I knew a bank president from Iowa some years ago who was caught taking bribes to give farm loans. He was sentenced to 3 years at Eglin. We went to visit him and he walks out into the visiting area wearing designer jeans and Nikes, after coming in off the tennis courts. There were no cells at Eglin, its open barracks housing, and there were no fences (other than around the tennis courts) - just a line painted on the ground the "prisoners" aren't supposed to cross over. Unfortunately, the pool was filled in years ago after John Mitchell was photographed lounging in it sipping Mint Juleps, so there is some hardship - a resort without a pool is distinctly 2nd rate.

New Republican hero Joe Wilson is raking in the dough:

The source said Wilson's current tally is $1,005,021 from 18,859 donations amid a high-profile campaign on the Drudge Report and elsewhere telling conservatives that Wilson is "under attack" for his willingness to take on Obama.

Wilson, who initially apologized for his words, is now riding a reaction that has surpassed the liberal backlash to his words: Miller has raised less than $900,000, according to the Democratic fundraising site ActBlue -- though still more than enough to envigorate his challenge.

You just knew this had to happen after Miller spent the last few days bragging about his own haul. Karma.

You never know with these guys -- he can be pushing this forecast so if we start to gain jobs in a "mere" two years he can sing about how Obama's beaten expectations.

TGIF all ONTers. It's been a long hard week so tonight's theme is Whiskey!
In recent years my favorite drink has been whiskey, single malts in particular. But the catch with single malt whiskeys is that their taste can vary wildly from brand to brand and sometimes even year to year.

Until you try a brand, you don't quite know what you're going to get. Case in point: Laphroaig. Based on internet reviews I sprung for a bottle of 10 Year Old. They claim it's made from barley, water, and yeast, but they're lying - the fourth ingredient seems to be large amounts of Chloraseptic. Uggh.
And yeah I know I'll be thrown out of the cool whiskey drinkers club for saying this.

This is an awesome ad from Johnny Walker done by Robert Carlyle of Trainspotting, The Full Monty, and 28 Weeks later. Actually since it's 5 minutes long, it's more of an infomercial. And according to this interview it took 2 days and 40 takes to get it right.

I had a flash of inspiration last Thursday. After work, my father and I hopped in the car & drove up to Ames to see Iowa State open their season against North Dakota State (they won, if you're wondering). As I was watching the start of another year's worth of college football, with all the hope and pride that it brings to fans all around the country, I had an insight.

Three Point Five Yards.

Now those of you who know football realize that a 3.5-yard gain is nothing for the highlight reels. We're talking about 10.5 feet, or 126 inches if you prefer to think on that scale.

* Actually I doubt they broke any law -- conspiracy requires an agreement that a crime will be committed, which the women were not agreeing to; they were merely (and I use that term advisedly) giving advice as to how a crime could be committed -- but it's interesting the DA finds that question uninteresting but wants to "vet" O'Keefe and Giles.

Memo to Brietbart: Put them under contract to pay them, going forward and retroactively, any videos they provide to you with first rights. Say, $100 a video accepted.
