Honduras Issues Deadline to Brazil Over Zelaya
— Dave in Texas

Accusing them of fomenting insurrection within their borders and using their embassy as a base of operations.

Since the clandestine arrival to Honduras by ex-president Zelaya, the Brazil embassy has been used to instigate violence and insurrection against the Honduran people and the constitutional government," the secretary of foreign affairs for Honduras' de facto government said in a statement late Saturday night.

The statement said Honduras would be forced to take measures against Brazil if Brazil did not define its position on Zelaya. It did not specify what those measures would be.

"Legal process, courts and constitution", allow me to introduce you to "rest of the world and 'our guy'. He may be an SOB but by God he's our SOB."

Shameful.

NYT Reporter Scrubbed ACORN Quote Report Because He Didn't Want To Imply They Were Lying
— DrewM

Remember when ACORN issued a statement saying O'Keefe and Giles were turned away for their NY office but in fact they had received advice for their proposed scheme? Well the Times kindly edited the quote for ACORN so readers didn't know that ACORN's statement was 'no longer operative'.

According the NY Times' Public Editor the reporter says he scrubbed that quote because he didn't want to imply ACORN was lying.

Scott Shane, the reporter, said he had been unable to reach Lewis and felt that including New York among the cities she mentioned would have implied unfairly that she was lying, something for which he had no evidence. He said he thought it was unlikely that employees in New York would inform her of their misconduct before the video appeared.

Awww, wasn't that sweet of Mr. Shane?

I'm no big time journalist like Mr. Shane but perhaps instead of taking it upon himself to act as Bertha Lewis' defense counsel he might have noted in his story that since the statement was released another tape has surfaced and that Lewis had not been available for comment on the new revelation.

There might have been an issue of fairness if the tape had been released 5 minutes before Shane's deadline. In that case Lewis might not have had time to respond and Shane and the Times would have to decide whether to hold the story or run it with the "not available for comment' tag. Those are legitimate choices. editing a quote because you can't image a public figure in the midst of a breaking scandal would lie? No, that's not a legitimate option.

BTW- I wouldn't buy the 'too close to the deadline idea' (not that the Times' is crying that). The NY tape broke on Biggovernment.com at 12:35am, September 14th. Shane's story didn't run in the paper until September 16th. That means that Lewis had all day on the 14th and 15th to correct that statement before Shane's story ran.

Sorry, just because a public figure elects not to comment on a breaking story for two days doesn't mean you clean it up for them.

Now, I could be wrong about the timeline but I just showed my work. You can check it, disagree and pull it apart. Mr. Shane's readers only had his word for what Lewis said and he didn't convey it correctly.

That difference is one of the key factors in the battle between old media and new. With so many direct sources now, a lot of people aren't satisfied with what The Deciders are deciding.

Added thought: Why does it matter whether or not Lewis knew the facts? She released the statement. If she jumped ahead of her knowledge of the situation that's her problem, not the Times'.

The fact that she didn't know all of the facts before shooting off a statment gives credence to the point of the videos...ACORN is an out of control organization.

Does Mr. Shane contact every person who releases a press statement to ask them if the are sure, really, really sure, they have all their ducks in a row and want their press release published?

I doubt it.

He's not interested in what?! (tmi3rd)
— Open Blog

Of all the things I've heard this president say, this may be the single most shocking and enraging I've heard:

Thanks very much to HotAirPundit, via Instapundit.

As a lurking moron so eloquently put it on Facebook, I hope he's also equally disinterested in victory in 2010 and 2012. Jerk.

Item #1: The Glamour of Soviet Russian Space Flight
These are photos from the return of Soyuz TMA-11 from the International Space Station in April of last year. Due to a malfunction it entered the atmosphere at a much steeper angle than normal and landed 475km off target. It was unusual in that it was the first non-solo spaceflight with a majority female crew. Of course the head of the Russian Space Agency blamed this for the problems and pledged to avoid the situation in the future. New policy: chicks don't drive the Soyuz.

Iran Helping Venezuela Find Uranium Deposits
— Dave in Texas

Yeah, this is going to turn out well.

Mining Minister Rodolfo Sanz said Iran has been assisting Venezuela with geophysical survey flights and geochemical analysis of the deposits, and that evaluations "indicate the existence of uranium in western parts of the country and in Santa Elena de Uairen," in southeastern Bolivar state.

"We could have important reserves of uranium," Sanz told reporters upon arrival on Venezuela's Margarita Island for a weekend Africa-South America summit. He added that efforts to certify the reserves could begin within the next three years.

Given that Obama has already decided Iran will have nuclear weapons I expect our next move will be to provide stimulus money to Burritohead so they can fund exploration and mining to move things along faster.

General McChrystal's Troop Request Shelved By Obama Administration
— DrewM

Remember when Afghanistan was the essential front in the War on Man Made Disasters? Back then it was bad to take your eye off the fight there and not provide enough troops.

Now?

Change!

U.S. and NATO Afghanistan commander Gen. Stanley McChrystal's long-awaited report containing a request for additional troops on Saturday was submitted to the Pentagon, but the Defense Department will hold it until the Obama administration reconfigures its Afghan strategy.

Spokesman Lt. Col. Tadd Sholtis told media outlets today that McChrystal hand delivered the report to Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Mike Mullen and NATO Supreme Allied Commander Adm. James Stavridis.

In the report, which was leaked to the Washington Post on Monday, McChrystal warned of "mission failure" if the size of the allied force in Afghanistan remains the same.

The White House, however, has asserted that it will review the nation's entire Afghan strategy before considering McChrystal's request. But top Republican lawmakers have been pressuring the administration to act quickly.

I've already gone through why this idea of reviewing the strategy is misleading at best.

This is so typical of liberal Democrats. They aren't against robust defense or war they cry, they are just always against the war we happen to actually be fighting. But some theoretical future war? Oh absolutely, under the right conditions they are so there.

This also is likely tied to the health care debacle unfolding on Capital Hill. The "progressives" are already upset that Obama wasn't pushing for a single payer system but they are furious that there might not even be the Trojan Horse of a "robust" government option.

Obama can probably pull them along on one or the other but not both.

Seems he's made his choice.

Hi, folks. After crawling out from under the biology/organic chemistry rock for a few hours, I noticed some things happening in the world that I wanted to point out to you...

The Washington Times has an editorial that points out a couple of things in the Max Baucus Senate bill that are less than appealing.

Item #1: The Mystery of 'Lady Be Good'
[warning long post below]

In 1958 a British oil exploration team flying deep in the Libyan desert spotted the wreckage of a WWII bomber. Later a ground team visited the site and identified it as the US B-24D bomber "Lady Be Good" which had gone MIA after an April 4, 1943 bombing raid over Italy. Although broken in two the plane was in remarkably preserved condition with still working machine guns and radio. However there was no sign of the crew. So how did the bomber end up over 1000 miles away from its target and whatever happened to the crew?
