublog's just happy that this bruising fight is going to go on for a bit:

demfightclub.jpg

Meanwhile, you've got Obama's increasingly unpleasant wife calling America a "downright mean country," which will please the Edwards-lovin', America-hatin' nutroots and few else.

Obama begins with a broad assessment of life in America in 2008, and life is not good: we’re a divided country, we’re a country that is “just downright mean,” we are “guided by fear,” we’re a nation of cynics, sloths, and complacents.

And to put the exclamation point on Little Miss Revolutionary Thang, Gateway Pundit has a pic of Michelle Obama hugging the staffer who flies the Che flag at her Obama office.

Suddenly I pine for the optimism, patriotism, and easy manner of First Lady Hillary Clinton.

I don't know if I want Hillary to win the nomination any more. Obama, a doctrinaire liberal and most likely a stealth leftist, seems a whole lot more beatable now. Hey, you want to know what a politician really thinks? Ask his shoot-from-the-lip loudmouth wife.

Or, hell, just ask Obama himself, who longs for the day Americans can have pride in America. For most of us, that day has been here a long, long time; for Obama, that day comes only upon his swearing in as President of the United States.

Talk about a cheap date. To get him to like us and our country, we need only elect him president. That's all he asks. Are you so churlish to deny him this simple request?

Did I say churlish? I meant racist, of course.

It's that sort of highly-contingent "patriotism" we've come to expect from America-hating leftists: I love the America that can be but, you know, isn't yet. They'll love America when it is less like America and more like France.

Maybe. It depends on how high we're able to get marginal tax rates on the wealthiest one percent.

I think maybe they should just cut out the middle-man and pledge allegiance to France directly.

Still, I guess it would be better to have the Democratic Party ripped apart by a vicious, racially-charged convention fight.

For the Democrats is the Aliens Vs. Predator tagline: Whoever wins... we lose.

It's Far Worse Than I Dreamed UPDATED
— Gabriel Malor

I'm not going to stay up for the final delegate tally, which I don't expect will be done 'til tomorrow anyway, but I do have a few thoughts about tonight's contests.

First, I was quite wrong about Clinton needing to drop out now. She still won't have the delegate lead, but it's not like Obama is close to the finish line. It looks like there will be a few more nights like this, at the very least, before the race is won.

Second, when did Ohio and Texas become "Obama's states to lose," as I just heard someone say on FOX News? Clinton was long-expected to take both states handily until Obama surged in the polls last week and all the commentators (including me) convinced themselves that he was unstoppable. The same thing happened in New Hampshire, if you will recall. Obama's real defeat tonight isn't in the numbers, which really aren't so bad. It's in his failure to meet the media's expectations.

Third, so far as we know, at least two AOSHQ cobloggers have cast strategic cross-over votes, something that I would not have anticipated a year ago. This election is turning everything upside down. However, I can't help but think that a word of caution is in order, especially when it comes to keeping Clinton's candidacy alive. I've just got that ringing danger-sense in the back of my head. I feel like an American citizen wandering at night in a Central American city. It's exciting and there's plenty of fun to be had and it sometimes feels a lot like home, but things can go so much more catastrophically wrong than back home and you can always feel it nagging. What if Clinton wins?

Also, moron Verity Kindle put it colorfully in the comments:

Seven more weeks?! I, unfortunately, live in Filthydelphia and every damn time I go to my favorite pizza place, she's on the giant television, blaring away in her civil-defense-siren screech. That woman could peel paint with just her voice! I can't take it anymore! My pizza tastes like Hillary!! She..just...won't...die. SweetBabyBuddha, please let me have a nice peaceful bolt of lightning before I have to see her rictus of a smile stretched one more time across Stavros's Pizza Coliseum 40-inch flatscreen. My humble meal is as ashes in my mouth. ThankyewAymen.

I agree wholeheartedly.

Finally, thank God that Huckabee is getting off the stage. Maybe we won't have to hear from him for eight years, huh?

Morning Update: Boy, Clinton sure has a good grasp of political moment. On the Early Show today, she intimated that it'd be okay if Obama joined her ticket. She has a momentary advantage in momentum (but likely not in the delegate count) and she's playing it for all she's worth.

Whoa. Just noticed that Drew is writing about the same thing above. Be sure and check out his slightly different take. Heh. And it's in the headlines, too. And it's in the comments to this post, which means that we have once again outdone ourselves here at Moron Headquarters. Brining you the news story you need to know (and nothing else!).

Storm the Court on Global Warming
— Gabriel Malor

The founder of the Weather Channel, John Coleman, is sorely disappointed with his creation's direction, including its traffic coverage and acceptance of global warming.

Coleman also told the audience his strategy for exposing what he called “the fraud of global warming.” He advocated suing those who sell carbon credits, which would force global warming alarmists to give a more honest account of the policies they propose.

