Sometimes It's What's Not Said That's Important
— DrewM.from52to48withlove

In his inaugural address President Obama (how fucking cool is that?) said the following in talking about Americans who make America great (I can say that now with out rolling my eyes) he said the following...

For us, they fought and died, in places like Concord and Gettysburg; Normandy and Khe Sahn.

Notice who was not included. Places like Fallujah in Iraq or Konar Province in Afghanistan. Nope those are Bush's wars, not America's.

God, is he (Bush) gone yet?

Benezzediction
— A New Ace for a New Era

I'm so glad we've moved past race in America.

Obama's benedictator, as quoted by Gabriel Hussein Malor (replaces/corrects incomplete quote from Drudge:

Benediction at Obama 's inauguration, Rev. Joseph Lowery

: 'Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day

Black will not be asked to get in back;

When Brown can stick around;

When Yellow will be mellow;

When the Red Man can get ahead, man;

And when White will embrace what is right.

That all those who do justice and love mercy say Amen. Say Amen'...

When even Jews get the Blues, and the Chinee is no longer tin-ee.

Amen. Our President, who Art in Washington, hallowed be thy name.

More: A reader sends a first draft of Lowery's benezzediction:

When whitey, will kiss my hiney.

When old white folk, are busted and broke.

When all the honkies, get down on their knees.

When cracker boys, give up their toys.

When fine white ladies, feast on my gravy.

Then we'll be half way there.

Vid:

Look at The One smile. It's so funny.

From Allah, with an exit question.

The Question isn't Whether Government is Too Large or Too Small
— ObamaFan in Texas

It's whether or not your government WORKS.

See? In the new Age of Obama, size doesn't matter!

I knew this was gonna be awesome!

Bush Departs Washington
— A New Ace for a New Era

Bush just got on Marine One -- wait, it's not Marine One anymore, as Maddow, Matthews, and Olbermann keep triumphantly reminding us -- and Matthews wonders gleefully how the throngs of happy people will look to Bush. Will he take it as a rebuke? One can only hope.

"He must behold the crowds with wonder and dismay," Matthews says.

The crowd is chanting "na na na na, na na na na, hey-ey-ey, goodbye." Matthews, Maddow, and Olbermann refuse to note this. They simply pretend they didn't hear the loud, raucous taunting. Because they're too classy to point this out.

We're all thrilled to see this Cowboy Imperialist Torture-Monger depart, but perhaps, in the spirit of the New Unity, we can manage to suppress our hatred to say a kind word for the departing President, and what he accomplished, and how we will miss him.

Power Vacuum:

2 Who occupies the important Office of the President-Elect now?

-- Waterhouse

The Long Goodbye: Chris parodies what a neocon warmonger might say and offers this farewell to Bush:

Sorry for the length...but I wrote this a couple of weeks ago, and this seems as good a place as any to post it again:

To borrow shamelessly from a great man (who, in fact, turned out to be quite wrong with this assessment): the world will little note, nor long remember, what I say here. This does not matter, for what I say needs to be said. It is, simply: thank you, President George W. Bush.

Thank you for leading our great nation for these past eight years.

Thank you for your strength in the wake of the horror of September 11th, 2001.

Thank you for having the courage to call evil by its true name.

Thank you for keeping our country safe since that horrible day; few, if any, would have believed in September 2001 that the United States would be free from attack for the next seven years, yet that is precisely what has happened.

Thank you for removing the murderous dictator Saddam Hussein from his seat of power, and, when the war in Iraq seemed to be (and, indeed, was) going poorly for our side, thank you for your resolve not to abandon the Iraqi people to despair, but rather to finish the fight; this resolve has today turned the tide and all but won the fight against those who would keep the Iraqi people under their thumbs, afraid to walk the streets.

Thank you for caring so deeply about the men and women that you have sent into battle around the world; thank you for taking the time to send a personal letter to the families of each and every soldier who has fallen in this war. (Thank you, as well, for never making this widely known, despite the fact that it could have been a political coup; thank you for realizing that some things are far more important than politics.)

Thank you for the amazing humanitarian work that you have done in Africa; you have, during your administration, more than doubled the amount of aid given to that continent under any previous President. Even your political rivals can find no fault with this aspect of your administration.

And, yes, speaking of those rivals...thank you for the grace, common decency, and sense of humor that you have shown under the most abominable character assassination imaginable. Thank you for being able to laugh at the fact that, yes, you do sometimes say things in a bit of a cockeyed way. (Thank you, also, for having the courtesy not to point out that most people, were they to have the vast majority of everything they say every day for eight years of their life recorded on videotape, would be rather likely to sound silly at times, as well.)

You, I'm sure, would be the first to join me in thanking God for bringing you to faith in Christ, and for allowing His love to shape your life and your interactions with others.

Most of all, though, President Bush, thank you for being willing to shoulder the burdens that come inherent in the job that you have filled these eight years, and thank you for doing so with love in your heart for all the citizens of this country. Those citizens may disagree with you in some respects, but there can be no serious question of the love you have for your country and God.

Thank you.

Updates: Crowd taunts Bush with catcalls at Andrews Air Force base, to board a plane formerly designated Air Force One. Maddow, Matthews, and Olbermann once again fail to note the behavior of Obama's supporters, preferring instead to find Bush's rebuke in the size and jubilation of the crowd.

Slubama writes:

Heh. I'm watching cnn.com. When Bush got into the airplane [I think he meant "helicopter"], someone in the background at CNN clapped and I heard "Yeah."

Awesome. I'm glad the CONSERVATIVE News Network is finally adding some balance.

"An Extraordinary Speech, No Other Way To Describe It" -- Andrea Mitchell

"Man, the media is going full retard." -- Jimmy.

Neocon fetus-fetishist Ramesh Ponuru notes the many partisan cheap shots taken.

Slubama praises it as the "most partisan inaugural address in recent history." He's delighted by the almost-unprecedented cheap-shotting of the outgoing president.

A New Pledge For A New Era
— DrewM.from52to48withlove

obamapotus.jpg

I pledge allegiance to Obama, the greatest President ever and the country he rulz. One movement, under Him. Indivisible, with hope and change for all.

God, it's good to finally be able to love this country. No, not this country... My country! Our country! His country!

What's Your Pledge? [Ace]: Celebrities are making pledges. To smile more, to be better parents. (Things which they apparently could not do when the GOP held the White House, the bitter misogynist neocon AllahPundit snipes.)

What are your pledges? In what tangible ways will you serve our new (first?) President? more...

A Question For My Fellow Hope And Changers
— DrewM.from52to48withlove

How come you don't hear about wingnuts threatening to leave the country now that OBAMA is President (how AWESOME IS THAT!!!11!!!ELEVENTY!!)? It's almost like they don't care as much about who is President as they just like America in their own blind and simplistic way.

My question...how can that be?

Don't get me wrong, I wish they'd leave but it took everything I had not to move to Canada or France during the last eight years.
