"It rained like a double-c*nted cow pissing off a cliff through a screen door onto a flat rock."
That Texas lingo makes great dialogue in "No Country For Old Men" and "Hell or High Water."

Need to convince my bride that we need to move the fuck out of Colorado and come back here. We need not live in Billings; hell, I ain't crazy about Billings. But Montana feels so much like home. Prolly because I was born in Butte and spent my childhood split between Billings and Cody WY., which is like Montana's potato cellar.

127 Texans can comment on this.
The people can now see the [DS] system, who is involved and what lengths they will go to reach their goal. This is going to get worse before it gets better. The [DS] is now ramping up the riots to push their multiple agendas, race wars, gun control and it just so happens that this is happening exactly when Arizona is going to be audited. Flynn states that the Arizona and Michigan audits are tactically important. The world is watching. Stay alert the [DS] will counter.

There are bugs and there are bugs. Ants I can deal with, as long as they have the same weakness as the ones here. Hawaii had flying cockroaches too, plus centipedes. Sometimes house centipedes show up here after a few days of rain, and it's just sad. Trying to act hard, like they're real centipedes. Hawaiian centipedes are eight feet long and will steal the rims off your car out of your driveway and sell them for meth in Waianae.

I've noticed that the number of "peaceful protests" that end up with the Apple Store getting looted and burned have a strong correlation with how easy it is to get and carry a firearm.
We had a couple of peaceful protests here in Alaska last round. And they were, indeed, peaceful protests. The people came out with their signs, chanted for a while, and then they went the fuck home.
They didn't burn down McDonalds, or start dragging drivers out of their cars and beating them.
Might have something to do with a "liberal" here being defined as "someone who doesn't own anything larger than .357 Magnum", and us having constitutional carry. Ya' think?

212 +1 for Terro liquid ant bait.  We've had problems with "Odorous House Ants" (because they stink when you squish them) that are sometimes called "sugar ants" or "piss ants."  They were all over our kitchen faucet earlier in the month.  The bait is taken back to the nest and kills them all... eventually.  It's not quick and might take a week, but it works.

217 We may get blackouts here in CA, but as long as I've lived in S.F., it has rarely ever dropped to below above freezing.  Worsts were 29.5 in 1998 and 27 in 1990, but it was bone dry and no cloud cover (which is partly responsible for the cold since cloud cover helps retain heat).  (Below freezing would mean <32 and I'm including 32, hence "below above freezing".)

Rodrigo... it won't weld plate, but it will dim the lights a bit when it cycles.  1750 watts, it's right at the limit of a 20 amp breaker.

It was rated to solder electrical main circuits on a Nuke Sub.  That's 440vac.  Cables about 3/4" thick, close as I can recall.

You'd never use this on a printed circuit board.  Unless you like melted silicone and copper, that is.

So, the baby/toddler became enough of a problem that I had to install barriers around the house. She's cruising around, thrashing things, and imposing herself on me and her sister while we're trying to work and study.

So I made a prison for her, and she broke out of it by shoving one of these pressure-fit gates into the kitchen. At first, I was annoyed, because I was thinking "Great! Now I can spend tomorrow morning drilling these things into door-jambs. Wonderful."

But then I thought a little harder about it. This bitch took the drills and saws to the head half a dozen times in the last year or so, and she woke up the next morning laughing about it and asking for a glass of milk, every single time. All the doctors said she wouldn't even be able to crawl until she was three, but now, at fifteen months, she's standing up and busting down the gates I put up to keep her under control.

Beaches in Seattle?   Salt water or fresh water?
Salt water, the top two are Alki and Golden Gardens.  Fresh water, almost anywhere along Lake Washington Boulevard south of I-90, most is a public park and accessible by car or bicycle.
And then there are the mega-land areas of Discovery Park (salt water) and Magnuson Park (northernish Lake Washington).  Both at one time were military owned.    You can get lost hiking around Discovery Park if you have the time, also the least amount of people.
and no, I'm not nurse rached, just a native who travelled a lot but always returned.

