I know we're not supposed to make Hitler analogies, but the MSM is playing Hitler ordering Sadr's phantom divisions here and there to stop Patton and the Soviets.

And they're having about as much success at it.

Bonus! The MNF-I formally, rhetorically declares war on Sadr's Army of Assholes. And no, they hadn't really done that before.

While MNF-I continues to refer to the Shia militias as “criminals” or Special Groups in their press releases, there are no longer any calls for the Mahdi Army to obey Muqtada al Sadr’s cease-fire order.This is occurring as the Iraqi government and MNF-I are pressing the fight against the Mahdi Army in Baghdad, Basra, and elsewhere in the South.

In the past, MNF-I press releases would refer to Sadr with the honorific “al-Sayyid” and appeal to the Mahdi Army to adhere to the ceasefire....

Now, MNF-I is explicitly stating the goal is to “capture or kill these criminals” while dropping any pretenses about the neutrality of the Mahdi Army.

Read the whole thing. Condi Rice's bating of Sadr by calling him a coward bitterly clinging to Iran's skirts seems to be part of this escalation of rhetoric.

So... the MNF-I used to pretend that Sadr was a legitimate political player and has now declared him a coward and his Army of Assholes criminal enemies of the state. We were afraid of the repercussions of moving forcefully against Sadr; now we're going after him full-tilt.

Damn, he must really be kicking our asses to provoke an overreaction like this, huh?

Erm...

I wrote Goldfarb to ask if Downey could mean he can't be a liberal after his experiences, and so is now an anarcho-syndicalist or something. Because it really seems unlikely that a guy who reads as liberal communist as all get out is now some kind of conservative.

Or even a moderate, which is an archconservative in Hollywood.
