Congress set to pass private jet fuel tax hike
— Purple Avenger

My question to these morons is how do they plan on distinguishing at the pump between JET-A pumped into say a twin Otter or Pilatus Porter cargo plane and Jet-A pumped into a Cessna Citation "business jet"?

This places a much greater book keeping burden on the FBO operators at smaller airports. In the past they never had to care about what sort of airplane the fuel was being pumped into.

This is like saying there will be different tax rates for gas pumped into a Hybrid versus an SUV.

Baseball - pigs fly, elephants dance, Tigers wallow
— Purple Avenger

This is shaping up to be an interesting season. Earlier, I'd insanely predicted that the FL Marlins and hapless DevilRays would meet in WS this fall. Admittedly, this was a heavily chemical and alcohol based prediction. A week binging on some of the Hells Angels finest meth makes you say some pretty stupid shit.

However, at this early juncture, that retarded prediction doesn't seem to be completely out of the realm of possibility
.

The Marlins ARE in fact leading their division, and the supposedly stacked Mets are a game and a half behind them. The Devil Rays are playing better than .500 ball so far winning 5 in a row, and closing in on Boston like Ted Kennedy charging an unguarded bottle of Chivas. I've not yet come to grips with Baltimore leading the AL east, so I'll just casually dismiss that as some obscure defect in the display drivers on this computer since it can't possibly be true.

So what's up with the Tigers these days? They scored Cabrera and Willis from the Marlins and were supposedly stacked. They're sucking canal water playing sub-.500 and being beaten by the perennial also ran Royals. Can't be too much joy in Tigertown these days. Razor blades and rope must be flying off the shelves in Michigan these days.

The Diamondbacks are looking very strong. A few years ago I predicted they'd be serious contenders at some point in the near future. This may be that year. The rest of the NL west is sub-.500 and sucking canal water, which is a surprise. I expected a tight race there, with the exception of the Giants who I expected to fade right out of the gate like a sno-cone in July. They're still #2 in the division even though they're sub-.500. WTF?

NFL Draft Open Thread
— Dave in Texas

Hey, Michael Vick was a number one pick, couple a few years ago.

Things change. Yes they do.

Two guys named Long. OT. DE. They'll probably chew each other's faces off one day.

So, it's a Saturday night NFL Draft open thread, in which I scratch my own head and try to figure out why we Cowboy fans want to deal with Pacman Jones' bullshit.

Well. TO worked out ok. Maybe we're like, NFL rehab for assholes or something.

Drunk Monkeys [dri]
— Open Blog

Monkeys, like their human cousins enjoy their gin n' juice. Years of emulating humans have left these Caribbean simians in need of a 12 step program. Well, probably a 13 step program as the step "Accept a higher power" would include both god and man (the higher power that got them into trouble in the first place). In any event, these chimps really know how to tie one on and tempt being arrested by the gorillas for SUI (swinging under the influence).

Pure Herbal Viagra for Chicks?
— Dave in Texas

Scentuelle’s “libido patch” for women.

Dangit, who the hell picks a woman writer with a one year old baby and a cat to review this fucking thing? Hell-oo? She's kinda, preoccupied until 2012.

Still, she gave it a shot ladies, and for that she gets some credit.

My advice, put it somewhere no one can see it (ball of the heel?. No. Behind the left earlobe. No, that won't work either. Ok, gimme a minute to figure out where... ok! Middle left scalp, shave and comb over) and see if it works or not.

My left, I mean.

I'm the love Doctor. I'm a giver and I want it to be good for you too.

thanks to ghenghis. I think.

No Surprise: McCain's Never Actually Seen the NC Ad [someone]
— Open Blog

Michelle Malkin has the story, if you haven't seen it yet.

McCain Math is the same as MSM Math: Southern + Republican + video featuring radical leftists who happen to be black = RACISTRACISTRACISTRACISTDANGERWILLROBINSON!
That about sums it up, I think.

Deal or No Deal Star Wars Ep
— Gabriel Malor

I'm not a fan of Deal or No Deal, but morons may want to tune in this week to see the models in Slave-Leia outfits. Darth Vader will be the Banker. Stormtroopers will hold the cases, too.

Or, if you don't want to sit through the excruciating program--wherein people make frustratingly idiotic decisions about whether to proceed--you can watch the videos here.

Professor Science: I'm Very Influential You Know
— Dave in Texas

I can't endorse just anybody you know. I have to think about this..

“I’ll be very cautious about what I do,” he said, noting his effort to encourage his supporters to get involved with their local Republican committee. “If I just endorse somebody from another party and walk away, that probably wouldn’t go over too well.”

I'm glad his supporters that live near me put those big friggin signs on their privacy fences.

It's important to know where "they" are.

Digging it Out
— Dave in Texas

It's really winning hearts and minds.

Listening to this young soldier explain his job, well, it just makes me nod and acknowledge that the order of battle is in tune.

Beating an insurgency requires bringing the locals into your fold. That they believe you are not only their best chance, that you're on their side.

Battlestar Galactica: Escape Velocity Discussion Thread

I can haz BSG thred?

I'm gonna be busy tonight, so this is going up early. Just remember, John McCain wants you to treat each other respectfully and civilly in the comments.

Spoiler Policy: Anything from the miniseries and the show up to and including tonight's episode is fair game; no need to warn or in some way obscure text for anything that comes from that material. However, anything you may have heard about future episodes should be kept to yourself. Thanks.