415 I got wrongfully terminated from a job in college.  Owner of the business was about my age.  He couldn't get into the USC business school so he dropped out and started his own company, a sports card shop in the Sunset district here.  This was around 1990 when cards were taking off and I was just getting into them (and needed to earn some scratch).  I was the only employee that was not a friend of the owner and his younger brother.  He hired me because I'd spent a year at USC, a connection of sorts.  The job was fun but I always felt like the odd man out.  I went to a sports card show in San Jose one weekend and when I got back, at the end of the day, Tracy, the owner, took me aside and said that someone saw me at the show selling boxes of cards that had gone missing from the store.  (I didn't sell anything; I bought things at the show.)  Thing is, he couldn't look me in the eye when he was saying this.  I looked squarely at him and said:  "Tracy, I didn't steal anything.  I'm the only honest employee you have and you know that."  I was and he did; his and his brother's friends were constantly stealing and they didn't want me around because I didn't steal, ever, period.  But I didn't stay where I wasn't wanted.

422 The public library here is good - and via their consortium with the county and university libraries, there are not that many titles I can't get (the more obscure history titles are the only ones).

They happened to have slipped when I got two large, hard-bound history books (all I really read).  They didn't log them out.  So in the system, I don't have them.

One has a bit of damage and a few pages missing, so I was going to recommend they buy a new copy anyway, before I noticed it wasn't technically checked out to me.  So that one I'll just keep, probably.  Other one is new, fairly popular/in demand (Ian Toll's final part of his Pacific War Trilogy, "Twilight of the Gods"), so that one I'll finish up and turn in of course.

453 I pick up something new, sometimes important, sometimes just interesting, from every additional book I read on the same topic - talking  WWII history.   Probably just SOP for "history" - which is a nearly impossible and incredibly difficult attempt to recreate reality, for those not directly involved, after the fact.

Everyone knows there were precious few prisoners taken in the Pacific by the Allies, and they know why.  I didn't know that on Okinawa, towards the very end, the last stand in the southern part of the island, the leaflets and loudspeaker appeals by Nisei American troops actually started to get traction, and thousands of Japanese soldiers surrendered.

One Nisei interpreter even volunteered to accompany a surrendered Japanese officer back to the cave where his men were deciding what to do.  He convinced them to give up, and live.  There's one Medal of Honor that was missed.  My gawd what a valorous, and noble, act.

And on Saipan there was the Mexican-American guy, who was adopted into a Japanese-American household and had conversational Japanese, who convinced many civilians and some military to save their lives and surrender.  Such stories are so perfectly and searingly American, they'd probably be as incomprehensible to today's dumbed down and racist/tribalist-brainwashed people as the language of an extraterrestrial alien.

In the San Juan Islands.   On a boat that slept 6, and in a campground.   Dad had difficulty getting away for vacation, so it was usually a 3 day weekend, with maybe starting a day early.  When it was dry, it was sweet.  But when the rains showed up, oh boy, did they show up.

Heh.  I was essentially rail meat for a free trip on a 50'+ old sloop in Puget Sound, long ago in late fall (cold and wet),  I had at least grown up on a power boat and knew winds and tides, tacking against the wind, etc.  So I at least had a basic idea of carrying out a command from the skipper.  The weather changed and the waves went from a foot to 4'-6', and an extreme tide change, too boot.  The other 4 or 5 people were devoid of a single thought, it seemed.  None had ever been on a sailboat.  "NO!  Port means your LEFT side!!!   Left looking towards the BOW!   THE FRONT OF THE BOAT!!!"   "THE CLEAT IS THE THING YOU TWIST THE LINE AROUND!!!"  A sea of idiots, and these were professional adults, who should have at least been able to comprehend basic ideas.

Good times.  After it was over, the skipper thanked me, said he was getting a bit nervous, too.  Hey, I was on that boat, too, and wanted to make it back to the dock.

I know a  famous historian that said a mountain is a place where there are no trees at the top. Sure I get that, that is a pretty good line and a pretty good marker.

But I have been to Pike's Peak. I have been near the summit of Mount Whitney. To each his own, but I found the most solace in the Appalachians. That is what is great about this country, we can all find what matters most to us and it doesn't matter if it means a hill of beans to the next guy.

The biggest rain I ever say was in upstate NY. We were walking to chow and what was supposed to be a Lake Effect snow, became a Lake effect rain. one minute were were marching on asphalt and the next we were wading in over a foot of water.
