Maybe You Will Have Marco Rubio to Kick Around Anymore

Over at Hot Air, some are taking a second look at Rubio.

I liked his speech calling out Tom Harkin and the useful idiots on Cuba and Venezuela, but this does seem like too quick a bout of forgiveness. There might be some Cheap Date-ism going on in the party.

Meanwhile, a New Republic writer admits that Romney's much-media-derided "geopolitical foe" statement about Russia "seems exactly right."

Bonfire of the Vanities: Mead has a column up at The American Interest about how Crimea weakens Obama.

Facts destroy theory, every time.

WashingtonÂ’s flat-footed, deer-in-the-headlights incomprehension about RussiaÂ’s Crimean adventure undermines President ObamaÂ’s broader credibility in a deeply damaging way. If he could be this blind and misguided about Vladimir Putin, how smart is he about the Ayatollah Khameni, a much more difficult figure to read? President Obama is about to have a difficult meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu in which he will tell Netanyahu essentially that Israel should ground its national security policy on the wisdom of President Obama and his profound grasp of the forces of history. The effect will be somewhat undermined by President ObamaÂ’s failure to understand the most elementary things about Vladimir Putin.

With Hitler-style lies blasting from the well-tuned Russia propaganda machine (attacks on ethnic Russians! mass flight of refugees! fascism!) and armed soldiers backing up thugs in Crimea and elsewhere, President Putin is not exactly looking like a partner for peace at the moment—and Obama’s decision to work with him isn’t making President Obama look like a foreign policy genius.

Prime Minister Netanyahu—and many other world leaders—will be looking at President Obama with cold and calculating eyes. They can see that he turned to Russia for help when his Syrian red line policy collapsed; they can see that he is betting heavily that Russia will help him with Iran, both in the negotiations and at the UN Security Council. They observe how Washington was flabbergasted and stunned by the events in Ukraine, and they are likely to conclude that President Obama’s Middle East policy is in much worse shape than he thinks.

Both friends and foes are also probably thinking today that President Obama is going to have less control over the future of American foreign policy than he might like.

It's that he jumped in with both feet, joining the McCain/Grahamnesty/Jeb wing in what looks like from the outside like a very naive move. When you are trying to build a coalition, why throw in with a group that won't even concede the good faith differences on your own side. It's enough for Schumer to attribute all conservative opposition as "teh racism," why join in with the soft R's who say the same thing. Conservatives are tired of Rove, Jeb, McCain saving their harshest vitriol not for the Dems, but for conservatives/tea party types.

The GOP thinks they've been dealt a huge winning hand.  They don't have to do ANYTHING because Obamacide is so bad.  They're so confident of this, they've decided to focus on something their big money donors want; amnesty.  They're focusing on that because hey, awesome hand, and what are the voters going to do?  Vote for Democrats who also love amnesty?

No, I don't think so.  There's no one with that sense of inevitability like there was with     McCain and Romney.   Bush is damaged goods on accoutn of his name if nothing else.     The bigwigs may get behind him, but they're badly misunderstanding the feelings of teh country if they think anyone    wants to vote for another   member of the Bush family.

It is NOT 2016 yet. A great deal can -- and undoubtedly will -- happen before then, and it is the height of lunacy to attack yourself to one of the "likely" candidates now, unless you're nothing more than a political fanboi who wants to be sure Your Side wins the election, no matter what the cost.

If the election was today, I suspect the choice would be between Choom Boy and Choom Boy. Maybe someone will finally screw up the courage to blow the whistle on the America-hating fuck before what I fear actually plays out, but right now there's too much Poppin' Fresh-style "fairness" out there getting in the way of courage.

If we have a real election in '16, I'll look at who indicates a desire to be president, and make my choice in the primary and general elections.

I want the current immigration laws enforce before a similar fubar of Obamacare does the same with a new law. Senator Rubio knows this as he has heard from me. I honestly think once people go to DC they are threatened and bullied by special interest groups. I don't know, but time will tell if he flips again. He knows he has a lot to overcome from the mess he made.

Considering the fraud of Medicare and Medicaid was not attempted to be fixed first, before the vast left-wing Democrat document known as Obamacare was forced down our gullets, no, do not want a new and comprehensive immigration law from any part. Enforce the law and secure the borders first.

Of course, far left wing outlets like the NY Times will report something different, just as they were sure that Gore won over Bush, but that's just the way the MSM is.

And when that fails, the left's activists will feel cheated and betrayed and say "When is our voice heard?" If you want a true conservative president, work to get one nominated in the primaries. If he gets through to the general election, then vote for him there too. But if he DOESN'T make it to the general election, and you are faced with a squishy semi-conservative vs a hard-left loon, do you really want to "show the country how bad it can be under Democrats' misrule" on the gamble that eight years hence the country in disgust will elect a true conservative to undo the damage? With the media in control and spinning everything? With the left's white noise blame machine in full swing? In eight years, there will be different issues, unforeseeable now. It's ridiculous to throw away a decade of history on the gamble that you MIGHT later get a decade in return.

423 I don't think Rubio has done anything to disqualify himself as a potential candidate. There's not one single candidate that everyone can agree on 100%. To disqualify a person forever over one single issue, when he agrees with you on 95% of every other issue, makes you seem stupid. If you don't vote, you're going to guarantee Hillary will be Prez, who you agree with 0% of the time. I'll take the guy I agree with 90% of the time, thank you.