“[I] have a feeling this is the opening,” Coleman said. “If the lawyers will take the case – sue the people who sell carbon credits. That includes Al Gore. That lawsuit would get so much publicity, so much media attention. And as the experts went to the media stand to testify, I feel like that could become the vehicle to finally put some light on the fraud of global warming.”

Interesting idea, but this is not a good way to push back against global warming alarmists. First, global warming is getting lots of media attention already, although it's not neutral coverage on the issue. Does Coleman somehow think that the various scientific journals, not to mention the legacy media, will start presenting "climate change deniers" as something other than paid stooges of oil companies just because they are now involved in a lawsuit? I just don't see how media attention to the topic changes because the question is in the courts.

Second, lawyers and judges are not usually very good at science or math. I don't mean to be insulting, but it's entirely possible for them to sit and listen to Coleman's experts and understand less than half of what they hear. If you want to see an important decision with long-lasting effects in which judges magnificently misunderstand the basic scientific and technological ideas involved, see Justice Scalia's opinion in Kyllo v. United States. And that wasn't even a science-intensive case. More than that, contemplate for a minute what happens if the question is put to a jury.

Third, court cases do not settle public policy contests. Think about it. We're still fighting about plenty of topics that have been litigated to death, like evolution and creationism in schools, gay marriage, and the mother of all public policy issues: ABORTION. Global warming will be no different. In fact, an adverse decision will just energize the losing side and increase the contempt that Americans feel towards the justice system.

I think what Coleman wants is an even playing ground in which his experts can get a fair hearing. Unfortunately, I don't think the courts are going to be that place.

FOXNEWS, CNN CALL OHIO FOR HILLARY, POSSIBLY BY 10+ POINTS
FOXNEWS CALLS TEXAS FOR HILLARY, TOO

— Ace

Popular Vote Win In Texas: The problem is that Obama can still eke out a victory in delgates. Yeah, it's weird.

Woot! Big night for My Girl.

From Hillary's website: Obama poses with/carjacks a
high-tech tractor in Texas; three dead.

Fresh Update: All my braggadocio about the AoSHQ Decision Desk aside, it's looks like I may have been wrong. My girl may -- may -- actually pull it out tonight. The BBC has a Hillary flack spinning Hillary winning three out of four -- but of course she'd say that. What do they have to lose at this point?

Still, it's questionable if wins today can even save her.

But the longer this bruising primary goes on, the better.

Bit more at Michelle's link: El Rushbo may be impacting the Texas race, as Texas Republicans cross over to vote for the Wicked Witch of the Senate.

Thanks to Winston for the tip.

...

Drudge Siren:

EXIT POLLS: DEADLOCK IN TX, OH, RI

Drew, trying to piss me off, writes:

Obama usually does better in the exits than he does in actual votes, which can suck for him. Apparently white liberals aren't above lying about having voted for the, uh, not so white, candidate.

The AoSHQ Decision Desk remains closed. Obama won.

Geraghty.. Also is pissing me off over at his cushy corporate NRO gig where the "suits" tell him what he can and can't write. He says:

For the first set, Obama is up by 2 percent in Ohio, Hillary is up by 2 percent in Texas, Hillary is up by 3 percent in Rhode Island and Obama is up by a 2 to 1 margin in Vermont.

The second set is similarly close - Hillary up by 2 percent in Ohio, the two Democrats tied in Texas, Obama ahead by 2 percent in Rhode Island and a similar 2 to 1 margin in Vermont.

Thanks to JackM.

I'd love, love for Hillary to win. I want to believe.

Picture thanks to Right Wing Sparkle.

Older updates below the fold. But I still want credit if Obama trounces. more...

PRC premier calls for barren shelves and waiting lines
— Purple Avenger

Apparently, Wen JiaBao hasn't learned the Mugabian lesson about price controls and inflation yet and is willing to give it another go, because surely it'll work this time if they apply enough Huckabeeian style faith.

...Wen Jiabao said restraining inflation that has been blamed on rapid economic growth and shortages of key food items is a top priority.

"To fulfill this task, we must take powerful measures to increase effective supplywhile curbing excessive demand,"...

Price controls always work well at curbing shortages. Mugabe executed this pivot to near perfection. Of course another way to reduce excessive demand and increase effective supply is the Soylent Green option.

Enough politics, spring training is underway!
— Purple Avenger

Check this shit out -- I'm predicting a wild upset in both leagues this year. What you see now, is what's going to the World Series. Bank on it..

AL #1: DevilRays 1.000 4-0
NL #1: Marlins .714 5-2

A World Series that doesn't involve snow would be quite a treat now that we're into global cooling.

And yes, I have been drinking tonight. Heavily. It seemed like the only solution since I'm watching the Clinton HQ feed.
